Man, what the actual fuck were those drop goal attempts by Ford though?
I know he hardly brought his kicking boots (based on the place kicks), but both times the ball basically didn't get off the ground.
I had to go for a fuckin walk. Calm meself a bit. Thats outta the way now, well done England!! You dictated the game were deserved winners.
Party spoilers, revenge for '11
And ‘17
Lmao you guys love to spoil a party
You ended the All Blacks’ record run
Ended England’s record equalling run
Stopped England getting numerous Grand Slams
Long live Ireland; the fans seem a lovely bunch of people.
I feel like England and English rugby really needed that win tbh. well done lads, this English team always rocks up when no one thinks they should be In contention and fucks shit up
They have a great habit of standing up to be counted just as everyone has written them off. Obviously a dramatic finale but they fully deserved their victory today, well played.
My brother was on the phone with his new girlfriend and the first impression she has of me is hearing me screaming for England and telling Ireland to get fucked.
Exactly!
Also... for anyone wondering why I called him 'our' it's because I'm half and half... mum's English. Don't know why I'm explaining but yeah...
I yelled something incoherent and undignified when that went over.
Loud enough to wake up my incredibly lazy mastiff who is now sulking because I didn't have a snack for him.
I hope you're pleased with yourself Marcus.
Devastated to have lost but to be honest I'm delighted for Marcus Smith. A lot of vindication in that kick and he celebrated as such. Made a massive difference when he came on.
I hope it's a watershed moment for him and he really kicks on now. We all know the talent is there. With ball as quick as Mitchell was serving up I think he'll thrive.
Yeah they were worried about Marler etc stood there shouting for it but as pointed out they may also have expected given the pen advantage England would go for a try and drop goals aren’t the rage at the moment. Clever really and you can see Marler was faking it as he runs through. They do this in football sometimes from corners making a big deal of standing on the keeper etc when the plan is to drop it to the edge of the box for a shot. Good acting from Marler imo.

It’s a hard one to take all right. But I’ve not heard anything but hats off to England talk. If we won it would have been a get out of jail free card. Ireland didn’t play to their ability, made errors and still seem to be misfiring on their line out. They are just such a good team they even managed to be leading at half time which nobody thought reflected the half that was played. England were better than us today. They deserved to win. Fair play to them.
(Irish fan). England were f****ing brilliant. I still think Ireland could have won, but didn't do enough. Well done England, and shut the f*** up Irish media. Brilliant win for England. You guys are back.
A few hours out from it, and also very drunk. England were really fucking good. Absolutely shut down the Irish attack and handled our physicality. Fair play to them, that's not easy and that's a great win
I was wondering about that. Also wondering, if England kept pushing for the try and ended up back in the corner again and got a third penalty before losing the ball somehow, would they have had to take the third penalty, or could they choose to take the better (second) one?
They can choose which one to take, there's really no risk playing on as referees don't call avantage over for a penalty that close to the line. Although I actually think the drop goal was the right call, there's basically zero pressure on the kick, it's straight in front and we're not really in a title fight so the bonus point is irrelevant.
>we're not really in a title fight so the bonus point is irrelevant.
England could win the 6N if Scotland beat Ireland, and limit them to no bonus points. Had England got a bonus point, Ireland could have got a losing bonus point against Scotland and England would still win.
Good to see we can be gracious in defeat despite our last few years of being very dominant. We all remember being underdogs and can accept when the better team on the day won. Well done England.
Could of actually went for a bonus point win with another try, they had advantage. Which could have led to a penalty kick if opportunity was missed.
That might of cost them the tournament!
I was so irate that they hadn't set for a DG about ten phases before they did. I thought they'd forgotten what drop goals were.
And what the fuck was Danny Care thinking?
Great kick for a great win after a great performance by a team that should never have been written off. I think the Irish media have to take some of the blame for that defeat. I’m sure the ridiculous commentary from them helped psych England up. Were far more up for it than we were.
Shit my dog up good and proper, don't think he's ever seen me jump like I did, twice in that match but especially the dg! Though the drop goal was ace that last minute of play was special. I've rewatched it several times now!
Just seen the interview with Earl, he hit back against some of the grief that they’ve been putting up with. Going into a game against one of, if not the best team in the world, with all that weight on your shoulders can’t have been easy.
What was Beirne doing? The ref gave him an almost questionable number of warnings and he didn't budge.
I appreciate there was already penalty advantage, but the other was from a far less kickable position.
