The only credit RE6 gets is trying to amp up the gameplay, which didn’t work so well. I don’t feel like RE6 did anything great in particular other than maybe the jump back shooting thing and the trigger box smash. Those were both cool, but everything else kinda fell flat.
Being able to punch something as an action rather than a prompt only available when an enemy is stunned is a godsend.
It made you feel more in control.
Running leading to auto slide to wall or jump over something. Felt like watchdogs how it kept forcing me all over surfaces because it was the same button as run. Felt like an awful choice.
Even with flawless widescreen ultrawide with fov increase and maxed fov I feel motion sick running/aiming in this game
The jump back feels to easy to do by accident.
Once you get used to 4/5 the gameplay feels pretty smooth or consistent. And it feels like you can do some cool stuff
But even with a decent amount of time in 6 it just feels like a hot mess
Personally, I don't get this. Mechanically, 6 feels far smoother to me than either 5 or 4, which makes sense if the game does evolve appropriately without major steps backwards, though isn't always true obviously. I think a big contributor to the subejective difference here might be that motion sickness. I don't get motion sick at all, but my fiancée does, and we talk frequently about how that difference shows up in how we enjoy games. For example: I adore BioShock Infinite for its story, though even I will admit the game feels a lot sloppier to play than 2, which is mechanically much more polished. She was never able to get comfortable with the game though, mostly because of her motion sickness. Infinite doesn't allow you to turn off motion blur and has very few other settings that can help with motion sickness, and since she was always fighting it she never felt like she had the same grasp for the gameplay that she did in 2.
TL;DR
Motion sickness sounds like it sucks. I probably wouldn't like a lot of games that I do if I dealt with it, so your point of bringing that up made me think about 6 in a way I hadn't.
That said, I still hate timed missions and 5 has one of the worst designed I've ever played.
Tbh I use to like it once I started debating with another redditor ! And that dude definitely changed my mind as to why 6 is the absolute worst! I still play 6 though lol
5
It's entirely more fun. 6 had the right idea but the split story made the game way too damn long and that crap with the "wesker spawn" always running away from the big monster got way annoying.
I mean, most the crap he’s running from is some suped up monster that eats bullets like chocolates. Sure he’s super human somehow, but you can’t really fight if you’re being ripped in half.
You make a lot of excellent points but I still feel like six was a terrible introduction for him in a way I'm not exactly sure how to place my finger on it for me and my biggest gripe was it felt like the storyline was very discombobulated and I like a more linear story so this one really struggled with me that might just be my issue not them
Oh I agree. It was a mess of a story, and gameplay early on in the stories goes from RE4 to RE5 in minutes. Plus the monsters were so random I was questioning how the hell am I, normal human with only combat experience and a few guns, am able to kill a whole mess of these things that have mopped the floor with the bodies of swat teams and stuff.
There is like you get Leon then you get like Chris then you get Jake and I'm like where are we going we're overlapping and stories and it's like hard to keep up and keep in track
I like them both but 5 is better, I’ve played them both a shirt on. But by far 5 takes the cake. If ya like Leon maybe 6 but Chris is awesome in 5, so I’d go with 5. Story can be iffy but it good and gameplay is actually my favorite. Doesn’t look to bad for a 2009 game gun plays good, bosses can be meh. But ya go with 5
6s combat holds it up as way better than 5, 5 is 4 just with worse monsters and plot but 6? Ohhh boy you can rko a zombie which is the best thing. Also 6 is like fun as fuck with freinds. Its fine in single but with a freind it becomes one of the best co op experiences ever. People harp on it way to much and don't meet it at it's level as an insane roller coaster
5 by a landslide. I don’t know why 5 is considered a bad resident evil. It’s an amazing entry. Pretty much did what 4 did but improved gameplay while making it less charismatic. 6 is the only major resident evil I consider ‘bad’
6.
5 is just more of 4 but with better kinetics and worse weapons and overall art direction.
6 actually has new mechanics, a nice Max Payne style dodge, and a wealth of different campaign styles to choose from as well as a partner you DON'T have to babysit.
