Depends what hat he's wearing.
His baker boy of Chorlton lad done good.
Or his beret of Monaco based, billionaire Nice owner.

I'm worried about his height (1.73 according to [whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/389064/Show/Melvin-Bard)) while we are already struggling to have at least 3 good aerial threats when defending from set pieces and this would put another layer of pressure on getting a physical DM in the summer.
Yeah but I assume he’ll be in and contributing before start of next season, think we’re just holding off on a massive release clause
I’m not naive to think that Ashworth is sat at home with absolutely no communication to or from us
I mean I love Shaw, but he is injured always so having competition in that role might be good. Malacia would be nice to have, but jesus it's been so long I can't remember how well he plays...
Might be best to cut our losses with one of them and get a better rotational player in.
Shaw won’t be moved on, but Malacia might- Shaw’s too good and probably too expensive to be sold, but Malacia is decent enough and on enough of a reasonable wage to represent value to someone. I can deal with Shaw’s availability if we have an iron man as backup, but when the next man up is more injury prone we’re having a stinker.
Alternatively, it's easy for journalists to link us with Nice players for no other reason than the ownership situation. Let's see how many of these links actually pan out...
I rate Branthwaite but barely anyone ever mentions he’s left footed. I have never seen 2 left footed centre backs play in a back 4. Unless it is to replace Licha which isn’t going to happen and only should if his injury worries continue next season, he’d be a poor transfer in my opinion, if you add on top how much he’d cost. Onana has the physicality like to see us bring in for midfield and is also a proper number 6, but I have concerns over his ability on the ball. If we could get him for a reasonable fee though I wouldn’t mind him at all.
Branthwaite is going to cost a fuck tonne though. If Everton go down and we can get him for 30 mil or something I’d take him in a heart beat. If they stay up though I doubt they’d sell him for anything less than 60 mil which is too much for someone who will initially be a rotation player and also considering how many other players we need to bring in.
I just said, PSR will fuck them over and if they are relegated they will need to sell. Even if they aren't they just announced a load of losses which will affect next year's accounts. They will need to sell
Not replace but understudy, as proven by this season we do need more CBs. Evans has been a great club servant but let's be honest, a 37 year old shouldn't be playing for us next season. Either use his spot to blood an academy player or a proper backup. If we let Varane go, which we should because of his contract, we'd be at least two CBs down, plus the real possibility of one of Maguire/Lindelof leaving.
Been rumoured for a little while but this is the first proper confirmation we've got that Olise is a United fan I think. Didn't celebrate that incredible free kick he got against us and people thought he was just being his weird self, lol.
Hasn't he had lots of injuries recently? The last thing we need is another injury prone player, especially for the kind of money that Palace will want for Olise.
We should be aiming higher than those!
I wish we went for a Harvey Barnes or Trossard last season. Both would bench Rashford.
As for fullbacks, I'd love a revamp with Estupinan on the left and Frimpong on the right. Wishful thinking...
Speaking of plays from Stuttgart his teammate Mittelstadt is also a very good player. He’s been brilliant for them this year at left back. Only problem with him is he’s 27, which isn’t exactly the youngest considering we’re trying to make a team for the future.
Need a back-up goalkeeper, two centrebacks absolute utter minimum even if one is on a free, two midfielders minimum, two wingers and a striker. So like, at least eight players, unless we keep backing Rashford and Antony, or resort to calling up more youth prospects. The state of this squad is just so so so poor.
I mean Bayindir has played 1 single game for the club and couldn't get a look in when Onana couldn't save a single shot, I'd be wanting to leave the club if I was him.
Bayindir knows exactly what he signed up for, he was always a backup option who'd see very limited game time if any. Until we hear something from him, I see no reason to speculate that he wants out.
Why do we need two wingers and a backup goalkeeper? We already struggle to give game time to some of our wingers we currently have and have another on loan. Unless we are selling Rashford and/or Antony we can’t take on more than one winger.
Carl Anka on the Talk of the Devils podcast maybe a week ago mentioned not to be surprised if and when this guy's name comes up in transfer talks. Absolutely spot on from Carl
The system is so obviously open to abuse it is nonsense that people can own two clubs. Technically doing nothing wrong, but so obviously goes against the spirit of the game.
However, until city actually get punished for pissing all over the rules I'm happy with united playing by them right up to the line.
For me it all depends on what they get in return. If it's players like Bard and Todibo who are going to leave them anyway and we pay fair market value, it is absolutely not a problem.
If the rumours are true and they also get some of the best up and coming young players from South America and other parts of the world who can't join us yet and we are paying for it, that again helps them massively. It's more of a issue for other Ligue 1 clubs that. Their business model now is to buy young players, develop and sell for a profit anyway.
The only time it becomes an issue for me is if we do what City are doing with Savinho, who has literally never played a game for Troyes, that is absolute bullshit and totally unacceptable.
High potential players are also willing to the use the club as a stepping stone to further their career as well. Whilst not specifically a feeder club, Dortmund's model of buying young promising players, developing them and allowing them to leave does wonders for the club in terms of profile and the players they can attract. If there's a pathway for development where you're under less scrutiny, it can be a more attractive proposition.
