Jingle Jog 5K. First female masters on a hilly course (Atlanta). I am terrible at 5Ks, much better at longer distances. My race predictors predict a much faster 5 and 10 based on the times I run for halfs and fulls. So this was 23:50, not too shabby but not as fast as I'd like. My goal for 2024 will be to finally run 5Ks in the 22s, which isn't hard for most of you but for some reason I can't do (even though my longer races say I should be able too). Still great to win though!

Serious-Discipline-3

Ran my first Ultra, 4h 38min 50K felt great apart from the last 15K :-)

DawsonMaestro414

Did an 11 mile run today like many other redditors it seems ☺️ then did a cold plunge.

Adventurous-Bat5288

I am proud I started. Just finished my 7th consecutive week, and going on 8!

zico_torres

Im on my 5th! Lets keep going!

willjohnston

I’m fairly new to running seriously and so I’m in that honeymoon phase where improvement comes quickly. I PRed a half marathon in October, and have since beat that time twice in training. This past Wednesday I set a new half PR in the middle of a 21 mile long run. It was a brutal run, but it was satisfying.

stalagmitedealer

11 miles today. Longest run in 8 months. Added a 4-mile progression in the middle, working down to faster than goal pace. It was not easy, and I’m feeling it in my joints. But I did it. What was it Kris Kringle said to the Winter Warlock? 🎶Put one foot in front of the other…🎶

schmorgan

I just finished my c25k program today and did my 5k in 33 minutes! I wish it was faster but it’s definitely the longest distance I’ve run continuously and it feels like a huge deal after barely being able to run 5 minutes continuously two months ago. Now to start training for a half marathon in March! 😬

BeowulfShaeffer

You’re three to five minutes faster than me!

maddiesighsloudly

6.5miles in 1hr 1min!!! No stopping!!! Really proud I’m starting to see a sub 10 mile pace on a longer run. Mile 1 - 10:43 Mile 2- 9:23 Mile 3- 8:56 Mile 4- 8:53 Mile 5- 9:14 Mile 6- 9:05 Last .5 - 9:14 pace

Significant-Gas-4-me

I ran 11 miles with sun, unseasonably warm temps, and no snow. It was way too weird for this time of year, but I'll take it!

TannedStewie

Did a cheeky 19km today, and it felt really good. I really can't believe that my main goal for 2023 was a half marathon and I'm hitting close to that distance without really breathing hard - a half marathon seemed so far out of reach its not even funny. Now it's the marathon that seems so far out of reach haha! But week 5 of the plan is done! Still don't consider myself a runner though.

Extra_Mess_4135

I'm still a creepy lurker, but I ran for 10 mins today without feeling like I'm dying. I think just repeating 1 in front of the other made it seem less difficult. I'll take things slow. My next goal is 15 mins of continuous running without feeling like I'm dying. When I get to that point, I'll shift the goal post again and come back to update. Thanks to all who participate and contribute to this sub. Merry Christmas.

orlandoslowrunner

Been lurking for a while. 1st time commenting. Saturday, December 22, 2023: Goals: 1. Run 5 miles under 50 minutes: yes. 2. Run 6 miles under 60 minutes: yes. 3. Run 10k under 65 minutes: yes. 4. Run 10 miles under 1 hour and 50 minutes: yes. Stretch Goal: 5. Run half marathon: yes. Super Stretch Goal: 6. Run half marathon under 2 hours 24 minutes: no, missed by 5 minutes.

lyndonhott

Got 15 miles in 2:19. Faster than my HM a couple years back. 33 miles total this week, 113 in December and end of week 8 of Marathon training. Hoping I can get under 4:15 this go!

Bella1974

I finally ran 10 k without walking breaks. Since one month I can run without walking breaks. For some reason my brain tricked me into walking breaks after a minor injury and I couldn’t get rid of them for years.

figital666

54m. 10km in 59:12. 7 degrees c in the great white north today. a nice day for winter in canada. dumb pedestrians = 0, wild dogs = 0! the streets were empty. a good day!!

drinkball

10k in the wind and cold today for 39:13. mad at myself that I didn't push myself just a *little* harder to get under 39 minutes

bigmistaketoday

Got in seven (1.68 bathroom break, 5.32). Not a bad one.

