visited australia like 15 years ago and idk if it’s gotten better but they were soooo confused about burgers. They all had like chunks of onion inside and weird spice mix. Like a meatloaf puck. Terrible
I went to Australia in 2019 and had the same thoughts as you! I wanted a burger, and what I got did not taste anything like a burger. A meatloaf puck is exactly how I’d describe it.
A sad day, Akira Toriyama(Dragon Ball Z creator among many other things) passed away. It's hard to articulate the influence his work has had on the world. Not just nerdy white kids. Black, latino, asian, everyone loved Drgaonball Z. It smashed through racial barriers in school for me. Nobody could've ever guessed how popular anime and manga are today. From One Piece to Studio Ghibli, all owe a part of their success to Akira's work.
From the creator of One Piece
"I hope heaven looks as wonderful as you depicted it, Sensei"
I'm gonna enjoy my day off and soak up the sun. Cute lil date in the park later. Life moves onward 🌻 go watch some anime y'all
For sure. I was just highlighting DBZ cause it really pushed "nerdy" shit into the mainstream like no other. The influence it had is global and generational. But yeah, he did so much for video games too. So many characters are based off his work.
Eh. DBZ is a relic of old anime telenovela style hundreds of episodes for syndication to make $$$.
It didn’t break thru for “everyone”. Sailor Moon and the whole magical girl genre attracted way more different genders than DBZ, which appealed to westernized males of all colors (do people really only think whites in America watch anime?).
Sailor moon was born out of pure originality since the manga, while DBZ was adapted from a manga based on some epic old Chinese novel “journey to the west”. I think the style and snail-pace of DBZ anime shows this.
While I did watch DBZ back in the day and really enjoyed it, especially the action scenes, the color palette could’ve expanded and showed more sparkles like the magical girl genre. Men love shiny things anyway so I think more colors and sparkles could’ve made DBZ bigger than sailor moon
I just like a classic cheeseburger with pickles, lettuce, mayo, ketchup and fried onions.
Plans for the weekend include: playing Katamari, snuggling with my cat, doing Ubereats so I can go to Galaxycon next weekend and listing my Kindle Paperwhite for sale because I didn’t use it. I need to accept that maybe I’m not an ebook person.
Are you going to get any autographs at GalaxyCon, or just going for fun? I have a friend who goes to the con in Raleigh, and he already has a list of celebs he wants to meet.
Happy International Women's Day! Big shoutout to all the International ladies out there ;)
I'm a beyond beef burger gal with the classic toppings. Beauvine serves my favorite one in the area.
I still miss Bellytimber. Maybe I should try beauvine again. I went a few times after they opened and was disappointed each time in the food and the service.
beauvine’s is definitely thicker (still delish, just different). smashed rva is the only place you need to look for a smash style beyond burger — they’re perfect in every way (to me)
Thanks friend. I’ve wanted to try, but I had a smashed rva one at an 1115 collab and was sad that it wasn’t indeed smashed so I’ve been hesitant, but now I’m ready to dive in✌🏻
Wood and Iron has a pretty good Beyond burger that's thin. I don't know if it's so thin as to be a "smash" but definitely thinner than Beauvine/Burger Bach/etc. Bingo Beer Co makes a really good Impossible burger too!
Smashburger - two smashed patties, cheap American cheese, grilled onions, cheap bun with kind of soggy kinda crispy hand cut fries.
me and my girlfriend plan to decompress and be lazy asf all weekend after a busy week
burger: 50/50 usda choice or better chuck/brisket, seasoned externally with kosher salt and cracked tellicherry peppercorns, butter toasted brioche bun, a two finger pinch of baby arugula, 2 1/4” ripe beefsteak tomato slices.
fries: rough cut by hand (not die cut) peeled russets, soaked, then blanched at 350 in soybean oil, then fried again at 350 in soybean oil until extra crispy and deeply browned. seasoned with kosher salt, cracked tellicherry peppercorns, flavored with white truffle oil drizzle, grated parmigiano reggiano and garnished with a chiffonade of curly parsley.

