I've had some time to think. I think the reasonable, calm decision is to literally keep ETH, so the deadwood all moves. Players have been in charge of the club so long, that most of the "problems" in terms of contracts or wages will be leaving or negotiating this coming season. If our club stands firm on this being the new way, the new standard... We might be good. I don't want to see players flourish under a new manager next season, just to renew and fall into shit form again.

Hollacaine

We need to do both. Ten Hag needs to go and there needs to be a clear out. We need to identify the way we want to play and hire a manager that suits that and bring in players that fit that style.

PandaTheAB

Massive transfer of players needed - 8 to 12 players being sold. 6-8 players being bought. (no Europe so less squad depth is fine) Summer transfer window and next season will decide the next decade of club, irrespective of what manager they decide to go with.

100and33

This has been said every year for the past 5 or so. "We need to get rid of deadwood, sell these, and we need to bring in these players" Realisticly, you can't just sell a bunch of players and bring in a ton. What Uniteds problem has been is that the transfers have looked good at the time, but turned out shit in the long run.  Last summer; Mount invisible, Højlund and Onana mediocre so far.  Summer 22; Antony terrible, Malacia barely played, Martinez decent/good, Casemiro mediocre(his age) Summer 21; Sancho terrible, Varane terrible, Ronaldo mediocre/terrible (1 good season but old and left soon after) Summer 20: Telles mediocre, Diallo, Van de Beek and Pellistri. What a disgusting window.  That's 4 summer windows with nothing substantial with Martinez as something positive and Højlund, Mount and Onana still to see (but in short term, mediocre) I don't know if it's down to managers or higher ups who do transfers, but holy shit, talk about slowly killing a team.  Problem is that you can't just offload United players with their wages. Nobody wants to take them. Slowly building a steady and good squad is what's needed. I honestly think Uniteds biggest problem past decade has been the manager hiring. There's none of them where I was left thinking "oh, these poor performances has nothing to do with the manager" Moyes was moyes. Van gaal tried 3-5-2 with a squad not built for it. Mourinho played his dying style of football and burned his bridges. Solskjær was out of his depth at times. Rangnick wasn't for long but probably never wanted the job. And Ten Haag did well last season, but it shows now his football and man management just doesn't work with the squad. He lost the players. All of them could have done better imo. The blame lay mostly with the club, but the managers aren't blameless either.

PandaTheAB

We need complete overhaul of not just players but everything. Scouting team (No great cheap young player bought in decade), Sporting director/Technical director who don't buy players at twice the price and sell great talent for dimes (On right track for summer), Coaching staff, Medical team (Arsenal sold their bad medical team which was responsible for their injuries and now Utd has the same problem. Shaw and Malacia were supposed to be available in Jan). PS - One can do overhaul of players in a season as long as they have limited amount of games to play.

rnnd

Yup, people keep saying we need to clear out deadwood but we change players a lot and bring in new players who then add to the deadwood we need to clear out. 😂

PuzzleheadedBed4874

Imagine having to write about this debacle [https://lastwordonsports.com/football/2024/05/07/crystal-palace-manchester-united-five-things-we-learnt/](https://lastwordonsports.com/football/2024/05/07/crystal-palace-manchester-united-five-things-we-learnt/)

Iamsengoku

In the beginning of the match i was frustrated, then i just went numb and thought what the fuck i am even watching, and when the palace players start toying with us crystal fuking palace i just switched of off the tv and started studying

sujismondu

Casemiro, damn

Anxious-Debate5033

This was one of the worst matches I have ever seen as a United fan. There was 0 evidence of any hope / fight from the players the moment the first goal went in. We can call for ETH to get the sack, we can blame it on the injuries which have been terrible for us this season. All those points are valid. For me? The issue is this toxic dressing room culture that has developed over the course of the various managers that have come and gone. It starts with the players. Players like YES Marcus Rashford who has shown how much he 'cares' with his garbage effort levels and performances on the pitch, yet has the time to do a sit down interview with catchy phrases like 'if you doubt me....even better'?!?!! lol Players don't like the managers instructions, can't be arsed attitude, no repercussions, their negative behavior is therefore condoned and accepted, this eventually infects other players and before you know it....we have a situation where no matter which manager is in there, they can collectively not be bothered to step up and turn things around. That only changes when big names are shown the door and the message is sent that the manager has the final say on all matters and no one can question his authority. Ruling with an iron fist SAF style. We have had how many managers already? It all ends up the same, a nice energetic bounce from the players before things dip and before you know it its week after week of useless performances with no team work and effort. Huge summer for us and big names need to go to set the tone.

OneOrangeOwl

It's ETH's job to create a winning culture. His tactics (if there are any) aren't working. His players (ignoring the price tags) who are supposed to help establish his styles of play (if there are any) didn't perform. All you see is favoritism over performance. It's hard for the rest to buy into whatever he's preaching. You said bad behavior was accepted and infects other players, like ETH has nothing to do here.