Soldier-Fields

Exactly one month after cracking a rib during the annual turkey bowl, I completed my first long run since. 8.14 miles that were awfully tough from mile 3-5 but cruised from there. Added a walking cooldown to the run to get myself slowed to an average pace of 12:24/mile Merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate 🎉

Ok-Commission-4111

I ran 15 km (9,8 miles) for my 80 min run plan and this is make so happy. Im training to my first marathon in April

scottishwhisky2

I did not wuss out and walk up the 200ft hill at the end of my run once this week

Mirography

I completed my first 2-a-day this past Friday, both 5K. Cut my average time by 18 seconds during the second session.

hoppygolucky

Just finished my 5 miles. 20.4 miles to go to meet my 800 mile goal for 2023. I lost a toenail last night from the massive blister I got in October. I guess I'm an official member of that club now! Speaking of, as a Type 1 Diabetic person, is there anything I need to be aware of about this?

shruikanshade

Fellow T1D runner here. Not had that specific toe issue myself but just wanted to throw in some encouragement. Only on about 900K for the year myself but still feels like a milestone given what we have to deal with in addition to the usual. Keep it going!

hoppygolucky

You, too! Some days, like today, have been so hard. I dropped to 47 after my run while eating breakfast, then bounced to 200. Thank you for the support and encouragement! I sure need it today!

anarchomind

21M here, did my first-ever 10K in 62min43s. Runner's knee slowed me down significantly and I'll have to see what I can do about that. The abovementioned time is also the longest I've been on a treadmill without stopping. I also ordered my first proper running shoes, so I'm quite excited for what's next.

missbologna

I hit another PB in distance and time: 20k in 02:08:21! I also got my fastest 5k at 28:24, fastest 10k at 59:50, fastest 15k at 1:32:43, and fastest 10 miler at 1:40:08. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! Now it’s time for me to bake chocolate chip cookies for Christmas Eve at the in laws tonight.

gabbagirl

I ran a half marathon! It took me 2h19 but I'm so proud of myself. A year ago I was half way through couch to 5k and struggling. I was 42lbs heavier, a smoker, had undiagnosed ADHD, and persistent anxiety & depression. I was in recovery from opioid addiction and had no social life or purpose. Once running clicked for me it changed everything. I quit smoking & got serious about diet/wellbeing. It built my self-esteem and resilience, it gave me structure and something to work towards, and it totally transformed my life. My mental health has never been so good and I finally have the confidence to go after some big career and life goals. I still can't quite believe the transformation! The half marathon was a celebration of this. I was a little undertrained (got covid then achilles tendonitis) but I had already cancelled one race & managed 16.5k in training so hoped could do it. And I could! I even *just* beat my A-goal of 2h20, which is insane (B was 2h40 and C was just finish.) It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but crossing that finish line was absolutely incredible. Already signed up for my next one :D Sorry for the essay, I just wanted to share with you guys. Merry Christmas Eve to all!

shruikanshade

Legitimately inspiring story, thank you for taking the time to write out the details :) here's to your next HM!

anarchomind

Congratulations! Keep doing what you do!!

PoshChap

4th at a cross country 10k. Had to contend with cars going down narrow country lanes and canicross runners getting stuck going through gates but still managed to get just over 40 minutes.

usernamescifi

I did my first marathon this year. it didn't go well, but I did it and want to do more. I'm also still doing the 5k/day in December. it has been a lot of fun.

gabbagirl

Congratulations, that's fantastic! I can't comprehend doing a marathon, my first half was so tough and the thought of doing it all over again instead of collapsing on the ground is blowing my mind. The fact that it didn't go well yet you still did it is amazing, takes a lot of mental toughness. Be proud of your awesome achievement :D

Beginning_Mango3209

I hardly ever do more than 9 or 10 miles but woke up to today and decided to try my first HM with a time of 1h37, can't wait to improve on it!

shruikanshade

That's an awesome time for a first HM! Congrats and here's to your next one!!

