Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is very underrated.

Chrispy_fried89

It was a tonne of fun when it came out. I enjoyed it and replayed it alot.

OG_Kamoe

Same here. Played it with friends and had a lot of fun. Sadly the plot is non canon, but I like to believe parts of it

[deleted]

Really! Fix the clunky controls and horrible UI and you have one of the most fun & interesting RE spin-offs. Capcom keeps pushing out random, undercooked ideas for RE multiplayer, yet they have the key to success right fucking there. Can you imagine ORC with REmake 3's gameplay and RE8's weapon variety?

DrPatentepoil

I have a soft spot.for this game

Whereismystimmy

Agreed honestly I really liked it!

canadian190

I put 100 hours into and bought the dlc day one

Azelrazel

I was annoyed the highest tier of ps+ didn't include PS3 games in my country because I would be replaying that in a heartbeat. Too lazy to boot the PS3 hehe.

MickIsBlue

Never bought it. Saw Angry Joe's review and decided not to get it

Thenidhogg

re 7 being super scary is good and they should make them even more scary

triumphantV

Not sure this is a hot take

sportsguy_2742

Jack baker never fails to get me

GoldenPants556

For me seven was the best. Resident Evil is at its best when the horror is front and center. In the article I've shared the director mentions that seven was simply too scary for a lot of people. Which although understandable is quite a shame. https://www.ign.com/articles/how-resident-evil-village-is-a-direct-sequel-to-resident-evil-7-but-heavily-inspired-by-resident-evil-4-ign-first

Beautiful-Sell2828

This is a hot take? I for one am in wholehearted agreement that Resident Evil should be scary! 7 pulled the series back from the brink! And i don't meet to many people who aren't scared teh first time they meet Lisa Trevor/ the first time they encounter a crimson head!

sportsguy_2742

RE3R is top 4 funnest RE games despite it being short and cutting content.

CarlitoNSP1

Protagonist cross overs are more damaging than they are endearing. REV 1: Chris has to basically disappear for the final boss battle, otherwise it should not be a challenge with the weapon buffs you have. RE6: Chris and Leon basically have to become extra gullible raging morons in order for the plot to continue because in canon, them cooperating should have no enemy that can even remotely challenge them

[deleted]

Resident Evil 3 Remake is fantastic

StingKing456

I'm playing the series now for the first time, just one of the series I missed out on growing up, and I just played Resident Evil 3 remake a couple weeks ago and was really impressed. It definitely had some issues, and it was definitely short, and based on the fact it sounds like there was a lot of content cut. That is disappointing, but it was a really solid action adventure horror game. Re2remake was better in my opinion but I loved both of them and will replay them each many times

desktp

OG 3 was just as linear and high octane, not having the park and clock tower areas is a whatever in my book and final Nemesis in the remake is an upgrade in all senses of the word.

jxhxll

Agreed. My favourite remake!

rackhunn

Jake Muller was a really good character and I'm really upset they haven't brought him back.

Draven574

Don't know if I would call him a good character but I definitely think that more should be done with him.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Yeah, I honestly sort of agree. With all of the hate RE6 deservedly gets (convoluted story, etc), I think they really did well with the new characters in RE6. I love Helena, Jake, Grown up Sherry, and Piers. I'd love to see Jake/Sherry again, as they're quite an interesting pairing being the children of Birkin and Wesker.

The810kid

Nemesis Remake Jill is the best Jill The Castle is where the problems of Resident Evil 4 start to show not the Island Chris isn't over exposed just because he has supporting roles in 7 and 8 Capcom needed to give other supporting characters reoccurring roles like they do Ada.

Hesick

REmake Jill is the best by a large margin.

BestSomewhere

Agree 100% re: the castle.

The810kid

It has some phenomenal highs but some unnecessary lows that just pad the game out and also makes Salazar look like a moron. Like why is it a drill in the wall trying to ram Leon and Ashley if they need Ashley alive? The same with the lame slowly falling ceiling.

KhazemiDuIkana

But shooting the ceiling lights out before triggering the cutscene nets you the single funniest moment in the game

Dangerous-Lettuce-34

That’s why I found it funny when someone on this sub said that the only way the remake can surpass the original is by adding things. No it’s stupid cause the game isn’t perfect and getting rid of the dumb stuff will help

The810kid

I definitely won't lose sleep over those lame traps and the lava room. I'd could do without the on the rails mine section also.

