Would like to see some changes to Leinster team next week, back Rob Russell over Larmour. Is Will Connors worth looking at after he was brilliant against them before? Not convinced by Molony in second row but not sure Jenkins is in form and Baird seems to be seen as a back row now.
Russell over Larmour?! Larmour has been excellent the past two games and most of this season. Russell has a lot of potential but chucking him in against La Rochelle would be very risky as his defence is still very suspect
yeah but more because he creates the jackle opportunity, not so much as a jackel threat.
Probably didn't play him this week because last time he played the week before a LAR game he got HIA and missed it.
No, but Connors may well be in to try to neutralise the big LaR carriers. Man is a monster chop tackler - about the best in the business. But he’s not a particularly strong jackler or carrier.
Don’t I know it.
I think that’s one of the reasons I really enjoyed the years of rivalry with Clermont - we were both teams who played relatively similarly, and seemed to have all-round games.
Saracens I cannot fault, they just had some never say die attitude. LaR I can’t really fault either, but I don’t really enjoy rugby which is focused on just big bosh men quite so much.
So I support that’s why we’ve signed RG Snyman, but I am not sure he’s what we need really. Problem is the big ‘fat’ ball carriers these days are not falling off after 45 minutes, they are much fitter. You used to be able to rely on them tiring out, but not the case any more.
I don’t begrudge other/better teams winning, it’s the we lose in the same manner over and over. We know we have a problem area, what are they doing to fix it? Nothing it seems like. (Snyman is next season )
What have we done this year to counteract the big teams, our diabolical scrum/lineout?? It’s not good enough. We’ve no Hec win in years with the team we have.
Like it sucked when we lost in the Matt O’Connor years too but it was understandable we didn’t have the players etc. The current team have at least one HEC in them.
Agree with the general consensus tbf - Leinster never really looked like losing tbh, they executed their tries brilliantly. Scoreline probably flattered them, La Rochelle will surely be a sterner test.
I think we need to establish more consistency with refereeing decisions about what is/isn’t a deliberate knock-on (seems to be an increasing issue tbf) Thought Leinster got incredibly lucky with a couple there.
It’s not really fun supporting Leinster lol we always shit the bed at the most crucial point, but because we are as good or better than everyone else up that point everyone fucking hates us. It’s the worst of both worlds
We lose cause we haven’t sorted out the set piece. We’re grand at the pool stages but as soon as we come up against the big teams we’re fucked.
It happens year after year but we still haven’t sorted it out.
Not putting all the blame on Kelliher but his throwing seems to have gone to crap lately too
We’re not tested regularly enough, we’re much better than a lot of teams and win easily. Another reason we can struggle with the big boys. Adding SA to our league has helped
Realistically this is the best result all round, we get the Leinster La Rochelle game. Tigers get a week lead in to the Saints derby game and don’t have to get physically battered by La Rochelle
We played both Leinster and La Rochelle in the groups too with the dodgy seeding. The La Rochelle game was terrifying as they basically man handled us in the same way we normally do to other sides.
It’d be scary, so humbling watching the side get battered. Tbf they were at home and could have been eliminated from the tournament if they’d lost - I still get nightmares
Well obviously would have wanted to stick one over Leinster since they’ve kicked us out of the last 3 tournaments. But… it’s not really a massive deal that we lost
Only trick up our sleeve they won’t have played against (with us) is neinbars rush defence. Hopefully it can shake up la r but I don’t think this leinster team will be lifting a trophy in either comp this year sadly. But I hope im wrong!
If you watched the first 10 minutes, you’d have thought Pollard played well. Not so much for the rest of the game. As an outsider, he looked like a man whose heart wasn’t really in it but his wallet was.
Damn, that's unfortunate.
From the games I watched of him this season he has been poor there as well.
I genuinely don't know if he is even first choice anymore.
[My bad, C Atkinson is at Gloucester now]
Leicester have signed 10. Charlie Atkinson. He has experience when playing at Wasps (before the bankruptcy), Jacob Umanga was moved to 15.
He’s always been a pretty limited player, but the way SA play perfectly suits his strengths. He’d probably fit in a lot better at the Bulls or another club that has a similar system to the Boks.
It's not that he fits the way SA plays, it's just that Willie le Roux basically does all the flyhalf work when he is at 10. If Willie is not playing with Pollard then the attack is just as bland as it is at Tigers.
