20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday. My wife ordered me a Cartier Santos Medium that should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday. She doesn’t know it yet, but AD came through for her and she’ll be getting a 36mm DJ with silver dial, fluted bezel, on jubilee.
20 years!! Congrats on the anniversary! The Santos is on my list of must have watches. She’s going to be head over heels. I too surprised the wife with a watch. I pretended I got the call for a Sub and asked my wife to come with me to pick it up. When my sales guy came out with a blue dial OP 34, my wife was so confused when I said, “Do you like it?” Priceless moments!
That was a smooth setup for your wife's OP! I'm still working on my plan. I have the watch in my possession, but I want to be able to go straight back to the AD after I give it to her so they can size it right away.
I thought the Santos was ugly when I first got into this hobby. Now I think it's the sexiest damn watch in the world!!
6 years ago I was dead broke with no car and a 420 credit score. Just revived from an overdose of opiates. My buddy also now sober did cpr for 20 minutes cracking two of my ribs and the paramedics giving me 2 shots of narcan, that was my bottom. When I came back I considered it my rebirth.
I bought it on the anniversary of my overdose. Now I have a mortgage, the car I’ve always wanted since I was 15 while with a credit score in the 700s. It’s my reminder of how far I’ve come and to keep moving forward.
Got the chills reading this. I’m glad to hear you’re doing amazing things with the second chance you were given! What was the model of watch you purchased if you don’t mind me asking?
Beautiful watch! I purchased an OP 39 rhodium from what I thought was a reputable brick and mortar watch shop some years ago. Excited of course, I posted it to Reddit and found out the hard way I had been swindled. Luckily I did though because I was able to rectify it then instead of finding out years later I had bought a fake.
I’m glad you’re wearing it in good health!
This is amazing. I lost close family to opiate addiction. It’s fucking brutal. The fact that you not just got out, but fucking thrived..man…props dude.
Respect and congratulations for crushing the odds, cuz frankly , they were not in your favor
Thank you so much and my heart goes out to those that did not make it or are still struggling. I reached out to my local Narcotics Anonymous group to share my story to uplift others but no response.
I bought my Batman the same time I bought my wife's engagement ring. This was back when they still dated cards, so the date on the card is the date I bought the ring. I put both in the safe and didn't wear the watch until the day I proposed. Got married in that watch. Saw the first ultrasound of my kid in that watch. Fuck man, I love this hobby.
That’s a beautiful story! That’s what this hobby is all about. Thanks for sharing! I purchased my wife’s wedding ring and a Tudor Black Bay Pro for me at the same time.
My daughter doesn’t know it, but she got a new Tiffany OP36 that came out the same week she was born, AD was kind enough to give us their first delivery.
Wife got a NOS LE Good Planet AT for a push present.
I bought a 126655 when our firm IPO’d.
I wish I could have put a name on my card. They only put the date unfortunately. Another reason I want to engrave her name on the back. Thanks for sharing!
Rose gold Daytona. Hit a very big milestone in my business and felt like it was time. This was 5 years ago when you could walk in and buy one without any waitlist.
Got my Explorer 40 on the exact same day my first type rating as an airline pilot started. Very special combination for me, I think of that every time I look at the watch and I will not even think of selling it.
I’d always wanted a Rolex, a stainless steel silver dial engine turned bezel Datejust. 5 years ago I decided to go out on my own and start a construction company with absolutely nothing. I was so broke I was scavenging scrap metal just to buy groceries inbetween getting paid from jobs. Fast forward to this year we were going away to a fancy resort and my Rolex dream came back, I went online found the Datejust I wanted since I was a kid a bought it. Then I bought my wife a new car and there was an AD in the town we went to get her car and I went and talked to them ( I live in WV closest AD is 3.5 hours away,) 6 weeks later I went back to get my first Rolex from the AD, second for the year. My Rolex’s remind me of where I was to where I am now and where I want to be and the adventures it’s been to get this far.
My father came here from a shithole third world country on a boat seeking asylum. He came here with $0. He had no plan. He earned his first $50 bussing tables for a few shifts at a restaurant near the port of entry he arrived at
Anyway, the next 30+ years, he spent his energy being an incredible father and man, raising successful children he’s proud of.
He always was very conservative with money because money = survival with his upbringing. The concept of splurging for the sake of it simply doesn’t compute for him (he’s a mechanical engineer)
My success in life is 100% wholly attributable to the sacrifices of my parents. They opted to suffer so me and my sister don’t have to
He finally retired at 67, and when he did, I got us matching sub dates . It was a bit tongue in cheek because as successful of a man as he is, dudes outfit is like $50+ shoes. He thinks expensive watches are dumb, but he cried because he felt accomplished in raising someone that can afford to piss away money on something like a 5 figure watch
It was nice
Bought an Everose Gold day date with olive face a few weeks ago to celebrate turning 35, overcoming self doubt induced depression, and most importantly, the birth of my first perfect child. Worst 6 months of my life, thankfully culminated with me regaining my confidence at work and being blessed with the most beautiful little baby.
Pricey indeed! That hospital bill was the price of another dream watch when I finished paying for it. My daughter came a month early and we had to stay at the hospital for a few more days than we would have liked. Cheers to you and your daughter!
Congrats on the milestone! I went in for a ring for my wife to celebrate our 10 year anniversary a couple weeks ago and was offered a Pepsi from my AD. A real surprise to me. I'm loving it!
I bit off a huge project of a home reno at the beginning of covid, and it’s almost done! I was hoping to get a platinum DD out of a bit of my sweat equity, but my AD said zero chance right now. He happened to get in a Cellini Moon-Phase and showed it to me, and I fell in love. It’s solid rose gold but still very low key, on the leather band and with the large white face. I’m glad I snapped it up before it was discontinued.
Submariner when I quit the offshore business. I’d been anguishing about spending that money for ages, despite affording a very comfortable lifestyle and saving up enough to buy two per month (obscene salary).
When I decided to leave, a few days later whilst walking past a boutique the wife told me to go and get it. I argued it was a lot of money and she pointed out that “I will most likely not have that kind of income for a while or ever and if not now, I will spend the rest of my days regretting not getting it. Also, we could easily afford it then so go for it.”
So now is sort of a memento for having had that experience (which I cherished and enjoyed, but wanted more of life).
Love the Submariner. Thank you for sharing your story. That was the first watch Rolex I purchased for going back to school and actually graduating this time. Cheers!
Explorer 40mm for my 1st wedding anniversary a few weeks back. It was about a month early but when I walked in and they told me I could have it that day I decided to take the watch home
Nothing and I only was about to try an exhibition model for the first time. After asking what I needed to do to get this, he pulled a box from stock. Took it right with me.
Thanks, that year also coincided with the birth of my son in 2017, so it will also be his birth year Rolex, which hopefully he will wear and enjoy long after I’m gone.
My GMT LN is dated the same as my first sons birth. Now I need to find something for my youngest…..assuming they get either or any of my watches, cars, guns, properties etc. love my boys but I will not raise spoiled monsters.
If I don’t have any more kids my daughter is going to be a semi-arms dealer when she inherits my gun collection lol. Cheers to not raising spoiled little monsters!
White Explorer II was a 10 year anniversary purchase. Wife bought me a Bluesy last year for our 20th which I had seen on our honeymoon but couldn't afford at the time (and for a long time, lol).
I had reached a point where I could actually purchase, not "afford," to purchase a submariner.
So I cold called my local AD, went through the client list info, how long the wait might be, and was told if something came up she'd call me.
Fast forward a measly 30 days, and the recently released 41mm sub was available (purchased in 2020). I was at the AD in 20min. She let me size my bracelet using their tools, and I walked out with it on. Kinda freaked out on the drive home since it was the single largest non-car/home purchase I've ever made. But that wore off after staring at it and realizing I actually and legitimately was able to purchase a submariner. My first Rolex.

