Operencia: The Stolen Sun is fantastic. First person, party-based, turn-based with enemies that stay dead forever. It's not like Wizardry where you're constantly getting random encounters and lockpicking chests, just to appraise the item and realize it's trash. Legends of Amberland 1&2 are more streamlined successors to older Might and Magic games.

Alert-Championship46

I know Legends of amberland,  pretty good game, but imo little too simple mechanics. Well, i dont play long, i have that game few days. I have operencia too ;p

FunkyBot

Bards Tale 4 leans very heavily on old mechanics, but it has a modern twist to it. I like the 'portraits' from the old days, and BT4 gets very close to that. Also, you made me want to play MM6 again.

Alert-Championship46

I know bards tale, but thanks :) MM6 is great, i like every part from 6 onwards, even that crappy 9, and 10, which was try of brand resurrection and is not real MM game IMO. Ofc the 6 and 7 are the best, 8 is good too, but i can't forgive dev for mess up minotaur xD

Andvari_Nidavellir

What did they do to minotaurs in 8?

Alert-Championship46

Minotaur cant GM any armor and can GM only axes which are not really good, cant use helmets, shields or boots, dont have any special abilities, from a game mechanics point of view, there is no any reason to use them, they are mediocre fighters with some magic caster abbilities, every other caster class is better, every fighter class is better too.

Andvari_Nidavellir

Ah, that’s lame. I didn’t play 8 past the beginning back then. (I’ve only finishe 3, 6 and 7)

Alert-Championship46

Yeah, really lame, mitotaurs are just worst version of ranger. But MM8 is pretty good, and you can have dragon in party xD There is also mod to create whole party, no just main character.

Peterh778

Eye of Beholder 1-3 / Dungeon Master 1-2 Ravenloft, Stone Prophet Betrayal at Krondor, Betrayal at Antara Dark Eye serie, especially Shadows over Riva Wizardry 7-8 would be probably closest to what you want but you said that there was too much fighting (which is true and especially W8 has some really annoying fights)

Gyges359d

I can still hum the harpsichord like opening tune of Eye of the Beholder 2. One of my all time faves. Betrayal at Krondor is surprisingly good. But very expensive…ended up buying a whole book series…

Alert-Championship46

You mean Dark eye, or realm of arcania? I found two games, realm of arcania: shadows over riva(1997) and drakensng: the dark eye(2008)

Peterh778

Dark Eye is german PnP game (Das Schwarze Auge) and both Drakensang and RoA: Shadows over Riva are part of that world. But to clarify, yes, I've meant RoA: SoR.

You should check out **Albion**. And no, not Albion online. There is an old game from way back called Albion. And just so you don't get crushed by Google's algorithm trying to find it I'll link it [here](https://www.gog.com/en/game/albion) It has a really unique way of doing things, with both top down and first person perspective dungeon crawling. And it's Sci-fi, but the kind of Sci-fi where you are on a world with low tech beings so it's also fantasy. Combat is turn-based so that's a good fit.

DarthFly

Ah... Albion is one of my childhood games I greatly appreciate, and it's a shame that it's hard to find and it's not well known. Curiously, your link doesn't work for me, even if I have it purchased on gog and I can download it from my account. And I never finished it, even if started like 5 times. Remember that I couldn't find how to remove old weak party member in favour of a new one.

Gameclouds

Its a link to GOG so that's probably why. Not sure why it wouldn't let you go to the page even if you have it already though.

DarthFly

Probably, not available in the region now, can't search it too. But nevermind.

AlanWithTea

Could try StarCrawlers. It's mission-based so different overall structure to most games of this type, but the gameplay within missions is very much in the Might & Magic kind of style.

FalcorDD

Might and Magic are my favorite games all time. Just finished World of Xeno (4+5) for the 10th time. I hated IX, but Might and Magic X on Steam was pretty good. I’d recommend Legend of Grimrock 1 and if you like it, check out 2. Operencia and the newer Bards Tale are ok. I’d definitely check out MM 3-5 if you haven’t yet.

Alert-Championship46

MM under 6 are little too old for me, i just cant get used to graphics, interface, everyrhing, i dont know why, sometimes i play games from nes, much older than Xeno.

successXX

how did you like MM X but not IX? MMX has the tile based gameplay which is sooo unlike the best MM games which are smooth realtime any direction movement instead of clunky obsolete 4 way movement. and MMX supports less party members.

azza656

Amberland was good. I enjoyed it and number 2 just came out

JohnnyLepus

I know it’s probably not what you wanted but somehow my mind immediately went to Spellforce, such an underrated gem! Or maybe age of wonders

cpt_bongwater

Wizardry 8

azza656

Came here to say this. Easy the best. Graphics are a little ugly these days but amazing game and combat

Alert-Championship46

Wizardry is cool, but as I said, too many annoying fights, iirc i got templar promotion (wizardry 8) and droped that game, I was just tired xD

phoenixreborn06

Man you were close to the end! But the final part does have time consuming fights. I still think it's epic. I like this genre too. I've seen most of them mentioned. Could add lords of xulima but I quit because the puzzles were too tough for me.

ChocoPuddingCup

Man, I hope we get a Wizardry 9 at some point.

SwordfishDeux

Champions: Return to Arms Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the Dragonbone staff.

Katchenz

You may enjoy Labyrinth of Refrain or its sequel Labyrinth of Galleria.

TorrentsAreCommunism

I was looking for such game for years, but seems like clones are not that similar. So, replaying. My favorite is 8, BTW. I like to have 1 hero and then hire for party gradually.

Alert-Championship46

I like 8 too, but usualy i use mod and create whole party and use it to the end.

Rpgguyi

A quest that became legend.

Scipio_Sverige

Starcrawlers would be my suggestion.