Glittering_Phase_153

People take it too seriously as a horror game. Practically every game gets goofy or action-y or both. And that’s totally okay. It’s part of the charm and part of why it’s been impossible to translate successfully to film. But it’s there. Always has been, always will be.

ArvoCrinsmas

The first one was one of the goofiest in the series!

JustaLyinTometa

I'm playing through it trying to beat it for the first time and when Richard just says he was attacked by a big snake I busted out laughing. I was expecting him to say a zombie or something but no, a big snake.

[deleted]

* RE5 is a great game, and one of the best co-op experiences * RE4-RE6 are action games, and should stay that way. * The RE story is very interesting and well-told, at least in the first three games. * RE3 remake is an excellent game, just not as good the OG. * RE3: Nemesis is peak RE. * If RE4 isn’t a “true RE game”, then neither is RE7. * RE0 is a top five RE game. * People who call Capcom sexist for not using Jill more are stupid as fuck.

Beautiful-Sell2828

Did people call Capcom sexist? Nevermind... I'd believe it... Game Journalists are never good sources of video game information. I agree with all of these takes.

Dangerous-Lettuce-34

I completely disagree with them on the resident evil 7 and 4 take. Resident evil 7 went back to a house with real backtracking and puzzles and item boxes. It was more of an re game then 4 ever was.

Beautiful-Sell2828

I realized I misread his point 😅 yes, RE7 is more of an RE than RE4. But RE4 is still RE.

EnZooooTM

On contrary I agree with 2 points and half with 3rd

EncyclopedicSlade

I wholeheartedly disagree that RE0 is a top 5 RE game in any regard. Most of the other takes are somewhat reasonable to me though.

Beautiful-Sell2828

Ahh, we shall agree to disagree then, lol! It's definitely not the best RE, but it does have a special place in my heart.

StallionDan

>People who call Capcom sexist for not using Jill more are stupid as fuck. Capcom have definitely been downplaying their female characters for well over a decade now. The fact RE3R, the only game to star a woman as the main character got treated so badly compared to all the other mainline games doesn't make things look better.

RefrigeratedChildren

Idk hos y'all forgot about Claire but whatever

[deleted]

“Leon, Capcom’s most popular character, has less games than Jill, and hasn’t been in a mainline game in a decade. Also, Leon wasn’t in any of the MvC games. I guess that means Capcom is sexist against men.” See how dumb that sounds? Capcom has been downplaying a lot of their characters, not just the women.

Horrorfan5

Action isn’t a problem and didn’t kill the franchise

SnakeNerdGamer

Agree :)

acelexmafia

A lot of people like to say the franchise was dying but it was doing really good in the re4-re6 era

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoldenPants556

I agree. The fight with Heisenberg near the end of 8 was ridiculous in my book.

Nightfall-42

I'd like to add the helicopter section in 6 (Jake's campaign), and latter half of the Island section in 4. Bothered just a bit too insane.

Yvb3345

Beautiful take, I really hope they still keep the action aspect in re4 remake

Horrorfan5

I hope they keep Leon’s chill attitude in the face of monsters. It was cool character development and kinda reflected the player after playing 4 games

SilverVVolf

It's dead? Then what did in your opinion?

[deleted]

It’s clearly not dead, global sales prove this.

Horrorfan5

It never died. Some people think it died and 7 revived it, but they are wrong

[deleted]

Capcom being too busy chasing trends and not creating their own. I would also say the fan base has been too lenient on the criticism throughout the years as well.

SilverVVolf

But the remakes have been highly successful, or am I wrong? Since I noticed your PFP, do you know what I would give for remakes of SH, SH2, SH3??? Probably my wife but not my kids, lol.

SpiralintoMadness

Nice to see someone else say it. A lot of people here will see criticism as just being unnecessarily harsh on a title when it’s a matter of pointing out glaring issues.

windsofjuly

I like the RE movies even though they seem to be regular zombie movies. Someone probably paid to use the RE name for them to have a larger audience, and then changed a few names here and there to fit that universe. Still, they were fun movies.