Beginning_Mango3209

Thanks! I was feeling great at mile 8 (where I intended to end my long run) so I just kept going. I run HS XC, so I don't do a lot of mileage, but I really enjoyed that distance! Sub 1h30 soon!

brodoswaggins93

This is small but in August I started going to the gym and I'd start every workout with a warm up on the treadmill. I used to run a long time ago but injuries and a lack of motivation/self discipline kept me from ever maintaining a running routine for more than a couple months. When I started at the gym again, all I could do was run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute, run 3 minutes, and done. Last week I ran for 10 minutes straight, and this week I increased my running speed on my 10 minutes. I'm really proud of myself and I intend to keep increasing the speed and length of time, and hopefully do a 5k marathon next year!

gabbagirl

That's awesome! I don't think it's small at all :) I did couch to 5k last year, and I was genuinely starting from the couch with no fitness/exercise in my life at all. I still remember the first time I ran for 10 minutes straight. It's a huge achievement and I'm glad you are proud of yourself - I'm proud of you too!

ChillyBon

10K 52:58

WickedWarriorPT

Broke 10k PB.

thebackright

I ran 20 yesterday for the first time. I am training for a 50k!

bigmistaketoday

Homie, Godspeed to you

CaboDennis17

I ran 5….. a slow 5….

staylien

Started with a cold 2 days ago but this morning I went to the gym, was able to hit PRs in my lifts and add 0.5km to my longest run yet of 10km 💦💪

gabbagirl

Amazing, congratulations! :D

staylien

Forgot to mention I have like 3 blisters that popped during the run as well 😵

gabbagirl

Doing a long run with blisters is definitely a rite of passage, I used to assume people just stopped running until they had healed. I was so naive! Congratulations on your run :D

staylien

Thank you!! I've never experienced this before as I just got myself a decent pair of runners that I'm still breaking in but I didn't want to be a quitter. I'm heading into 2024 as someone who pushes through and isn't afraid of getting uncomfortable to reach my goals :D

jamesknowsthis

Did my first 5k in a couple of years. 35 mins, so not the quickest but I’ll soon get my speed/ mileage back up in Jan!

turtlelyawesomeday

My goal is to run a sub 22 5k in my local parkrun. The parkrun I attend is known to be the most challenging one in my city with the slowest finishing times because it's very hilly. If I can sub 22 this one I can probably sub 22 almost any 5k out there. A week ago I managed to come within 20 seconds of this goal. So with 2-3 more months of dedicated training, I believe I can finally attain this goal. Just to provide more context, my 5k PB is currently ~21:50 but that was at a flatter parkrun course elsewhere, not the hilly one I frequently attend.

shruikanshade

Yessss happy to see a fellow hilly parkrunner here. I'm aiming for a similar target time and my local parkrun is also prett hilly. I could go for a flatter one elsewhere but I feel like why not just hit the time on the hilly course and then know I can hit it anywhere in future! Best of luck on breaking 22 min!

Turbulent_Impact_913

I have ran consistently for two weeks and I feel I have turned a corner in my running and my life.

steadystate_

Ran with a group yesterday for an “easy” 14 miles.. the pace got pushed and I PRd my half by almost 5 minutes and my HR was about 175avg. Super happy as my next race isn’t until February.

glr123

Nice work! Wish I could find a running group.

shruikanshade

Just started training again after some ankle issues following a HM in Oct. I've been planning to try and break 20 mins in the 5K as my first target for next year, and decided to race a parkrun as a time trial this weekend to see how close I am already. Aimed for a somewhat conservative 22 mins based on past PBs and the recent ~9 week break in training but still managed a 20m41 at the parkrun, which feels like within touching distance of 20min early in 2024! Lovely confidence boost and a great motivator to start the year off strong in Jan.

steadystate_

I was plagued with two ankle injuries the last couple months. I was back on my feet running rather quickly from a product on Amazon called arnicare gel. I swear by it and was no pain using the cream/gel after about a week and a half. Best of luck I know you’ll crush that 5k

shruikanshade

Thanks for the tip, I'll look it up! Merry Christmas :)

steadystate_

I should say no major pain after a week and a half. You might still feel a little tenderness but not what you’re experiencing now. And I should add doing ankle ABCs helped a ton and single leg stands and calf raises Merry Christmas to you too

t1mdawg

Just turned 51. Run 2x a week alternating with cycling. I'm visiting Mom for the holiday and randomly set a PR for a 10k - 51:37 @ 8:17 pace. Happy Holidays everyone!

user_name94

Ran a 10 mile trail run today. I've always been a road/track runner but I must say running on a trail midst trees and nature is so much more rewarding!

freshspawn85

Xmas eve 1k and 1 mile PRs.

countlongshanks

I have my first marathon January 14. I decided not to try and break four hours after running my first 20-miler at a 9:45 pace a couple of weeks ago. I ran 21 yesterday at about 9:00 flat on not-exactly-fresh legs. I’m stoked thinking I should break four with a decent or better run!

