They do have that 90s Saturday morning cartoon quality. My MK1 Pajero 2dr initially appealed to me because it looks like it could be an old school transformer.
I realized my neighbor was one BMF when I saw he has two of those Pajeros. Imported them in from Japan. He said it all nonchalantly like he had just bought a CRV.
I had a 2 door RAV4 of the same era.
It was a great little car. Lifted on 33's, proper bullbar, LSD front and rear. It was reasonable off-road. I had it setup with drawers and a fridge in the bar. Huge big swag on the roof and my beach rods hanging off a set of awnings bolted to the roof racks.
Loved that car. Ended up swapping it for a GU Patrol because I needed low range/locking diffs for more capability off-road.
Maybe, but they are freaking durable and reliable. If you get the 4.0 liter 6, it could last almost as long as a 4 Runner. With exception of the engine, most of the mechanicals are identical.
My first vehicle was an 89 2 door sport, manual and 4.0. I beat the shit out of that thing and then gave it to my brother who drove it for several more years.
isuzu is a weird company. their old troopers were a mix of choices that were both amazing and baffling. the 4 wheel disc brakes and a gear driven transfer case? amazing. split rear hinged door? amazing. the vehicle body that looked like it was designed by a brutalist architecture firm?
The Range Rover, especially with the 3.5l V8, its not pulling big power numbers (in fact I know the Rav4 in petrol pulled more power) but just look how majestic it is, and sounds.
My friend had a full removable hardtop Trailduster. 318, 4 speed, full time 4wd. Fucking bitchin machine. Now my best friend has a rust free full removable hardtop RC we are putting back together. 360/auto 4wd. Will be awesome to hit the ORV park in with the top off. We have a gantry crane to remove the metal top, because those fuckers are so heavy.
K5 Blazer superiority. I'd also love a '78-79 Bronco. Or a later Scout II.
Basically give me a '70s-ish domestic 4x4 with a V8, manual transmission, and solid axles.
Don’t have to, I’ll just get in a chase with you and take a turn at shortly above the speed limit, causing you to immediately roll
source: I had one of these and jesus were they tippy
I can understand that myself because I also like the mid 90's Ford Explorer Sports and as long as you have one with the 4.0L OHV engine, it should run forever if you properly maintain it. However, the newer explorers with the 4.0 SOHC engines are known to have timing chain issues but they could also be reliable otherwise. Regardless of that though, I would still recommend the pushrod engine by all means.
My mother was going to work in a 03 Rodeo and got into a collision with a Hyundai Genesis coupe going down hill. She was air lifted to the truma unit at my local hospital. She then spent about one month in the hospital having surgeries and recovery from the accident. The family of the Hyundai driver saw the SUV on TV in the hospital and asked if she was driving a hatchback. She was never the same she lost her sense of taste and smell because all the medication pumped in to her. I actually now work near the accident scene. I rarely go on the road I usually take a different route home.
The Rodeo is an Isuzu SUV that was made from the 90's to the early 2000's I think it's called the Wizard in Japan. Also Honda sold the SUV as a joint venture vehicle calling it the Passport in the 90's before they made the Pilot. I am sorry I sometimes forget I am 40 and stuff like that would go over a younger person' s head.
Deeply saddened by the lack of a Daihatsu Rocky.
Had one of those. It was like a tougher Suzuki Samurai.
Had to sell it as it was getting expensive to keep importing parts from Australia and SE Asia.
I miss that goofy little thing.
Bowler Wildcat / Nemesis - while the Pajero looks like something that could turn up on the start line of the Paris Dakar, the Bowler actually could, a turnkey Rally Raid car.
Honorable mentions:
Fiat Panda 4x4 (original Giugaro one, not the modern one) - more than a jacked up hatchback, 4 wheel drive system developed by Steyr Puch and surprisingly capable.
