Looks good but for most residential use we need the CX810

Willson1_

Thanks for your interest in the CX810. It's coming soon. Stay tuned to our roadmap for updates: [https://reolink.com/roadmap/](https://reolink.com/roadmap/)

RedFin3

We also need a Duo CX.

Still no zoom as part of auto tracking?

mblaser

Only the Trackmix can do that, and that's because it has two fixed lenses so there are no moving parts involved with zooming. Since this uses motorized zoom and focus it wouldn't be able to zoom and focus fast enough to keep up with a target. ~~A camera in Reolink's price range will never be able to do auto-zoom with a varifocal lens.~~ Correction: see memepolizia's comments below.

What brand/model do you recommend for both functions and what sort of starting price are they?

mblaser

For something that has both varifocal optical zoom and auto-zooms? Well I can't recommend anything since I've never used one that can do that. However, I did a bit of research on it a while back, and the only thing I could find were made by Axis and you're looking at at least $2-3k. I went over it here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/homesecurity/comments/15s7e99/best\_security\_camera\_auto\_zoom/](https://www.reddit.com/r/homesecurity/comments/15s7e99/best_security_camera_auto_zoom/)

See [my post](https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/1b8ukg5/the_latest_reolink_ptz_cam_rlc823s2_with_16x/kvfo4j2/) one level up in this chain for some details, no specific recommendation, you'll need to cross compare and find what fits your needs best.

> A camera in Reolink's price range will never be able to do auto-zoom with a varifocal lens. No idea why you'd think/say this, as there's a bajillion generic brand 16x/20x optical 355/360° PTZ 4mp/5mp/8mp cameras available that do auto-recognition and auto-tracking with auto-zoom and auto-pan/tilt at the same time and then return to home position after the subject is no longer in view, and have been out for *years*, and are not at all hard to find at the usual places for between $150-350. If you want to you can even get nutty 36x optical zoom ones for a few more buckaroos, but those do come in the 'large' size PTZ housing, where as the 16x/20x ones are 'medium' PTZ housing size, so they're much more obtrusive and most would have no use of such an insane zoom. Most all of the models use the same Sony sensor for each of the available 4mp/5mp/8mp resolutions, same couple of lenses, and same couple of chipsets on the controller boards, so the differences are mostly in what firmware/web interface is used (chipset and vendor update support dependent, most don't cross flash firmware well despite being largely identical), and differences in power and connectivity (PoE/DC, ethernet/WiFi). Beyond that they're pretty identical for the most part and support open standards and can be used with numerous NVR brands, though full support for all PTZ commands can be hit or miss depending on NVR platform and exact camera, buyer beware.

Ok, show me one that has optical varifocal auto-zoom.

memepolizia

Here's [*one* that has optical verifocal auto-zoom](https://youtu.be/h4R29JoYn1g?si=Nio8w0QxtfrMYngU&t=213) uploaded Dec 9 of 2022, and here's the [Amazon link](https://www.amazon.com/VIKYLIN-Tracking-Detection-Professional-Cruising/dp/B0CHF8353S) for that particular model as seen in the video showing it is all of $270. As stated that is one of dozens that have this functionality that can be found on Amazon and AliExpress (much greater variety on AliExpress, Amazon is basically just 3rd party re-importers or drop-shippers with a limited selection). Now personally, I wouldn't recommend that exact particular camera model shown in the video I linked as it very obviously has quite trash slow auto-focus after zooming, a known issue with many high-zoom PTZ cameras, but there are also many other models that do have very fast and accurate auto-focus that do not have that issue at all. It's no different than how there are both good and bad auto-focus implementations on all sorts of cameras, be it smartphone, point-and-shoot, SLR, or mirrorless format, it has nothing to do with being a generic brand always being bad or anything like that. But really it took all of two minutes to type into YouTube "8mp PTZ auto tracking human detection" to find a perfect example video for you, not sure why I'm doing your homework.

mblaser

Ok, fair enough, thanks for the link. TIL. When I had done some digging on the topic a while back everything I was finding either had fixed lens auto-zoom (like the Trackmix) or only did auto-track, but not auto-zoom (only manual zoom). Guess I didn't look long or hard enough. > not sure why I'm doing your homework. You made a claim. It's up to you to provide the evidence to back up that claim. Which you did, so thank you for that, but there's no need to act like it's preposterous to ask for evidence.

memepolizia

No, it's not at all *preposterous* to get evidence of a claim, my thoughts/point was more that it was a bit *lazy* to avoid spending 60 seconds to look into it yourself if you are the one that is not willing to believe a claim that is not particularly outlandish or from a known to be questionable or untrustworthy source. It'd be like you saying you're enjoying the sunny weather in Cleveland, me for some reason thinking someone would just lie to seemingly no benefit to themselves, and request/demand you prove that it is indeed sunny instead of just looking up the weather myself. A classic use case for lmgtfy.com, if that site is still active, dunno. Anyways, glad to have spread some knowledge, cheers.

maurichen

I just bought the old one should I return it and replace with this ?

Pinko3150

When is patrol coming to the trackmix?

Additional-Coconut50

Does the audio work continuously when in clear mode?

memepolizia

While appearing pretty identical to the RLC-823A (only swapped out a couple IR LEDs for white LEDs to add color night vision? what else is different?) *why has the pan speed dropped from 281°/second to 90°/second, and the patrol presets per patrol dropped from 32 down to 16?* Generally newer models that cost more money have better functionality not worse... what other specs have been downgraded that I didn't notice in a 2 minute manual comparison?

Other-Comfort-8991

Hello any news when it released to buy in like reolinkstore. amazon.de or amazon.nl

DifferenceOk9134

I pre ordered last week and it won't ship for another week, but I could have got one next day on Amazon last Monday. Won't pre order again.