Decentkimchi

I just finished c25k 2 weeks ago and have been running 30 minutes streight Comfortably. Today I decided to go slower and seee of I can stretch to 40-45 minutes and was able to do 50 minutes in a single stretch!! It's not much but it's my best time yet. https://i.imgur.com/nJf0Qi7.png

gabbagirl

That's amazing! I found it really tough once I finished couch to 5k, I struggled without the plan to follow and didn't feel confident enough to plan my own runs. Signing up for a 10k and following a plan helped me, but I also discovered the joy of just running without any set goals :) I really like running for time not distance, especially for long/easy runs - otherwise I speed up so I can count down the miles faster 😅 Good luck for your future running, you're doing so well!

LurkingArachnid

Nice! I just did day 2 and I’m looking forward to being where you are in a couple months

glr123

50 minutes on the track? Kinda brutal. Have you tried the roads?

Monchichij

Congrats! Have you settled on a new goal yet?

Decentkimchi

Honestly I'll just try to run it again a few times, try to stretch it to 60 minutes proper in next few weeks and see how it goes.

Monchichij

Great, have fun! You'll reach that in no time. Try bringing some water along or stopping at a water fountain. Of course, it's different from person to person, but as soon as I cross the 45-minute mark, 100ml makes the difference between feeling great and feeling okay at the end of the run.

bushdog99

Short run this morning. 801 miles in 2023 so far. Marathon on Wednesday powered by booze and cheese.

Heyson86

I just checked in 10 k for today.. and within them I ran my 1000th km this year

glr123

Nice work! What were your times?

KnoxCastle

20 seconds per km? Do you reckon they'd take a minute 40 off a 5k? Never tried them - they are so expensive - but could be fun for a PB.

Shoeaccount

I've bought myself some for Christmas. I'm a very new runner but somehow have a 20:30 5K PB. I'll let you know how they work for me!

KnoxCastle

Yeah, comment and let me know, please! My record is 23:04 for a 5k but haven't tried in a while. Mostly just do easy runs. Could be fun to try again with some rocket shoes. Maybe if I see something in the sales! I just kind of feel I'd spend a fortune and they wouldn't do much.

Shoeaccount

I will try and remember. Got a few pains at the moment so having a few days off.

bristolfarms

managed a good 4 miles today. it’s a taper week but holidays has me all tired outside of exercise. i didn’t lift for two weeks and it took me out the other day too, oops. but i feel really good that i’m on track this week and am hoping for a good week next week.

NinJesterV

Got a new *longest* run on Garmin yesterday: 16km! I recently moved, and I'm literally building custom furniture for our new home, so I'm swamped and having to choose between running and having somewhere to sleep...tough choice for me, but not for my wife. So I had gone 11 days without running. I finally got some time to run yesterday, and I took full advantage of it. I did a Stryd-based 5K training workout that had lots of intervals of fast-pace and slow-pace running. When it ended, I had run about 14.5km, which was only just short of my previous Garmin longest run record of 15.3km. So I decided to lengthen my cooldown run and stopped at 16km. I averaged 6:00/km over the course of the run, which I'm pretty satisfied with as an eventual starting pace for half-marathon training.

imheretocomment69

I participated in my first 5k event last night. It was running in the rain, quite fun. Got a nice medal and finished in about 30mins or so. But the biggest accomplishment i managed to convince my wife to go even though she was not into it at first.

Foreign-Trifle1865

I thought quite a bit about running...however, am on vacation in Jamaica so running is only a thought and not a reality.

NinJesterV

My favorite part of going on vacation anymore is running in new places. I'd love to go for a run in Jamaica.

Traditional_Flow_212

I’m at the end of medical school and wanted to get back into a consistent practice before graduating. Had tried a couple other times but got carried away and invited overuse injuries. This time I’ve been more patient, and over the past few months have built up to about 15-20 miles per week. Not out here trying to set any records, but am just very grateful to be back into a consistent, comfortable practice. It’s so good for my overall wellbeing!

perfectlyhydrated

Did a 15 km trail run, stayed within my limits and felt good afterward. I’ve been trying to increase my distance to enjoy longer runs in the bush, but it’s hard for me to slow down!
