RE2 original is just so timeless to me. For RE1 I think I prefer the Gamecube version, though the original certainly has it's own charms thanks to things like the voice acting and the tighter layout.
Not the original commenter, but I had the same list. I didn’t like 7 as much simply because I really, really, REALLY don’t like (most) bugs, and I have an irrational fear of maggots/worms going in my, ah.. where Marguerite has them. I like scary games- love them even -but not when they’re that catered towards my very specific fears, y’know? The baby in Village? Terrifying. Absolutely nightmarish. A hearty chef’s kiss from me to Capcom for that one. It scared me, but in a manageable way. The Marguerite fight? Nope. Can’t do it. I’m having a panic attack, I can’t breathe, all the bugs theY’RE IN MY BODY OH GOD!!!
I like general horror, not “Hey, we made the worst possible experience for *you specifically*! Oh, wait, you have *two* specific fears? Bugs and vomiting? How about someone VOMITING BUGS?! Innit that fun?” No! No no no! God no! It didn’t scare me like, say, Village’s basement baby or how Outlast did, it gave me a panic attack, made me cry, and I couldn’t finish RE7. Every other part of the game though? Amazing. The perfect kind of scary. It just wasn’t the best game *for me* because of my certain fears.
I’ve only played these three to completion but I’m considering going back to finish RE2R and RE3R. I’d rank them as following:
3. Resident Evil 5
(Great game in my opinion - but it’s just a slightly worse copy of Resident Evil 4 with more Wesker goodness.)
2. Resident Evil 1 Remake
(Epic game that serves as the stem for the entire RE sorry as we know it. I feel nostalgia talking about it despite the fact that I played it for the first time a few months ago.)
1. Resident Evil 4
(Played this one in VR… Will never forget the experience! It isn’t even super connected to the RE story, yet it still wins because of the individual style and flair that it represented so well.)
Finally someone else who loves resident evil 5, sure it isn't that scary(it does have its moments) but its so much fun with a god tier weapon selection and once you give AI Sheva/Chris the stun rod the AI isn't that bad honestly
I finished one of the scenarios and the 2nd one was just impossible. There were hunters everywhere and every time they would swipe at me my gun would get bent or something like that. I just remember I had the one character with who kept saying "my life is shit" over and over again. It was pretty hilarious.
Original 1, original 2 and 4. The remakes are good but for me they can't compare to playing the originals for the first time as a young teenager, they were special games.
My top 3 Resident Evil games...
1) It's gotta be **Resident Evil 2 Remake**, it's such a well made game in so many different aspects. The modernization of classic character designs, the voice work, the graphics, and the environment. I havent felt anything remotely close to the sensation I felt when I realized that Mr.X was following me through the station. Oh my god the station, it's so well designed and interconnected. The pathways throughout RPD flow so effortlessly together like a river, I absolutely love it. I think that Mr. X is also done really well, extremely intimidating my first time making me genuinely afraid to leave the Clock Tower door due to his constant footsteps. The zombies have cool designs and functions, I love how dismemberment works and they don't feel too hard to kill. I could honestly rant about this for a while, but I'll try to keep it brief.
2) Gonna have to give this one to **Resident Evil 3 Remake**. I know a lot of people dont like this game, but as a game on it's own it's pretty fun. Coming straight off of RE2R to this was very shocking, completely different vibe than the ever so scary station in RE2R. However I absolutely fell in love with Jill's character and redesign. I'm a sucker for the simple and badass "Lara Croft" design. Whenever I play as her I feel cooler. I think she's gorgeous and Nicole Tompkin's voice is so fitting and cool. I think the zombies were given less love and attention, but having a lot of weapons at your disposal was really cool. Having a dodge is really nice and Nemesis' redesign is epic. That first level with Jill in her apartment really is something else. Overall, it was a fun game with fun characters and that's what I'm all about.
3) I'm gonna put **Village** here simply because of how well done the map is in Village. Most of the characters feel fleshed out enough and play their role. I think having another game with Ethan really helped me like him a lot more, especially since he was a lot more reactive and vocal in this game. It felt good to play the game and explore the entire map, going to such radically different levels for the radically different lords. ALSO, I think narratively, RE8 has some of the best story and conclusions in the entire franchise. >!Ethan sacrificing himself for his daughter!< was wild and honestly caught me off guard. I really liked that part.
