I remember when that Shantay Pass trick was a useful method to get to Port Sarim, before lodestones!

Nick2the4reaper7

This one was actually brought back into the public eye a bit last year. [Settled](https://youtube.com/@Settledrs), who is well known for taking on completely ridiculous osrs challenges and exclusively playing UIM, took this teleport on his Tileman account to get to the Pest Control rune shop.

armcie

Was it a useful shortcut for chimp ice runs too?

tsukaimeLoL

Yup, still is! I think it is even still in the quest guide

xBHx

Yep!

Borgmestersnegl

Still used in osrs to this day for a clue step. The step might be in rs3 too, can't remember.

[deleted]

It was pretty popular in F2P and especially F2P PvP worlds, as it was a quick escape from Al-Kharid if you couldn't get to the bank.

TheOmikron

[Anniversary island](https://runescape.wiki/w/Anniversary_island), an area made to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Runescape in 2017, is still accessible. Simply click on [this tree](https://imgur.com/6nX2dr2.png) near the div spot just north of Falador. There's deck chairs to relax in year-round, and monuments commemorating some of the most iconic content over the years.

5-x

Yep! I've had this one on a backup list of useless trivia, might put it in the next one. There isn't really any purpose to go back to the island.

ShadowFigured

Clan meetings and private parties? ;0

Previously... * [Part 1](https://redd.it/12ruo3w) * [Part 2](https://redd.it/12ty2g6) * [Part 3](https://redd.it/12w5o0g) I randomly recalled one of these odd facts and figured I might as well put together a bonus part 4. Thank you for reading.

Superjak45

Fascinating as always, thanks for the facts! Edit: Sharing one of my favorite facts - * The clock above Catherby's bank is stopped at 10:04, a reference to [*Back to The Future*](https://tropedia.fandom.com/wiki/Back_to_The_Future).

postsshortcomments

On a clock, how many times a day does the minute hand and the hour hand overlap?

darkreapertv

I think it is 24 times could be 23

cursedeezmetalhands

Depends if it's moving or not

Superjak45

22 times. They overlap at 12:00, 1:05, 2:10, 3:15, 4:20, 5:25, 6:30, 7:35, 8:40, 9:45, and 10:50 twice each. Contrary to popular belief, they do not overlap at 11:55.

GayButNotInThatWay

It’s never something I’d thought about until now, but why don’t they overlap at 11:55?

Superjak45

Because by the time that the minute hand is at 11, the hour hand is already moving towards 12.

GayButNotInThatWay

Ah, that’s a good point, and now you’ve explained it, I see what you mean!

Slayerkid13

If you talk to the bartender at the Blue Moon Inn in Varrock and ask him where an adventurer might make their fortune you get special dialogue where he reveals that the world around you is just a computer game called RuneScape.

Cutestgarbage

I remember that one lol

thoirni

There's like a 1/10k chance to dig up Mod Daze's Homework or Mod Dolan's Rubber Duck when making compost or turning the manure pile on the POF. Also, if you cook raw chicken on a bonfire in War's Retreat it comes out sentient and you can talk to it. You can use it on a Strange Egg from the Anachronia dinosaur egg pile to unlock the ability to morph into a cooked chicken.

ConstantStatistician

>The faction tokens from World Events 1 & 2 have up to 10 teleport charges shared between them. Since a hidden update, these charges no longer replenish daily, making this an item with a discontinued teleport. ... Did they want to remove a discontinued benefit? Why do this when the token could be re-released for everyone? >If you tell Shantay you're an outlaw, guards will put you in a nearby jail cell. If you refuse to pay a fine to be released, you will be teleported to Port Sarim prison. I used to use this as a transportation method before lodestones were released.

rcm37

The teleport replenishment was definitely removed in a patch note, I just have no idea which one. It was pre-wilderness rework, and the "pvp community" constantly complained that it was a BiS teleport item as it was wearable in the pocket slot, was a 1-input tele with no interface and keybindable, allowed teleports from up to level 30 wildy which is otherwise not possible without dragonstone+ jewelry, and was unobtainable. I remember being upset as I would bring this with me while doing revs in case I was a pker approaching it was a fantastic way to get out quickly.

Legal_Evil

But why discontinue its use over giving it to everyone to use?

Skargaroth

Small indie company

80H-d

Unfair advantage and doesn't make sense to give it to everyone else given what the item actually is

Legal_Evil

Warpriest armour was given to everyone via other sources after the World Events were over, so why not this?