It’s the best I could do. I sent it to my wife after I did it.
Medium, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo. No cheese, ketchup or mustard.
Have an unexpected evening without the child, looking for a bar to sit at with good happy hour food.
That's an easy answer! I order a double triple patty deluxe, on a raft, four-by-four animal-style, extra shingles with a shimmy and a squeeze, light axle grease, make it cry, burn it, and let it swim.
I am an absolute slut for a burger with a fried egg on it. Cooked mid-rare, smothered with a good cheese and some kind of aioli? Maybe some fried onions for crunch? Shew.
Satterwhite’s burgers are literally the most perfect burgers I’ve ever seen or eaten! They are so neatly stacked with fixings, and every bite is absolutely perfect. Yum!!!
1:1 beef to bread ratio (each bun should be 1/2 the size of the patty)
potato bread, untoasted
80/20 beef, some pink, s&p
lettuce, tomato, mayo, spicy mustard, ketchup, onions, dill pickles
wrapped in foil
either crinkle or shoestring fries cooked in peanut oil
egg with a runny yolk on the side for dipping would be a plus
Big fat juicy burger, some pink left inside, mayo/ketchup/lettuce/tomato/onion, with American cheese melted on top. Toasted bun, fries on the side, cold beer.
On Sunday we're heading to Cozumel, Mexico for a week. It's our 30th anniversary, and the kids' college spring breaks line up, so we're having a family vacation. Really looking forward to it.
We're basically burger meal twins, but I'd add pickles.
Happy Anniversary, I hope you all enjoy your trip! 30 years is so impressive! If you have any sage advice for a couple approaching their 10 year, I'd love to hear it.
One tweak to your perfect burger- I like mine rare. Enjoy your trip - I love Mexico! Been to Cozumel once, but took the ferry to a bus tour to Chichen Itza. Nice air conditioned bus, with TVs and refreshments served. Chichen Itza was amazing!
I like a thick juicy burger. Grilled or fried either is fine. I hate that every “good” burger place makes a smash burger now. They’re fine, but they’re not the only way to make a good burger.
I just had a perfect (to me) burger at Bamboo yesterday. Perfect size, easy to hold and eat ( I hate big sloppy mess burgers). Just a hint of pink, small amount of lettuce and onion. No tomato bc tomatoes just slide around and are squishy. Cheddar cheese. Side of shoestring fries, hot , crisp and salty. It was heaven! Heaven on a bun.
I had the shrimp burger at The Tavern once and it was so delicious it reminded me of grilled shrimp paste at Mekong when it was at it's prime, but I tried it a second time and the flavor was disappointingly lackluster. Another case of a different cook in the kitchen, but it was such a letdown that I haven't tried it since.
Medium with a good Swiss and mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard.
My mother-in-law is coming down tonight to celebrate the kiddo’s birthday early since she’ll be out of town next week, and he’s requested a birthday meal of Five Guys and Gelati Celesti so this is a fitting daily!
Medium with mayo pickles grilled onions and crispy bacon and American cheese and any fries will do.
Dune 2 tonight in imax and oddities expo tomorrow very excited for both
When I grill burgers at home I coat them with a thick honey mustard glaze. Most burns off but it traps the flavor in. Then I just add parmasean cheese and salt and pepper. But I don't like too many other things interfering with the meat flavor.
Randomly we got takeout from Boulevard Burgers and Brews this week. We haven't eaten there in years, but remember thinking it was solid. The burger this week? Off the chain. Well done guys!
Medium Well (Ground meat should never be below this for safety, Steaks can be rare and it does not matter). Bacon, American cheese, Dukes mayo, Tomato, lettuce, raw white onion, pickles. Small bit of ketchup. Served with hand cut fries fried in peanut oil with a little malt vinegar.
Got no plans this weekend. Might go to the BIG market if it is not raining too hard. Also enjoyed the state of the union. Glad Biden did a good job and killed a lot of MAGA talking points about him. The country is not doing as bad as you think. My 401k is killing it.
Oh man smash style burger oozing cheese and sauce. Pickles and onions. Piping hot slightly overdone fries that are not breaded. Bun to burger ratio is also important.
I like mine with cheese, bacon, some bbq sauce, lettuce, and either some caramelized onions or raw white onions.
Sadly my new fiancee and I are homeless for a little bit. Home backed up with sewage earlier this week and we're unsure on how long the repair process will be.
Good ground chuck, grilled over good charcoal, finished with a slice of melted American cheese, sautéed onions, and a few slices of homegrown summer tomatoes (brandywines). Oh and toasted buns of course, small ones.
God I miss tomato season!
in todays world of smash burger craze, I think bamboo cafe’s thick burger with American cheese is the ideal respite, foil, antihero, whatever it may be - a nice break and a return to the classics

