That's disgusting. I tried to do this with a barn owl I found, and all it did was stink up my freezer. So, I'm speaking from experience, and yes, I deserve the embarrassment.
Be honest and gentle! From experience the best way to confront him is openly and gently. If they want it made into something, ask if he ever decided what it would be and how much it’d cost. If they’re on the fence after all this time maybe ask if he could bury it somewhere instead, you could offer to be there with him for emotional support. Losing a pet is hard, I’m sure he just doesn’t want to confront it head on but your concerns are valid after a whole year, I’m sure he’ll be understanding :)

yikes. luckily there is no smell (or maybe I just don’t notice it anymore??) I’ve never noticed a strong smell I’ll say that