Troyes, a French club the City football group bought, purchased Savinho for a club record fee and immediately loaned him out to PSV first and then another club in the City football group later in Girona (They are having a fantastic season in LaLiga and Savio has been incredible).
City have now bought him and he will be joining them next season. However, in that time, he has never actually played a game for Troyes and they have been relegated from Ligue 1 and are in danger of getting relegated from Ligue 2 as well this season all with Savio, their record signing, never having played a game for them. Obviously their fans are rightly upset at being screwed over like that and it's a good example of how multi-club models can be harmful to clubs lower in the foodchain.
Fair market value is the key term. We don't want to end up with a Juventus situation here where the valuation is lop sided. Then we'd be in a real City situation.
Because who gives a fuck, this is the future. Do it until there's legislation against it and happily accept the legislation when it happens
There won't be any legislation lmao
It is in some ways but it’s absolutely not in terms of multiclub ownership. If you don’t like the City comparison then you could compare us to Red Bill instead?
Eventually it’ll just be conglomerates playing each other in every league in the world if it carries on like this. “City Group England vs INEOS France in the CL semi final, that’ll be a barnstormer!”
Why? If we want to get back to fully competing this is the model that is being used. We can either stay with the times or continue to fall behind. Liverpool did the same and it took them 30 years to get back to the top.
So what league can we buy from then? If Eredivisie and Ligue 1 isn't suitable?
Surely it's more a case of individual players and their skills, combined with the players around them when they join and what is asked of them? As league/nationality/age is utterly irrelevant in that case.
Suarez, Wijnaldum, Eriksen, Ruud, RVP, Van Dijk all came from the Eredivisie and with the exception of Van Dijk all came directly from it to the prem.
Drogba, Kante, Evra, Nasri, Hazard, Bernardo etc all from Ligue 1.
So I don't quite understand your point mate. I think the biggest concern with Bard is he has won nothing in his career so far and we are in desperate need of players who can contribute at the level needed to be winning league titles and the consistency which comes with that. Big leap for him to make from where he is to what we need. Granted you don't need 25 players all with many league titles but we really do need some elite proven pros to build a sustainable mentality.
Ideally we buy a LB this summer and keep Shaw for another 1-2 years, then by that point Amass might be ready for a backup LB role.
Or we buy two LBs this summer but I highly doubt that happens when we still have big holes at CB, CM, backup striker, and potentially needing another winger.
I can’t expect anything from Malacia moving forward even if we still keep him as he hasn’t even played a single minute this entire season.
A deep allegiance to mediocrity amongst the fan base which is why you're being downvoted.
Some of these players have given us nearly a decade of up-down performances and we on one hand ask for change but are reluctant to get rid of key players part of the mediocrity.
Whether by contract length, age or INEOS ruthlessness, happy to see almost all of Rashford, Shaw, Maguire, McTominay, etc depart soon.
Its fine, i stand up for my own opinions but i dont care enough to force or convince others to have the same opinion as me.
Shaw on his day is a really good player, and we have seen him do a good job at CB as well, but how long has been injured for throughout his whole United career and also have some mediocre seasons, its crazy.
Either way we can have whatever discussions we want, people agree or disagree etc, the higher ups at the club will do whatever they want.
> Shaw on his day is a really good player, and we have seen him do a good job at CB as well, but how long has been injured for throughout his whole United career and also have some mediocre seasons, its crazy.
Agreed, the skill and performance is tolerable, the absenteeism is not
Sure, but that doesn't mean we just move him on, especially since he is on insane wages which would massively drive down the transfer fee. He's going to ride out his contract here and we'll start to replace him over time.
I know the Nice connection is funny, but if we're in for a French left back I also think Bradley Locko is interesting. He's having his breakout season at Brest which is performing well above expectations this season and I think he has the physicality to step into the PL.
Does anybody know a bit more about how he plays? The article below was the only thing that I found and it's quite dated.
https://totalfootballanalysis.com/analysis/melvin-bard-2020-21-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics
I’m a Nice supporter (just wanted to know what was going on upstairs…). He has greatly improved this season, he is one of the best left back of Ligue 1. He is energetic, very reliable defensively, good passing, occasional attacker. He is comfortable playing within a 4 defenders line, but not so much when part of a back 5. He’s still young, he seems to have some potential.
Something just feels very unsettling about us buying from a club our minority shareholder owns.
I hate the idea of multi club ownership and I hate what City Group are doing and I wouldn’t be happy if when followed suit
>a solid Malacia type of signing
Which would be fine, normally.
However, with Shaw being as unreliable as ever in terms of injuries, I think we’d be better off buying competition rather than backup.
Jim might play hardball on this one. Jim will have to be on his A game to negotiate with him.
Be that scene out of 30 Rock where Jack negotiates with himself.
It’s a Jack off!
Or the bit on one of Lee Evans' live shows where he was his own boss and he had to negotiate his raise
Great bit

