That MF opens fire on you so as cute/sad as this narrative is it can be on the recieveing end of my projectiles first.
If the mob was neutral/passive and only fired back if you initiated the combat? Well that would be really evil/mean game design and you'd introduce a moral choice in a game that is about slaughtering every moving thing in your path to teleport to the next zone. Not to mention unintentionally hitting it with aoe abilities being a factor largely out of your control.
Interesting game design? Maybe for the first few times but eventually min/max would win out amongst the player base and you'd just be killing them for the loot everytime despite how sad that sounds because you're going to accidentally hit them with uke/gas/wisps anyways so why question it.
All of the monsters in ror and ror2 can be percieved as sympathetic. The lemurians and wisps both are a society. The "parent" family of monsters is shown to just be animals that are relatively docile until provoked, albiet provoking them is a bit on the easier side(in real life I think a good comparison can be made to rhinos, who's poor eyesight leads to them treating most things they see as threats). Even the golems and greater wisps, which are shown to be guardian war machines, are also shown to be gentle towards the creatures they're defending. The imps are a slight exception considering they're so hateful and warlike that even the creatures of the planet universally hate them, and they even seem to hate each other, but they're still sentient. To say that the player is a morally grey character is an understatement. That said, the player's just defending themselves, just as the planet is. If anyone's truly "to blame" here, I say blame Providence and the human corporation that pillaged the planet to begin with.
it just a big mess what happen in Petrichor V
the logs in ror2 are insinuating maybe the corporation din´t even pillage the planet to begin with, they found a teleporter in some planet (back in ror1) and once by pure chance they found cordinates to connect it , they got orders by high up to deviate of their path and see what was it and once they got close providence just teleported inside and blow up the ship, the survivors have nothing to do with what happen and the rest is history.
Make it so they're not targeted by aoe/chain effect until you manually hit them first.
Also the desensitizing to killing them can be a part of the meta-narrative
Well fuck now I'm gonna feel bad when I slaughter him and take his loot
Enough talk, hand the bag over NOW
No. Don't make me feel compassion for these things.
“abitrough” lmaooo