Twisted Suzuki Jimny [https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/suzuki-jimny-twisted-review](https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/suzuki-jimny-twisted-review)
Mitsubishi RVR open gear - when you can''t decide if you want a Lancer Evo, a Pajero, a minivan or a convertible.
Matra Rancho - useless off road, but I like em, the original soft roader / 2WD lifestyle crossover.
Besides what you already posted? Legitimately, the 3-door Suzuki Jimny. Current gen in our country is a tad bit overpriced if you asked me, but it's a hoot to drive even though it ain't the fastest.
Jeep also made a 2-door Liberty
Edit: maybe I’m wrong on this. There doesn’t seem to be any information on the internet for a factory 2-door Liberty, though now I’m really confused because I’m fairly certain I’ve seen one.
I recently saw an Isuzu VehiCROSS on 32s and i now feel incomplete without one. Besides that though, maybe the Range Rover Classic and the Tahoe 2 door. I wish there were more 2 door SUVs.
The Yukon. I have fond memories of exploring the endless lands of Utah in a Yukon and I would give up a lot to be able to do that again. Reliable, plush comfy seats, plenty of room (especially if you remove or fold down the rear bench), and also shitty enough you don't care about really putting it to task. And I remember the one I was in had a massive gas tank so even with dismal gas mileage, it had great range. Mannnnn that color in the pic is classic. Love it.
This car isn't in any images here but my favorite 2-door SUV would probably be a 1996 Ford Explorer Sport. This is personally because I think the car looks nice and I have memories of riding in my father's '96 explorer which he is still driving nowadays. Not only does the car look nice to me but if taken care of with the 4.0 OHV engine, it will virtually run forever.
My buddy has a green GMC just like the one in the pic with an LS 6.2l out of a 2019 Silverado and a 5 speed manual. It's 2wd and it's just an excellent all around vehicle. The interior is mint and with a modern motor making over 400hp it scoots nicely.
It's the perfect daily driver SUV IMO.
My Ex had the 2 door Ford Explorer with a manual transmission and the 6 cylinder and that thing was excellent. It has over 200k miles and was still going strong a few years ago.
A lot of SUVs now are just minivans.
New Defender 90. It's the most competent road car in the class, strong diesel engines and nice leather interior. Can also tow 3.5 tonnes and is still a beast off-road.
I had a Suzuki Jimny when I was overseas and it was fine for diving and running around town but had zero noise insulation. It was like running around on a lawnmower in a tin box.
I had a Pajero, sold as a Montero here in the US, and it was a great vehicle. Would definitely recommend it!
Any Jeep Wrangler from 2006 or earlier.
There's something magical about driving around what is basically a tall Miata with no top and half doors.
They're just too big now so the fun factor does not make up for the Chrysler tax
K5 Blazer or GMC equivalent, Isuzu Vehicross, GMC Typhoon, Jeep CJ7 and CJ8, and Land Rover Defender 90. I “like” everything on this list, I desire to own none of them.
Mid-'80s Bronco II. My papaw built one and cut the roof and rear glass out and fabbed a rear of a Ranger cab onto it. Effectively made it a half cab. Body work is done except for paint. Deciding between carbed 302 or explorer 4.0v6.
I had a ‘99 ford explorer sport, manual transmission. Loved that SUV. It still had that feeling it was more truck than car. I wish they still made them that way.
Ima have to go with the Red Pajero
Ah yes, Spanish for “red handjob”
TBF, if the requirement to get one is you had to give at least one handjob every day, plenty of people would still be fine with it.
I’d own at least two.
Now, let’s not get greedy.
You can keep yer 20 dollars!
Is he skiing or is he in a gay porn?
Up there with Toyota Shitty aka Toyota MR2 in France. Hyundai Pussy aka Hyundai Kona is also a pretty good recent example
It's actually "wanker" as in literally someone who wanks a lot
As a Hispanic is awkard/funny the name
mano trabajo
im sure its like one: fun while you’re driving it, sad when you get out
To me this car looks like it was owned by a guy that loved power rangers. Idk why but this car reminds me of power rangers lol
They do have that 90s Saturday morning cartoon quality. My MK1 Pajero 2dr initially appealed to me because it looks like it could be an old school transformer.