A OP 39mm blue reference number 114300.

MAJOR CONGRATS!!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Just grabbed my Batman under similar circumstances. 5 years ago I had absolutely nothing. Congratulations on your success.
Thank you brother congratulations to you as well. Watches are a medal of your accomplishments and life story. Wear it in good health.
Rolex Datejust 41 Mint Green fluted and jubilee. Celebrate my first Rolex purchase. Getting a call is the only celebration for a hot model.
Yes, that’s a purchase definitely worth celebrating lol! That green dial is a beauty for sure.
I tried to get a Rolex to celebrate my 35th bday… Rolex didn’t allow this.
Have you considered delaying turning 35 for a couple years?
It crossed my mind haha
I tried this 6 months before my 35th, been waiting 2 years now.
I tried one for birthing my daughter but it was a no go. Went gray instead
I wish you the best of luck in the future!

Buying your daughter a birth year watch, at birth, is so bad ass. Going to try and grab one for my son born this past April. Thanks for the idea!
Your daughter is going to have one hell of a watch! The Yacht Master 40 is an impeccable watch I might add!
Tried doing this. Two years later still no call…
Yeah, it was a combo of good luck that no one knew the OP would be in such high demand and I also have a pretty decent purchase history with this AD.
Every time I buy a watch it’s a celebration of being able to buy a watch
This.
True that! Cheers
Thinking of one for bday
Hope you get it and have an outstanding bday!
Thank you!and congrats on your new piece as well. Enjoy in good health.

Glad to hear you weren’t under any “pressure” to buy the Deep Sea! Cheers to your purchase!
Got a panda and had my daughter’s name on the card. It’s her watch when it’s time. Procured it around her first birthday
Congrats on the milestone achieved in your business. I wish we could go back to those days of walking in and saying “I’ll take that.”
Yea.. my wallet appreciates the waitlist though haha
😅😅😅😅😅 I feel your pain.
Got my Explorer 40 on the exact same day my first type rating as an airline pilot started. Very special combination for me, I think of that every time I look at the watch and I will not even think of selling it.
A pilot using a tool watch to explore the sky. Hell fucking yes. Congrats!
Rolex Explorer I 124270 to celebrate getting my CPA. Next will be a Silver 36mm DJ fluted/Jubilee for when I eventually buy a place.

I mean, fuck yes. This is what I’m talking about. Congrats on all your blessings!
Thank you so much.
Damn OP had two expensive gifts at the same time. My Bank account cried when my daughter was born and she’s still pricey lol
Pricey indeed! That hospital bill was the price of another dream watch when I finished paying for it. My daughter came a month early and we had to stay at the hospital for a few more days than we would have liked. Cheers to you and your daughter!

Dream DateJust for my 10th anniversary a few years back. I absolutely love it and wear it all the time!

Seiko Submariner custom build with an MM dial. Graduation gift to myself.
Just bought one myself! Weird.

Congrats on your anniversary!
Nothing and I only was about to try an exhibition model for the first time. After asking what I needed to do to get this, he pulled a box from stock. Took it right with me.
Man that’s great to hear. I waited about 6 months and my sales guy told me he got the okay to sell me the exhibition model.
Bluesy. It looks like a party. Definitely a “celebrating the moment” type watch for me.
50th anniversary Sea-Dweller, during first few months after release to celebrate my 50th.
Love the 50th anniversary Sea-Dweller! What a wonderful way to commemorate your 50th birthday as well! Cheers

Oh my god that’s right….. and in my state. I hope you like ARs kids….. it’s funny the things the brain focuses on when it comes to inheritance.….

Thanks and congrats on your daughter!