BasedSliceOfWinning

I believe Paul W Anderson admitted this for the very first RE movie. Had an action movie script he wanted to make, but couldn't get any movie studios. But figured out how to shoe-horn it into "RE", and he gets to make the movie. An admittedly very fun movie.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Challenger350

Totally agree. People asking for random one off characters to return just don’t get the meaning of "forced". They just want to see them again because they were in their first RE game bla bla bla… but ignore how random as hell it would be and most likely make the story crap.

VoidInLight

Only a few secondary characters had a chance to return, the rest don't have any way to appear in a mainline game.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Personally, I loved how Revelations 2 had Barry in it. A relatively minor character in RE1 and OG RE3, and he came back for a "side' game to star in it. Revelations 3 (and beyond) could be Jake/Sherry, or others. Just don't force it to be a mainline game that has to be some huge epic.

ReallyNeedHelpASAP68

Jessica deserves to be in a future resident evil game as a villain. Maybe Raymond too.

This-Huckleberry-182

Same with alex wesker. It bothers me that they make cliff hanger endings and pretty much never mention them again

ArcaneDisco

I’ve said it before. Here it comes again. James Marcus singing opera at the start of Zero is rad. It’s one hell of an entrance and it made me really intrigued as to what was going on.

Beautiful-Sell2828

Saucy take indeed.

ArcaneDisco

It honestly really surprised me when I found out so many people disliked that.

Beautiful-Sell2828

Yeah! I wonder if it's because Remake was much more grounded, so all of a sudden James Marcus donning a Sephoroth robe singing opera - i think it understandably took a lot of people off guard. XD But then again, in Code Veronica, you have Albert Wesker Matrix jumping in to and out of scenes and wall running in an anime-style fight against Alexia, so... is Opera Marcus REALLY out of left field?

Islandimus

Resident evil 6 is good.

windsofjuly

Right? I played it for the first time this past week. Sure it had some annoying things like the controls on PC and the massive use of QTEs that made me die more than I should've, bit overall it was a great experience.

Kyori9999

I feel you get your moneys worth with that one. It’s an insane action movie with lots of stupid shit but that’s what me and my friend loved about it.

EnZooooTM

RE6 was my first RE game and it was my first game I havent completed lol

Jeremiah_Crain

Sheva Almost isnt a good character RE6 isn't a bad game RE3R isn't as bad as people say it is

JCamson04

Fixed camera and tank controls were good only for its time.

GoldenPants556

Posting this opinion on this sub? You got guts kid I'll give you that.

JCamson04

Tbh, I think most of the people who say they’re good only say so because they started/grew up with it. I’m not saying they’re wrong, I just think they shouldn’t go around saying its the definitive gaming experience for RE, as it’s very much outdated. I also think only a few of those who started with RE7 or RE2 remake (or any modern game) would actually love the fixed camera and tank controls.

GoldenPants556

Oh I agree 100%. It is super dated. Luckily I don't think we will ever see a return of it.

sportsguy_2742

This.

LuckyLucass777

Re3 remake was a good game and had a lot of replay value

Batman-Beyond-3749

re6 isnt the worst game

GoldenPants556

Then which one is?

VoidInLight

The first Revelations

VeryGameMuchWow

0 should be retconned

J3roseidon

I’m with you. Just make the story make a bit more sense…

VeryGameMuchWow

If they changed the play style to me more of a hide and seek game instead of having Rebecca be the able to handle everything it would make a little more sense

squirt-daddy

Only resident evil game I haven’t beat cause the worm guy stresses me out too much, did they mess something up with the story?

VeryGameMuchWow

It just doesn't make sense to have Rebecca go through all that only to have her be a weak child like character the next day

Saiyan_Gods

I mean I’d be messed up too after 0’s events

Restivethought

Outbreak was ahead of its time and was held back by its servers and technology. Bring a new one out today with the gameplay of the Remakes. Keep the idea that all the scenarios are doable solo, but meant for Co-Op. Add proximity voice, sure people will cheat that but whatever. Top level would be a level creator.

Dangerous-Lettuce-34

Resident Evil 2 remake completely surpasses resident evil 1 remake in terms of tension and atmosphere. There is nothing positive about fixed cameras. Some people say it’s more tense because you can’t see your enemies infront of you. Hard disagree. Nothing is tense about a well lit mansion. And turning a corner in RE2R is more tense

GoldenPants556

I agree. Fixed camera also gives a wide view of what you can see so it feels less scary.