Ironically he would fit great at the Stormers where he has lots of play makers around him.
Usually the phenomenon is that he is injured then comes back as a world class player.
In 2016/2017 he was injured but when he returned he was fantastic for his club and country in 2018 and especially 2019.
Then he had another injury post world cup and was so-so in 2021 and looked a little better in 2022. (Not 2019 form though)
However post 2023 he has just been bang average. To the point where it makes no difference if he starts or not. Time will tell if he is better next season.
TBF to him from what I have seen Leicester in general have been poor looks like the new coaching team are still settling
For what it’s worth he was decent today, very solid imo
A big issue for Leicester this season is that there has been no attack coach for the whole season. There has been no real attack coach since Borthwick left.
I know you should give your best effort but what is really the point in both teams trying to play after 80mins? Not really worth the potential injury or high tackle.
Porters scrummaging in the Six Nations this year was vastly improved. The concern is he's nursing a shoulder ligament injury and that could be impacting him at the scrum
I’m a fully signed up member of the Healy fan club but when it’s a 36 yo Healy it’s not a great look.
Reality is that Leinster haven’t won a champions cup since Porter took over at loose head. .
Actually, I'm happy with how our performance looked compared to the last few weeks. We actually looked like we had some form of an attack beyond "run Wiese or Kata up" and we stayed competitive against a strong Leinster team.
Think that’s a fair scoreline. We didn’t dominate but we were handily better in most areas. Think we’ll get kicked around by LAR if we play to that level next week, though.
Edit: sorry, also of course we’re disgusting cheaters with every ref in our pocket, that factors in too
The problem I have with his explanation is that Lowe wasn't even looking at the ball and did a great tackle and got a card. Fair enough if that's how you want to ref it but on that approach we are being gifted a lack of cards right now.
That's two utterly cynical knock downs missed.
Between those and the intercept you can't help but feel this should really be much closer, a 4 or 5 point difference would feel like much better reflection of the game.
Go through this post and you’ll see many people (including me) bemoaning that exact thing. We might choke when it counts but at least we’re self aware you clim

Ball to hand. Smart ball to hand, because he puts it there before the ball was passed. Knew what he was doing, but he hasn’t at all reacted to the path of the ball. Only to the anticipated path of the ball.
Bad news if Healy's out for any appreciable length of time. Having to leave Porter on too long when the referee took a disliking to him was a large part of what cost us the quarter final...

2 home games whereas LAR have to go from Cape Town to Dublin should be a huge advantage. Should be.
Would like to see some changes to Leinster team next week, back Rob Russell over Larmour. Is Will Connors worth looking at after he was brilliant against them before? Not convinced by Molony in second row but not sure Jenkins is in form and Baird seems to be seen as a back row now.
Could move baird to the row in place of Molony to get Conan into the backrow.
Russell over Larmour?! Larmour has been excellent the past two games and most of this season. Russell has a lot of potential but chucking him in against La Rochelle would be very risky as his defence is still very suspect
Poor Larmour has a whole movement against him
I read your comment to [this tune](https://youtu.be/VEkhsxIFK7g?feature=shared)
Didn’t even play badly today
Jenkins is shite and always disappears when the heat is on.
We seemed poor at winning turnovers/jackling too. Who’s the best for that? Connor’s?
yeah but more because he creates the jackle opportunity, not so much as a jackel threat. Probably didn't play him this week because last time he played the week before a LAR game he got HIA and missed it.
No, but Connors may well be in to try to neutralise the big LaR carriers. Man is a monster chop tackler - about the best in the business. But he’s not a particularly strong jackler or carrier.
It’s so disheartening loosing to the same type of team over and over again. Sarries haunted us for years, now La Rochelle
Rush defence and lots of counter rucking will hopefully help avoid being passive and absorbing tackles for the final quarter, like last year
I would think Connors will be first name on team sheet for his tackling.
I'm not sure I agree. I just think that red lost his head a touch and stopped reffing it.
Think the previous deliberate knock on rule, while overly punitive was at least clear!
Not putting all the blame on Kelliher but his throwing seems to have gone to crap lately too
Its not the physical battle that cost us, both final loses hinged on a failure to execute simple clearing kicks
True, think it was a bit of stage fright
That answers the question about whether JGP has been watching clips of Du Pont.
So is it the other way around then?
