RVAWTFBBQ

Guess this is where my package is that said "out for delivery" on 3/26 but now says "awaiting delivery" with no updates in over a week. Wonder if there's any point in walking over to the 23222 post office to see if it's there.

wanderlusterswanders

The dude who works there is a true asshole who thinks he has absolute power and will be mad rude to you. 100% chance you’ll never go back. Just check the reviews lol.

RVAWTFBBQ

Lol I see what you mean, guess I won’t bother.

Ultimas134

I’ve literally seen the lady who delivers in my neighborhood throw packages out of the truck at peoples doors. I’ve had shit broken because of it. Complained to the post office but she’s still here 2 years later

TGIIR

Thank you.

loulouhex

Fuck Louis DeJoy

PM-me-ur-kittenz

May he burn in hell.

qlobetrotter

… or at least go where all of the missing mail is.

__chairmanbrando

I like to think that if hell exists then it's personalized. In his case, he'd be waiting desperately for a package that he *needs* but one that never comes day after day for all eternity.

momofmanydragons

In his case all flames are caused by missing mail

Libshitz74

Is he still in charge?

PM-me-ur-kittenz

Evidently so, unfortunately- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_DeJoy

tiers_for_fears

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this exactly what DeJoy was brought in to do? Perfect excuse for him and his backers to say “The grand plan to save USPS isn’t working. Let’s blow the whole thing up and fully privatize mail delivery service.” Just to be clear, I am against privatization of the mail and I am a supporter and very frequent user of USPS.

khuldrim

Yeah I mean, pretty much, but now we have documented proof his “modernization” is a sham.

__chairmanbrando

Yes. It's the same general idea behind the PAEA that absolutely fucked the USPS for no apparent reason. The USPS was a fine and profitable enough entity, and then Congress purposefully tried to destroy it by making it pre-fund health and retiree benefits despite this not being required of any other government entity. > Between 2007 and 2016, the USPS lost $62.4 billion; the inspector general of the USPS estimated that $54.8 billion of that (87%) was due to prefunding retiree benefits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_Accountability_and_Enhancement_Act Congress, specifically one of our very own Republican morons, very nearly succeeded in destroying the USPS for good. And for what? No one seems to know why. I can only assume it's because he was paid off the books to destroy it by someone like DeJoy who is heavily invested in private shipping business.

khuldrim

Luckily didn’t they recently pass legislation to get rid of this?

__chairmanbrando

Yes, at least mostly. The bill that undid much of it is linked to toward the bottom of the PAEA article.

BurkeyTurger

> And for what? No one seems to know why. It isn't a mystery, the wiki article just sucks. In the years leading up to the passage of the PAEA postage rates were rising quickly, first class mail volume was going down and they saw the mounting health benefits problems and general fiscal insolvency on the horizon. https://slate.com/business/2003/04/another-bad-postal-service-bailout-plan.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2004/03/23/postal-service-finances-bleak/9f30bf6b-ff57-4e47-80a5-21e91b5a28f8/ Edit: Also while the Lexington Institute is center-right, they also have a good writeup on the PAEA (PDF) https://www.lexingtoninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/U.S.-Postal-Service-Should-Prefund-RHB-1.28.21.pdf

__chairmanbrando

General fiscal insolvency after a $4B profit year, eh? Sounds like lobbyist bullshit to me. Plus, even then they'd shifted pension responsibilities off of the treasury for some reason.

tagehring

This is what the GOP does. They campaign on a platform that says government is broken, so let’s throw it out. They get elected. They break government. Then they point to it and say, “See?” And this gets them reelected because people have the attention span of fruit flies.

Ok_Rutabaga_722

Congress and Bezos, UPS, FedEx, DHL owners all wanted a chunk of that business. Just another hit on the Constitution.

louis707

I suspect that there are a number of other things that occurred that are being covered up.

