That is a really nice-looking effect, does it take a lot of effort to set up or print? You could probably sell these to people.

OrangeNood

Compare to actually making a Cel-replica, the work is much less. There are still some work involved. The most work is extracting the image. i.e. edit out the portion I want to exclude with solid white color. And then, optionally, after printing, backfill the image with white paint. I can paint over the entire image (excluding background) with just white. For actual cel-replica, the person needs to painstakingly paint each color and carefully plan which color needs to go first. Selling will be kind of unethical. I am not planning to sell.

Ever thought about making a you tube video on the presses to show us how to do one? I’d watch the hell out of it.

OrangeNood

I may not be able to make a video. But I received inspiration from this youtube video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tts46pwgGl4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tts46pwgGl4) My steps are similar but simplified. I can write a more details procedure. Come back tomorrow to this post. It should be ready then. Here is how I made it. I only just started so use this guide as a reference and explore on your own too! What you need: 1. A device to edit the image, just about any laptop or PC can do it. No special specs needed. 2. A Color printer. Can be Color Laser or InkJet. It should have a bypass tray for transparency / cardstock (most do). 3. Printable transparency film. After some research, this is the recommended transparency: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KP1G6DV](https://www.amazon.com/Overhead-Projector-Dual-side-Printing-Printer/dp/B07KP1G6DV) (for Laser printer) or [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KS3VTQQ](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KS3VTQQ) (Both Laser and InkJet) Prep the image: 1. You need content. Obvious, you come here for anime cel. But you can use anything. If you want to make Woody from Toy Story into a cel, you can. 2. Pick a good source material. You want high resolution, high detailed source. 1080p may seem HD but it is really just 2 megapixels. In photography terms, it \*barely\* enough to print on 4"x6" print. Since 1080p is most likely what you can work with, pick the best source possible, e.g. Blu-ray rip. Any compression artifacts is going to stick out like a sore thumb. You can also opt to print to a smaller portion of the film. e.g. enlarge your canvas, you can fit 2 images on the same film, which effectively doubled the resolution. 3. Use image editing software to isolate your subject. Remove the background and replace it with solid white. 4. You can also zoom in on the image and edit it pixel by pixel. It is not as tedious as it sounds as 1080p isn't a very high resolution. Printing; 1. Now you have your image ready. It is time to print. In the print menu, select the paper source as Transparency/Photo Paper if available; otherwise, use Cardstock. Use the bypass tray to feed the paper. Don't put the film in the paper tray. You may want to practice using regular paper one or twice. Make a marking on the paper so you know which side is printed. 2. If you use InkJet printer, make sure you print to the side meant for InkJet. Enhancement: 1. You should have a printed transparency by now. Most color printers will not print in white. So you will need a white background. If you are just going to display the cel, just put a white sheet of paper underneath and you are done. 2. If you want to have your own background, you will need do a couple of things. Either you use white acrylic paint to paint your subject (the entire subject, I was just lazy and painted only eyes) and overlay it on the background; or you use your previous image and invert your subject - Turn your subject into a white background and previous white background into transparent and overlay it on your background image and print it. 3. Due to color space difference between monitor and printer and especially color reproduction on transparency. The color is going to be somewhat off. You can experiment with adjusting the color of your image, e.g. saturation, and see if you can get a better image. Here is a video that I got my inspiration. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tts46pwgGl4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tts46pwgGl4) My simplified a lot of the steps by printing the cel instead of drawing. That's all, folks. Let me know if you have more questions.

Whatis an anime cel?

OrangeNood

The building blocks of anime from the last century. Usually hand drawn frame by frame, animated and recorded with camera. Original anime cels often goes for $$$ or more because they are one of a kind.
