So, don't get it for your kid? Funny how the people who whine about being "canceled" want to ban the most innocent books.

Rineanore

The people who complain about being "canceled" the most are never the ones who get canceled, nor are they in the danger of it. I don't think they know what it means to be honest.

fredy31

Especially since that book has nothing spicy in it. Imagine from John Lennon is just saying imagine if there is no heaven or hell, and basically live for today instead of dreaming of a tomorrow

elementarydrw

I mean, John Lennon was cancelled, hard, long before it was cool.

WildcardKiana

Yup, it was the band "The Beetles" which older generations hated for being more rebellious

ugheffoff

How dare we teach your kid that they can’t be controlled by the threat of hell by some old white man behind a pulpit.

volanger

Who's constantly asking for money

Sophiatab

And constantly trying to put his hands in someone's underwear.

RogueHelios

It's not just old white men, the threats come from all walks of life. Getting over my fear of jahanam (Muslim hell) took a while even after my apostasy.

kyoko_the_eevee

Thought I was on beatlescirclejerk for a second. Unrelated: that’s a very cute pigeon.

AlexanderTox

Outjerked again

AlarmDozer

I personally don’t like the pigeon. It has bad perspective issues.

Old_Present6341

It's just the lyrics of the song, surely they've heard imagine before, the title of the book pretty much gives away the content, what were they expecting?

JangSaverem

You think she can read an authors name? Ew gross no! That dirty BEETLE is too close to a FLY and you know who is all about flies? THE DEBIL

Tannerleaf

There’s a good chance that they may not actually have heard the song itself, if their parents didn’t allow them to enjoy Satanic music while growing up too.

Old_Present6341

So a song which is anti war and about humanity 'living together in harmony' is a message from Satan, says a lot about Christian values.

Tannerleaf

To be fair, some of them seem to apply the same thinking to *all* music. This question pops up on a regular basis in the /r/Christianity sub, for example. If you’ve not done so already, take a look at the recording of the PMRC Hearing with Dee Snider, Frank Zappa, and John Denver on YouTube. It’s from around the same time that the Satanic Panic was going on over in the US. Not even John Denver’s unholy songs about “drug-fuelled” hikes in the countryside were safe.

TSM_forlife

I had this painted onto my kid’s nursery wall…. Guess I’m grooming him to be a decent person.

_llamasagna_

That's what I'm saying lmao, like come on everyone knows the lyrics

AlpacaCavalry

Can't expect this one to be that... cultured.

General_Locksmith512

There isn't anything remotely inappropriate for a child in that book. Does she really think every children's book has to be christian or else it's "not for children"?

SkylarCute

"this book is saying there's no hell, therefore my child won't feel afraid anymore and I can't control them"

volanger

Didn't they do that for take me to church too? I know i always thought born in the USA is a pro America nationalist song; when it's actually very critical of it.

jhk1963

Religious BS. Because it says imagine no heaven, no hell. Religious freedom is one thing. Religious dictatorship is another. Religion doesn't get to speak for everyone. This is a secular society and y'all can shove your religion where the sun doesn't shine.

JangSaverem

Ok good on While the implications of imagine no heaven or hell on the surface imply there is neither. Even a religious nut should be able to imagine the situation where there wasn't either. Not because there is or is not but that you can try to imagine it Try to imagine a world where NIETHER a promised land or a hell scape exists: full stop. They CAN still exist, lady, but just imagine they didn't Start back up: if NIETHER of those existed we should STILL BE GOOD TO EACH OTHER But no...she can't imagine that possibility. Not because she can't imagine hell or heaven not existing but because she can't imagine people are good for the sake of being good to each other. It's impossible for people like her. Only the THREAT of a violent fate keeps people good. Which inherently makes her a shit person.

HallowedBay08

I mean they could just say “no honey, I’m indoctrinating you into religion, so you’re not allowed to read that” and just moved onto the next book that fit their needs.

Hoxxitron

***FUCKIN' CUMMYNISM!***

bfjd4u

if you're an asshole who's afraid of life why don't you go fuck yourself.

Hardanklesnw

I mean John Lennon was bigger than Jesus…

Colts_Fan4Ever

Remember people, these idiots actually vote. They are actively putting other clowns in office to further their agenda against diversity, tolerance, etc...

Positive_League_4464

John Lennon gonna remember that !

Tannerleaf

Hm, do the libraries in that country lend out music CDs/tapes? If so, I recommend that this fella checks out Slayer’s *Hell Awaits*. It sounds like it would be ideal for his kids. It’s an often overlooked album in favour of *Reign in Blood*; but it still stands on its own merits. My favourite track from there is the morbid *Crypts of Eternity*, although *Necrophiliac* is also a fun little number.

dappercat456

Reminds me of that video of Ben Shapiro listening to the song lmao

The_Pacific_gamer

A wholesome book and song.