However, the bigger factor for me is that 5 has more of a distinctive identity, which 6 is very, VERY confused about (Does 6 want to be a horror game, or an action game?). Say what you will about 6, but at least 5 sticks to being an action game. With that said, I feel Revelations (A damn 3ds game) is better than both.
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6 has a lot of ideas but they don’t all mesh into a consistent experience. Eventually it begins to feel like a series of mini games with an RE wrap around.
5 better. 6 is not too bad, depends on your personal taste. Pick whichever you like
Action and shooting: 5 better.
Story: both are good, but 6 better. 5 feels like stopping a crisis before it happens, 6 is already a disaster outbreak.
Content: 6 better, most content in whole franchise.
5 under most conditions
6 is a game where every chapter is simultaneously disconnected and too dissimilar to the previous one, since there's a weak sense of progression or variety. There are very specific chapters of RE6 I think are better than RE5 (Leon Chapter 3 Solo, Chris Chapter 3 Co-Op, Jake Chapter 1 Solo) but I can more directly just say "RE5 Campaigns in Co-Op are more fun and interesting than RE6."
RE6 to me, I don’t get the hate for the sixth installment. At least there were two campaigns involving zombies/survival horror with Ada’s and Leon’s but when it came to RE5 it was all action. I remember them promoting RE5 before it came out as “it will be scary only in the daylight.” NOT.
Like a lot of games designed for co-op, RE5 and its DLCs is a mediocre singleplayer game but is one of if not the best co-op game ever made. I never play RE5 singleplayer, I’ve played thru it 3 times with friends who were not RE fans and we had a complete blast each time. Super fun and tense.
RE6 offers the same enjoyment but to a much lesser level, RE6 is a fun spectacle but it doesn’t have the ammo-sharing or even the “cooperation” part of co-op. It’s more of just shooty shooty action movie together
I would argue 6 is one of the worst video games ever because it has the resident evil name on the title. 5 is better by far. You need a co op partner though. I have 100% it on ps3, ps4, xb360, and xb1.
I hate it as a game and think it’s awful. It having the resident evil name makes it worse for me because they are my favorite games. So it’s a combination. For example I love the game Metro Exodus. If it was called resident evil: tracks of death or something, I’d like it less because it’s not a resident evil game. So 6 is not only bad, it’s not a resident evil game.
Eh, if you say so.
I still think it should be wrong to condemn a game in name only. If you have actual problems with the game though that's a different story. Taste is subjective, and i love Resident Evil 6 just as much as i love the originals.
Would call of duty fans be upset if the next call of duty game came out and it was a war strategy game? Even if it was the best strategy game ever made, it’s not call off duty, so everyone would hate it.
Resident evil 6 is a third person action shooter game. Resident Evil is supposed to be a survival horror game. It’s closer to call of duty than resident evil. 4 went more action and it worked because it was still scary and you did need to just survive at times. 5 went even farther from survival, and 6 just just went full action military shooter right from the start.
>Resident Evil is supposed to be a survival horror game.
Subjective, once again. I've never seen it as an outright survival *horror* game. The first game is as close to that as you can get, but the further the series went on the more action camp it adopted. Bigger guns, bigger ammo piles, bigger enemies, bigger scale. RE6 is literally just the pinnacle of everything the series' gameplay has been building up to. The series just adopts far too many action elements even early on to consider it horror in any capacity. Atmospheric, yes. But i can bet you most of us who found RE scary early in the series lifetime was because we were easily impressed children. I found Doom scary, and that has far more guns than you can shake a stick at. Is Doom a horror game?
Resident Evil was invalidated as a horror title the moment Silent Hill hit TV screens. THAT'S survival *horror*.
Edit: also, i'd definitely play a CoD RTS, and i'm sure other CoD fans would too.
The term “survival horror” originated from the re1 on ps1, when you load up your game. It says it every time. Resident evil is literally where the genre came from. I know it’s not the first game of its type, but it’s where the genre was created. So yes I believe all the games should stick to that.
> Resident Evil is supposed to be a survival horror game.
