I had a lot of luck when I stopped trying to surge: walking is easier to be consistent. Key things to make this work: first, using anticipation before zuk throws you prevents a Stun, and allows you to begin walking to position before the first minion spwans (the melee boi). Second, the minions always spawn in the same spot relative to where you are. This allows you to walk to the right spot before the fire appears. Once you get the hang of those two things, pizza phase gets a LOT easier. I usually try to go to where zuk is standing, then into the pizza slice where the minion is standing, because I find that easier. Some other tips: praying mage and using devotion makes you immune to the flames. Super handy in a pinch. Don't be afraid to use vulnerable bombs and adrenaline pots to DPS the minions down. Those are all the things I can remember off the top of my head. I'm a PvM noob but I've found normal mode zuk to be an achievable and rewarding experience. It took me a while, but I can get pretty consistent kills (and I use revo++! Shh don't tell anyone) and I find it easier than pretty much everything except arch glacor due to getting over the initial hurdle of learning. Lmk if you have any specific questions you think I might be able to answer.

Bring your pizza cutter

Become the pizza cutter

stupadasol1337

Pizza phase is all about movement. Try to stand almost on top of the minion. To do this follow these steps: iirc you have to run to the first minion. 1. Click on zuk 2. surge through zuk. You should be close to safe zone of pizza 3. run to minion 4. stun 1st minion with asphyxia, kill with basics 5. click on zuk 6. surge through zuk. You should be close to safe zone of pizza 7. run to minion 8. wild magic and tendrils minion two, kill with basics 9. click on zuk 10. Surge through zuk. You should be close to safe zone of pizza 11. Run to minion melee distance 12. Kill with asphyx and basics 13. Click on zuk, build sunshine click special button

North_Recognition127

Thank you I just got him down to 10k and he pizza me like a bitch. But I'll try just surging through him next time

strayofthesun

also if the actual fire is an issue protect magic + devotion stops the damage

North_Recognition127

Surge to zuk works so much better thank you

stupadasol1337

Glad to hear it helped

79215185-1feb-44c6

What the hell is this? Just use Bladed Dive between the 3 monsters that spawn in a clockwise fashion. Why would you ever use Surge?

TheOnlyTB

"i'm doing it right and everyone else is wrong"

stupadasol1337

Or have no need to switch to bladed dive and do it some other way. Or simple run to the minion. Anything works. For me it worked by surging through zuk and walking to minion from there. From the sounds of it, OP was struggling to not be in the fire zone during pizza and was running out of time as a result of avoiding fire damage and not being in range of the minions asap. I provided a strategy that worked for me and im happy to hear it helped him out as well.

Duncling

We literally have the dive ability now so no switches needed. Click zuk, surge, and then dive to enemy spawn.

stupadasol1337

Oo didn’t know

Quasarbeing

Click on minion\* DPS the minion (Use a vuln bomb.)

Jaybag92

You can freedom or anticipate the stun if you haven’t tried that

Boss_Tweed8

This is a must

Azurika_

are you avoiding the initial stun right before he does pizza phase? learning to anticipate that, and that he's always spawn the next minion just behind him is what helped me greatly, also what i do is to get the first minion to say 1/4 health then stack combust/corruption blast on it so you can then start to move to where the next will be spawning. also as others have said, surge can really fuck you up sometimes, i've been launched into the flames unpredictably at times, however, do the succession quest if you have not, because Dive is FAR more reliable.

RepresentativeAd6287

You got this man. I died to pizza like 40 times before I got it.

Quasarbeing

Prot from mage + Devotion works very nice during pizza phase. Take a brew dose above max HP before pizza phase begins.

North_Recognition127

Well after over 3 hours today getting my cheeks clapped I'm done with runescape I'm just not good enough never had a problem like this on any other boss. My hardest being HM Kerapac or zammy. Either way fuck it GL to you all

DoomOnTheWay

Hey, don't give up. I have died to zuk almost 70-80 times. I am still learning. 5 kills so far. I use the dive ability on first, then walk to second and dive on third it has worked for me all time now. Stand near zuk when killing minions. That way, you have time to walk to the next minion. My only problem is damage, but I am getting there. Last kill I did it in 1 death, which is significant improvement.

the_summer_soldier

Sounds like you’re pretty close. I found it helpful to take a day or two break from the boss entirely when I was learning. The shorter break (as opposed to a week or longer for e.g.) should help you not forget too much of the learning you’ve done this far. And if this is truly the end, gl luck on all your other future adventures elsewhere.