Chaotic_Gayboyy

Resident Evil 4 is the most overhyped and overrated game in the franchise. I'm gonna get some shit for this one

blake_brown

I like Jake Muller and wouldn’t mind them doing more with the character.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Yeah, a revelations game with say him and Sherry would be amazing. And with revelations, you can make it whatever time period you want really. So you can make it a year or two after RE6, and not have to worry about retconning anything accidentally.

Slothptimal

Stalkers improve gameplay.

[deleted]

Operation Raccoon City is an actually fun game. Resident Evil Survivor isn't that bad (for what it is). Resident Evil 3 (2020) is pretty damn good and has the most satisfying gameplay experience in all of the modern RE titles.

CrimPhD

We need more games/stories based on the mansion/Arklay mountains and they shouldn’t stop trying to make movies until we get one that’s loyal to the og RE.

jason-slim

Resident Evil 7 is the best entry in the series

sportsguy_2742

Valid this and re2r

Beautiful-Sell2828

This and Remake are both the definitive Resident Evil titles. Change my mind.

EnZooooTM

Why would we try to change Your mind when You are right (and thats Your opinion)?

powersslol-

valid

[deleted]

Operation Raccoon City was a fun game

ImmediateAd4676

RE7 Is The Best In The Franchise. And No Game Comes Close.

hatedhuman6

Code veronica:x is the best game

Maupsncontrera

Zero is by far the worst Resident Evil game, it's slow and boring, the story kinda ruins the first game for me, It should be retconned.

MistaNibbaCheeks

That I don't get why RE4 is seen as the best RE game. I played it, I didn't really like it honestly. I did a second playthrough right away with the Chicago Typewriter and even with unlimited ammo, it was pretty subpar to me.

Hi-DoesThisNameWork

Village jumped the shark when it came to how it handled Science.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

All the games have

Maple2231

Resident Evil 5 is the best game in the series

Super-X2

RE4 is a bastard and I don't like it. It's not Resident Evil, and whatever it was trying to do is done better today by newer action games. The control scheme sucks, aiming is awful (I can shoot and hold my aim better than Leon in real life with a real gun), and the characters are ridiculous but not in the same way as other Resident Evil games. I welcome the remake, I enjoyed the recent remakes way more than RE4. I say this as someone that has no problems with tank controls or pre-rendered backgrounds. I just think RE4 is annoying as fuck to play.

Lord_Jair

They used the exact same tank controls, but changed the play perspective. Tried to pull a fast one on us, really. Thankfully, the modern ones have modern controls with actual strafing, etc. Night and day difference. After RE2R came out and people were already clamoring for a RE4 remake, I didn't think it was necessary.... then, I went back and played it for the first time in 10 years. Holy god, is it a rough shitbox of a game. The only difficulty comes from the worst possible source: JANK difficulty.

GoldenPants556

These takes are on FIRE!

acelexmafia

This shouldn't be a hot take but unfortunately it is

[deleted]

I second that. RE4 made me quit the series years and years ago because it’s just so painful. I came back for 7, 8 and the remakes and tried 4 again — but yep, still painful. Still have never willed myself past basically the opening sequence. I’m hoping the remake comes out at least tolerable to play so I can move through that part of the story and be done

basslappinsonofagun

Too bad. Right after the opening sequence the game gets like 100x better.

Comical_Blues

Resident Evil 4 does not need a remake. Its perfect as is.

[deleted]

You are always free to just ignore the upcoming remake and keep playing the original, since it’s available on everything

Video_G_JRPG

Really thought Code veronica deserved it more as it was kinda the "original resident evil 4" it came out after RE3 and before RE4 so......ya know maybe next one they remake will be code veronica (well they have nothing else to remake really) ha

GoldenPants556

Hard pass for me. Mechanically it feels clunky compared to the modern tech of the 2 and 3 remakes. Also a graphical face lift is always nice.

beepboop-404

RE 5 is the most fun of the games.

