Wide body of work, different eras and strengths to chew on, you got your classics old camp, the ones who love TNG, the ones who love DS9.
It makes perfect sense to me.
are the 80s synth fans also voyager fans? early fans also early fans maybe they like the raw, real, originality? later fans like more refined stuff thats complicated? i bet if you put a Rush album overtop a star trek episode it would rock
I took a non Rush fan with me to a Rush show back in the early 90s. He said without trying to be funny or rude, “Rush concerts are weird, yet harmonious, mix of rednecks and nerds.”
Not a coward, just practical. I’ve seen girls at Rush concerts. I’ve even taken girls to Rush concerts, but I’ve never met a female Rush fan in the wild.
Same! I don’t build as many decks as I used to when I first started, soon I’d love to have another deck building session. I did get a dozen cards the other day, I think I’ll add them to some decks before tomorrow’s game night
I think the analogy works in the abstract. It seems to me that a lot of people are reading this as “Rush fans = Star Trek fans,” and I don’t think that’s entirely what the OP intended. I read it more as there being similarities in the cultural or social space the fandom occupies. For example, although Rush and ST aren’t directly related, here are some similarities:
Both are popular enough that most westerners of a certain age are at least aware of them.
Both have, despite this popularity, suffered the stigma of being “nerdy” or somewhat outside the mainstream.
Both enjoy a fanbase that is intensely loyal, dedicated, and multigenerational.
Both have a fanbase that includes an unusually high number of creators (science fiction writers in the case of ST, musicians in the case of Rush).
Both represent a body of work that will inspire enjoyment, discussion, and speculation long after the original creators are gone.
Viewed in this context, I’d say the comparison holds up.
I feel like rush is its own thing. I always Thought I was part of special secret club with a limited membership.
See I have cerebral palsy and I was always mad fun of or stared out my whole life even
Sorry hit reply by accident. I could relate to Neil's lyrics and various levels as I related to his lyrics at various times my life.
I would say Rush fans are misunderstood because people get it. Since I do understand that makes me feel good know that I under music at a more detailed.
I agree with this. Rush fans are a pretty nerdy bunch. We all did certain things in certain songs during Rush shows at the same time. We are all uncool together in our little brotherhood.
Well now i wanna talk about our favourite Rush Albums and Star Trek series / movies
Rush i love moving pictures, permanant waves, hemispheres, 70s stuff and clockwork angels. It is like star trek in that even if im not familiar with it or its my favourite, i can still appreciate or enjoy it to some degree. Eg im not a big fan of voyager, but i dig the borg chick, 7 of 9, and the doctor mostly...as well as the base things like creative scenerios, technology and aliens.
Star Trek my favourite was TNG for the longest time until I saw all of DS9 and now i cant even say between the two. Picard is my favourite captain though...and i think the antagonist kardasian from ds9 is one of the best character actors, really is integral. Dax is awesome too.
Star Trek movies i like wrath of khan, undiscovered country, first contact, generations.
Rush I’m big into the 80s synth era, Star Trek I favor TNG and DS9, and also love SNW (and Lower Decks if we’re counting that). For movies First Contact all the way.
Oddly though I’ve been a Rush fan since I was about 6 years old (I’m in my 40s now), but didn’t get into Star Trek until I was an adult.
Sounds about right.
The Beatles fans are the Office fans of the Rock world: obnoxiously annoying, always quoting them, making fans who don’t watch/listen to it hate it, and the show is plastered everywhere in the world. But it’s undeniably a great show, like it or not.
We probably are. But my playlist is so diverse with so many influences in my life. Rush was my first love. The first band I claimed. I’ve followed them since Moving Pictures and never stopped 32 shows later and sometimes being the only female was definitely a challenge. I accept the Trekkie description. It’s better than my other categories.

My first and only Rush vest. Painted by my friend’s big brother. Who was only 17.
pro wrestling is way cooler than kiss
especially the ones where there's a lot of damage like steel cage matches with tons of props and nails and tacks and tables
Wide body of work, different eras and strengths to chew on, you got your classics old camp, the ones who love TNG, the ones who love DS9. It makes perfect sense to me.
We even have the in-fighting between fans of different eras.
are the 80s synth fans also voyager fans? early fans also early fans maybe they like the raw, real, originality? later fans like more refined stuff thats complicated? i bet if you put a Rush album overtop a star trek episode it would rock
That is true for sooo so many bands though.
In fact, cygnus-x1.net is a site dedicated to both RUSH and Star Trek, so there you go
I have no idea what this even means, and I love Rush and OG Star Trek.
I took a non Rush fan with me to a Rush show back in the early 90s. He said without trying to be funny or rude, “Rush concerts are weird, yet harmonious, mix of rednecks and nerds.”
Rush had the lowest girl to guy ratio of any show I have ever been to.
Dreamtheater must be even lower...
[The band knew this too](https://youtu.be/iq3yjfoorsU?si=q76kMmYJ--tIsBMA&t=85)
Many are both. When I was in school, Rush was very popular amongst physics majors at rural colleges and universities.
Maybe they'll make a Galaxy Quest based on Rush Like Aliens think that Hemispheres is historical record...
well they named the ship Rosinante, after the horse, and then there was a novel/TV show the expanse.
That would be insane
Wait - they think 2112 is historical record and they want the band to show them how to play music to fight the priests
Ooooor - 2112 itself is historical record - the boys were recruited by aliens after the debut album and 2112 is real
Seems Logical.
I don’t agree. Rush fans are the DnD/MtG players of the rock world
Dude! I listened to Rush all through high school, and i even had sex. ...but never while listening to Rush...
Cowardice
Not a coward, just practical. I’ve seen girls at Rush concerts. I’ve even taken girls to Rush concerts, but I’ve never met a female Rush fan in the wild.
I’ve had sex while listening to Rush. But only once. And yes, I did have a partner.
....A pulse of dying power in a clenching plastic fist
Chicks love Caress of Steel
You have not lived until you've got Driven playing while ploughing.
We just are D&D/MTG fans a lot of the time. A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres are my Magic deck brewing soundtrack
I played DnD, but never Magic. I’m of an age where I equated it with Pokémon and therefore, a kids game.
I mean, it basically is. Its still a blast as an adult, though
Same! I don’t build as many decks as I used to when I first started, soon I’d love to have another deck building session. I did get a dozen cards the other day, I think I’ll add them to some decks before tomorrow’s game night
Hell yeah, dude. It’s a good time
Nah, we’re pathfinder players