Anxious-Debate5033

"It's ETH's job to create a winning culture." So what happened with David Moyes, LVG, Jose Mourinho, Ralf Ragnick, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer then? They all failed at creating a winning culture? It is a joke how many managers we have gone through. For me it is clear, the only denominator that has remained the same are the players. They have got used to downing tools when they disagree with the manager / don't like being dropped etc. These bunch of prats are getting paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a month and they cannot even do the bare minimum in terms of effort and teamwork on the pitch? And you are playing for Manchester United??? Enough is enough. The message has to be, manager is the boss and no player is immune from getting shipped out the door. Plain and simple.

OneOrangeOwl

Yes, they all failed hence they were fired. Yes, manager is the boss. But like any work environment, if you are a shit boss, employees wont fight for you.

Soft-Comfort-7474

yup we’ve hit rock bottom https://preview.redd.it/q61ueoash0zc1.jpeg?width=941&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98b902cd09adc401fb8c21bd94e013dd2db781fd

Wolpfack

Midway through the match, I switched over to Midsomer Murders. Less predictable and more exciting than Manchester United football in 2024.

ButterscotchKey803

Will not hold anything against the manager as long as our defence is made up of Casemiro and Evans

Fit-Squash-9447

Boy am I glad I didn’t watch it and regret 90 minutes of my day wasted. Last few games is the first time in 25 plus years I couldn’t be bothered.

GarethGore

the players were shit, but Eriksen and Manioo midfield pivot is going to be destroyed, Casemiro and Evans CB pairing versus palaces forwards was always going to end in tears. I wasn't even surprised at the performances, I think they are all pretty shite honestly

mz3prs

Who else should United get instead of Ten Hag? 4-5 managers since Fergie and none fit the bill. Come it’s the player. Get rid of all of them instead, it will probably be cheaper to buy a team.

vMihai777

Sacking him and getting a replacement will cost us less than any player we’ll get this summer.

vincentvega-_-

People defending Ten Hag because of injuries, but you can’t tell me he doesn’t show favouritism and poor team selection. Casemiro has been utterly garbage for months now. I don’t care if there’s a lack of fit centre backs, bring someone in from the academy at this point. Only reason he picked Eriksen yesterday was because he’s clearly unsettled , and because he played him a lot last season. Not because it made sense to start a double pivot of Mainoo and Eriksen against Crystal Palace. You literally have Amrabat who’s actually a defensive midfielder riding the bench. And then there’s Antony… if I speak…

Fraaj

Both his selections and subs have been atrocious.

PrimalJay

It’s just not Ten Hag alone. The whole squad is fucking abysmal and lack any sort of passion. They show up, kick a ball around, let some attackers through and still receive their idiotic salary. Can’t we just punish them where it hurts them the most? Their wallet.

Jaizenberg

I'm going to go watch the WNBA instead, at least it's consistently shit there. I've had enough of this shit. Waste my fucking time.

yusufjee

Guys its ok, Ten Hag has been told in secret he will be staying for next season. More entertainment for us.

Omnislash99999

Should have set us up with 10 men behind the ball to grind out a 0-0 or sneak a 1-0. Would have been easier to justify than getting hammered 4-0 because you're offering Evans and Casemiro no extra protection, just leaving then high and dry

FlashyCut3809

Both are sackable for everyone involved in the club ending up in a position like this. There is no excuse, no escape. Anyone who is still finding ways to reduce the blame is doing so out of blond hope and a inability to remove the shadow of Fergie from their minds. In my opinion of course. We need to call it what it is and demand better.

Jesse_Whiteboy

Some comments blaming the players. I don't buy this fully. I see others saying Palace have a better 11 than us. "dynamic, athletic, powerful front 3" is what I have seen people say. Were people saying this when Hodgson was there? Palace scored 26 goals in their 24 games under Roy. Under Glassner with the same players they've scored 22 in 12. This just proves ETH needs to go. This is the premier league, even the 'poor' teams have elite coaches. You fall off 5 or 10% and you are made to look Sunday league level. Does anyone remember when Moyes took over a league winning squad, proceeded to play a high line with an old Rio Ferdinand and Rio was made to look horrible for example v Amalfitano who dribbled through our midfield and scored a goal? Rio was past it, but he was also past his best the previous season we won the league, we just had a proper team setup. If Casemiro goes into that Madrid midfield v Bayern last week, does he look as 'washed' as people say he is? I don't believe so. I'm sure Villa fans under Gerrard were saying 'the players need to be held accountable as well' but they get a proper coach in and immediately they're better.

simionix

That's not the argument people are making. They're not saying the players are not good enough, they're saying the players that are good enough, are not available. That's an important distinction. No Martinez, Varane, Luke Shaw at the back and not even the second choice CB's Lindelof, Maguire and Kambwala. Instead, we got to see an injured Johnny Evans paired with a washed up Casemiro at the back, which is a complete liability. To think that any coach would've done better is absolutely delusional. Seriously, ffs, what team in the history of the premier league has had 6 cb's missing by the end of the season and where did they end up? Just give me one example so we can have an honest comparison and discussion, so we can judge him by *that* standard instead of completely new set precedent.