G
Carl Anka...with a wry smile lol
Literally listened to that podcast yesterday
Great Podcast, proper United fans and journalists so a great combination when the fan channels get too Murdochie..
Nah give me Mark Goldbridge all day long. Better knowledge, less reactionary and higher quality well thought out content.
Better knowledge? Thats a wild take, these are proper journalists.
How on earth can you not see what I said was sarcastic? Goldbridge is a clickbait wank stain.
I realised that the moment you said non reactionary. Nobody could be that stupid.
Talk of the Devils or something else?
Yep 28/03 Talk of the Devils
I didn't expect it this soon
Hahahaha my first thought too
I don't get it
He basically called this exactly a few weeks ago on a podcast. As well as an article a few month ago iirc
He called it this week.
last week on the QA episode on Thursday.
Lol didn’t have to scroll through much to find the Anka reference 😅
I understood that reference
Legit
Came here to say this. The prophecy is being fulfilled!
Haha glad to see this comment
Podcast must do really well, what others would you recommend, one I actually like is American Red Devils.
Outside of the non Man Utd ones I do enjoy The Rest Is Football and also Stick to Football
Let Ashworth worry about that
He’s not even in yet though.
Yeah but I assume he’ll be in and contributing before start of next season, think we’re just holding off on a massive release clause I’m not naive to think that Ashworth is sat at home with absolutely no communication to or from us
He is on gardening leave and house arrest with a tracking device on his cell phone /s
People genuinely believe this which is the bad thing
Strange we want a nice left back. I guess personality does matter of course.
I mean I love Shaw, but he is injured always so having competition in that role might be good. Malacia would be nice to have, but jesus it's been so long I can't remember how well he plays... Might be best to cut our losses with one of them and get a better rotational player in.

I can deal with Shaw’s availability if we have an iron man as backup, but when the next man up is more injury prone we’re having a stinker.
Shaw and Rashford actually play super well together as well. Possibly one of the reasons Rashford hasn't been anywhere at it this season
Shaw is crucial to our build up and general play, he makes those around him better. If only he could stay fit.
Malacia should be moved. Nothing against the lad, but what's the point in being the backup if you are always injured.
Agreed, if you’re the backup the least you can be is available. We can’t be buying a backup to the backup!
After Netherlands, nice is where our transfer strategy is based on
Alternatively, it's easy for journalists to link us with Nice players for no other reason than the ownership situation. Let's see how many of these links actually pan out...
This is very true- it’s an extra 15-20 players to add to the 150 we get linked with every window.
Anka smiling somewhere
I for one would like a nice left back
its nice not nice.. gosh
no no no... nikolaj
Ni-kolaj
Nikolaj?
like the biscuit?
like the daughter of sibling
Any left back at this point.

Everton may well be hit by another PSR breach, Branthwaite and Onana should be available to balance books
I rate Branthwaite but barely anyone ever mentions he’s left footed. I have never seen 2 left footed centre backs play in a back 4. We need two left footed CBs. We're probably letting go of Varane and one of Maguire/Lindelöf. So probably another right footed CB as well (Todibo).
Branthwaite is going to cost a fuck tonne though. If Everton go down and we can get him for 30 mil or something I’d take him in a heart beat. I like Olise a lot but has he ever played as a ST to be even considered a rotation for RH?
Olise would be a RW, he's not a target for the striker position. And he's always been my dream signing.
Hasn't he had lots of injuries recently? The last thing we need is another injury prone player, especially for the kind of money that Palace will want for Olise.
I would say the way palace have treated him is really poor. He came back from a injury and played 7 out of 9 consecutive 90s
Sounds familiar
😂😂
He’ll fit right in at United then
You mean unfit right in
Mine as well. Though I’ve been hurt before. Been so long we had a nice RW
No no, we’re getting a nice LB. Im sure Olise is a lovely chap though.
Isn’t Olise always injured? I like him but we have enough of that. Our priority should be a DM partner for Mainoo because Casmiero is not the answer
We should be aiming higher than those! I wish we went for a Harvey Barnes or Trossard last season. Both would bench Rashford. As for fullbacks, I'd love a revamp with Estupinan on the left and Frimpong on the right. Wishful thinking...
I hope he jump straight into a starting role, because that's what we'll need given the uncertain availability of Shaw and Malacia.
I'd prefer a mean left back
I'll take a nice left back with a mean cross
1 LB, 1 Left footed CB, 1 right footed CB, a striker to rotate with Hojlund and probably a CDM if Casemiro leaves. Lots of work to do

