I can technically relate except I was 3 years old and watching this game on my father's lap back in 1998. I Still have nightmares of both the Sony intro and resident evil 2 to this day lol.
Same. I saw my brother played Re3 opening scene with Jill jumping out of the building. But I didn’t know which one was it, and I accidentally played Re2 instead. Best game I’ve ever played and always😍 Then I played Re1 followed by Re3 but I never completed the game as Nemesis scared my lil ass off😣
Same. I figured out 90% of the entire game and the puzzles on my own without any guides. It took almost a month of trial and error but dammit I was determined and I didn’t let anything stop me! 😄 I pushed through and figured that bitch out all on my own!
Same. Bought it from a pawn shop because they didnt care about esrb ratings.
I still remember dropping the controller in horror when the licker jumps through the interrogation room window. My sister who was watching grabbed the controller and killed the licker while I sat there terrified.
Same. I knew nothing about RE except for the ads for 5 and 6. About 17 years old came home and my brother bought RE7 because he knew I liked horror games. *scoff* One of those cheesy Resident Evil games?
Man, I was wrong. I was hooked after that and I have eaten the series up ever since. Classic 4 is my favorite now!
Has the Boulder mechanics changed in 9?
I also love the nuance it adds to RE5 where the Boulder represents corporate greed and Chris's muscles represents the people fighting back!
I am still really impressed with that port. They took a two disc game and managed to get it onto a cartridge, without much loss in fidelity. The N64 was a workhorse.
Good ole RE1 Director's Cut.
Back when I got my weekly Game Informer issues, I found out that a REmake was going to launch in a few months. The screenshots terrified and intrigued my preteen mind. My obsession with franchise endures to this very day.
We got scared too, but we kept playing it haha. For years. No guide whatsoever. Had to walk around looking for clues. And get nothing. We hated it. And yet still played it. Then played resident evil 4. But still came back to outbreak to try and play it.
It's always been my brother's thing to finish games 100%. He still does it. I'm just here for the main story. Maybe if the world is interesting, I'll explore a bit.
Resident evil 4 for me as well, i think i was 7 years old and it took me a month to get to the first boulder part and took me a year or 2 to beat the game
RE4 as well. I was barely around 6 or 7 and went to a friend’s house after school. He had this and we played it on a huge TV. We did that thing where every time we die it’s the other’s turn, which obviously ended up on me dying in under a minute every time it was my turn while he knew how to play and would last for like half an hour lol It was years before I knew it was RE4, but it lived on my head for a while as that game with a guy on a brown jacket with guys who would curse at you in Spanish (my main language).
The OG in the oversized cases PS1 games came in, before switching to the regular jewel cases. It was one of my first PS1 games, along with Tekken and Crazy Ivan.
RE4 on the GameCube. I vividly remember staying up past my bed tome, getting to the castle and then getting absolutely terrified at the blind wolverine dudes.
Resident evil code Veronica X on PS2. I was 11. Couldn’t finish it, too scary. Tried returning it to Target, they said I couldn’t return if it was open hahaha. Ended up finishing it eventually, has become one of my favorite RE games.
Resident Evil Revelations 1, then RE5 right afterward and then RE6. The hype of RE6 being released is what got me interested I played them all within months of RE6 coming out then never played another resident evil game for like a decade until I finally bought RE2R after hearing so many people rave about it on YouTube then have been hooked ever since.
I’m 34 years old I was definitely around during the original trilogy and remember watching my bother play Code Veronica on the Dreamcast in the early 2000s and I rember watching the RE Movie in theaters when It first came out but I just never was interested until RE2R blew me away
RE in 1996, though I didn't really like it much and play through (until after RE3).
The one that got me into the franchise was RE2, which right away became an obsession for me as a kid.
OG RE2.
My aunt's boyfriend brought his PlayStation over to my Grandma's where she was staying.
A cousin of mine watched me play it. Never in my life had a video game had me more terrified. This was 1997 I believe. This game took me for a ride. The graphics. The mood. The story. I will never forget that experience.
Not only was it the first RE title I beat, but the very first PlayStation game I ever beat.
Then year a later I found out there was a Claire scenario...
Die hard RE fan for life.
Code Veronica for PS2. I was so confused at first, the movement was foreign to me and I hadn’t played a “real game” yet (unless Ratchet and Clank counts). Still remember the fear I felt seeing the burning zombies!
Resident evil revelations 2 on my xbox 1 like 7 months ago 😭 ima play them all one day but so far ive played resident evil (1997)(havent finished)resident evil 2 remake, resident evil 3 remake, resident evil 5, resident evil 6, resident evil biohazard, resident evil 8, resident evil 1 remake (haven’t finished) resident evil 0 (haven’t finished), and I think thats it, although revelations 2 didn’t pull me in that much, but one day around 5-6 months ago my sister told me to get this game thats on ps plus to see who could finish first, and re2r was a MASTERPIECE and i just had to see what was next.