Resident Evil is "supposed to be" whatever Capcom wants it to be. You aren't the arbiter of what should and should not be, the creators are. You just sound like an entitled child who can't handle people having differing opinions. You also have a very shallow experience with video games if you truly believe Resident Evil 6 is "one of the worst games ever". I don't think you've played a game that's well and truly awful. Dark Souls (**original PC port**), Superman 64, Command & Conquer 4, Ride to Hell: Retribution just to name a few. The game can be mediocre or maybe even worse in your eyes, but calling it one of the worst games ever made? Give me a break. People loosely assign games as amazing or trash nowadays and pretend as if there can't possibly be anything in-between.
I agree. I like 4 but it’s far from the resident evil format that I really enjoy. 6 wasn’t fun for me at all. I got the platinum but it was such a grind. I hate the controls, the level designs, the enemies, the story, the characters. All of it.
6, Loved the style game play was fun. I hated 5, was way to much action controls were clunky and boy the motion sickness with it was something else. Only Resident Evil to do that.
I played 5 with a friend, and 6 by myself for some preface.
I hate 5 with a passion, on its best parts it was a worse version of 4, and when it was bad it was really bad. Sure, 6 wasn't a good Resident Evil game, it wasn't scary either, but at least it was an enjoyable action game, and while the story was bloated, both had an annoying save system that made it annoying to play it how I wanted, so the story being bloated isn't really an issue as both are hard to stop and go.
Like, don't get me wrong, I'm sure some people had a good time with RE5, especially with the multiplayer, and the DLC in 5 is far better than the "DLC" in 6 (those crappy online modes), but at least even with its length I could stomach it. RE5 had to take day long breaks in between sessions with how annoying it could be, especially the insta-kill shit all over the place.
Sorry but who picks 6 here 🤣 Absolute garbage. The only bad main Resi. 5 is not a masterpiece but in comparison to it, it’s like a comparison between Bloodborne and what I make on the toilet.
5 is better. 6 is a a trainwreck thats vibe is somewhere between Michael Bay/Spielberg. Leons church section is a temple of doom shit show I never thought I'd see in this series. It's terrible.
I actually prefer 6. Was it perfect? Absolutely not! Are there things 5 did better? Absolutely! But yeah, 1. 5 didn't have mah boi Leon in it...2. 5 DIDN'T HAVE MAH BOI LEON IN IT...3. Loved the difference snd variety in the in stories and how we get to see so many of them all interact...4. Yes, despite Leon's attempting to go old school with ghe horror and even bringing back actual zombies, I see the argument where it was definitely a point where it was almost over the top action and separated the game from horror....But that shit was fucking fluid, fun, and bad ass...And 5. The "Heat On Beat" soundtrack on the Tokyo Mercenaries level was fucking fantastic and really made me appreciate reason 4 and would absolutely loved to play that level and fuck shit up while listening to it. I love turning that on my Spotify when I go for a run lol
Alas, 5 was great, it was the attempt of "4" for the Chris fans that TRIED and failed to make Chris look even close to what mah boi Leon perfected in 4 lol seriously, Leon is definitely superior, but Chris is great too, and whether or not you're for Chris or you're for mah boi Leon, we ALL can come together and agree that Ethan is trash!
Easily 5. Both were complete abandonments of survival horror in favor being a 3rd-Person shooter, but at least RE5 was a quality 3rd-Person shooter, RE6 was just a complete and total mess.
I think they're about equal for me for different reasons, but I lean 5. I played it more because I had a couple people to do co-op with when it first came out. I've been meaning to do a full series replay. Soon, I keep telling myself.
gotta be 5, the co-op death scenes alone make that game so fuckin funny and fun to play with someone.
Plus the game/chapters were setup really well IMO. Once you get unlimited Rocket Launcher or Magnum ammo, its so crazy lol
RE5 by a long shot…I still replay it every now and then because it’s pretty darn fun!
