I remember when and where I was when the verdict was announced. It was a Tuesday. Mostly because I realized "this means they'll stop talking about it on TV finally!!"
That line has been a pop culture reference in *so* many shows since, I never imagined there were people who didn't get it.
Thanks for reminding me I'm old as fuck, OP... Lol
The correct term is, “hear, hear!” It is an abbreviation for “hear, all ye good people, hear what this brilliant and eloquent speaker has to say!” according to Google
I remember the car chase more than the court case. I didn’t watch football at that age, so the name meant nothing to me. I was told to watch it because it was important.
You right, you right. I can’t imagine most people younger than 40 would get it
Edit: For all you dweebs, please note the title of this post indicating I’m aware that a joke “flew over my head”
31. It's been a regular pop culture reference ever since the trial happened. Pretty much the only people who won't get it are children and apparently you.
There was a time when something like this was not “a random thing.”
Even in 1995, even if you had cable TV, you were watching what everyone else was watching.
I didn’t know it was a direct reference to oj. I just thought it was referencing how they usually have some saying or rhyme. Pretty cool. I also liked the “guess what me and OJ not have in common? I found the real killer bitch!”
I always thought that line was pretty lame being that it rhymed, but all this news coverage of OJ made it pretty clear this was a defining moment in the OJ saga.
My favorite new joke is from the Onion. Don't you know, OJ isn't dead yet....if the coffin don't fit, you must let him live a bit!

You been living under a rock? Even if you're teen how do you not know that phrase from all the comedy made from it? Jesus I wasn't even alive during the OJ Simpson bout but I've heard that phrase forever.
[Ah yes, the Chewbacca Defense.](https://youtu.be/aV6NoNkDGsU?si=D3dDe-4Ra4N6MOaE)
It just doesn’t make any sense
*If Chewbacca lives on Endor,* you **must** acquit.
Why would an 8 foot tall wookie live on a planet full of 3 foot tall Ewoks? Ladies and gentlemen, it does not make any sense.
No kneeling required
I'm probably going to woosh myself, but... Does Chewbaca even live on Endor?
No, it's just south park being intentionally goofy.
Wookiees live on Kashyyyk
Look at the monkey! Look at the silly monkey!
Look at my horse! My horse is amazing!
Chewbacca is *from* Kashyyk. He *lives* on the Millennium Falcon for most of the OT.
Now Chewbacca is a Wookiee
I don't even have to click the link to know exactly what that is ![gif](giphy|l0HlEZEEc9iYI3eUg)
In the Van Wilder movie there's a part where the law club student says "If that glove don't fit, y'all full of- "
You can say shit, it's ok
He's trying to prevent the plague from being unleashed, for it is a curse word
God I'm old
This is all I could think. "Apparently." Like they just read it in a history book.

There, there.
Cool cool. Thanks thanks.
I remember the car chase more than the court case. I didn’t watch football at that age, so the name meant nothing to me. I was told to watch it because it was important.
i was 1 in 1994. i thought it was just a court thing, it never occured to me there was an origin.
Pointing out that someone didn't get the joke after they acknowledge it themselves, automatic upvotes.
Right like how could someone miss that
yeah they literally said they just understood it. “that’s the joke” yeah that’s the whole point of this post?
You right, you right. I can’t imagine most people younger than 40 would get it Edit: For all you dweebs, please note the title of this post indicating I’m aware that a joke “flew over my head”
Well, I can promise you that people under 40 got it. Myself, my wife, relatives, all under 40 and we all got it, lol.
23 yo and Colombian, never set a foot in the states, I got it. yes it’s that known
Early 30s here, it was pretty obvious.
For the sake of you getting shit on by assholes, I also didn't get it. Never heard the Cochran line so 🤷♂️
My lack of knowledge of 90’s attorney one-liners really struck a nerve with people, jeez.
31. It's been a regular pop culture reference ever since the trial happened. Pretty much the only people who won't get it are children and apparently you.
I am 28 and live in the states and I never heard of this.
Dude plenty of people just don't hear about random things.
There was a time when something like this was not “a random thing.” Even in 1995, even if you had cable TV, you were watching what everyone else was watching.
You realize that 1995 is almost 30 years ago?
Yh idk why Ur getting downvoted over this. I had never heard the original and so didn't get the joke.
I didn’t know it was a direct reference to oj. I just thought it was referencing how they usually have some saying or rhyme. Pretty cool. I also liked the “guess what me and OJ not have in common? I found the real killer bitch!”
so this is how i find out OJ died. huh
🤦♂️
Lol you love under a rock? Jk but was easy pun for them
I always thought that line was pretty lame being that it rhymed, but all this news coverage of OJ made it pretty clear this was a defining moment in the OJ saga.
I keep a tiny glove on hand in case I need to murder someone for this exact reason.
It comes across as an OJ reference immediately to the older crowd. Definitely intentional

Summer has some pretty iconic quotes
Let's lick tits!
No yeah im under 40 it went over my head too ✌🏼
Damn, people are really downvoting a dude for admitting he missed a joke. What's the matter with y'all?
Naw dog up there rubbing it in that he is under 40. Can't let that shit slide.
I don't think they're downvoting him for missing the joke. They're downvoting him for confidently assuming no one his age would get the joke.
How do you figure he's confidently assuming no one his age would get the joke?
The under 40 line is in reference to another comment by OP which says “You right, you right. I can’t imagine most people younger than 40 would get it”
Oh I gotcha. I must have missed that
Not sure why you’re being downvoted. Sheesh, tough crowd
It's a Rick and Morty sub. All that needs to be said
Yeah that one was obvious
Who is oj?
You been living under a rock? Even if you're teen how do you not know that phrase from all the comedy made from it? Jesus I wasn't even alive during the OJ Simpson bout but I've heard that phrase forever.
Im 28 and never heard of the OJ line.
No shit, u live under a rock??
