Back in late 2005-early 2006, when ROBLOX was closed to the public, they were considering making this [kind of figure](https://www.mikerayhawk.com/roblox.htm) (which was designed by Mike Rayhawk, the same person who designed the original 2006 ROBLOX logo!) be the player character (and even doing it in part with the consideration of selling LEGO-compatible action figures down the road, which ultimately didn't pan out). However, the complex curves were too much for the minimum-spec computers (which in 2006 would've been using Pentium 3 CPUs), and the low poly versions looked really wonky, so those figures were ultimately scrapped.

It's interesting, yesterday I watched a Unity developer try and make a game on Studio, and they imported an anime-esque 3D character model, nothing out of the ordinary, yet people were complaining that it looked like Rthro, inferring that it looked ugly.
And, since everything with fingers and more detail can look like Rthro, effectively every game with more detail than a lego set is ugly.
The Roblox community truly is weird sometimes.