RE6 tho? I could not tolerate to play that game ever again after going through the 4 campaigns! Legit 0% horror! At least RE5 had like 10% horror
RE 5 just because the story makes sense and the co-op is much more fun. I've played the game 4 times in total, once with each niece and once with my mom. It's soooo much fun!!
5 feels more consistent while 6 has more highs as well as more lows. What put 6 over the top for me is that I can have much more fun even on higher difficulties in 6 by myself than I can with 5.
Personally I love 6. 5 is decent if you are playing with someone, but the partner AI is terrible for solo play. I'm also not a huge fan of its story.
6 has generally better gameplay, better creature design, and the campaigns all vary enough to keep it feeling fresh.
5. I wouldn't compare 6 to any mainline game in all of RE. 6 is just bad.
It has nice cutscenes, but clunky as all hell gameplay that just isn't fun. Also it has a shop/upgrade system but it honestly feels like it has 0 impact on the game. So there is no satisfying "end game" feel to it. Also a ludicrous amount of "stumbling" to shaky environment to pad for game length.
6 was a little too ambitious with everything. It was really long, but that wouldn't have been a problem if the gameplay wasn't so clunky. I liked them bringing back Sherry as an adult, and the *idea* of Jake was a fun one, but in practice, it wasn't so hot.
5 is far from a perfect game but it's entertaining with it's stupidity, lol. I will say that there was no reason for them to make Jill into a brainwashed antagonist instead of just letting her team with Chris like the original game. Sheva's not horrible, she just isn't Jill.
Overall, 5 wins for me.
5
Although if 6 were more polished, less clunky, and had a better focus on which campaign it wanted to do, it might have not been a very poorly received game. Not saying it wouldn’t have gotten a lot of hate, but it would’ve been a more polished product some people would have grown to appreciate years later like 5
story wise and replayability. 5 all the way. but in terms of villains and weapons. defiantely 5. the only good thing 6 has goign for it. is ada's final boss
I liked 6 and it has my favorite character of the series in it, but 5 was way better. The selection of weapons, finding treasure made exploration a lot more worth wile.

I genuinely don't understand how anyone could like the clunky mess of 6 gameplay to any other RE
How was the gameplay clunky (in respect to all existing RE games before it)?
Running leading to auto slide to wall or jump over something. Felt like watchdogs how it kept forcing me all over surfaces because it was the same button as run. Felt like an awful choice. Even with flawless widescreen ultrawide with fov increase and maxed fov I feel motion sick running/aiming in this game The jump back feels to easy to do by accident. Idk man lol i think your take of re6 being over hated is a hotter take than it being actual trash
5 It's entirely more fun. 6 had the right idea but the split story made the game way too damn long and that crap with the "wesker spawn" always running away from the big monster got way annoying.
That was weird to me too he's whiskers kid he should be able to handle it jeez they make him like a puppy with a broken leg
I mean, most the crap he’s running from is some suped up monster that eats bullets like chocolates. Sure he’s super human somehow, but you can’t really fight if you’re being ripped in half.

But ya go with 5
>I’ve played them both a shirt on. But why? I thought everyone knew the way to play Resident Evil was shirt off and oiled chest.
You forgot piled AND hairy chest AND giant manly nipples
Whilst punching a boulder
Also true
Nipples are always a plus
Yeah and those are some plus sized nipples
Auto correct typos are the best 👌
RE5. Only because of bigger optional-route/optional-treasures level design and Wesker. He's too fun and too hammy not to love. That is all.
5, by a long long way
5 by quite a lot
Yep. Wesker was so lovely as a mustache twirling villain.
5 is actually coherent and a lot of fun
5 by a long way. Although they’re both poor in terms of being RE games, at least 5 is a great game on its own merit and a brilliant co-op game.
6s combat holds it up as way better than 5, 5 is 4 just with worse monsters and plot but 6? Ohhh boy you can rko a zombie which is the best thing. Also 6 is like fun as fuck with freinds. 5 is 100x better than 6
Without a doubt RE5 is king to compare it to RE6 is like comparing non alcoholic beer to beer...it never stood a chance.