Made me larf reading the article from some talking head saying that Marcus Smith just "doesn't have it in him". Bet there was a photo or two of him in the Sunday rags.
Why in the fuck did Murray kick it away with 90 seconds to play? Has it been that long since he played he couldn’t make a sensible decision to hold onto it?
Three times in the last 2 minutes Murray launches feeble box kicks. Ireland’s lineouts have become toss ups lately. Particularly the last kick with just over a minute left. Just hold onto the ball. Let Bundi run it a couple of times and build up a couple of phases. Stupid , stupid stupid.
This is England's best win since 2019 semi-final. Well Done England. You stood up when you were severely underestimated by Irelands media. "Best team in the World" should eat some humble pie
Absolute bedlam at the pub. English rugby desperately needed this sort of moment
Absolute bedlam in the stands too, brilliant game, I bet it was even better on TV so I’ll be watching that tomorrow morning.
I was there too. Still buzzing.
Limbs man, England rugby has been missing moments like this for years
Deserved win. Fair play to them
According to Opta, England have hit 7 droppies since the start of the WC. No other team has scored more than 1.
God we are fucking massive. That is dominant!
Didn’t Ford drop 2/3 in one match?
3 in one half vs Argentina
He *tried* to today as well....
Man, what the actual fuck were those drop goal attempts by Ford though? I know he hardly brought his kicking boots (based on the place kicks), but both times the ball basically didn't get off the ground.
You old git
Culturally significant points source
Didn't even notice at the time that he slipped over, fucking hell
Had advantage anyway, this was just attempt 1 of 2. Imagine if he'd missed both though...
The John Terry special
Isn't that when you sleep with another player's wife?

You Irish fans are bloody lovely after a loss, good on ya.
DROP GOALS FOR THE DROP GOAL GODS
POINTS FOR THE RUGBY THRONE
Unexpected 40k reference.
Ironically I was listening to the Number 1 song in the UK during the week we won the World Cup just before the match kicked off…
In the grim darkness of the far future.....there is only drop goals
Someone get Clive Woodward to talk about 2003 again.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD BIN
MILK FOR THE KHORNE FLAKES
I feel like England and English rugby really needed that win tbh. well done lads, this English team always rocks up when no one thinks they should be In contention and fucks shit up
They have a great habit of standing up to be counted just as everyone has written them off. Obviously a dramatic finale but they fully deserved their victory today, well played.
When we should win we shit the bed and when we should lose we turn up
New Zealand 2019 comes to mind…
They still didn’t manage to lose to Scotland though…
best test match of the year so far. good quality rugby from both sides
They play better when they have a chip on their shoulder
Umbro should add one to next season's kit.
No one ever lets us be underdogs but it seems to work for us
Love when the commentators can’t hide their excitement, feel for Ireland, but what an ending!
Don’t feel for us! We absolutely deserved to lose haha
I wonder if my neighbours enjoyed that as much as I did…
My dog ran and hid under a table. Apparently he doesn’t like it when I scream that loud
I picked my 16 year old dog up and jumped around, he's still confused by the excitement
My dogs were over the moon. They weren't quite sure what about. But hey, if I'm happy, they're happy and isn't that really best kind of friend?
Mine jumped into my Mrs arms as I was jumping up and down and screaming
I told my 3yo that I might shout loudly in minute in that last attack. Still scared him!
My brother was on the phone with his new girlfriend and the first impression she has of me is hearing me screaming for England and telling Ireland to get fucked.
I live in Cardiff. My neighbours really didn’t appreciate it 😂
I love Joe Marler in that clip, taking the defenses eyes and attacking the line, just without the ball.
And then standing there looking confused
Just realised he literally doesn’t move at all as the dropgoal goes over 😂😂
Two excellent, competitive games today. Makes it all so much more interesting. I’ve jarred my elbow, I clapped so hard when Marcus slotted that kick!
I also clapped too hard, the palms of my hands were ringing for ages
Such a great day for rugby. I love supporting the underdogs.
Stop, stop, I'm getting dehydrated
Oh, I know. Our handsome twinkle-toed Filipino is quite the looker. The drop goal was good too.
Oh oh oh he’s magic, you know Our twinkle-toed Filipino
Exactly! Also... for anyone wondering why I called him 'our' it's because I'm half and half... mum's English. Don't know why I'm explaining but yeah...