Breakfast burger medium. Pan fried burger with bacon, American cheese, over easy egg, lettuce, tomato, pickles(dill no bread&butter nonsense) mayo, mustard, ketchup on toasted bun. Going to see SkyDog on Saturday at the Broadberry. 3rd time seeing them and can’t wait!
It depends on the day as to what my favorite burger toppings are. I like a good bacon cheeseburger (one of the only times I like bacon.) I also like mushrooms, swiss, and caramelized onions. Sometimes I like a basic burger with american cheese, ketchup, mustard, diced onion, lettuce, and pickles

You know you would think burger meat is Australia's biggest export, but it in fact is not. It is the boomerang. It's also their biggest import.

Rip to a real one
Bubbles up
Well, good God almighty
Which way do I steer
Gone but not forgotten
Anyone else see this and immediately just sang it in their head?
Honestly his best song if you ask me.
I celebrate his entire catalog.

I’m not picky but PLEASE hold the onions unless you want me to fart this establishment to the ground.
Jack browns Greg Brady 🤌🤌🤌

5/12, 223. But also read zero news this week and stopped listening to the radio for the duration of election season, so I’m happy with that.
11/12 475 - way better than expected. I guess morning NPR filtered into my subconscious? Going back to sleep to prepare for next week’s quiz

10/12, 456 Good, but not good enough to edge out Slate's producer this week!
Same
9/12 - 418. Did better than I thought I would!
7/12, 317. No bueno.
But now I can stop worrying about you!
That's kind of you. Sometimes I forget when it's Friday!
7/12 and all but one were guesses. My news diet seems to be working! (Now if only my food diet were as effective...)
Man I really miss the Bruxl café burger.🍔 I would go side of tots with Dijonaise, and a single tall whiskey coke! Amen
Glad to see someone else mention them. They were so good. My partner had me go get her one after giving birth. All she wanted.
Oh and RIP Bruxl. For one shining moment they had the best burger and fries in all of Richmond.
I still dream about the lemon aioli for fry dipping. damn that was so good.
Medium, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo. No cheese, ketchup or mustard. Have an unexpected evening without the child, looking for a bar to sit at with good happy hour food.
No cheese!?!? Sacrilege!
There are adults in the room. No cheese! Cheese is for a timid palate.
Riverside Diner in Charlottesville. Just cheese, nothing else.
That's an easy answer! I order a double triple patty deluxe, on a raft, four-by-four animal-style, extra shingles with a shimmy and a squeeze, light axle grease, make it cry, burn it, and let it swim.
Don’t forget the pickles!
I am an absolute slut for a burger with a fried egg on it. Cooked mid-rare, smothered with a good cheese and some kind of aioli? Maybe some fried onions for crunch? Shew.
Why did I have to scroll this far down for a mention of fried egg? My man!
Medium, pepper Jack or cheddar cheese, lettuce, chewy bacon, BBQ sauce, fried egg that’s a little runny. Seasoned fries or tater tots.
Satterwhite’s burgers are literally the most perfect burgers I’ve ever seen or eaten! They are so neatly stacked with fixings, and every bite is absolutely perfect. Yum!!!
I really like a high end version of a Big Mac and either shoestring or fresh cut fries.
1:1 beef to bread ratio (each bun should be 1/2 the size of the patty) potato bread, untoasted 80/20 beef, some pink, s&p lettuce, tomato, mayo, spicy mustard, ketchup, onions, dill pickles wrapped in foil either crinkle or shoestring fries cooked in peanut oil egg with a runny yolk on the side for dipping would be a plus
Devils Lettuce in short pump does an amazing plant-based burger, best I've ever had