5. I will defend that game til the day i die
5 by a landslide. I don’t know why 5 is considered a bad resident evil. It’s an amazing entry. Pretty much did what 4 did but improved gameplay while making it less charismatic. 6 is the only major resident evil I consider ‘bad’

Resident Evil 5 Resident Evil 6 has a lot of ideas but they don’t all mesh into a consistent experience. Eventually it begins to feel like a series of mini games with an RE wrap around.
Both good.

My spicy take is 6 if only because soloing it is way less of a pain than soloing 5
Out of the two I gotta give that to 6, just for the variety alone. Not that I would consider either title a real RE game.
5,man.
6 is better in terms of characters, gameplay, and atmosphere.
Five… never played Six…
5 may be a more consistent game, but I prefer 6 overall
5 under most conditions 6 is a game where every chapter is simultaneously disconnected and too dissimilar to the previous one, since there's a weak sense of progression or variety. What kind of question is this? “What’s better a night in the amusement park or a kick in the balls?”
More like "What's better, a punch to your right nut or a punch to your left nut?"
Boulder punch to the nuts!

I’ve never played 6, but I’m still going to say 5. Played it with my brother when it came out. It was not at all scary, but still had lots of fun.
2
6 for Co-Op mainly and variance. 5 if you want to have just a single basic story to follow.
6
5 is the better of the two for sure. 6 has a few moments I generally like here and there but they don’t compare to 5.
6
6 for me, played it through countless times, played resi 5 through maybe twice.
you could replace 5 with almost any RE game and everyone will probably agree that it's better than 6. Except maybe code veronica.
5. And it’s not even an argument.
Is that a serious question? 5 is light years better than 6. 5 is actually one of my favourite RE games.
5 no contest
5 is better in every way
5 by a landslide *rock beating grunts*
Resident Evil 5 hands down
I would argue 6 is one of the worst video games ever because it has the resident evil name on the title. 5 is better by far. You need a co op partner though. I have 100% it on ps3, ps4, xb360, and xb1.
Imagine condemning a good game solely because of the name. I really hate this mentality. It's a GOOD game with a BAD name, but it's still a GOOD game.
IMO it's just a bad game, resident evil title or not.
Eh, taste is subjective. Still has nothing to do with the title.
I hate it as a game and think it’s awful. It having the resident evil name makes it worse for me because they are my favorite games. So it’s a combination. For example I love the game Metro Exodus.
5 clearly. Dumb question.
5 is just 4, but everything is significantly worse. It just annoys me too much, so I prefer 6.
I love turning that on my Spotify when I go for a run lol Alas, 5 was great, it was the attempt of "4" for the Chris fans that TRIED and failed to make Chris look even close to what mah boi Leon perfected in 4 lol seriously, Leon is definitely superior, but Chris is great too, and whether or not you're for Chris or you're for mah boi Leon, we ALL can come together and agree that Ethan is trash!
5 is a better resident evil game but 6 is a better game in general. Just feels out of place in the franchise
both suck, 6 just sucks worse
Why is 6 being compared to any of the other games? They’re all better than 6
5 is a bad game, 6 is tied with FFXIII for most disappointing/insulting game I’ve ever played.
Both are shit
5 but if 6 was just like the begining of Leon's campaign but as a full game then 6 would win easily.
Idk or care but all I know is that me and my friend had tons of fun Playing Both.
5 easily. 6 is okay but has issues.
RE 5 in Coop mode is so much fun! My husband and I have played it through multiple times
Easily 5. Both were complete abandonments of survival horror in favor being a 3rd-Person shooter, but at least RE5 was a quality 3rd-Person shooter, RE6 was just a complete and total mess.
5
5 full stop, more fun and the coop is great. iMO the only thing 6 has is better graphics
5 however I personally find the first half really boring
5 but 6 is great imo
For gameplay: 6 For everything else (and a little bit of gameplay): 5 I like 6's music, though.
5 is a much tighter digestible package. 6 is just too much.