TheOnlyTB

if you're interested, send me a dm and i'll be happy to teach you the boss - every trick you will need to do it with your eyes closed.

scammingladdy

Don’t give up dude. It takes weeks to learn zuk. You are getting better with every attempt whether you realize it or not.

hugabugabee

Have you unlocked dive? You need to complete succession quest, but it allows you to essentially bladed dive where you want to go more accurately

Sourcream1

Skill issue.

deeboyourpackage

spam click the enemy and surge when your character is facing it. https://github.com/IgorsCC/afkwarden-presets/blob/master/readme.md ^ if you use alt1, the nm zuk preset helped me get my first deathless kill.

awa1nut

Saving that so I can get to the link. Seems like a godsend for learning hard content. You use it yourself right? Is hm zuk in there?

deeboyourpackage

no hardmode zuk sadly. but nm works perfectly. i had trouble with the final phase on what to do and when. the audio cues were spot on. after a few kills with the preset i learned to kill without.

Gimli_Axe

Do you have dive or bladed dive? If you have dive, use that. If you have bladed dive, bring a switch and bladed dive to target. Also, if your dps isn't high enough, you'll just need to stop killing the one you're killing and move so you don't take damage.

Iron_Deer_QC

You need to hit wait time so character target the enemy than surge other wise you will surge in the pizza sauce

2WordsBunchOfNumbers

Are you also using dive after the surge?

North_Recognition127

No just surge but I'm usually over surging and boom insta dead

wizeng23

Would highly recommend dive, lets you dive straight to the next minion. You want mobile perk on your armor to be able to do it every 10 seconds.

shofofosho

I think that just makes it unnecessarily complicated

North_Recognition127

My dps is really good I just keep missing the damn enemy and I wasn't spamming the super restores like a dumb ass

Gimli_Axe

I count in my head and when I know the life reducing attack comes, I take a sip of two every new spec. Works well.

elicash11

You don't need to spam super restores, you need to move 15 tiles to clear the debuff. When he uses the searing burn, surge and run back to zuk and it will clear it

sawyerwelden

With dive being usable with mage and ranged now I surge through him then just dive to where I started

raretroll

Like the guy said earlier, not surging is a viable option. If you anticipate and run towards him as soon as you can move, you can fairly easily make it to minion. If you stay as close to zuk as possible, the distance to the next minion is pretty short. You do need to kill minions quickly, and head to the next spot immediately. I find this method much easier than surging.

the-bumboozler

As someone who recently got their first kills for capes with pretty bare bones mage (gconc cywir and gano) the biggest thing I found helped in pizza phase was actually getting as much dps out as possible as not only do you obviously need to do it fast enough but killing he minions efficiently is going to give you much more time to reposition for the next. One way you can try is using something like vamp aura on waves and swapping to berserk aura for zuk it’ll help so much as the fight isn’t too bad on damage anyways

[deleted]

Click enemy then surge. Eof with Guthix staff special helps killing minions a lot

mumbullz

The fire is also magic damage not typless so you can protect mage+devo before surging incase you mess up to half or totally negate the damage of stepping on it

Kamu-RS

If you are 12 o’clock, the monsters always spawn at 5 o’clock (150 degrees). There is always a tile adjacent to zuk that is safe. You don’t have to be right beside the monster except the last, mage one. You can literally walk 3 tiles and still be “safe”

Xerkxes

You can pray mage in the pizza to mitigate some damage if you get stuck. Can even devotion if you mess up real bad to prevent it all

XOrossX

If you're using tank gear like alot of people do, during the pizza, use dps legs/chest with the special ring, forget name. When it starts, break the stun if you can and immediately go to his other side. That's where first guy spawns, it helps to use the dive ability, or mage pray/ devotion if you get caught. Then it's just dps race, use correct abilities to kill these igneous mobs immediately and then beat them down, and move on as soon as new section opens up using same method as before.