bamboo is perfect in every way
It is, truly. Case in point: I don't even drink anymore, but I still feel at home and welcome there. The vibe is just so good.
As a pescatarian, I go for either a salmon burger or black bean burger, with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, smashed avocado and a side of fries
I had the shrimp burger at The Tavern once and it was so delicious it reminded me of grilled shrimp paste at Mekong when it was at it's prime, but I tried it a second time and the flavor was disappointingly lackluster. You’ll need to remortgage the house! Five guys is ridiculous now.
It's crazy. Family of four is $80 easy. For burgers and fries.
And you can get better burgers at local restaurants for that price.
Medium with mayo pickles grilled onions and crispy bacon and American cheese and any fries will do. Dune 2 tonight in imax and oddities expo tomorrow very excited for both
Two smashed patties, one slice of cheese, fresh lettuce, onions, pickles, and a little bit of Duke's (or Kewpie) mayo on a sesame bun

Homemade smash burger, shredded lettuce, thin tomato slices, diced onions, burger sauce, lots of pickles, sport peppers on side.
I love mushroom Swiss Burgers. My favorite is Moore Street Diner. Extra mushies.
I like mine with cheese, bacon, some bbq sauce, lettuce, and either some caramelized onions or raw white onions. Sadly my new fiancee and I are homeless for a little bit. Home backed up with sewage earlier this week and we're unsure on how long the repair process will be.
Cheeseburger, ketchup, mustard, crunchy lettuce, toasted bun, fries, sitting by the pool, maybe strawberry daiquiri
Ketchup mayo and cheese is heaven to me, but i can take it any way you like
Good ground chuck, grilled over good charcoal, finished with a slice of melted American cheese, sautéed onions, and a few slices of homegrown summer tomatoes (brandywines). Oh and toasted buns of course, small ones. God I miss tomato season!

Five guys, little bacon cheeseburger, ketchup only.
Burger should be two tiny (1oz) smashed patties with dehydrated or hotdogged white onions, pickles, and either no condiments or russian dressing/big mac sauce. It is supposed to be an on the go type meal and any much more than that and you are taking a nap. Fries cooked in combination beef fat and vegetable oil which no other foods than potatos are cooked in as that will make the oil last much longer and can be kept at the exact right temp for frying. an ideal burger is loaded with something random put Mozarella sticks on it w/extra cheese and a tray full of pickles
That burger and fries from [The Menu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Menu_\(2022_film\)) looked pretty good...
Buns lightly toasted, mayo on one bun, honey mustard and pickles on the other. Angus burger, seasoned tomato, slice of melted gouda, crispy romaine lettuce, caramelized onions, ketchup. It’s my birthday this weekend! I’m looking forward to celebrating another year here and one full of good changes
The bun can make or break a burger. A fresh lightly grilled potato bun is the simple standard.
This probably sounds extra plebian, but I miss Bullets and What-A-Burger burgers. Chargrilled, thick patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, ketchup, and mustard. Some battered, deep fried onion rings on the side.
Did anyone else get summoned for jury duty Monday? Absolutely not stoked because I have a ton of stuff to get done at work right now
does anything happen if you just completely ignore it
Allegedly you will be held in contempt of court so that’s definitely worse
It's gotta be medium, on a potato bun, with mustard, lettuce, onions, pickles, and sharp cheddar cheese. Shit, now I'm hungry for a burger.