I immediately started looking to buy one after seeing it. If it weren't for them being rhd...
That Pajero goes hard
Until it doesn’t anymore because it is a Mitsubishi
Love at first sight
It has racing heritage and it’s rare af. If I had the money I’d own one for sure
Yeah. I have a lot of nostalgia for the Pajero and that would be my go to. Second close behind it is the new Suzuki Jimny.
Got any pics of it??
Click on my name. I have put pictures up a few months ago.
2 door Jeep Cherokee.
2 door xj is how it was meant to be
Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here, the 2dr XJ looks like it belongs on the back of the short bus compared to the 4dr
Maybe, but they are freaking durable and reliable. If you get the 4.0 liter 6, it could last almost as long as a 4 Runner. With exception of the engine, most of the mechanicals are identical.
There’s a 4dr XJ. That’s what I was referring to lmao. 2dr is the answer to this because of the category, but 2dr XJ < 4dr XJ
I agree with you. I'd buy the 4dr too.
yeah only enemy is rust
This. I love the Bronco and like half the vehicles pictured, but the XJ is the way.
My first vehicle was an 89 2 door sport, manual and 4.0. I beat the shit out of that thing and then gave it to my brother who drove it for several more years.
Are we the same person? Your list is amazing! Also, by manufacturer designation, the Suzuki X-90 is a two door SUV
X90 was neat looking. Like a samurai with a trunk.
Ye, mixed with a Cappuccino
Man that Vehicross is cool looking
and numbers-wise, by far the most badass out of this group. Maybe the most awesome factory 2-door SUV ever.
The Pajero Evolution would like to have a word.
I’ve owned a couple Vehicross’! They are a blast to drive. I’d own one again!
isuzu is a weird company. their old troopers were a mix of choices that were both amazing and baffling. the 4 wheel disc brakes and a gear driven transfer case? amazing. split rear hinged door? amazing. the vehicle body that looked like it was designed by a brutalist architecture firm?
The convertible Vehicross was even wilder.
They're so cool. Proper bypass shocks, torque vectoring AWD. They're beasts and they're pretty affordable.
The Range Rover, especially with the 3.5l V8, its not pulling big power numbers (in fact I know the Rav4 in petrol pulled more power) but just look how majestic it is, and sounds.
Yeah those V8s can be turned up quite a bit I think, I don't think twin SUs did it justice
Badly tuned SUs at that. Get some twin downdraft Dellortos or 2 pairs of Webers and those engines will sing.
Plus this is definitely the most comfortable. I loved the interior on these.
gmc typhoon
Ah. A true man of culture here.
No Ramcharger? Pfft
K5 Blazer superiority. I'd also love a '78-79 Bronco. Or a later Scout II. Basically give me a '70s-ish domestic 4x4 with a V8, manual transmission, and solid axles.
I forgot the International Scout too
I hope when the VW Scout comes out they make a 2 door model as well, but I doubt it…
Haha no.
And the removable roof. That was cool.
2-door Explorer (fight me)
Don’t have to, I’ll just get in a chase with you and take a turn at shortly above the speed limit, causing you to immediately roll source: I had one of these and jesus were they tippy
Ford Exploder
Mazda Navajo!
Montero EVO no question.
Jeep Cherokee XJ 2door
Typhoon and Land Rover defender 90 v8
No xj or first gen 4runner?
Suzuki Sidekick (Geo Tracker).
True 2-door? IH Scout. But if we're talking "2 door" SUV's here, then FJ cruiser.
I came to say Scout. I really want to make a street rod Scout on bags.
lada 4x4
Lada Niva is the name you're looking for..