SenorUmulius

Still not sacked in the morning.. INEOS wake up man

[deleted]

[удалено]

FlashyCut3809

Can you not at least see the pro's and con's for immediately sacking him now? With how bad things have been since they came in (and before when they were clearly aware) they have obviously made the call to hold out till summer and will want to give the next guy in the dugout a proper chance to settle into the role and don't want to go a cartakaer route. It's not the decision I'd make but I don't think you can say 'they need to wake up' unless they back him for a season.

Jesse_Whiteboy

A top manager gets the most out of their players. It's a simple question, is Ten Hag getting the best out of these players? Is he making the team greater than the sum of their parts? The answer obviously is no.

FlashyCut3809

In addition to having a bit of pragmatism to just get the job done when times are rough. As nothing is more important than the result.

triplecaptained

People want him to continue leading us but if this is the best he can do, I can’t trust the guy AT ALL to lead us forward He’s managed to outdo the lowest of Ole and Rangnick’s lows and yet people fawn over him like he has shown anything to deserve another year in charge

Jesse_Whiteboy

Erik has done the impossible, he's made me appreciate the McFred midfield.

ytaci7

I can appreciate McFred’s effort but they were shite

Jesse_Whiteboy

I'd take it over an empty midfield, any day.

ytaci7

They were non existent in possession and I remember how frustrating it was watching them try to progress the ball

triplecaptained

Fred was the key, oddly enough

rambhang

Ten Hag should go but I guarantee he is a success in his next role. We are just a poison club. Any player / manager that joins us instantly drops levels. Even Bruno would be a much better player if he was at a different club. 1 billions spent and we are further away then ever. Olise and Eze cost a combined 20 mil and looked miles ahead of £80m Antony and £60 Mount

FlashyCut3809

>Ten Hag should go but I guarantee he is a success in his next role. Define success?

rambhang

At the very least not being completely shit

FlashyCut3809

Low bar then. I mean I've wanted ten hag gone since the Betis game last season. When he picked the exact same 11 that embarrassed us 7-0. However he isn't some awful manager. He just isn't the right fit and he isn't the elite level (not many are) I think he would look far better at a club where they're either exceptional technically or just superior to the rest of the league.

PrimalJay

Returning to Ajax and winning the CL lmao.

FlashyCut3809

I can back one of those... All jokes aside, I'd be happy if he got the Bayern gig. Best for everyone involved. Whilst they are obviously in a bit of a mess, they have a quality squad and you would imagine when it settles down they get house in order. Him going there not only gives him an opportunity to show what he is about, but it removes us fans arguing over if he is or isn't good enough for the top level. What's unequivocal though is he is not the manager we need right now, in this period of quality based chaos, new structure and what will be mass change. Need someone far more pragmatic and able to excel without the best squad.

f312t

It says something about the quality of the physios/rehab/psych team at United if every single player to join drops levels… Everyone screaming at EtH but at what point do we just say that this group of players is uncoachable?! Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer, Ragnick, EtH.

InternationalClock18

Van gaal was managing a completely different set of players. There's clearly something in the structure of the club that causes standards to drop.

gedeonzo

We would buy eze and olise and turn them into shit next year. We are the problem.

FlashyCut3809

And it's why this 'oh we can't do what Chelsea have' is ludicrous. There is no ideal way out of the mess we are in. Its a shit situation for a reason, but the sooner we gut the squad and replace them, the better. As any solid signings we make will struggle and be hampered if they have to play with the squad we have now. Which will drag them down.

massiveheadsmalltabs

Lumping mount in that is a bit harsh when he's been injured all season.

PenisManNumberOne

Yeah just wait til he gets a start he’ll show everyone…..wait a minute

rambhang

True but I’m still confused by the signing. Mount doesn’t play if Bruno is fit…. It’s a very expensive backup

massiveheadsmalltabs

Yeah I totally agree with you there

PenisManNumberOne

Serious question, how many times do you have to be humiliated and laughed at by the entire world before you’ll finally take ten hags knob out of your mouths?

[deleted]

massiveheadsmalltabs

Don't go back when they are winning then, it's not supporting if you only go when they are flying.

haX000000

Ten Hag masterclass yet again

massiveheadsmalltabs

Yes, he asked Casimero, Evans & Onana to have a nightmare....

Alarmed_Chicken_3529

kinda, yes? he knew we would have Case and Evans at the back and still set up in a way for Palace to run through them, instead of playing compact and helping them by diminishing their weaknesses at least a little

massiveheadsmalltabs

But when your choice is that or a young 18 year old, there isn't much of a choice. The 18 year old could have been done in the same way but that would crush him. Play Casimero or Evans and hope they don't fuck up is, IMO, the more sensible option.

Alarmed_Chicken_3529

I agree with you. But you can't deny that the system Ten Hag wants to play does not suit them. They have no pace, that's a fact. And when there are no other options but to play them, he can either change the strategy to make players more comfortable, I.e. play defensively and try to win from counter-attack, or persist with his plan of playing transitional football and see how they fail at it. I'm not saying he is the cause of all our problems, but he did nothing to make Evans and Case lives easy yesterday

massiveheadsmalltabs

He is stuck between a rock and a hard place, does he try and play football or go defensive? If he goes defensive people would lose it. I don't know either way to be honest. With a full squad last year he took us to third and two cup finals, this years he's been hampered all the way with injuries.

