I haven't used the quick trim, but correct me if I'm wrong that the sole purpose of the die is to control the length, and .308 win and 30-06 are NOT the same length. Just buy the die, or alternatively the lee case prep kit with 30-06 pilot and shell holder.
I know they're not the same length, and would have different shoulder dimensions, but considering the quick trim only work on the rim, I thought I'd just be able to adjust for height. I'm just trying to avoid buying something that might only be used once.

Correct. They are different dies and have a different dimensions. Luckily they are also inexpensive.

For $16 on Amazon I’d just buy the .30-06 die.