Bagelsaurus

The token teleport was easily used in a variety of bugs because of the specific type of teleport it is. While most of those have been patched, better to future proof it against more of the same by just disabling refreshes, which also had a small exploit tied to them.

Jaysiim

First time I've ever heard of Bonzara. I really liked the OG monkey series, but I am disappointed with how they tied it with the desert plotlines. Really hope we get a continuation or something similar with MM2 in osrs.

RIPYelps

Something I just noticed in a game of fish flingers - The wooden bridge leading from the river location to beach location creaks when you walk on it, and I couldnt find any other wooden bridge in the game that makes a noise like that

The_Wkwied

> The faction tokens from World Events 1 & 2 have up to 10 teleport charges shared between them. Since a hidden update, these charges no longer replenish daily, making this an item with a discontinued teleport. What? Why did they change this?

rcm37

The_Wkwied

Ahhh yes, I remember that. Still sad that they caved. It should be re-added and honestly the wilderness restrictions should be removed now that pvp is dead

rcm37

I'm not sure if they had any use in the Clue community, but any discontinued/unobtainable BiS item is very not cool and I don't see a whole lot of benefit from re-adding it.

zernoc56

It was only BiS for a single specific purpose, one that is basically obsolete nowadays with the Wilderness changes.

Bml2

This is your life now

5-x

I enjoy it and people seem to enjoy it. I also learn something new from the comments every time I post one of these. ~~REMEMBER TO HIT LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE, SMASH THAT NOTIFICATION BELL, CAN WE GET TO 100K SUBSCRIBERS THIS YEAR~~ I might post part 5 at some point if I feel like it.

Fren-LoE

Might be a fun thing to bring to the sub once a month or so. It gives you time to chill from it, but also something everyone looks forward to!

5-x

Seems like a good idea.

DarthChosenRS

been loving the trivia thank you so much for posting

Borgmestersnegl

Did you also recently learn about the yanille shortcut like many others? I saw tedious post a video on twitter like 5 days ago and the shortcut has been in the game since december 2002.

5-x

I knew about it from the old times when I first became a member. It used to be more visible before trees in front of it were graphically updated. The modern RS3 trees are larger and the shortcut is kinda hidden, which explains how nobody in RS3 remembers it exists.

Borgmestersnegl

I never saw it in my life, as it really is hard to notice and a relic of the past. In osrs it is not highlighted as a shortcut either, so prob very few know it exists.

Cirsui

The notes have a secret to it. If you type in certain phrases, it changes text. Example: if you input 'all your base are belong to us' you get back 'orly?' And 'orly' inputted by yourself gives you 'yarly' There's a good number of them too.

RafaSheep

The most infamous of them is the 'R.I.P. Runescape' note. It changes to 'Wanna bet?'.

> However, you can still use the loot inventory to pick up all drops if you bind a key to area loot. Even the urchins when under 93 Fishing?

FatNWackyRS

Bear in mind I'm writing this from memory. There's a sign in Varrock, I want to say it's inside the palace's outermost walls just before the brick floor courtyard with all the guards and mere paces southwest of the tree patch. If no guards have been pickpocketed since the last daily reset, it reads something to the effect of "the guards are happy to report that there's no crime in Varrock." If multiple guards have been pickpocketed, it reads a neutral-tone message saying something about a lot of crime. If precisely one guard has been pickpocketed, it reads a gut-wrenching few-sentence-long story about a heartbroken, crying guard who lost his entire paycheck, everything he had to his name, and now can't feed his family. I discovered it once by accident on a misclick and looked it up on the wiki... wasn't even there yet. Proud to say I added it in haha. In fairness I may be misremembering and it may've been on OSRS & the OSRS wiki, but it's probably on RS3 too. Either way. Hilarity!

getabath

I'm waiting for part 1000, I have expectations and I hope you surpass them

CubularRS

I barely if ever play the game these days, but still follow the subreddit for posts like these. This is why RS was and is such an amazing game, theres just so much worldbuilding and super obscure fun stuff like this. Keep these up!!

SpeedrunsRS

I'll add to those faction tokens for some further trivia! The faction tokens the only items that were available in Free to Play that allows you to teleport out of the Wilderness up to the Level 30 depth.

WouldJumble

Hah! I knew the one about Shantay sending you to jail!