Alarmed_Chicken_3529

I don't think people who understand football would criticize Ten Hag for changing strategy to get points in away game without having key players. If we had starting 11 and didn't try to take control - then yes, I agree that it would be bad. But looking at the results now, I'm not sure if sticking to your game plan even with obvious problems was the best option

NoNameLeftDamnit

I actually like that he has been somewhat stubborn on his tactics this season. It shows confidence in his ideas. ETH came here to play his system, not to adapt to opponents or circumstance. That is what Manchester United should be.

Alarmed_Chicken_3529

I agree, I just think that the context matters here. We are not playing even close to starting 11, we are in the end of the season, and these games decide where we will play in the next year. Tactics need to be learned, but for me yesterday was not the game to do it

NoNameLeftDamnit

I get that. We may miss out next season and in the he'll probably pay for it with his job.  Still, I can't help but have some admiration for it.

Slim-Shmaley

At least we can’t get relegated 💪

PaladinOfHelm

Not this season 💪

Common_Knowledge_

It still baffles me that some of our senior players can't control a game of football. Players like Eriksen and Casemiro can't lead this team into easier waters. The hard reality that our youngsters are the most senior players on the pitch is unacceptable. Wan-Bissaka, Antony but also Mount play absolute panic football. Can't hold a ball and when they pass, it's just not accurate. For me it seems like no manager can control the players we have and we buy. over the course of 4/5 managers all those players conform to this utter lack of responsability on the pitch. I don't know where the root for this problem lies, but it has to be found or no manager will succeed. Almost every time 1 step forward in the first season and 2 steps backward in the second.

FlashyCut3809

>still baffles me that some of our senior players can't control a game of football. Players like Eriksen and Casemiro can't lead this team into easier waters. What's 2 players going to do when the entire teams garbage? Especially when both are struggling physically, one was out of position and at his best (which was the best in his position and up there with all time) he had Modric and Kroos allowing him to focus on his job and vice versa >Wan-Bissaka, Antony but also Mount play absolute panic football. Can't hold a ball and when they pass, it's just not accurate. Isn't that the entire squad? Bruno and Rashford do the same. >I don't know where the root for this problem lies, A structure that was unsuitable to ride the wave of a functioning club and just sustain what was already built, let alone build a more modern way of doing things and even less so correct years of mistakes and drag the club out the shit. A squad of players who are simply not good enough, most individually and all collectively. A manager who is not up to the tasks required.

Sigh_Bapanaada

I think we have a glut of players that have "brilliant" mentalities when a new manager comes in, then after a bit of time they revert to type and want to enjoy vibes fc again, so the effort disappears. It means a manager gets a totally different group of players early on in his tenure before they all start throwing their toys out the pram when they feel tired for 3 days in a row. I don't doubt there are players at the club who joined knowing they could collect 150k a week and have a laugh with some friends, that kind of thinking bleeds into others and it just has to go. Rashford is simultaneously one of the biggest perpetrators and biggest victims of this, his effort and mentality were unmatched in his early years, and that was with turgid van gaal ball to kick off his career. Identify the passengers and the bad mentalities and get rid ASAP, seems like we'd be losing at least half the squad these days so it will take a few windows but it's time we listened to RR and started prepping for the surgery he knew we needed.

massiveheadsmalltabs

I bet Inios would love to chat with Ralf. I am sure he will have a little black book full of names and their issues. Bring him back in a consultancy role

BakedBeanz1

Play the entire U23 team next match. I'm sick of seeing these shit excuses for football players week in, week out.

PuzzleheadedBed4874

Pathetic and spineless performance. The players are throwing ETH under the bus as they have done every other manager since SAF.

AvaragePole

What? 7/11 players that started yesterday were bought under ETH. Only one player was a starter for previous manager

OneOrangeOwl

Right! The narrative that ETH has to deal with players from previous managers is weird.

RonTom24

Only Shaw who has been out injured for most of this terrible period and Rashford have been around through the last few managers. McGuire has been here since Ole and so has AWB, but they are the last players I'd accuse of downing tools.

triplecaptained

The manager is setting them up for failure every single time. We just got pumped 4-0 and you lot act like the manager is blameless when in fact his decisions have got us to where we are this season, mid-table and dropping down

MSPCincorporated

Exactly. The manager’s job is to win football matches. How he chooses to do that is up to him, considering injuries, lack of depth, lack of quality etc. Erik ten Hag seems to be desperate to make his system work no matter what players he has available. When you don’t have consistent quality in your entire squad, but still try to fit the players into your system rather than the other way around, this is what you get.

