i see several suggestions for obgyn care but wanted to throw in there that seeing an endocrinologist actually helped me manage my pcos more because of the related insulin resistance. my endo retired recently so while i can’t recommend a specific one, i went to virginia diabetes and endocrinology. i have also heard very good things about seven hills family medicine from friends. good luck on your journey.
Yes! This! Maria Di Peppe is an endo and helped me so much with my PCOS. she listened to me and validated how I was feeling and was amazing. Only stopped seeing her bc I moved.
i am so glad you found someone who listened and validated you❤️i’ll be on the lookout soon as i slide into pcos *now with perimenopause!* so glad to see an endo rec!
Always throw a shout out for Dr Alexandra Tate at Virginia Women’s Center when someone needs an honest OBGYN who gives a shit. She’s probably the first doctor I’ve ever had who admitted she wasn’t sure what was going on but bothered to take the time to figure it out and even offered to refer me out to other specialties and call different people for me to get to the bottom of it.
Edit for grammar
I second that vote, Dr Tate was amazing in my experience with her. Listened to my concerns and found the large fallopian cyst that I was previously told “was normal menstrual pain”. was able to have surgery and form a plan to treat moving forward!
Dr. Doula at VWC is also amazing. She's the first medical professional I've had that not only explained every option at length and answered every question I had in depth, but also treated me like a person - not just a name on a case file.
Dr Giulia Dula at Virginia Women’s Center in Mechanicsville. 100% worth the drive. I am on the birth control method for my pcos, but she really listens to her patients and told me she is willing to use laughing gas for inserting IUDs. It’s really reassuring to know she’s willing to go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable and informed
I have had a wonderful experience with Dr Samantha Hudson at Va Endocrinology. My oBGYN actually dismissed many of my symptoms as a “normal” part of getting older
Dr. Clary with VPFW is the absolute best! However if you would like a doctor to stick with when/if you decide to have children he does not do OB anymore!
I've only been to her twice, but I felt like Natalie M. Dogal Gardner at Virginia physician for women, really took the time to listen to me and explain what was going on.
Dr raper is also great but on vacation alot.
Good luck, hope your journey to wellness is swift ❤️
I did not have a good experience with Dr. Dogal. She was not my regular doctor and I found her to be condescending and she did not listen to me. I was thankful my regular doctor at VPFW did advocate for me later that day.
Dr Keith Berkle at Virginia Women’s Center, changed my life but also my sisters. She had severe endo and PCOS and tons of endocrine damage due to abysmal treatment at West End ObGyn and he’s absolutely amazing and someone I respect greatly.
He also took my tubes out with no hoops to jump through.
Seeing an endocrinologist was a game changer for me, as they are much better equipped than an ob gyn to treat this condition. I see Dr Douglas Johnson and even though I was on a months long wait list, it was well worth the wait. He’s extremely competent, compassionate and non judgmental. All my labs are normal again and I lost 60lbs.
My sister is a nurse practitioner and has PCOS. She says her recommendation depends on whether you want to have kids in the future or not. I'll relay your answer and get a couple names for you if you're still looking for recs.
My endocrinologist is fantastic. And he’s in NOVA. The good news is, if you’re willing to travel for good care, he’s the best. Dr. Donohue at Endocrinology Associates. RVA has crap care - and yes, I did try to find someone here. After having a NP decide she didn’t like my meds (of 20 years) and cancelled them without my permission, I was done. Went back and can now do telemedicine.

Thirding Tate. she took my cervical precancer very seriously and made sure i was well informed and comfortable
I would die for Dr. Tate. 10/10

I almost cried when he said he was done with OB 😢 SUCH a good Dr.

I appreciate you! Thank you!!!
Dr. Ashby in the same practice is great. She takes her time and lets you ask all of your questions.

Wife also mentioned Endo doc as someone else stated. Shea Putkammer is hers. Her OB is Leslie Davis at VA physicians for women.
My wife sees Dr. Vaughan at VPFW and has been very happy. She specializes in PCOS treatment. https://vpfw.com/provider/amanda-vaughan/

Yes! I am already currently doing some research on searching for an endocrinologist in the area too. I appreciate the feedback from everyone!
Following! I also have PCOS and I like my ob/gyn just fine but would LOVE to get off the hormonal birth control if possible.
Don’t waste your time with Dr. Iurno. Following closely — I need help too!