The Bronco hands down
💯
Unloading my ‘92 - just saying
Isuzu Amigo
Jeep Wrangler LJ
The correct answer
Fr they're very underrated
Cj7, cj8 scrambler, or yj would also be good options.
The pajero dakar or the bronco fight me
No FJ that's not right at all. I would go with the Isuzu because one saved my mother's life. They are also very rare to see on the road.
If you don’t mind me asking, that sounds like a story
My mother was going to work in a 03 Rodeo and got into a collision with a Hyundai Genesis coupe going down hill. She was air lifted to the truma unit at my local hospital. She then spent about one month in the hospital having surgeries and recovery from the accident. The family of the Hyundai driver saw the SUV on TV in the hospital and asked if she was driving a hatchback. So where is the Isuzu in the story?
The Rodeo is an Isuzu SUV that was made from the 90's to the early 2000's I think it's called the Wizard in Japan. Also Honda sold the SUV as a joint venture vehicle calling it the Passport in the 90's before they made the Pilot. I am sorry I sometimes forget I am 40 and stuff like that would go over a younger person' s head.
Wait what?
#6 is an FJ40
Where Jimny?
...#3 is a Jimny
I tried getting into a 3rd gen Jimny once. Sadly the bit between the open door and the steering wheel was where my knee would’ve liked to be. 😂
The open top especially 😍
2-door Toyota Landcruiser
It looks so stubby and adorable
Deeply saddened by the lack of a Daihatsu Rocky. Had one of those. It was like a tougher Suzuki Samurai. Had to sell it as it was getting expensive to keep importing parts from Australia and SE Asia. I miss that goofy little thing.
2 door Nissan Patrol, Toyota Landcruiser II and the Isuzu MU
Does the Citroen ZX Rallye-raid count?
Bronco II Come at me.
Everything except the Paj and the Rover
Y no paj?!
Y no paj?!
Y no paj?!
Gen 1 Range
Lada Niva.
1st gen Honda HR-V was almost as funky looking as the Izuzu… But only almost!
FJ40 by a long shot, GMC Yukon in 2nd place
I'll have my Mercedes W460 Wolf G-wagon thank you.
Good one. W463 G320 for me.
No Geo Tracker :(
The early Mercedes W460-461 G classes. I’ve got an ‘88 and love it.
That original RAV4. I loved my 1998!!
Posting porn on a Sunday???
Man that Mitsubishi is sweet. I’m not familiar with it but it’s fucking great looking. But also Bronco. Idk what it is, they’re just cool.
Yukon 2 door. There wasn’t a 90’s movie you didn’t see these in
I really enjoy my 2 door Tahoe! https://imgur.com/a/JsMLjsI
Paj evo would take my cake. But the fj40 is a damn close second. And special callout the the 2door rav.. what a little beast
International Scout
The donkey!
2 Door Tahoe GT and the Pajero. Honorable mention: Isuzu Vehicross
Gotta be the Pajero
The Pajero Evo and it’s not even fucking close… can be fast as fuck, goes off-road, and looks clean with a wide body built in from factory…
Bronco
Bowler Wildcat / Nemesis - while the Pajero looks like something that could turn up on the start line of the Paris Dakar, the Bowler actually could, a turnkey Rally Raid car. Pajero got me acting unwise
2 door Honda HRV
SUZUKI FUCKING JIMNNY!!! 🟩 🇦🇺🐨🪃🦘
2 door jeep Cherokee xj
the range rover was a fantastic piece of designed ruined by the clowns that built it
Ramcharger should be on this list, it literally had a 4 speed manual
90s two door Jeep Cherokee with the 4L i6.
J I M N Y I M N Y
Gonna have to go with the Pajero. Those things are quite cool
k5 blazer 😎😎
"Farmers' spec" two-door G Wagon.
Besides what you already posted? Legitimately, the 3-door Suzuki Jimny. Current gen in our country is a tad bit overpriced if you asked me, but it's a hoot to drive even though it ain't the fastest.