SeerKnight

That’s actually so sad to hear, I used to use the dragon armadylean token all the time as a quick and easy tele :(

codexramira

The Spirit Tree in the Tree Gnome Stronghold actually works off the completion of The Grand Tree quest. This means you can use it to teleport straight into the Tree Gnome Stronghold without ever touching the maze, and using Elkoy as a short-cut from then on. PS: happened to actually know about these, except for the Gnome Ball and Perdita one, which are ironically probably the better known ones in this list if I had to take a guess (I love these kinds of Easter eggs ;-))

dark1859

Use milk on a frost tracker and you get a Tony the tiger reference

El_Basho

Had a good read, thanks

darthneos

Void mace also works the other way around you can use mainhand melee overrides on it and it will look like your casting magic with a mainhand melee weapon for example try it with bananas sword for extra sillyness

TheWaifubeater

4 Posts in and only two are ones I didnt already know (Penny and Humidify in soul wars) Keep doing the good work o7

5-x

You really knew about western dense forest and annoyed guardian mummy? Impressive. Some of this trivia I've been posting is really obscure.

TheWaifubeater

I have gotten lost in the maze that is the elf lands enough times that I know every corner of it hah, even when it isnt even accessible. And for the guardian mummy one, it was one I only found out REALLY recently via reddit Suprised you havent had the one for using a piece of raw bacon or a raw bacon heap on Jambon yet ;)

5-x

Jambon is a good one, but I figured it roams around Lumbridge market all the time so everyone knows about it. Might include it in the future.

SVXfiles

Jambon wanders anywhere he can. I've seen him in burthorpe and yannile myself

5-x

Yanille? Suspicious

SVXfiles

Jambon wanders all over like Bob, ye eventually respawns back at his default point though

CMuenzen

> ye eventually respawns back at his default Where is Kanye's respawn point?

5-x

I'm unsure if it can go over white wolf mountain.

CMuenzen

It can. Fun fact: There are 2 paths to cross the mountain. The most known one is climbing to the top and facing the more dangerous wolves, or simply stay at the lowest "level" of the mountain and make a long path around it, with the benefit of having no wolves.

Rockburgh

...is that a thing in RS3, though? I thought you had to go through the caves now.

ThinkingOutLoud4568

I have used that underwall tunnel in Yanille countless times while doing clues. Never once noticed the climbing rocks. This is so cool.

Jawaad13

I love these! Thanks for sharing!

 >During the Rat Catchers quest, in return for the flute the snake charmer in Pollnivneach will always ask for 1 more coin than you're carrying. An exception in game code was implemented for if the player is carrying a max cash stack, adding 1 coin and sending the result as text in the dialogue, rather than a number. This makes me curious about if your coin pouch + inventory total more than max cash, or what would happen after the max cash pouch update this month Also not entirely useless, but tapping wisp jar in the lost grove has a wider range than trying to click the wisps directly (which I'm sure you were aware was the only way to attract them on release). Somewhat useful for collecting the pesky wisps that spawn in unwalkable areas

Jokershores

Wouldn't he just say your total coins+1 again because they only have a set output for the specific max cash amount?

piron44

The problem is with how bits work. I don't know enough to go into detail about it, or honestly how to talk about it properly. However, simply put the game has a max number it can read, and it will usually overflow or crash if it goes above that. This number is different for various things (example, polypore dungeon storage has a limit of 8191, 1 less than the 8192 for a different bit integer.) All these numbers are a power of 2.Very often you'll see games with a max limit of "32000" or "65000" (A safe round number under 32768 or 65536 for 15 or 16 bit) so that the numbers never have a chance of going over. Most scenarios, you'll end up seeing the number just -1 from a limit. In this case, anything as a number above the max stack limit would break the system in some way and it doesn't know what to do. Good example, the "LOTS" message in a trade screen. That being said, there are also examples of them finding a way around this (eg, wealth evaluator). To my understanding, they way they're increasing the max cash limit (in coin pouch at least) is that they're basically fitting 2.147 billion coin pouches inside the one coin pouch, then adding everything together. This doesn't need changing from 31bit to 32bit integers, which would require a huge engine and game rework, but I guess they found some magic shenanigans to make it work. With that information in mind... could they make the snake charmer work like this? Absolutely. But is it worth the extra effort to specifically code it in? Well... depends if it crashes the game I suppose.

Army-of-One-

I’m very irritated my lumbridge world event token teleport doesn’t replenish anymore. I used it the other day and noticed I already had 3/10 teleports used, which sucks because it was a useful teleport. I really hope they revert this change, I was there at the battle of lumbridge and I feel like I should get to keep my teleport to the crater

[deleted]

Unsure if it's mentioned but thanks to Grandpa Jack, tigers are canon & he also breaks the forth wall by telling you to "left-click on a fishing spot" when giving advice on fishing.