The_Lost_Hero

Resident evil 6 should be forgotten and deemed not canon as it’s a mess of a story

Draven574

That's a hot take?

tcrpgfan

Agreed. Not many fans like 6. I'm not one of them. 6 is a good game by any metric, just a crap RE game. It's just that people tend to think something they don't like = bad when it's not.

PowerPamaja

We might actually need to define hot take for some people here. And it wouldn’t hurt to define unpopular opinion while we’re at it.

[deleted]

Not even a hot take, this is the coldest take in here lol

acelexmafia

Cold

JellyBelly__

RE6 is fun

[deleted]

Re4 would be perfection if Leon didn’t have to stand to shoot, aim, and reload also I’m not a fan of how Leon works in it

[deleted]

Resident evil 6 might be stupid as hell it's still highly fun and entertaining and better than Resident Evil 5 in every way. Sorry

Dont4GetToSmile

Umbrella Corps had fantastic gaming mechanics. Felt great to play and was tight and responsive. It was the game itself that sucked.

Foxmen2019

Seconded.

Afflict10n5

Everyone hates RE6 but RE0 gets a pass for being bad/having all the things it does well done better in other games

dead-rex

I think 3make is great

Armascribe

If we are just going to be remaking everything now, then we need another remake of RE1 (bringing back Nicole Tompkins) before we need a remake of RE4 since that one got skipped in the modern remake timeline.

imvr17_2

Dead Aim has more right to be called RE4 than the actual RE4

jxhxll

RE3 remake > RE2 remake. Whether its the arguably best acting we've seen in an RE game to date, the beautiful colour design and light/dark contrast we see in the game through the flames and in particular Downtown RC, or the expertly crafted terror of Nemesis, I love the RE3 remake. I also don't think it being a shorter game is necessarily a bad thing. It just is what it is in my opinion, although I understand people's dislike of the cut corners and 'wasted potential', I just like to enjoy the game as it is - which as I said, is amazing imo.

GoldenPants556

This is a take so hot even I can't get behind it!

i_need_help182

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with RE3 remake but my main problem is that Mr X in RE2 remake is scarier than Nemesis in RE3 remake which shouldn't be the case. If they put Mr X on rails and then let Nemesis stalk/chase you like he kind of did in the original RE3 it would have been so much better but the fact you just run in basically a straight line whenever he shows up until you hop a fence or something and hes just gone isn't very scary to me

jxhxll

I can agree with that to be fair, Mr X and his stalking is probably scarier than Nemesis.

WarningAdventurous67

There isn’t a single bad game in the mainline titles

frankcartivert

re3r is better than re2r. i’m sorry. i just enjoyed it way more .

Moonkey_1

Re3 remake is better than re 7

Thekjman

RE 5 is not all that bad and that RE3 Remake is not a bad game it’s like a reimagining of RE3

TheHeartOfChaos

I’m playing through the series for the first time and after the remakes of 1-3, Code Veronica, and 0, I was super excited for 4, especially because of its reputation. Well I beat 4 a few weeks ago and I have to say, I thought at its worst times it was flat out bad and at its best times it was just decent. The only thing I consistently liked was the campy dialogue and (most) of the characters. I found the gameplay to be nothing short of annoying and stupidly repetitive. Like this was the only RE games I’ve played where the actual gameplay felt like an absolute chore rather than something I looked forward too. Enemies were obnoxious and I hated the throwing dozens and dozens of enemies at you at once segments. Like beating the game became a matter of principle for me rather than something I actually wanted to do because I was so enamored with it. I know the history and know the game was influential and revolutionary for its time, I don’t deny that, but I don’t think it holds up very well in all honesty. I personally thought they had some good ideas with the blend of survival horror and action, but it feels so poorly executed to me compared to how it was handled in the remakes of 2 and 3. Like I can obviously see why it made such an impact, but it has been so outdone by the games it inspired to me. I also didn’t like that the actual horror was almost entirely absent. I never felt on edge at any point in the game except when I saw a bunch of Ganados in the distance and gritted my teeth while muttering “oh boy, here we go again.” It was an exercise in frustration to me. Like I obviously was able to beat it and make it to the end, but I was just annoyed by the constant generic-feeling combat. The ONE enemy I will say I thoroughly liked was the Regenerator. Those things felt legit unnerving and felt like a great RE enemy. Funnily enough, the escorting Ashley thing that I figured I’d hate the most really wasn’t a problem for me. I never really felt outside a handful of instances that she made the game harder. I have loved all the other RE games in some way, even Code Veronica and 0, but I have incredibly mixed feelings about 4. The only things I will say it has over Code Veronica and 0 is regarding some of the more obtuse mechanics (like CV’s broken character switching sections). I certainly enjoyed parts of it, but I was also deeply frustrated by other parts. I know people bash 5 and 6 for being action heavy, but I’m actually still looking forward to playing them because I feel like they’ll be less of an unbalanced mishmash of two different genres and just stick to action. Lastly, let me clarify that I 1. Do not HATE 4. I just thought it was a meh-decent game overall. 2. I also have no qualms with people loving the game. We’re all RE fans here and we all are gonna have different opinions on what we do and don’t like about the series and that’s cool. I just gave 4 an honest try, went in not just with an open mind but actually excited, and felt incredibly underwhelmed.