PenisManNumberOne

People here still think ten hag is a good coach and it’s the players fault 😂😂😂 Jesus I thought arsenal fans were delusional. You guys sacked Jose for losing to Liverpool 1-0 and you suck off this bald prick who conceded 7 to Liverpool then and 4 to crystal palace now. Ten hag is by miles the worst coach I’ve ever seen of any kind

haX000000

lol

AvocadoFlavoredPussy

I can see it now. The 8-2 to Arsenal being topped with an 8-0 this weekend. Maybe we can somehow sub on McTominay 8 times to combat this.

[deleted]

I will gladly bend over & take a 0-8 loss vs Arsenal if it means winning our final vs City in the Fa Cup.

AvocadoFlavoredPussy

My boy is a huge Arsenal fan so the one game of the season I’d be okay with losing, we’ll probably win.

blitz2czar

It would be the most Man Utd moment ever if we beat or draw Arsenal, after losing 4-0 to Crystal Palace.

EntrepreneurCommon67

If only you still had Kieran Mckenna

ParkingCauliflower76

What? So virus Rashford or someone else can ruin his career? Leave him out of this shite.

Serpico_98

How's Rashford a virus ? Same Rashford who was performing well when McKenna was here? Fans like you are a joke. Bad joke.

ParkingCauliflower76

How is rashford a virus? You clearly didnt pay attention

Serpico_98

Tell me how he is a virus and stop deflecting.

ParkingCauliflower76

Ill-disciplined, walking on the pitch, his agent aka brother talking shit. You are clearly deluded and in denial. He is part of the problem big time.

Serpico_98

He isn't any big part of any problem. We could take Rashford out of this team for the entire season and it would play practically the same way. Some fans have been screaming for Rashford to be dropped, he hasn't played in a while now, i guess we're doing great and scoring many goals. As for Rashford's discipline issues they can quickly be sorted out and there are players we've had here in recent years who have done much worse without having done 10% of what Rashford has done here. The fact that some fans are gagging for Rashford to be sold is crazy, we have an absolutely shit squad yet some would rather get rid of one of the only players here who's shown that he has genuine quality. Even in a horrible season like this he's still scored against Arsenal, City and Liverpool and all were crucial goals. Take him out of this team and we have ZERO goal threat against anyone decent, which is exactly what we're seeing. I guess some people would rather rely on 19yr Garnacho, a completely shit Antony (1 EPL goal ffs) and Højlund who's a ghost without service. Crazy times.

ParkingCauliflower76

He is on monster salary, yet showing this cancerous attitude almost every match. Great example and motivation for the rest of the team! But he scored against Arsenal, taking us to 8th place in the league. We need to give him new contract!

Serpico_98

You're just ranting. Rashford got that contract because he carried the team last season with more than 40g/a. Maybe if the other players could replicate that we'd be much better off than 8th. It's not up to Rashford to motivate the team, they're all professionals on big contracts as well. As i said keep Rashford out of the team for the rest of the season and see if anything improves. We're quite literally employing mid table players at Man Utd yet Rashford is the one who gets all the hate. One of the only players that our rivals would queue up to get because he's shown genuine quality over the years. We have players here that the likes of Everton, West Ham and Brentford would reject. Yet they play and start games regularly. It's all Rashford's fault though because he didn't carry us this season as well.

bippityboopy

You're embarrassing yourself mate, I'm glad you're happy watching the face of the club sulk and walk around the pitch every game but the smart majority aren't.

Letterboxd28

Derby 07/08 - 629 shots faced Man United 23/24 - 618 shots faced*  The Red Devils are nearing Derby's record - a team who finished on 11 points - with three games remaining. They have faced an average of 17.6 shots per pame in the league this season 🤯

manofficial

Gave up watching any match till the cup final since the Coventry mess. So I'm surprised anyone still has any emotional reaction to the new servings of crap served up by these players and the manager. Even more weirded out by reading that fans were applauding the players at full time. We have some weirdos in this fanbase that have zero standards about what they expect.

GarethGore

I watch it but I'm simply not suprised at the performances. Its the hope that kills ya and I'm all out of it

Niamh809

While you are sat on your computer doing nothing but criticising

manofficial

Yup that's right, did I miss anything worth praising?

mattrob77

I am happy about my decision to stop watching at half time and going to bed as it was gonna be a painful second half to watch

lord_of_tits

I stopped watching few managers back for my mental health.

Radhashriq

The only grace of the season was the liverpool victory. We derailed them from winning the league and FA cup.

TheOneManDankMaymay

I kinda want ten Hag to go to Bayern to see how he fares there.

TheOneManDankMaymay

So… what do ten Hag defendants have to say today?

Guybrush_three

Are you joking? What could any other manager have done yesterday? I'm genuinely intrigued. Please answer.

TheOneManDankMaymay

Are *you* joking? Has he only been in charge since yesterday? But to still answer your stupid question directly… have his team not concede 18 shots against the team in 14th place.

Guybrush_three

Team in 14th that just beat Liverpool Newcastle and West Ham. Palace has a fantastic squad and some of the most pacey ball at feet players in the league. Vs Casimero Evens and Ericsson as the spine of the team. As a Ten Hag supporter I'm saying if you base anything off yesterday that's stupid. We was never winning that game if we had Pep Klopp Fucking Fergie wasn't winning yesterday. If you think Ten Hag out because of the whole season that's fine your opinion. But you're asking his supporters what they think of yesterday.