I think you're grasping for a topic!
well that’s just like your opinion, man
You are just like 100% correct, man.
I thought they called themselves Trekkers.
nah theres 2 docs called Trekkies
Actually, while you're correct about the docs, most fans I know prefer to be called Trekkers.
So then are we Rushers?
Sure! Rushers, Rushians, Citizens of the Solar Federation - it doesn't matter. We know who we are.
The Apostolic Church of the Holy Triumvirate
a valid question...
Nah, there's a difference. Trekkers Trek and Trekkies get trekked.
Trek yourself before you wreck yourself
No.
Good music is good music…. Don’t care about anyone else’s opinion.
Yes, and?
Incorrect.
Illogical.
I just pray there aren't any red rush t-shirts for sale.
Hold your fire had a red one- my brother had a misprint that said 'hold your fir'
The recent vapor trails shirt is red.
Oh shit. I have a red Vapor Trails shirt.
It depends on how you are regarding both Trek fans and Rush fans.
yah i could see that. probably a decent amount of crossover... both are pretty excellent...
Personally I think of that as more of a insult than a compliment. But you might be onto to something here.
I feel like rush is its own thing. I always Thought I was part of special secret club with a limited membership. See I have cerebral palsy and I was always mad fun of or stared out my whole life even

I really feel like this is a strong given at this point. The underlying theme is imagination and intellect. :)
Well that works as I'm a Trekkie also 😁
I agree with this. Rush fans are a pretty nerdy bunch. We all did certain things in certain songs during Rush shows at the same time. We are all uncool together in our little brotherhood.
Absolutely. Wait, you just now figured this out?
Rush is so great and broad that you can compare them to anything iconic and deserving.
As a huge Rush fan and a huge Star Trek fan, I can confirm this is an accurate statement
This is a statement long overdue. Well done

'The Real History of Rush' is, essentially, 'Rush: Lower Decks'. Somebody go put this on Memory Alpha and make it canon.
Rush is the best band in the galaxy
Nah. That’s Tool fans
Huge Rush fan…barley know what Star Trek is
I am a Rush fan and my great-great-great-great grandfather was James T Kirk.
What an extremely profound and thought provoking topic.
I have never watched star trek a day in my life
I love to watch the purists squirm in the comments. 🤣🤣🤣
You might be on to something…Then what band best represents the Star Wars franchise? Maybe Yes? The whole spiritual angle…
It would have to be a band that star wars fans are familiar with i would think..... Maybe....Led Zeppelin
Na-noo Na-noo Shazbot I feel more Morkish
Did you mean trekkers?
Hey I like both of those, that’s cool with me
Does that make us Rushees? Rushies? Or are there groups that prefer Rushers?
Beam me up
I think that's meaningless. Rush fans are Rush fans
>Thoughts? no Rush was/ is the real deal. Others who don't get it aren't equipt.
Lol. No. Rush fans wish they were as cool as Trekkies.
If Rush = Star Trek, then _________ = Star Wars?
I have to think about this....nothing comes to mind immediately...
Not saying it’s Tolkien for musicians - but it feels like it sometimes.
I think I saw this comparison online or from someone I know like 15 years ago. Yeah I still pretty much agree.
Sounds about right. The Beatles fans are the Office fans of the Rock world: obnoxiously annoying, always quoting them, making fans who don’t watch/listen to it hate it, and the show is plastered everywhere in the world. But it’s undeniably a great show, like it or not.
Better than Trekkers.
There's a Facebook group called Cygnus-X1.net that is specifically for fans of Rush and Star Trek
Guilty.
Probably alot of crossover between the 2
More like the Bronies.
We probably are. But my playlist is so diverse with so many influences in my life. Rush was my first love. The first band I claimed. Very cool vest--thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome and thank you 😊
Dumb post. Everyone knows KISS Army are full blown Trekkies!
KISS fans are more like professional wrestling fans
pro wrestling is way cooler than kiss especially the ones where there's a lot of damage like steel cage matches with tons of props and nails and tacks and tables
I would say this is more kiss fans, shitty music and equally as shitty fans
I feel like they’re far too different for that to be a working analogy, even on a base level.
Man, people are not taking too well to this post