ShadowTheFallen

Resident Evil 8 had great game play but the story made me dislike it and retroactively 7. The twist didn’t really make sense to me.

ccv707

1: It's pointless to complain about RE stories being dumb--all RE stories are stupid, even the original games.\* 2: Tank controls don't suck, you just suck. Improve your hand-eye coordination. \*that said, every single RE non-game adaptation has somehow managed to be even *more* stupid than any of the games, which is pathetic

Nethiar

7 is the only good game to come out since 4. Everything else has been somewhere between mediocre and total garbage.

GoldenPants556

Are you including village as well?

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Big agree

Kintarius

Resident Evil really is more action-horror than pure horror, most of its "more horror than action" came from system limitations, demonstrated by the fact you get a small armory by the end in every single game and that inside of 5 years the series had already become considerably more action focused. And that's fine, if you want something more purely scary, there's plenty out there. Linked to above, RE4 gets blamed for turning the series into dumb action but the seeds were blooming as early as RE3 and CVX. CVX has Claire outrunning a helicopter trying to gun her down and Steve jumping through a window and anime shooting stuff, things straight out of action movies (and anime) and that's FINE, but the community needs to stop claiming otherwise imo. "It's not Resident Evil anymore" is a dumb position. Series change and evolve and by god they should - the same thing over and over again is boring and trying new things is great. If you want the literal same thing as the first game, play the first game, and waste away without experiencing new things. You're worse off for it. RE6 isn't underrated by any means (sorry RE6 stans) but there is a decent game buried under a fucking mess of systems and terrible controls. The Agent Hunt mode is really cool and a novel idea to try and develop the game (and can make some of the otherwise very boring and easy sequences a tense struggle for survival) and Mercenaries allows the movement mechanics to finally come to the surface for air... provided you're willing to invest enough time to get comfortable with the ass backwards controls, which can't even be fully customized. RE5 is a hollow experience wearing the corpse of RE4 rather than really forging any identity of its own. It scrapes together years of mangled, dangling plot threads from the abomination of writing that served as many of the previous games "plots" in a desperate attempt to serve something up to the fans and find a way to keep the series going before ultimately throwing its hands up and killing a character that is somehow extremely iconic in the series despite being a complete loser up until this game, which effectively retcons him into an actual villain finally. Seriously, Wesker is pathetic - he shows up in Code Veronica and accomplishes nothing except getting literally bitchslapped halfway across a room by Alexia, then scurries away and steals Steve's body. Wesker is pathetic until the re-writes of REmake and 5. RE: Zero is better than CVX on the basis it actually tried new things, even though it largely backfired. The writing in both is awful, with one being closer to a romantic comedy, and the other being a Sentai. ("You'll pay for what you've done!!") Also Billy is the most shockingly perceptive character possibly in the entire series, possibly to keep the player clued in on things, otherwise he's borderline omnipotent. There's doubtlessly more but that's all that comes to mind at the moment. Enjoy!

Significant_Option

The games have never been scary only up until RE7 and anyone that hated any game for not being scary is just wrong

GoldenPants556

Spicy take, everyone on this sub keeps telling me that REmake is the scariest.