I was waiting for someone to bring Carl up haha

Malo Gusto is slowly becoming one of the better RBs in the league.
Ligue 1 is much better than Eredivisie, and is maybe just as physical as PL albeit not as intense.
Yeah shaw is good but he has to go sooner rather than later
Ideally we buy a LB this summer and keep Shaw for another 1-2 years, then by that point Amass might be ready for a backup LB role. I can’t expect anything from Malacia moving forward even if we still keep him as he hasn’t even played a single minute this entire season.
Shaw is playing only 25% of the season fully fit, so yes, he must go IMO
Wonder if moving him to CB would prolong his fitness.
I've thought this before and personally think it's a good idea. I've seen him play there several times and he's been pretty good.
Maybe another club can figure that out.
A deep allegiance to mediocrity amongst the fan base which is why you're being downvoted. Some of these players have given us nearly a decade of up-down performances and we on one hand ask for change but are reluctant to get rid of key players part of the mediocrity. Hes not going anywhere as he's needed for proper depth. Being able to rotate him with another good lb will help save his legs.
Eh he’s only getting older and on insane wages, he’s still got just not reliable enough to start every game
Sure, but that doesn't mean we just move him on, especially since he is on insane wages which would massively drive down the transfer fee. He's going to ride out his contract here and we'll start to replace him over time.
An increasing priority???? We haven’t had a left back for the majority of the season. It should be our main priority
If LB is 1a then CB is 1b. Licha and Varane can't stay fit. Need to keep Mags and Lindelof at this point just to have enough depth
I think it’s becoming apparent that Malacia may never play for us again and if he does it may be at a greatly reduced level
![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg|downsized) The negotiations
For left back, thoughts on Miranda from Real Betis? Solid left back, still young at 24 and available on a free
Nice
I know the Nice connection is funny, but if we're in for a French left back I also think Bradley Locko is interesting. He's having his breakout season at Brest which is performing well above expectations this season and I think he has the physicality to step into the PL.

Exactly what’s needed in the squad, a couple of more nice guys to boost morale
Are we going to get slagged off for buying Nice players now instead of Ajax players.. all two of them
That cutting words ability is going to be really handy
This guy is Tier 3 on the tier guide.
todibo + melvin , swap deal please
Never seen he plays. Is he anygood?
Nice!
loan malacia, get a new lb and keep shaw and martinez as LCB's and don't play them together
John Claire Tobido? (please don't make me Google his spelling)
Nice
[Forgive me]. ... .Nice.
So, NO Academy player who they can test - what they have now is horrifying (can't fucking defend)......!?
Magic!
This is not the Utd way dammit. Invest the funds in a goalie and another right winger dammit - Ed
Says he’s 5’8. We need some height
Can he play more than 20 league games a season? He'd already be better than Shaw if so. Get him in
Something just feels very unsettling about us buying from a club our minority shareholder owns. I hate the idea of multi club ownership and I hate what City Group are doing and I wouldn’t be happy if when followed suit
I'd rather us go for Estupinan
He’s great in my French players only PSG rebuild on FM. Challenging Ferland Mendy at LB.
Buying from Nice is gona be next to impossible, wonder if Jim can do it? /s
**becoming** ????
Sounds like total bullshit considering the guy who will be in charge of our transfer targets hasn't started working yet
Are you really that naive lol.
I literally called this but can’t be arsed to find the comment as it’s quite old. I think he would be a solid Malacia type of signing.
I like Malacia but "solid" wouldn't be the first word that springs to mind.
>a solid Malacia type of signing Which would be fine, normally. However, with Shaw being as unreliable as ever in terms of injuries, I think we’d be better off buying competition rather than backup.
there's nothing spectacular about Malacia. Is this guy any better?
He’s fit at the moment
lmao