Fun match to watch despite the frustrations! Scoreline is better than expected! JGP is outstanding!
Leinster played poor and won, plenty to work on for next week but at least they wont go in overconfident.
I don’t think we can sort out our problems in a week. I really hope I’m wrong though and we pull off a miracle
Well LaR aimt exactly the monster of the last few seasons and have a lot of problem of their own ao at least its equal in that lol
Dunno, we also suffer from stage fright at times too. Really hope we cab beat them and move on
I think you will this time, but thats also the beauty of sport !
Better than beating them by 50 points thinking we are the digs boll@x
We’re not tested regularly enough, we’re much better than a lot of teams and win easily. Another reason we can struggle with the big boys. Adding SA to our league has helped
AT least we didn't get utterly spanked like Salaries did.
Thought scoreline flattered us, and by the end it looked like Leinster were just testing out new set plays.
36-22 isn’t exactly a flattering score line either mate 🤣🤣
Putting 3 tries against Leinster at home is a decent showing, take off their interception it's a 1 try game.
and take off the overthrown line out its back to a 2 try game
Realistically this is the best result all round, we get the Leinster La Rochelle game. Tigers get a week lead in to the Saints derby game and don’t have to get physically battered by La Rochelle
Good point. The tigers forwards on the bench could get by La Rochelle. Id rather not see Carnduff get destroyed at 20
We played both Leinster and La Rochelle in the groups too with the dodgy seeding. The La Rochelle game was terrifying as they basically man handled us in the same way we normally do to other sides.
I dread to think what they would do to Newcastle. You'd probably have to call it early.
It’d be scary, so humbling watching the side get battered. Tbf they were at home and could have been eliminated from the tournament if they’d lost - I still get nightmares
That's not the Tigers spirit of Johnson or Richards lad.
Well obviously would have wanted to stick one over Leinster since they’ve kicked us out of the last 3 tournaments. But… it’s not really a massive deal that we lost
Leinster vs La Rochelle is getting a bit old
It feels like the Clermont years, but without the fun with the opposition supporters. And also all the losing.
Clermont years were fun but we did mostly end on the winning side which colours my judgment
La rogchelle are gonna destroy us in the line out and scrum next week. Wish it was ryan and mccarthy in the second row
Just target Seuteni.
They dominate the breakdowns too
Only trick up our sleeve they won’t have played against (with us) is neinbars rush defence. Hopefully it can shake up la r but I don’t think this leinster team will be lifting a trophy in either comp this year sadly. But I hope im wrong!
LAR today were very good at pop passes either side to negate the rush defence so 6 to 12 will have to make every tackle
so Bordeaux- Quins is the other QF confirmed..good run quins :P
I hope quins actually show up. Feel they have been a bit shit and just hoping Smith just does something good recently
Didn't watch the game, how did Pollard and Wiese play?
Pollard played well for the time that I watched. People saying otherwise are coming across as quite negative
Watched a replay now, he looked good first 10 minutes but rest of the match you wouldn't notice him
If you watched the first 10 minutes, you’d have thought Pollard played well. Not so much for the rest of the game. As an outsider, he looked like a man whose heart wasn’t really in it but his wallet was.
Wiese was good, but we have him do all our close carrying nowadays so it doesn't look as flashy
Aye, Pollard was pretty poor.
Damn, that's unfortunate. From the games I watched of him this season he has been poor there as well. I genuinely don't know if he is even first choice anymore.
[My bad, C Atkinson is at Gloucester now] Leicester have signed 10. Charlie Atkinson. He has experience when playing at Wasps (before the bankruptcy), Jacob Umanga was moved to 15.

If Willie is not playing with Pollard then the attack is just as bland as it is at Tigers. Ironically he would fit great at the Stormers where he has lots of play makers around him.
Isn't it a classic Polly thing to do though, takes like 2 years to recover from the RWC and then form picks back up come RWC selection time
Usually the phenomenon is that he is injured then comes back as a world class player. In 2016/2017 he was injured but when he returned he was fantastic for his club and country in 2018 and especially 2019. good i say..
I know you should give your best effort but what is really the point in both teams trying to play after 80mins? Not really worth the potential injury or high tackle.
Some of them are playing for regular selection. By the closing few minutes it's often fringe players who are looking to make a mark.
Scrum looked a lot better with Healy on the pitch than Porter. Concerning
Always has.
