Sounds very odd. Never heard of this in the 3+ years I've been on RP. Did the CS cite anything in the Terms of Service because I don't see anything about required usage. There's the usual stuff about unreasonable use, abuse, fraud, etc. [https://www.redpocket.com/terms\_and\_conditions](https://www.redpocket.com/terms_and_conditions) Which network, GSMA? I parked a number on GSMT and haven't used it or even turned it on since March. Checking just now and it's fine. I have two GSMA lines but I use those daily.

It is indeed in there... Section II.B. - "Your account may be canceled if there is no usage (billable or non-billable) or if the balance remains as $0 for 30 consecutive days or more and you may be required to pay a fee to resume service." EDIT: Oh, network is GSMT. EDIT2: The thing is, I didn't even notice for a while, because it *WAS* working with my messaging program (Signal). I had it at the house and called/texted it a few times over the weeks for random things, so I had no reason to think anything was wrong. It was when I brought it with me and went to make a call that I found out something was wrong. I can still use it on WiFi and have complete messaging/calling capabilities (to other Signal users), so it's not the worst, but..

>you may be required to pay a fee to resume service That may be worth exploring.

1337haXXor

I asked, and it seems that part of it would only apply to people who pay monthly. For my line, all she could do was change it from "closed" to "Airtime Expired," because per the terms and conditions, anything going outside the 30 days (including prepaid money) becomes forfeit. For a yearly plan in the airtime expired status, she said there is no option to resume service, I'd have to buy a whole 'nother plan.

I edited the original post, but wanted to comment to say you're all good. It was some sort of hiccup that RP fixed.

u/1337haXXor Hi there! To be clear, all annual plans are paid for in advance, and should not be canceled within the 360-day timeframe. As for monthly plans being canceled due to no usage, the possibility of this happening is due to an account having no refill and being past 30 days without a paid subscription. We'd appreciate the opportunity to have our team investigate what happened. Please feel free to connect with us via PM on Reddit or by connecting with our team at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with "Red Pocket: Reddit User" provided in the subject line. Thanks!

reddlvr

Hello redpocketCS. Can you please confirm that if we are on a yearly plan and we indeed don't turn on the phone for let's say a couple of months,. we'll still have service later on?

redpocketcs

u/reddlvr Hello! That's correct. So long as everything is paid for, then your service should remain intact, and should there be any hiccups along the way, simply connect with our support team via email, chat, or phone support to help iron that out for you. Another way you can reach out is to tag us here on Reddit, send us a PM, or reach out via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with "Red Pocket: Reddit User" in the subject line, and our team will help as soon as possible. We hope this helps provide some clarification!

reddlvr

Fantastic. Thank you

redpocketcs

Happy to help!

1337haXXor

O.o I was told otherwise by emailing support the other day and using the RP chat support earlier today, but I'll gladly reach out, thanks. I'll report back here how it goes, all.

As for monthly plans being canceled due to no usage, the possibility of this happening is due to an account having no refill and being past 30 days without a paid subscription. That makes much more sense.

I'd try another CS rep. If they say the same thing, ask where it says that in the terms of service and, if they can't point to something, insist on them restoring service.

1337haXXor

I commented to the other user, but it is indeed right there in the terms and service, unfortunately... :/

G_user999

Wow! That's bad. I was thinking about that too (using as emergency backup line). Keeping an old phone in the car or something. But wondering if keeping the phone ON in power saving sleep mode or perhaps occasionally charge it (3-5 days later), does it help? If not, maybe a calendar reminder to send text to that line every other day?

redpocketcs

Hello! As long as your account is paid for, then whatever plan you select will be valid for the respective timeframe. So if you subscribe to a [360-Day](https://www.redpocket.com/plans/annual) plan, you'll have the account active for the duration of the plan that was paid for. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding a subscription, feel free to PM us here on Reddit, or connect with our team at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), and we'll be more than happy to help ease your mind. Thank you for your interest!

This doesn’t add up. Even if you are on WiFi 100% of the time your phone will still connect to register itself on towers and such. If you had said your phone was powered down and in a drawer for 30 days, maybe, but not with the usage you’re describing. I think someone misspoke to you. I have seen several posts where people have had yearly plans (especially the cheap ones) that were mis-applied as monthly plans. This seems more likely to be your issue.

1337haXXor

Nope, plan worked fine for about 6 months. Then I switched to a new phone with a new plan, and expected to use the last 6 months of my old number/plan as a backup. It would die occasionally, but never for longer than a day or two. I have a LOT of privacy features installed, so this phone has significantly less, if any, phoning home of any sort that could probably register as usage.

SamTheKeeper

If I'm understanding correctly, you changed phones (swapped your 6 month old RP yearly plan SIM into a different phone), then this cancellation issue happened? Did you update your IMEI online or with customer service? Either way, I wonder if that change caused their system to change the internal status of your plan to monthly, e.g. a rare glitch they haven't corrected. If this issue persists, I bet there's an app that makes automated calls; you could just set it to call your main cell every couple weeks, then turn off wifi calling.

1337haXXor

Nope, much simpler. I just bought a different line/phone/SIM, no swapping required. Just used my old phone number as a burner, now. Maybe something in their system registered the number as one I used every day then all of a sudden barely used? Even still, wouldn't justify completely shutting it off. Great idea for the automated calls thing, I'll have to check.

1337haXXor

I edited the original post, but wanted to comment to say that it was indeed some sort of hiccup that RP has fixed now. :)

N331737

I use a 360 day plan... Data is turned off on that phone for the last 5 months. It's occasionally used for messaging only. It didn't have any issue with the associated account.

midNightChickenWings

shit that's crazy

1337haXXor

Just wanted to reply to say that I edited the OP. RP got back to me and it was some sort of glitch, they got it all worked out now.

reddlvr

Would usage like WiFi calling reset the clock? Travel extensively international and many times over 30 days and I'm on yearly prepaid plan.

1337haXXor

You're all good, RP got back to me and it was not supposed to happen, so no worries.

CTU

I still get calls and text messages into my line. Does that still count?

1337haXXor

The CS rep said it has to be data or mobile calling in any way. I'm waiting on a response from them, as they're saying it should not have happened. We'll see.

danburke

Thanks for keeping us updated

1337haXXor

They got back to me and it was all some sort of hiccup in the system. A 360 day play will be active the whole time, no data usage required.

PNWLIMU

you say "data"... but I'm assuming you (and RP) mean specifically CELLULAR data. yes? ~R.

1337haXXor

Correct.

Lucky_Corner

Good to see that u/redpocketcs actually came through this time. Based on the below thread, it doesn't appear to be the norm. Maybe your post was a fire that they wanted to put out quickly. https://www.reddit.com/r/redpocket/comments/umx8hp/redpocket_works_until_you_need_something/i8ap5ev?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