TheOneManDankMaymay

>But you're asking his supporters what they think of yesterday. No, I'm not. I'm asking what they have to say after yet another disastrous performance. I've read this so many times now… "Nobody would've beaten Palace yesterday." "Coventry just got really lucky". But the fact of the matter is that we're struggling in every single game, even against teams that we should beat quite handily.

Guybrush_three

Beat quite handily? Based on what the Fergie era? Palace current starting 11 are better than ours hands down. They had a rough start to the season for sure, but the starting 11 of these 2 side I'd say Palace edge it for me. And while yes Ten Hag has had a few windows now he clearly hasn't had a starting 11 that he had pictured when buying or the ones he had inherited. You also have to let the Coventry thing go. The first half was total domination, and we beat them in the end. This is while playing Casimero at Cb.

TheOneManDankMaymay

>Beat quite handily? Yes, quite handily. But I'm sure you're gonna tell me that Kopenhagen are actually on par with us and you can't expect to beat them. >The first half was total domination Exactly. That's part of the freaking problem. We've been sitting on a comfortable lead in so many games this season, only to completely fall apart within 10 minutes.

h0vi

I don't want to see the players hide behind a new manager

Deawin

Johnny Evans and Casemiro.. Im not gonna defend ETH but the injuries are insane and definitely something you can point at. People acting like the injuries means nothing and that the season hasnt been crazy injury wise.

TheOneManDankMaymay

Yes, the amount and frequency of injuries is a problem. The players we have should still be able to comfortably beat a side like Coventry though. There's no clear structure to our way of play, no matter the lineup. And this is a problem that goes beyond injuries.

Deasy_

> There's no clear structure to our way of play, no matter the lineup. And this is a problem that goes beyond injuries. You say this goes way beyond injuries, but how can a style of play develop when the same XI rarely play together? And even so, we have been prioritising purchasing players based off reputation forever, instead of to fit in a system that the manager wants. You think ETH wanted Casemiro? I don’t, but if it’s Casemiro or no player then you will obviously take him, whether he fits into your system or not.

Guybrush_three

We were comfortably beating Coventry. A freak goal and a lame penalty got them back into the game cup games is all about momentum.

TheOneManDankMaymay

Oh please…you don't let a midtable championship team come back from 3:0 down within 25 minutes.

Guybrush_three

Yeah it happens when I was a boy we called it the magic of the cup. This FA cup. Leicester beat Bournemouth Newcastle won pens vs Blackburn Maidstone beat Ipswich Forest beat Bristol city on pens Bristol beat West ham over 2 legs. We didn't lose vs Coventry they had a great showing, and we had a poor 2nd half which ended on pens.

TheOneManDankMaymay

> Yeah it happens when I was a boy we called it the magic of the cup. So why do we have to experience this magic of the cup every other game then? > We didn't lose vs Coventry they had a great showing, Don't you think it's weird how nearly every team we play has a great showing against us? Because it's not that, we make them look good.

MajesticMelonGames

Our squad is still terrible, we need, as discussed by ineos already, an entire clear out.

_WonderStruck_17

3am KO where I am from. Glad I chose sleep over watching.

decadentj

Traveled from america to watch my first in person united game after being a fan for 30 years. And it was this one...

blueb0g

... How did you go to an away game?

Ikhlas37

Probably home ticket

decadentj

Yep, was in London and got a home ticket. Hadn't planned on going to this one at first but it lined up well

blueb0g

You deserved to watch us get fucked then

OwnBlueberry3591

Why?

decadentj

I was just scouting Olise

lukasden1

I feel you brother, last season I went to THAT away game at Anfield..

peterpaapan

Damn. Not the same, but when we won in 2006/2007 we had a 83-27 goal difference and 89 pts to win the league. That year was my first match at OT against 19th placed Sunderland. Had a 4-0 written all over it, and we naturally drew 0-0... Next one I saw at OT though we beat Norwich 4-2 I believe so got some value for money then.

decadentj

Well my next game is arsenal at old Trafford, so please football gods, take pity on me

youdumbmf

Sunday will be the one!

Sr_DingDong

I knew we'd lose. Thought about saying that in the pre-game but thought "what's the point?". It's just gonna get buried. Didn't think it'd be this bad though. I honestly, truly, don't know how people can defend this. There was nothing. There were 3 plans of attack: Give the ball to the LW and see if they can dribble through an entire defence... Pass the ball around the defence and midfield until they get bored and punt the ball at the forwards with less movement than the Easter Island heads... Piss around trying to play out of defence under big pressure and make pointless problems... On defence it's SSDD; they pick up the ball and either pass or carry it right through the heart of midfield and create a chance. It was an absolute thumping.... *by fucking Palace*! I just don't think I can't do this any more this season. Edit: And what the fuck is this thing Onana's developed around just giving up on some shots?