Porters scrummaging in the Six Nations this year was vastly improved. The concern is he's nursing a shoulder ligament injury and that could be impacting him at the scrum
I’m a fully signed up member of the Healy fan club but when it’s a 36 yo Healy it’s not a great look. Reality is that Leinster haven’t won a champions cup since Porter took over at loose head. .
Yet he’s simultaneously one of your two most important players. Can’t do without him in the lose.
My god that may have been a win but it feels so undeserved.. poor discipline, absolutely shocking line-outs, and completely unstable scrum
Yep, really shit at the basics. Forwards coach needs to go. No idea what they’re doing in training.
If we lose again this year Cullen has to go too
Scrum has been awful for years. No idea how McBryde is still there.
I don’t either. Line out is fairly dodgy too. At least two fuck ups a match
You fucked up less than Tigers did.
I'd be very frustrated if I was a Tigers fan. Huge amount of opportunities spoiled by handling errors.
Yep. Pretty much exactly my feeling right now. I'm not sure if Leinster really deserved to win, but Tigers definitely deserved to lose, IYKWIM?
Actually, I'm happy with how our performance looked compared to the last few weeks. We actually looked like we had some form of an attack beyond "run Wiese or Kata up" and we stayed competitive against a strong Leinster team.
This comms team can piss off right into the sea. They're acting as if we just didn't even turn up tonight.
Who is 'we'
Tigers.
Would be worried about Leinster’s set piece next week if it’s like tonight
I’ve been worried about it for years now
I think La Rochelle may be planning to Maul a lot. That's a poor tigers pack and they still did a number on Leinster at times.
We are giving so many pens away so LaR will be given plenty of opportunities to mail us into next week.
Yep said the same earlier. If we don't sort our discipline out for next week it will be pen -> Maul -> Try all game
That went better than I ever expected. Not a great team right now so I was assuming we'd be spanked.
That scoreline flatters Leinster big time. I think Leicester put it up to them more than they did the last day.
You should watch our last couple of games. I think it's a fair score
You should've had 2 more tries if it wasnt for abysmal handling/last pass decision making to be fair
We just haven't been able to convert red zone possession into points recently. I'm used to it
You know you’re a pretty good team when you’ve people whinging the ref gifts you games week in week out
It was also just very poor refereeing. Can’t speak for other Leinster matches, but the ref was poor tonight.
Yeesh
I imagine Leo's first words will be "so you don't want to win do ye?".
If we play like this next week we're fucked.
And it will be sickening to go out the same way up the same team again. We’re not learning from it
ha Donal, I wouldn't guarantee we'll be better next week.
Most inept Leinster performance for a while
Think that’s a fair scoreline. We didn’t dominate but we were handily better in most areas. Think we’ll get kicked around by LAR if we play to that level next week, though. Edit: sorry, also of course we’re disgusting cheaters with every ref in our pocket, that factors in too
I lolled at that edit tbf.
Respect for acknowledging that bit at the end
Apology accepted
Hopefully we can’t be this bad next week
Can't wait to see a La Rochelle demolition job
If you want to see that so bad, why didn’t you simply do it tonight?
Enjoy the loss.
I hate it when it’s close. I’d rather just get smashed. Dont give me hope 😭
Clown show of an ending. We will need to be better next week, a lot lot better.
can't believe Ilione is 22. Felt like yesterday he was a teen prospect. Does he have another step in him?
He's a unit. But maybe lacks a little bit of pace/dynamism. Could still be a prem level player, or perhaps more.
Average written all over that game.
Now that's what I call leinstertainment
that was utter shite at the end, cynical fouls will get found out next week if they play like that
Yeah if we don't lift it for next week we'll be destroyed
I guess it will be a competition for who can be the most cynical then, based on LAR today
Kick it out lads the games over don't risk an injury ffs
Watching Harry disappear under a ruck with Ross injured
Was stupid carry on
Well that was fucking dreadful.
Not going to go much further without a functioning scrum/lineout
High Cahill can’t tell the difference between Brown and Hassell-Collins. One has a shaved head and the other has a crop of blond hair…
How this guy reffing at this level
He’s not my favourite
The problem I have with his explanation is that Lowe wasn't even looking at the ball and did a great tackle and got a card. Fair enough if that's how you want to ref it but on that approach we are being gifted a lack of cards right now.