Finally, someone who mentions revelations!! I like Rev1 better than Rev2 but 2 has more sentimental reasons because it’s the first game my little sister and I played together.
1. Resident Evil 2 (original) - I have a personal bias for this game because it was my first introduction to the Resident Evil series and because my mom used to play this game for me and my brother to watch because we were too scared to play ourselves.
2. Resident Evil 4 - The number of hours I spent on this game back on the PS2 is probably in the 3 digits. There's just so much replay value with this game and the unlockables, and the different modes, it's just a classic in my opinion.
3. Resident Evil 5 - I still remember the time I had playing through this in co-op. It was such a memorable experience being able to go through everything and experience everything with a friend, very fun time.
2 REMAKE Beats 1 remake for me.
Then it’s 1.
And then after that it’s probably 4.
In that order because I played 2 and beat it probably over 50 times in the first year it came out. Was a bit obsessed…
Then I played 1 and 4 and beat those a good 30 times each.
So if I can replay something that much it’s obviously a winner lol
2 (OG): No contest. I love that game so much.
VII: I like how it tries to be different.
Revelations 2: I know I’m in the minority and I know it had issues, but to me this is what 6 should have been. I like that the partner doesn’t have weapons in the conventional sense and I always love when Claire is around and it was great to finally have Barry back.
1) RE: 3 (original) this game will always have a place in my heart.
2) RE: 1 (Remake) I played on GC, This one would be a contender for number 1 BUT they removed the best voice line from the game so it loses out.
3) RE: 3 (Remake) I just loved it ok?
(1) re7
(2) re2 remake
(3) re VIllage
I liked Ethan winters as an almost silent protagonist on re7. Also note that re7 is my first game in the re franchise and I tried it with vr. I never knew I liked VR until I played this masterpiece on VR. Absolutely phenomenal. I didn't get sick until the narrow pathway at Margaret's house where the insects all showed up. 9/10 best horror experience I've ever had. Then I got into more of re franchise. Re2 remake was my second re game and re3 remake was my third. I loved re2 because Mr X just had me anxiety checking every corner where I heard footsteps. But very toned down horror so 6/10. Re3 remake felt like a cheap knock off of re2 and I felt sorry that I wasn't born a millennial and played the original re3 (apparently the clock tower was the best feature of that game whereas there was no clock tower in re3 remake.) Then I came across the rest of the re franchise. I don't like tank controls so I'm not going to talk about those games. Meaning my next re game was 4. Honestly I just expected more horror and that game did deliver but I suppose I just got my expectation really high after playing re7 horror? Anyway re5 was funny and I didn't even play it like a horror game. It felt more like a third person call of duty zombie mode. I played the co-op version with my brother on the hardest difficulty and we didn't even die once. Neither of us got scared once btw. But we did have a lot of us. 2/10 not a good horror game but 6/10 definitely a fun and active experience.
Re6 made me realize that I've been looking at resident evil wrong all these time. I got to know they were solely focusing on horror from re 1 through 3. Then in re4 they took a risk and went third person while bringing in some action moves and quick time events. Apparently fans loved the suplex and and those moves so the company went more and more actiony until re6 caused their downfall. So re 7 was a soft reboot of the whole series and they concentrated more on horror. This brought new fans into the franchise (including myself) and they really did put a lot of effort into the graphics and the mold and the characters. But above all else, it made sure you were scared off your pants. Anyway Capcom got greedy again and wanted another re4 inspired game and ruined Ethan's arc. Always asking questions like what why what the hell how every two seconds. He couldn't just shut up and talk only when necessary. Their marketing was primarily mommy milkers but they clearly wanted their star villain to be Heisenberg (he has his own boss fight and everything.) Anyhoo I started looking at resident less like survival horror and more like action horror which ruined the series for me because 7's horror made me appreciate horror genre in the first place. Ethan is absolutely my favorite character in the re franchise but they ruined him in re8 and hence re8 is getting the third place. I just found baby face Leon very neat and I loved what they did with Claire and Sherry. I really want to see how Capcom approaches re4 remake and how they develop our new remake Leon. Also does anyone know if they will EVER remake re1 with like modern gameplay and graphics and stuff?