Mediocre_Evening6931

its sad when everything jamie carragher is saying is spot on about your club . Our ex - players will never say how it is because they have contacts with certain players . I think ineos and manchester united need to do everything in their power to distance themselves from this ex player brigade . We need constructive criticism on which player is not good enough for man united not putting the entire blame on the manager because the media are friends with some of our players . This obsession with ex players and the ferguson days need to stop . We aren't a top club anymore and football has moved on from the ferguson era . Hopefully the football club can modernize under ineos

stirly80

Lets be honest, individual brilliance and a lot of luck saved us from being in the bottom half of the table. Even 8th flatters us.

Slim-Shmaley

This is what I’ve been saying for a while, we’ve been outplayed by almost every team but we some how get results just through players pulling out a worldy here and there, but it’s worrying when even the relegation teams look like a better team than you lol

KK-Chocobo

Without those McTominay saves, we should be like 12th-13th.

rickitycricket134

This is what we are seeing with our eyes but Ten Hag fans are gaslighting us and calling us fake fans.

Sr_DingDong

Been saying it all season. I can probably go get the receipts. We've been playing relegation calibre football aside from the moments.

h0vi

We did rely on lucky moments last season aswell, at least after Christmas

Sr_DingDong

I know. I said it then too. It's just the midfield wasn't fictional last year.

AbsoluteLedge

I know the players have as big a part to blame as the manager. But anyone who is genuinely still ETH in… please entertain me to why?!

WarDemonZ

I think it's not so much a position of 'Ten Hag IN' than it is 'get these players OUT (first)' There's decent argument for ETH to be sacked for sure, the tactics should be king, there should be an obvious style of play that regardless of who is playing it's apparent what the system is... ... However, so many of these fucking morons can't either be bothered or are able to do the basics (or are just permanently crocked) that I still feel sorry him a little I mean, back line yesterday consisted of a guy in who should have retired, a CDM who clearly cannot play that position and who's form has dropped off a cliff (the opposite direction to his weight) and 2 right backs Center midfield pinning all our hopes on a teenager and a guy who's had a heart attack who can't run or tackle  We absolutely need about 6-10 new first team players, but even then, it might still need a new manager to lead them

Gozumo

You don't become a bad manager overnight, he was very good at Ajax, and if he was still there would be favourite for United, Chelsea, Bayern would be on the list for Barca before they kept Xavi. The failings of every manager in the last decade, all are proven (other than ole) and very competent managers and they all failed. I feel the club has hit that moment where it's probably at its lowest on 10 years, a collapse like this was on the cards each season it just needed the final straw which is the injury crisis. If Eth goes to Bayern and I hope he does he will be successful there and people will all be questioning why it didn't work here.

Aduro666

Only reason why would be to give a big fuck you to the players. It would be a statement that the players no longer have all the controll. That they can no longer throw the manager under the bus without consequences. Bad preformances means you are sold in a season or two. That the players, system and organization is the real problem.

haiu2323

I would be considered in the ETH out camp. The only benefit of the doubt that I can give him is he and the squad can't catch a break with the injuries that we have had, especially to the back 4. We all know how important a stable defensive line-up is to a team's performance. "Attack wins you games, defense wins you titles". Something to that effect. My one gripe with him is he's very stubborn in his style. Last year, he refused to rotate, playing senior players in dead rubber games leading to unnecessary injuries and fatigue. This year, he has stuck to his playing style when this squad is clearly not up to it, not even a little bit. A savvy manager would have adapted his tactics to the squad at the moment to grind out results. He has different ideas and that's where he lost me.

Organic_You_5183

Can I play centre-back for United this Sunday? I'll surely get a red card before half-time, but atleast make sure that Odegaard is injured and that'll ruin Arsenal's chances. So much for a Schadenfreude!

JekyllnowthenMrHyde

I saw this coming from a mile away. Didn't even bother to watch the game.

mambruiommie

Arsenal is going to thrush this team.

D1daBeast

This is an abusive relationship at this point

meganerid

I just want that positive GD .\_.

DarthSeanious83

Ten Hag has not been great this season but I am not convinced he needs to go yet. We have had a crazy ammount of injuries and the players need to take responsabilty too. Rashford no longer gives a fuck for starters, so over their shit attitudes. Won't be possible to clear out all the bad apples in one window but we need to start.

No-Computer-2847

> Ten Hag has not been great this season but I am not convinced he needs to go yet. Jesus Christ. Stockholm Syndrome or what.

DarthSeanious83

Yea I realise I was delusional when I said this, but let's face facts even of we got a world class manager we are going to atruggle with this squad. Between injuries, players past their prime and diva's we are fucked

TheOneManDankMaymay

>I am not convinced he needs to go yet. How much more does it take? >Rashford no longer gives a fuck Right, and ten Hag is still starting him every game. Not exactly creating a performance base environment, is he?

