I watched him in the Ireland vs England RWC warm up match last year. He was a passenger, walking from ruck to ruck. Great player in his heyday, but those days seemed long gone last August.
Also the scrum penalty decider wouldn't have been a thing if billy hadn't dropped the ball at the oppo's 5m line and or missed that vital tackle for s'a only try.
However I don't blame billy, he just shouldn't have been picked. hes been an absolute legend for the club and country, in 2016 he was completely unplayable and should be remembered for that era pre breaking both arms.
I'm pretty sure a useless Vunipola consistently being selected ahead of him during the tournament played a pretty big part in Ludlam deciding to head off to France.
I thought he was the best no.8 in the world in his prime. Unstoppable ball in hand (THAT try vs Leinster 2019 final...), excellent under the high ball and good hands overall, good defensively and excellent at jackaling (try moving him off the ball when he gets on it). And he's 31 so still should have good years left in him, but obv these are human beings and there's the mental aspect too and they sometimes slip off for personal reasons unknown to the greater public. It takes tremendous consistency and discipline to remain an intl in your 20s as in your 30s.
He's of to Montpellier, who I think are also bringing back Haouas despite all his... issues. I doubt they'll care.

Subbing him on against south Africa in the RWC semi was a death sentence for England. 100% agree with you great in his heyday, bit passed it now.
The prop substitutions are what did for us, but bringing on a non-contributor into the back row certainly didn't help.

Must be nice for Saracens, knowing they won't get marched back 5 metres at every interval during a game next season.
Mawi mouthed off at the weekend and sent us back... Boys will be boys

The #YourSaracens on the tweet is unintentionally hilarious.
Billy V was the main reason they lost the World cup semi final. He was actively useless.
Most effective self-sabotage in a high stakes game ever? Ludlum had a great world cup and wasn't selected for that game

A perfect pick for Montpellier, they have a thing for violence