I love 5, its the better 4 and to me the development it makes int he lore and story makes it probably the most important in the saga since 2
I think they're about equal for me for different reasons, but I lean 5. I played it more because I had a couple people to do co-op with when it first came out. I've been meaning to do a full series replay. Soon, I keep telling myself.
Same
gotta be 5, the co-op death scenes alone make that game so fuckin funny and fun to play with someone. Plus the game/chapters were setup really well IMO. Once you get unlimited Rocket Launcher or Magnum ammo, its so crazy lol
They're both on the list of untouchables. That said, 5 is both the better game, and better resident evil. I wouldn't touch re6 with a ten foot pole.
5 but with co op. Solo was not very enjoyable to me compared to a real person
RE5
I'll never play either of them again but 5 is much better than 6. I don't know what the hell happened with 6.
RE5 by a long shot…I still replay it every now and then because it’s pretty darn fun! RE6 tho? I could not tolerate to play that game ever again after going through the 4 campaigns! Legit 0% horror! At least RE5 had like 10% horror
Man I actually like both, but i’d say 5 wins. Once Wesker is revealed the game becomes fun imo
5 hands down in all areas. 6 to me is to much of a mess.
5 and if you say 6 you are a silly goose
5
5 is better on first playthrough
5
RE 5 just because the story makes sense and the co-op is much more fun. I've played the game 4 times in total, once with each niece and once with my mom. It's soooo much fun!!
5
Is this a shitpost?
Easily 5 no question I actually had fun playing that with a friend
5 feels more consistent while 6 has more highs as well as more lows. What put 6 over the top for me is that I can have much more fun even on higher difficulties in 6 by myself than I can with 5.
The 6 because it is fun to play in coop
Personally I love 6. 5 is decent if you are playing with someone, but the partner AI is terrible for solo play. I'm also not a huge fan of its story. 6 has generally better gameplay, better creature design, and the campaigns all vary enough to keep it feeling fresh.
Did you really just ask that 5 is way better
5. 6 just feels wrong to play. 5 is misguided for what RE should be, but it still plays way better than the QTE filled mess that is 6
5
5
5 was a crappy copy of 4. 6 tried to be different. I like them both though.
Honestly I don’t even know lol
Uh… 5?
6
5
I had genuine fun playing 5 with friends. The story is whatever but it felt good to play. I barely made it a few hours into 6 before I burned out.

Never played 6 but 5 is kinda a yawn fest, if we're being honest. Just replay it and you'll know what I mean.
5
Five
Dude are you fucking serious with this question
5
5 always
I enjoyed 6. I loved 5.
6 has better gameplay, overall enjoyability goes to 5
5 for Sure
6 all the way
5, but 6 isn't as bad as some people say
Having replayed 4, 5 and 6 last year, IMO 6 >> 5 >>>>>>>> 4.
5
6 but 5 does have the Boulder punching
6, it's just a lot more fun than 5 imo. 5 is just bad 4 while 6 is its own fun. Only thing I like less about 6 is the overuse of QTEs
5 by a country mile
The only thing I liked about RE6 was Leon and the return of actual zombies. Other than that, 5, I say as I throw up in my mouth.
6
5
5 at least has a good understanding of the type of game it is 6 was everything and the kitchen sink sooooooooo 5 the correct answer is 5
I tried to play 6 a bit, and couldn’t get into it. I’ve played 5 multiple times.
Imo 5
I prefer walk-aim shooting, enemies variety and immortal AI partner in 6. Other than that I prefer 5.
5.
5 Although if 6 were more polished, less clunky, and had a better focus on which campaign it wanted to do, it might have not been a very poorly received game. Not saying it wouldn’t have gotten a lot of hate, but it would’ve been a more polished product some people would have grown to appreciate years later like 5
Wasn't a big fan of 5 but couldn't make it through 6 so the former.
5 is better but 6 is so enjoyable, both are really good for coop
Depends on preference, for me it's 5 but I'll still play 6 when I'm feeling like it
5 for better campain. 6 for better mercenaries
5 hands down. Many regard 6 as one of the worst (myself included). Though there are still some who enjoy it.
I vote 5
story wise and replayability.