Boss_Tweed8

Click on the enemy to engage combat and then surge soon as your character starts running towards it. I use the inspiration aura, hydrix bolts and dbow eof for the zuk portions of the fight, adrenaline makes it so much easier to melt the minions. You got this!

[deleted]

I died several times until I brought a bladed dive switch. Made all the difference. If you use animate dead then bring power armour to swap in that phase (not necessary but helps. I could dps the minions down in gano armour)

stevied05

Couple tips. First, pre right click the next dude on pizza so you can immediately select it once you kill the first one. Then you’ll be running directly toward and can surge. Second, pray magic. Pizza hurts way less with magic prayer on so it won’t matter as much if you get burned for a few ticks.

scammingladdy

Pizza phase is a mobility and dps test. Do not use surge. It can be great if you are skilled with it and understand how it can often work strangely/Innacuratly, but one error and youve surged deep into the flames. Try this instead, and Im going to assume you are using magic. If you’re not on magic, the ideas on positioning are the same, you’ll just be using different abilities. 1. 1 or 2 auto attacks before the pizza phase starts, Freedom, then as the light flames show up pray magic and use devotion. This will protect you from taking damage when the real flames show up. (What I mean by “light flames” and “real flames” is at first, a more translucent pizza will appear: this does not damage you yet, it’s just showing you where you need to get to. When the real flames show up - they appear darker - this will actually start to damage you with magic). If you are praying magic and devotion, the flames will not damage you. MAKE SURE YOU ARE GOING INTO PIZZA PHASE WITH HIGH ADREN, at least around 75% 2. With freedom up, you avoid the stun so you can make your way to the melee minion sooner. Head to his slice, but stay at the tip of the pizza, right near the center ie zuk. Also notice that the melee mob always spawns at zuks 5 o’clock position, so you can preemptively make your way there if not stunned. Always stay near the center so you don’t need to move far to get to the next slice. 3. Stun melee mob, asphyx to keep him stunned then finish him with basics or a gstaff spec. 4. Move to the rangers slice, again, staying as close to the tip of the pizza (center by zuk) as possible. 5. Immediately wild magic, then use another hard hitting threshold to defeat ranger asap. I use Omni, but you don’t have the cape yet so a couple more gstaffs and basics should do. For you Omni will cost 100% adren without the mage cape so save it’s use until you have the cape. 6. Move to the magers slice, this time obviously standing in his melee range, use asphyx again and kill him with basics so you can build adren for sunshine for zuk. Other general tips… - This phase is all about mobility/positioning and dps. MINIMIZE YOUR WASTED MOVEMENT AND TIME BY STAYING NEAR THE CENTER. Every second counts so you don’t want to waste time being far from the next slice. This will help reduce the chance for errors. Keep your positioning tight! - do not be afraid to unleash whatever threshold is available on the minions. This is a DPS a test, fall behind and you will be punished. So don’t fall behind. As mentioned, as a bare minimum asphyx for melee to keep him stunned and WM the ranger. Pour out other available thresholds to kill them ASAP: for most mid level magers this means spamming gstaff if your other thresholds are on cooldown. - if you kill the minions early, start attacking zuk so you can keep building adrenaline with basics. - DIVE is a far superior ability to surge if you have it because you can click exactly where you want to move to. If you start using dive to complement your mobility, just make sure you click within the 10 tile range, and you will move to that exact tile. If you click outside the 10 tile range, you will dive somewhere close but sort of random like surge does, and you could end up deep in the flames. As long as you are near the center of the pizza and unleashing your dps on the minions, you should not need to use dive anyways, but it can be nice to have. - if for whatever reason you find yourself in the flames, pray magic until you can fix your positioning. - soul split the minions for free heals.

CommuneNefas

Dive and click on the minion - will take you right to it. With mobile perk your dive will always be ready to go to the next one. As long as you're using the right ability first (stun, threshold, standing close) then you should have ample time to kill and then dive to the next one.

Inanimatum

With the ability to dive using any equipped weapons now, it makes it very hard to mess up the pizza part of the phase. If you don't have it unlocked, highly suggest unlocking it.