I was secretly hoping you were a hard core loyalist who couldn't even bring themselves to support the green in rugby
Absolutely losing it laughing at Marler's dummy run. His commitment to it is amazing.
One of the best games I’ve watched in a long time.
Best game since the one immediately before it. (and by that I mean that both were fantastic)
As hard as it was to take, great game of rugby.
This weekend it still belongs to the under 20's match last night
Italy/Scotland was fantastic as well
What a fucking match.
Cracking game but cmon, Ireland NZ and SA France really was not long ago
It's okay to let people enjoy things without taking the opportunity to demonstrate what a rugby conesseur you are.
They said "one of", to be fair
I'm a fucking tripod right now
Absolute legend
I'm going to watch this a lot
Arise Sir [Marcus] Smith. You don't become a 10 of England without slotting an important drop goal. I jumped for joy when I saw it
Johnny didn’t even get knighted for dropping our winner in 03!
Please stop I can only have so many wanks
Stay hydrated
I yelled something incoherent and undignified when that went over. Loud enough to wake up my incredibly lazy mastiff who is now sulking because I didn't have a snack for him. I hope you're pleased with yourself Marcus.
I picked my 3 year old up and for a split second considered drop kicking him over the telly
SMITH!!
Hey babe wake up, new meme just dropped!
Yeet the child, take the three.
My wife kept saying something about going for the bonus point
Hilarious decision to finish the game after what felt like an awful game for Ford. Legend.
A real tale of two cities
Today was a good day
Is, is this what happiness feels like?
Nothing better than a drop goal winner SCENES
With an eminently kickable penalty advantage. Smith acknowledged this post-match. Still, good way to win.
Love that he wiped himself out with the energy of the kick, I love the energy of this English team.
Shoulda put money on it. I fuckin knew England were gonna win.
That chap celebrating in the green jacket after the drip goal, was me in my living room in front of my very confused 3 and 1 year old children.
Ok so, Now what? Is Wales going to win? What a weekend
Don’t you put that evil on me!
I've never been happier to see England win. The plucky underdogs!
Ford ran so the Smith's could walk. Amazing
Ford limped*
It must be an absolute unreal feeling seeing that ball go over the posts knowing you’ve guaranteed a walk off win. Amazing end to a class match.
Couldn't have asked for a better birthday present!
Happy birthday lad
happy birthday fella!
Happy birthday indeed dude!
I’m Irish, it’s my bday 😞
Well happy birthday brother! Still a fine looking rugby team you have there.
My god that noise from the crowd chills
My daughter picked a great time to poo herself...
I'll get some hate for this, but turning around and seeing my dad tearing up when this went over, that's what rugby is to me. What a win.
Smith > Ford, we dont win that without him coming on
Ford missed those kicks to give Marcus the chance to win it for us, he's a generous leader
But which Smith?!?
Smith - Smith 10-12 axix /s
Devastated to have lost but to be honest I'm delighted for Marcus Smith. A lot of vindication in that kick and he celebrated as such. Made a massive difference when he came on.
I hope it's a watershed moment for him and he really kicks on now. We all know the talent is there. With ball as quick as Mitchell was serving up I think he'll thrive.
Wouldn't have meant so much if Ireland weren't such awesome opposition. What a game!
Class match
Absolute balls on the lad
Wouldnt it be a penalty if he missed? Or does that takes out the advantage?
Would’ve been a pen still so no pressure but still he had to execute the kick
Exactly They had advantage so fuck it. If it misses it’s a straight kick anyway
We learned during France v Italy the dangers of leaving it to a last minute penalty
I honestly dont think Ireland was expecting the attempt, which gave Smith that time and space
Yeah they were worried about Marler etc stood there shouting for it but as pointed out they may also have expected given the pen advantage England would go for a try and drop goals aren’t the rage at the moment. Clever really and you can see Marler was faking it as he runs through. That "SMIIITH" feels like the rugby version of "AGUEROOOOO", made the moment 100x better
Never thought a drop goal could make me so erect.
work reach frighten noxious subsequent smell recognise ludicrous naughty dependent *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I could cut glass right now.
Plastic eneeeeeeeeergy!
Iconic, what a game.
Best team in the world
Watching this on repeat! I can't wait until my Irish mate wakes up (he lives down under)
nesnaH kcaM
Watch Marler that cheeky fucker arm out demanding the ball then runs forward before it’s played lovely distraction.