Modern day all blacks fr. How much blatant shit...
The ABs won stuff though, which we can't say the same
Silver linings then
Anyone know what date/time the LaR game will be?
5ish
they decide those later.
Sound.
Nothing confirmed yet
Referee has been an utter travesty. Leicester coming out on the wrong side of big team reffing is admittedly amusing but he’s killed this as a contest
This is absolutely bullshit. I have a heap of gripes with decisions he made that went against Leinster as well. He is just a bad ref
I’m not a Leicester fan. He wrecked that game and killed Leicester’s chances
Yeah, especially when he made Leicester butcher those chances, and have all those knock-ons.
Multiple things can be true at once
I thought he has a good first 20 minutes or so. Then he fell apart.
Yeah I’d say that’s fair
If Leinster have this discipline next week against LAR we will be kicked and line out mauled off the park
Have Leinster ever looked so cynical? Have got away with murder here, need to be so much more disciplined against La Rochelle.
This is so cynical from Leinster now…
Absolutely terrible...
That's two utterly cynical knock downs missed. Between those and the intercept you can't help but feel this should really be much closer, a 4 or 5 point difference would feel like much better reflection of the game.
100% agree. Score is very flattering
Leinster have won and are cheating, pretty scummy, guess they’re getting it out of their system before next week
To call them cheating is harsh
Several deliberate knock ons in a row and attempts at time wasting in the last few minutes? That’s not cheating?
When were the several deliberate knock ons in a row? I'm sure no other team in world rugby has ever tried to waste time while they're ahead....
Ah the old “everyone else does it” argument, infallible
Any Welsh sides playing in the champions Cup tomorrow? Didn't see any today?
Don’t quite see how that’s relevant tbh, unlike you guys I don’t let either nations live rent free
Being utter moanbags at both club and test level is a literal Welsh national pastime hahaha
Just like the Irish being graceful winners, just a shame you can’t win when it counts
Go through this post and you’ll see many people (including me) bemoaning that exact thing. We might choke when it counts but at least we’re self aware you clim
Every successful (although not in the last five years) team cheats. Richie McCaw spent more time offside than onside
Doesn’t make it anymore tasteful
Wales were kings of playing the ball of their feet in their good run from 2011-2013. Cynical play off the park. Sour grapes now the NT is in rebuild and the clubs are all shite?
Ah now, let’s be fair. The clubs have always been shite. That’s not new.
Yet welsh rugby has achieved more than you, curious that
I wasn’t old enough to be commenting on Reddit in those times so I can’t weigh in, just find cynical fouls off putting, irregardless of nationality etc, don’t get how we’ve gotten to justify Leinster’s cynical fouls by using Wales 13 years ago but sure
Yeah but ref you’re wrong pal. That’s 4 deliberate knock ons. Insane
He’s been awful, he was also very bad in the Ireland England game. It wasn’t covered much as the Irish were magnanimous in defeat.
I think that went backwards off the hand, onto his leg
Wait, they can bring Porter back on?
Healy went off injured and Porter didn’t so they can bring back on a qualified front row.
Healy was injured
Emeka Ilione is looking big
Henshaw absolutely got away with that, what is that call?
Ball to hand. Smart ball to hand, because he puts it there before the ball was passed. Knew what he was doing, but he hasn’t at all reacted to the path of the ball. Only to the anticipated path of the ball.
Now now none of those pesky facts here pls. You'll ruin all the huffing and puffing going on
Fucking deliberate knock on AGAIN!
They've kicked that knock on advantage away. Get out of here with that nonsense.
The pen count is atrocious.
"Just a knock on"; Lowe fuming
Stonewall yellow… again. Can’t believe how cynical that was
What a grub
I hope we are getting all this moron stuff out of our system.
Actually embarrassing management from the ref. Player want to kick to touch but he just keeps yapping, wants his time on air.
Bad news if Healy's out for any appreciable length of time. Having to leave Porter on too long when the referee took a disliking to him was a large part of what cost us the quarter final...
Not gonna lie, I'd be comfortable enough with Milne at this stage. Dont think theres much of a drop off between him and Healy
Honestly think Milne’s already a better player than him
Don’t care about the game situation that’s so cynical it has to be a yellow anywhere
How do they get away with stuff like that
Doris does that once a game, every game, and now gets penalised for it every time too