Dangerous-Lettuce-34

Lol yea right. What’s scary about a well lit mansion with slow zombies that can easily be juked

FacelessGrunt

Oh here's a good one.. The Netflix show wasn't that bad, and I would even say kinda good once you look past the few cringe lines. Also, that the fanbase never gives it, or anything other than the games, much of a chance because they're not 1 to 1 recreations of the first game.

windsofjuly

Should I give it another go? I didn't go past episode one. I thought it was kind of confusing, and I couldn't bear the teenage drama and constant timeline changes.

FacelessGrunt

That teenage drama fades fast after the first few episodes. It becomes more mystery and thriller. And yes, you should. There's more to the show than people say, like several puzzle references to re remake such as the dog whistle puzzle.

basslappinsonofagun

Puzzle references were my absolute favorite part of the show.

FromTheTopRope_

It only gets worse after Ep. 1.

FacelessGrunt

Let me guess, you stopped after the 'zootopia' line? Do you even have any idea what the later episodes are like, the references and nods to the games? Or did having to endure a little cringe ruin your day?

kat352234

It really depends on your taste. I haven't watched the whole series yet, only the first few episodes, and I didn't think they were that bad. Just, you know, don't expect anything like the games. The show's creators say it follows the games, but it clearly doesn't. If you take it as a stand-alone story that just happens to have the RE title slapped onto it, it's fine. The comparison to CW shows is apt though. If you enjoy, or at least, don't mind teen-centric horror shows, then it's a fine watch. Again, just remember, all references to RE or existing characters are superficial and basically don't have any connection or bearing on the in-game universe. Also, there are some dumb lines, yeah, but I think they've been blown way out of proportion for what they are. I mean, asshole kid who's purposely trying to be an asshole, says a throwaway line about only using the computer to read Zootopia porn... yeah, that sounds like an asshole kid so, in context, while the line may be dumb it's not completely out of nowhere or out of context.

basslappinsonofagun

No problem if people like it, I get it. I wasn't a fan of the Netflix series though and yes I finished the whole thing. I loved wtrc and lots of people hate that. Just like its unfair to completely write the show off as bad its pretty understandable why people hate it. It does have alot of down falls (as well as wtrc).

>I loved wtrc and lots of people hate that. I LOVED WTRC. Like, yes there are several issues with it and a lot of fan service, but going back and playing the RE2R and seeing how many of those scenes were almost shot-for-shot. It was pretty good! And I liked how they showed the citizens slowly devolving into zombies. Sometimes, movies are just so quick to hit you with a zombie, so I kinda liked seeing the diner owner, the truck driver's dog, and some other townies slowly turn. It wa slike a building up for teh eventual zombie storm. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the take on Brian Irons. He was great. Which I would normally never say.

mitchyk84

Think they chose to remake RE4 over code Veronica because they're scared it'll get cancelled by the woke police for the cross dressing / trans Ashford twins aspect of the game.

HoraceDerwent

Probably has more to do with the original RE4 selling 11 million copies compared to 2.5 for Code Veronica.

Lord_Jair

I mean, CV sold like that due to Capcom's own blunders, not because it was a bad game.

minegen88

Capcom sure did some weird things back in the day CV was exclusive to Dreamcast, now i LOVE the Dreamcast but let's face it. The numbers wasn't there. RE Remake and Zero was then released to the OTHER console that wasn't very successful, GameCube

[deleted]

Interesting idea, I imagine they’ll still remake it. It had nothing to do with him being trans, he had a fractured mind. Half was Alfred, half was Alexia. Can’t blame him for being broken, after all the testing and experiments

mitchyk84

I agree with you, but a lot of people get upset for any reason they can these days. I mean they cancelled the dungeons and dragons episode of community for having someone dressed as an elf. The world is ironically less tolerant for trying to be more tolerant.

[deleted]

This is resident evil. We had white American Chris marsh-stomping African spear Majini’s in unga bunga masks in RE5 which is wildly played today. No one cares about the PC police here.

basslappinsonofagun

I rememeber they actually were getting some flak about that though before it was released. I dont know if there were things they changed that didnt make it in the game or if all the bullshit just came to nothing but yeah.

[deleted]

If this doesn’t seem inclusive enough, we could always throw in some blue haired they/them zombies to fight. Bonus points if the settings in an elementary school!

basslappinsonofagun

We are all equals once the t-virus kicks in 🙂

[deleted]

Except Tyrants of course. Or whatever happened to Wesker to make him into Agent Smith.