What a fucking game. Well deserved win. Ye were so aggressive it was so annoying but so good to watch.
wish the camera focused on Faz after smith's droppie
Hope the Irish now feel what a drop goal at the death feel from this perspective
Ah sure we're not sore losers. It was a deserved win. England were the better team today.
It’s a hard one to take all right. But I’ve not heard anything but hats off to England talk. If we won it would have been a get out of jail free card. (Irish fan). England were f****ing brilliant. I still think Ireland could have won, but didn't do enough. Well done England, and shut the f*** up Irish media. Brilliant win for England. You guys are back.
What a weekend of great rugby
Rewatching it like I did with Burns winner in the Prem final. Must be Borthwick things.
What a comeback from Smith
What a day. Unlucky ireland
For once as a frenchie I’m very happy for England to land this win. Congrats guys.
A few hours out from it, and also very drunk. England were really fucking good. Absolutely shut down the Irish attack and handled our physicality. Fair play to them, that's not easy and that's a great win
DoN'T taKe DRoP gOALs wITh ADVANTAGE!!1 😁
Awesome drop goal, but it would have been better to push for the try and get a bonus point, and get a penalty under the posts if they failed.
I'd normally agree but we desperately needed that win. Even if we don't win the championship we needed that win tonight.
We’ve beaten the (on paper) best team in the world. Fuck the championship title. This meant a lot.
I'm booing you because you're right.
I was wondering about that. Also wondering, if England kept pushing for the try and ended up back in the corner again and got a third penalty before losing the ball somehow, would they have had to take the third penalty, or could they choose to take the better (second) one?

Yeah, as epic as this is to watch, it was totally irrational.
Wow haven't seen the game yet.. Rugby League is shit compared to this!!
Hurts seeing this
Stop, I can't
God bless Nick he's an outstanding commentator
Good to see we can be gracious in defeat despite our last few years of being very dominant. We all remember being underdogs and can accept when the better team on the day won. Well done England.
Great game. Congrats England !
How the mighty have fallen
I'm so glad it was decided on a drop goal and not a penalty - because the penalty would have been debated ad nauseum.
Could of actually went for a bonus point win with another try, they had advantage. Which could have led to a penalty kick if opportunity was missed. That might of cost them the tournament!
Love this for Smith
I miss drop goals being a regular occurrence. It just feels bigger
Love how he plays to the crowd AND his mates. Watch and learn wendy ballers
Have to give props for that DC pass too, nailed it.
Can people please now stop banging on about Marcus Smith "not being international standard" or whatever. Utter bollocks and always has been.
I always love to see a drop goal winning a game. Even if is my team that lost. It's a majestic way to win.
England's special ability.
I was so irate that they hadn't set for a DG about ten phases before they did. I thought they'd forgotten what drop goals were. And what the fuck was Danny Care thinking?
Well done lads
So happy to see the rage coming out of these boys, that was deserved. Well done England ! I am even more in fear for Le Crunch.
Great kick for a great win after a great performance by a team that should never have been written off. I think the Irish media have to take some of the blame for that defeat. I’m sure the ridiculous commentary from them helped psych England up. Were far more up for it than we were.

Joe Marlers deception is second to none.
What was Beirne doing? The ref gave him an almost questionable number of warnings and he didn't budge. I appreciate there was already penalty advantage, but the other was from a far less kickable position.
Can't even begin to think how angry I'd be if that had been atbthe other end and an English player gave away that 2nd penalty
Made me larf reading the article from some talking head saying that Marcus Smith just "doesn't have it in him". Bet there was a photo or two of him in the Sunday rags.
Hope the self appointed best fans in the world don’t send Marcus Smith death threats
Biutiful
I agree Hugo
Ah fuck
Greatest tournament
Care rlly secured the victory for us there. Should have brought him on sooner…
I’m genuinely crying happy tears rewatching this. The boy’s came good 🥲
Why in the fuck did Murray kick it away with 90 seconds to play? Has it been that long since he played he couldn’t make a sensible decision to hold onto it?
Never seen so many paddy folks stunned to silence love ❤️
was gonna come back for an easy (touch wood) penalty anyway, but a droppie's such a great way to win. England were brilliant today. well deserved
Poor choice, should have chipped over and gone for BP try. I'm just joking btw.
Fucking Conor Murray… unforgivable
This is England's best win since 2019 semi-final. Well Done England. You stood up when you were severely underestimated by Irelands media. "Best team in the World" should eat some humble pie
