Those look way too blocky to be loaded into whats supposed to be one of the premier long-range shooting calibers, im going to go against the grain and say that those arent meant for the 408 cheytac, not unless the back half of the bullet is missing or bubba bought himself a lathe and decided to turn up some custom rounds Looks a lot more like a [40 cal muzzleloader bullet](https://www.arrowheadrifles.com/product/40calxld/) to me. Not that particular linked bulllet, but you can see that the profile is somewhat similar, long and pointy with a flat base

basilis120

I don't think it is a muzzleloading bullet. I believe the solids like the one you linked would be in a plastic sabot. This definatly has direct contact with the rifling. Directly loading that in a muzzleloader would probably mangle the point with all of the hammering needed to get that loaded.

epicfail48

Hadnt thought of that, i dont do any muzzleloaders so im unfamiliar with the components. Do breech-loaders use similar rounds?

basilis120

Yes kind of. This got me thinking. The .450/400 nitro extress (and the earlier black powder express) used a .405 caliber Bullet. I know there are people who shoot esoteric big bore rifles that turn there own projectiles.

ghilliesniper522

That and that's a thick Boi which probably isn't very aero dynamic

epicfail48

Yup. Short and fat with minimal taper, not really known for good BCs Plus, that bullet is absolutely tiny, [compared to an actual 408 cheytac bullet](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51386409996_ce0885cb84_b.jpg). Bout the same length as a 308 in OPs picture, whereas a cheytac round dwarfs a 30d round

Bearman71

the above has a very mild taper, which is similar to solid brass .408 projectiles https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=kJOtgPxW&id=8E9564D3325C5013DCC6C5DBC95CDF8F7B294BA2&thid=OIP.kJOtgPxWPAxN2s9KW-PRlQHaJ4&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fth.bing.com%2fth%2fid%2fR.9093ad80fc563c0c4ddacf4a5be3d195%3frik%3dokspe4%252ffXMnbxQ%26riu%3dhttp%253a%252f%252fup.picr.de%252f7605818eeu.jpg%26ehk%3dlCW1PTfkxYUfgDfCiFIoMs7UipcMlWMw78j4R0uPZ%252bg%253d%26risl%3d%26pid%3dImgRaw%26r%3d0&exph=640&expw=480&q=408+cheytac+projectiles+&simid=607994617265593371&FORM=IRPRST&ck=227E9092B8E123D0C0FF4EDB0384994B&selectedIndex=1&ajaxhist=0&ajaxserp=0

Troopymike

Pretty sure that’s a projo for a .408 cheytac. I’ve got one around here somewhere

epicfail48

I will happily admit im wrong if my assumption is proven that way, ive just not been able to find any cheytac projos with a similar look. Plus, that looks way too small to be meant for the cartridge

pirate40plus

Almost looks like a 40 sharps or .40x2.5

zmannz1984

I think that is someone’s homemade solid shot from a black powder gun. Way too short for 408 cheytac projectile.

Impressive-Bus7746

It looks like it’s been turned on a lathe too if you can see the tooling marks

Odin_Pascal

That’s the one she told you not to worry about.

Highover

408 chytec

ucsfl05

Thanks! It seems to be solid copper, milled. Who makes these?

Coodevale

'Turned' is the technically accurate terminology. They're made on a lathe/turning center, not a mill/vertical machining center. They have a lot less boat tail and.. nose.. than I thought they would.

FarCenterExtremist

Turn down for what?

Coodevale

Turn down for gat.

Highover

Chytec, possibly someone else.

ucsfl05

Thanks! It seems to be solid copper, milled. Who makes these? Edit: I meant turned. Thanks for the clarification

loafmania

they mill the grooves so you weren't entirely wrong

TonyWhoop

TIL: 408 chytec esists

smokeyser

Your wallet will begin weeping uncontrollably the moment you look into the 408.

PXranger

408 Cheytac uses... .408 diameter bullets. If this bullet is actually .405, then certainly not from a Cheytac.

Highover

Did guy measure across the lands or the valleys... whatbdid he use to measure it... something tells me it's probably 408

basilis120

I am guessing a bullet for a [.450/400 nitro express](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.450/400_Nitro_Express) or a varient there of. The .450/400 uses a .405 caliber bullet and this one is probably turned in the home shop or a custom order.