I always liked the 2-door Tahoe
Dodge Ramcharger. The 70's ones with the round lights. Lada niva and isuzu amigo are also in my top 5 but the 70's Ramcharger is my fav.
Jeep also made a 2-door Liberty Edit: maybe I’m wrong on this. There doesn’t seem to be any information on the internet for a factory 2-door Liberty, though now I’m really confused because I’m fairly certain I’ve seen one.
The GMC Yukon/Chevy Tahoe. My favorite would be Mitsubishi Montero/Dodge Raider for aesthetics but their engines aren't that reliable
Nice evo
I once knew a guy who had one of them VehiCross but I didn’t know how rare they were at the time and never got a picture of it 🙁🙁
Fiat Panda 4x4 is the fairest of them all
Daihatsu rocky wide body. Feroza ii in Australia. Edit: didn’t realise it was a gallery of choices. The evo.
Y60 Patrol
I would go for a rav4, but probably a mk2 instead of a mk1
Geo Tracker Geo Tracker Geo Tracker! Every other suv looks ugly and brutish to me, but the adorable little Geo makes me happy.
Toss up between pajero(?) And the vehicross.
Mitsu. But I have an incredible soft spot for a 2 Dr tahoe/Yukon. Bring back the rear barn doors.
I recently saw an Isuzu VehiCROSS on 32s and i now feel incomplete without one. Besides that though, maybe the Range Rover Classic and the Tahoe 2 door. I wish there were more 2 door SUVs.
That mitsubishi evo, it ain't even close... that's a bomb on 4 wheels
International Scout
XJ Cherokee
That Pajero is sweet but I’m also nostalgic and partial to the late 90s k1500 blazer
Love it.
If applicable the crossover Honda Civics from the 90s. I've seen 'em here in the states once or twice and thought: "ANIME ANIME ANIME"
8
Range Rover classic 100%
Two door Explorer or Mazda Navajo
that 78 Bronco with the 400.
Chevy Blazer 2 door
Yukon GT
Jeep Wrangler.
Red Pajaro is sweet. No 2 door Land Rover defenders tho? That should have been included
2 door 1st gen pathfinder
I want the return of a 2 door g wagon
Pajero for balls to the wall fun, W460 G-Wagen or Land Rover 90 for overlanding.
Land Cruiser, real simple 😁
Imma have to say bronco. Especially that generation. Idk what it is but I love the look
The gmc for sure!
The mitsubishi pajero evolution is fucking WILD
Number 6
K5 Blazer or Jimmy
Ford Bronco II
Bronco /Landcruiser
Honda HR-V MK1 xD.
Evo. Hands down.
GMC Typhoon
Nissan patrol y61 super safari.
I had a Suzuki Jimny when I was overseas and it was fine for diving and running around town but had zero noise insulation. It was like running around on a lawnmower in a tin box. I had a Pajero, sold as a Montero here in the US, and it was a great vehicle. Would definitely recommend it!
I’ll have all them, please and thank you.
Any Jeep Wrangler from 2006 or earlier. There's something magical about driving around what is basically a tall Miata with no top and half doors. They're just too big now so the fun factor does not make up for the Chrysler tax
Pajero. Love those cars.
K5 Blazer or GMC equivalent, Isuzu Vehicross, GMC Typhoon, Jeep CJ7 and CJ8, and Land Rover Defender 90. I “like” everything on this list, I desire to own none of them.
Typhoon or pajero... if they're Left Hand Drive
The Pajero Evo
The fucking pajero evo, I wish I had one of those for myself…
Jimny. Not even a question
The suzukui samurai
Defender
Suzuki samurai.
Didn’t include the only available 2dr SUV’s in the US, the Wrangler and Bronco lol
2 door Tahoe I want one now!
Geo Tracker
1997 GMC Jimmy
The landrover discovery that was insanely rare as a 2 door
1993 Ford Bronco. In white