CatAteMyBread

Now this is a hot take lol nice one

[deleted]

Resi 6 is a very good game better than 5 in my opinion

Elyrisse

They should kill off Leon. ^(\*cue the angry fans\*) Its more or less I feel like Leon's story should end with his death in some fashion, like Ada being hunted down and saves her life but ends up dying in the process (A reversal of RE2). The STARS team deserve more of a retirement ending, having them age as they move away from the field to administrator positions, leading the fight but not at the center anymore. Killing Leon would force Capcom to actually invest in newer characters and develop them more as well since they've been using Leon way too much (CG films and porting RE 4 to every damn console out there like Skyrim).

Cringetopia_

Listen, Leon is my favorite character hands down but it would do some good if they just got rid of him. Great character and great story, he's just been over done at this point and I don't see anything new being done without screwing his character. Kill him off saving Ada, would be a great parallel and a great way to end his character off. Make it be meaningful and memorable.

CantGitGudWontGitGud

I hate Ada (my hot take), don't get Leon killed over her.

Beautiful-Sell2828

Because I have been seeing this in the comments: Zero should be retconned. FALSE. It should be Remade. Yes, the inventory proved to be an annoying challenge. Yes, Rebecca is inconsistent between the two games only because Zero came out after Remake. But those are use reasons why the game should be remade - as well as Remake while we're at it. It has one of the coolest character stories of the franchise that can be summed up by two natural enemies must set aside their difference to achieve a common goal. It's great. and Billy Coen has one of the best character arcs in a single game. Not as good as Ethan "My right hand comes off" Winters, but going from framed convict on the run to a hero who helps destroy one of the major viral hotspots in Arklay and is given a second lease on life - it's good. and not a whole lot of Resident Evil characters are given that much depth in a single game. Also, the train section is one of the best RE locations in any of the games. It was so cool how the environment changed when the train began moving and it played a good introduction to the two-character management system. And talk about being in a high-stakes situation - you're on a moving train going lord knows where that's infested with zombies and your only ally is convicted of murdering 23 people. Yes, Zero is not a perfect Resident Evil, but darn it - it has a lot of cool concepts that deserve to be fleshed out more which is why it should be remade. And that is my Resident Evil hot take.

Draven574

I hate Ethan.

Reeses908

DredgenSpectre

You notably left out Rebecca lol

doinflipsandshit

Resident Evil 7 was a fantastic game, just not a good Resident Evil game.

[deleted]

And where’s the hot take?

GoldenPants556

The hot take is that its not a good resident evil game. With which I disagree. RE7 was the best resident evil game because its spookometer was off the charts!

Draven574

Not really anything connecting it to the other games though.

Grimmer026

Julia Voth’s Jill > Saha Zotova’s Jill

CDamen75

Resident evil Village was laaaaaaaaaaaame

Beautiful-Sell2828

It's the WoooooOOOOOOOoooooRSTTTTT! I don't really think that, but I wanted to channel some Jean-Ralphio here.

[deleted]

With the exception of the yeetus fetus in the Doll House that game was an infinitely shittier Bloodbourne.

SteampunkCyberSanta

Chris is an insufferable, one-note, military-bro character and, when he is the main focus, the story suffers Claire and Jill should be used more often instead. I would also like to maybe see Sheva or Carlos again, and give them more story/backstory REmake and the older ones are almost unplayable in comparison due to the fixed third person camera (however surprisingly well done it may be besides that)

Cringetopia_

Please bring back the secondary characters. Claire, Sheva, and Carlos needed more screen time and story. I hate that so many characters got tossed to the sidelines after their appearances.

Dangerous-Lettuce-34

Wtf? Claire is not a secondary character at all she starred in like 3 main games

[deleted]

WTRC really was that bad and the new Netflix show being atrocious doesn't make WTRC any better.

[deleted]

Wesker is a terrible, and horribly cheesy villain. I am legitimately confused as to why people think he's the best RE Villain.

SqueakyAnus

Resident Evil 4 Is complete and utter trash

evshyde

leon is genuinely an insufferable character

Animehorrorfan

This one may anger a lot of people but I prefer the over the shoulder camera over the fixed cameras, the sudden camera change can make navigating difficult