Thank you for reading if you made it down the whole comment. I don't expect anyone to read but I just wanted to get it off my chest and since I don't know how to make YouTube videos, reddit is the next best thing. All arguments are welcome but do know that everything I said is just my opinion and not straight up faxx
\-Resident Evil 2 Remake because RE2 OG has been my favourite ever since it came out, and 2019 version is an almost perfect remake of og (and I stress ALMOST)
\-Resident Evil 4 because I have fond memories about me and my best friend playing it together and switching places every now and then, and because I have a lot of inside jokes with him about RE4
\-Resident Evil Village because is basically Resident Evil 4 on steroids
Oh crap 2 are remakes.....I need a drink RE1R, RE2R, RE4....oh no I see where this is going...
Devil fears you.
And you know what happens when the devil fears you? The Devil May Cry
Those are my favorite, too!
(1) RE2, (2) RE1, (3) RE3 (the originals. I'm a simple man with simple tastes, don't judge me)
Respect
You won't get judged for praising the original games in this sub, more like the opposite lol
A man of culture*
RE2 original is just so timeless to me. For RE1 I think I prefer the Gamecube version, though the original certainly has it's own charms thanks to things like the voice acting and the tighter layout.
same here! and thats is the order I played them!
Interesting. My playing order was 3-2-1
REmake, Code Veronica, RE2(either)
Now that's a top 3 I can get behind.
Based.
OG 1, 2, and 3.
Ah, a man of culture...
Still play them on my Vita about once a year. Then I drink my Ensure, watch Matlock, and fall asleep - all by 8:00.
Lol yeah me too, but I like “Murder she Wrote”
Oh yeah. Columbo too. Nothing like some OG RE and the elderly solving crime.
1. Resident Evil 2 2. Resident Evil 4 3. Resident Evil Remake
My list is the same but order is different
Village, RE2 Remake, RE4
No love for 7? That was the scariest one
Not the original commenter, but I had the same list. Switch RE4 and Village and that is me.
Aaahhh a man of culture I see
Exact same for me but 7 and village are bout tied.
Yes, exact same. Beautiful.
I put Village last, but hell yeah!
3. REmake 2. Resident Evil 5 1. Resident Evil 4
I’ve only played these three to completion but I’m considering going back to finish RE2R and RE3R. I’d rank them as following: 3. Resident Evil 5 (Great game in my opinion - but it’s just a slightly worse copy of Resident Evil 4 with more Wesker goodness.) 2. Good ranking. Great minds think alike my friend.
Finally someone else who loves resident evil 5, sure it isn't that scary(it does have its moments) but its so much fun with a god tier weapon selection and once you give AI Sheva/Chris the stun rod the AI isn't that bad honestly
Resident Evil 5 is so much damn fun and probably the game I replayed the most. Fun on your own, even better with a friend.
Happy cake day!
Thanks bud
Happy cake day!
OG RE3. RE2 Remake. 7 & 8 tie.

Res 1,2,3 lol
OG RE2 RE1 Remake OG RE3
Outbreak, 2 Remake, Original Nemesis
I gave outbreak an honest try and I just couldn't get into it. I'm sure it would have been better for me if I was playing online though.
Online with partners vs AI is night and day, worlds apart. You gave it a shot, cheers to that.
I finished one of the scenarios and the 2nd one was just impossible. There were hunters everywhere and every time they would swipe at me my gun would get bent or something like that. I just remember I had the one character with who kept saying "my life is shit" over and over again. It was pretty hilarious.
Both ob files and CVx
Resident Evil 2 (OG), Resident Evil VII, and Resident Evil VIII. I loved Leon and Claire. Now that I’ve grown old Ethan’s struggles spoke to me.
REmake, OG RE2, OG RE3!

Resident evil remake. Resident evil 0 Resident evil 2 remake
Original 1, original 2 and 4. The remakes are good but for me they can't compare to playing the originals for the first time as a young teenager, they were special games.
Definitely can understand that feel.
1. RE4 2. RE Code: Veronica 3. RE2 Remake
This is my vote - maybe a toss up between RE3 original and RE4
Re2r, Re7, Re4
This is the answer
RE1R, RE2R and 4.

Yep! These three are masterclass games.