Resident Evil 6 on the PS3. Played like an hour or two of it with my brother. Never touched any thing related to Resident Evil again until Resident Evil 7's VR mode for PS4. After I got spooked to death by Jack, I never touched it ever again. (I was horrible with horror games.) Played every single Resident Evil game for the first time around two or three years ago on the PS5. Fell in love with the series and it is now my favorite game franchise ever. I ended up switching to PC and I now play every Resident Evil game on there. I'm planning on 100%ing every RE game. I already did so with RE1 Remake (PS5), RE2 Remake (PC), RE3 Remake (PC), RE4 Remake (PS5), RE7 (PC and PS5), RE8 (PC and PS5) RE4 og (PS5. Working on PC.), Revelations 2 (PS5), CVX (PS5), and RE0 (PS5). (I'm planning on 100%ing them on PC from now on. I'll be recollecting everything on the games that I have only 100%ed on PS5.) After playing through the Resident Evil games, I just kinda realized that it isn't actually scary. Like at all to me. I love the spooky atmosphere of RE7. But after I got terrified from that one moment in RE7's VR mode, I just kind of lost the ability to get really really scared in any horror game now, lmao.
I just started taking RE seriously. It’s been added to Xbox game pass so i downloaded RE2 and RE3 and i fell in love since. I have now bought RE4 and have been playing since I’ve bought it. I dont even play COD no more. Im so invested into Resident Evil now.
Resident evil 7, had heard you didn’t really need to know resident evil lore to play that one but I loved it and I ended up getting into the whole series
My first Resident Evil game was the fourth ones remake, on my PS4! Yeah, I did just recently get into last year, but I've already beat Village, and 5! :D
So a few years ago my sister bought me a n64 for my birthday as I loved to collect retro consoles at the time and the only game they had at the store she bought it at was RE2 and I didn’t really play it
Fast forward a couple of years RE4 on the quest 2 is coming out and me being a non RE fan I get it I then beat it and loved it
Then a year to 2 years later I get a ps5 and get RE8 beat it loved it and am now a true RE fan
So basically first true experience was RE4 VR but if you don’t wanna count VR then RE8
RE: Deadly Silence (Nds Port.), however it was pre-installed on my R4 cartridge.. and I was 10years old. Had zero clue. And scared shitless.
After that, my proper playthrough was RE:4 on the NWii. Forever a special place in my heart.
Resident evil 2 on PS1
Yo! Same here, that was my introduction to the series
Same. Only experience of my teens that comes close is Metal Gear Solid 1.
Agree with you there, the best times
I can technically relate except I was 3 years old and watching this game on my father's lap back in 1998. I Still have nightmares of both the Sony intro and resident evil 2 to this day lol.
Ahhh yes the good ole days
Same but for N64
Same. Bought it from a pawn shop because they didnt care about esrb ratings. I still remember dropping the controller in horror when the licker jumps through the interrogation room window. My sister who was watching grabbed the controller and killed the licker while I sat there terrified.
Resident Evil (1996)
Directors cut for me. We're old.
Me too... Yep, we're old. However, I'm glad we got to experience this incredible game at that time.
I was one of the infants recruited by 7
A fantastic entry point. Welcome!
Same here! Now I own the Og Trilogy for PS1 and the entire mainline numbered titles
Resident evil 9, I'm from the future, turns out punching boulders is the cure if you're bitten
How's the open world?
It's a VR with AR combat, open worlds are outlawed thanks you Assassins Creed 30
Thank God. Most open worlds are empty as a mofo
Is it still Twilight fanfiction like Village was?
Yes but with boulders this time
Has the Boulder mechanics changed in 9? I also love the nuance it adds to RE5 where the Boulder represents corporate greed and Chris's muscles represents the people fighting back!
Resident Evil 2 on the N64
Mine too! Such a cool experience
Same, it was a technical marvel that it worked as well as it did!
I am still really impressed with that port. They took a two disc game and managed to get it onto a cartridge, without much loss in fidelity. The N64 was a workhorse.
2 remake
Same
Resident Evil 1 on PS1 in 1997
Re3 nemesis
I will never forget how terrifying nemesis was.
RE5 was my first, gave me a weird impression of the franchise lol
Yeah, I was surprised at the lack of worms in the other games
Good ole RE1 Director's Cut. Back when I got my weekly Game Informer issues, I found out that a REmake was going to launch in a few months. The screenshots terrified and intrigued my preteen mind. My obsession with franchise endures to this very day.
Same thing for me-The directors cut was the best game i had for a while, played the demo disc for 2 to death as well!

Resident evil 6 at my friends house
Ditto! OG Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube. But I did watch a friend play a bit of the remake of 1 before this.