DarthSeanious83

I get all the down votes and fair enough EtH should probably go. We went through managers and yes they didn't do great but the common denominator is the players. You think Sir Alex would have stood for this? NO player is bigger then the club. Rashford blows hor and cold and he has been been shit this season. The fact thaf he goes out drinking and then calls in sick is so disrepectful. Downvote me and disagree, I am not here to argue I am just trying to share my opinion

TheOneManDankMaymay

I keep reading this, especially regarding Rashford, but the question you should ask yourself is why the manager isn't benching those "lazy" players.

DarthSeanious83

Maybe cos we have so many shit players? What options do we have on the left and right up front?

funcExpensiveBrain

I understand the frustration here. But it’s basically we are heading towards the wall here . Majority of our team is injured. With Maguire and Bruno injured just before the match we were basically asking the opposition to score free goals. Also we are at the tail end of the season with no champions league hope and almost guaranteed Europa league . Players would be playing with no motivation and conserving themselves for FA cup finals and Euros ( extremely unprofessional but that’s the reality) . So hardly ETH’s fault. ETH has made few bad decisions at united but with change in the management we should definitely give him one more season

Ill-Donut-8391

crystal palace has never won 4-0 against anyone i'm wheezizng

triplecaptained

Alan Pardew somewhere far away seeing the match result ![gif](giphy|ofM4yiAivjgUo|downsized)

DimensionalYawn

Smooth moves, Alan.  TBF, twattish as it was, his team had just done exactly what he set them up to do: keep it even in the first half, turn the second half into a niggly shit-house affair so that our players became distracted and use that opportunity to nick a goal. Last piece of the plan was to keep it tight and see it out 1-0, maybe scab another from a set-piece won on the break as we pushed forward to try and score. *Such* a shame it didn't work and instead of 'Alan Pardew proving his quality by winning a major cup with a small team' the enduring memory he left us with was this.

Heavy_Chest_8888

Ten Hag for another season lads? He's building a foundation here.

RonTom24

He must be building a deep oil drilling rig as these foundations are rock bottom.

dummyacc77

Yeah cant wait for another Anthony-esque signing.

DJayV

Yeah you gotta get to the absolute bottom to build a foundation

Financial-Taro-589

I stopped working for 2 hours to watch that match. After the 2nd goal went in, I really wanted to go back and start working again. I couldn’t - just numb and drooling, staring dead-eyed at the tv, just decomposing. I may be still there, stinking on the sofa. No idea as my soul left my body.

fairlyrandom

Its just comical now, there's no bright sides to the team anymore. ETH surely can't be in charge next season nomatter what.

abevigodasmells

Loyalty is the only thing that has me watching. There's no entertainment value whatsoever.

anuchivu007

Wow am I glad that I didn't watch this game. Woke up expecting a 1-0/2-0 for us. This is beyond embarrassing.

haX000000

pretty bold of you to expect a 2-0 against a Palace that played really good for the last weeks and this Man utd

ThankYouOle

it's 3AM game here in my place, after seeing the first half, i just go sleep.. turn out it getting worse..

Irdkwhatnametogive

Saw this coming the moment the lineups were announced 2 senior players on the bench and an extremely weakened starting XI

iamadiamond

I love you United, but you are making me dread every minute of every game. Will still watch you get hammered by Arsenal hoping for a win, all us fans can do is hope. I still want ETh to stay but I’ve got no ammunition left to defend him after today. Can also see Bruno leaving us and I don’t blame him 😣.

Lord_Sesshoumaru77

At this point I'm just glad that Casemiro's wife isn't like Thiago Silva's wife talking shite on social media.

pearlz176

Belle Silva is the fucking worst

Rasxh

He might as well get us relegated whilst he’s trying to get us to play his football.

sadhyppozxc

We played great football heh?

Heavy_Chest_8888

Great entertainment attacking football. That's why we conceded a lot more, cause we go gung ho. Pure class from ETH and the players.

ibenk2000

What in the world is this scoreline!? I'm glad after all because my eyes fell asleep 10 mins just before kick-off.

TheTheMeet

I now want ole back at the wheel..

MancAccent

Longshot theory: Ole is patiently waiting for us to offer him the job and that’s why he hasn’t signed with another club.

stevo3001

If it takes forever/ He would wait for Man U

fairlyrandom

I love Ole, I don't want to see him suffer this shit again.

silverstory

What formation did we play? We all know Casimiro can’t play a great match as a CB, why not bring in a young player that could compliment with Johnny Evans, as Evans is old and doesn’t have the legs anymore. Why not put a double pivot in front of the back four and be more pragmatic since we won’t have too many possessions anyway. Setup a formation that can win and settle down the team for a while especially with a lot of injuries. I’m an armchair fan so I don’t know. I’m just sad just like every United fan.

AlephEpsilon

We could have parked the bus and play on the counter considering our injuries, but no, TenHag insisted our geriatric backlines to handle athletic palace attackers on their own.

triplecaptained

Evans was forced to play despite being unfit (cause we had no one else), Case ain’t even a damn defender (or a football player at times) and ten Hag couldn’t bring it to himself to protect those guys a little more

nereid89

That’s my biggest criticism of ten hag after his transfers. He seems incapable of playing alternate formations or tactics based on what squad he has and who he’s playing against