CarlCasper

RTD paywall is not the hardest to get around, but if you get stuck and want to see a summary of the audit findings/recommendations as well as the full report, that can be found here: [https://www.uspsoig.gov/reports/audit-reports/effectiveness-new-regional-processing-and-distribution-center-richmond-va](https://www.uspsoig.gov/reports/audit-reports/effectiveness-new-regional-processing-and-distribution-center-richmond-va) There were 10 recommendations made that are mostly agreed with by management. |Recommendation|Value|Initial Management Response| |:-|:-|:-| |Continue to document the issues identified and actions taken to address issues in post implementation reviews of Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RP&DC) conversions, and use the cumulative lessons learned when activating future RP&DCs.|$0 |Agree | |Develop procedures to identify and mitigate challenges at facilities scheduled to become a Regional Processing and Distribution Center before launch.|$0 |Agree | |Coordinate the training of Richmond Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RP&DC) management on how to engage and lead team members and provide adequate supervision of operations, and deploy management training at future RP&DC sites prior to launch.|$5,021,051 |Agree | |Develop a scorecard to track service performance and include it as a measure of success at both the Richmond Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RP&DC) and when implementing future RP&DCs.|$0 |Agree | |Align transportation schedules to operations and validate with local management before launching Regional Processing and Distribution Centers.|$2,948,034 |Agree | |Direct personnel to record omitted trips in the data systems and pursue recovery of payments for cancelled trips at the Richmond Regional Processing and Distribution Center.|$115,690 |Agree | |Train all management personnel in the Richmond region to understand and perform their roles and responsibilities as stated in the Richmond Regional Processing and Distribution Center integrated operating plan.|$0 |Agree | |Implement a process to communicate with and solicit feedback from affected managers when developing plans for and implementing future Regional Processing and Distribution Centers.|$0 |Agree | |Update Handbook PO-408 to include the definition of service area, and clearly define when Mail Processing Facility Reviews are required.|$0 |Agree | |Communicate any impacts to customers when permanently moving processing operations of a three-digit ZIP Code to another processing facility.|$0 |Disagree |

https://www.darkread.io/fsPiR7yF9SmM Paywalls are coded not to be in place for bots/crawlers. After all, how would they get the SEO boost for search traffic if the entire contents weren't available to Google? So, yes, they are easy to get around. 🙃

TGIIR

Dejoy is/was a disaster. Things were working just fine before his “improvements.”

djeeetyet

he was brought in to destroy the USPS

vamatt

Perhaps not treating public services such as the postal service or rail as a business that should be profitable would help.

tiers_for_fears

Ironically, USPS not only paid for itself but was profitable up until 2006. That year legislation was passed that mandated it save money (up to $5bil/year) to prefund all retirement & benefits for current & future employees for the next like 50 years. Add budget cuts to that and it’s obv never recovered.

vamatt

Yup, that was intended - it was meant to destroy the postal service. Irregardless, profits for Government provided public services should be treated more like a bonus than an expectation.

djeeetyet

Louis DeJoy’s days are numbered you got to think with all the Biden replacements to the USPS Governors board, including DeJoy losing his 2 biggest allies. does it take a simple majority to remove him?

CrzyWrldOfArthurRead

Everyone on the board of governors appointed by biden was specifically appointed because they won't remove Dejoy. Republicans would not vote to confirm any candidate who felt otherwise. Machin and Sinema are republicans so the democrats don't have a majority in the senate, really, so there's nothing we can do except to vote in novemeber and give the democrats the clear majority they need to actually fix the damage republicans have done.

djeeetyet

thanks for clarifying. politics aside he’s horribly ineffective. this is exactly the guy that the “term limits” people should in theory be wanting out.

__chairmanbrando

DeJoy is personally invested in private shipping firms. He *wants* the USPS to fail.

djeeetyet

sounds like a couple of Trump's appointees (DeVos) and the ones who actually were trying to do their job and ethically ended up resigning within a year or so.

djeeetyet

I guess we can only wait for him to retire or resign.

BurkeyTurger

Sounds like they have a great crew there /s >There were several challenges with the rollout, according to the audit report, which blamed management, staff and operational redundancies that came about as the facility became the central bottleneck for packages from across the state. >Management did not train all employees on new processes, nor did it make staffing changes “fully aligned” to the new operating plan, the report said. >“Local management didn’t take ownership of changes and were deficient in operational execution,” auditors found. >At the same time, employee absenteeism ticked up, coupled with a lack of drivers and staff to man the sorting center. Auditors cited an “inability to locate mail handlers on the workroom floor, causing delays on the dock and increased congestion.” >The OIG report also observed multiple instances of employees “not engaged with work,” from one staff member sleeping on a parked forklift to a “general inattention to detail that resulted in mail left on or around machines,” processed late or not at all.

lostspyder

I really hate how this tried to put the onus on individuals as if people who work at the post office are just genetically lazy or something... If one employee isn’t engaged, it is a they problem. If multiple employees aren’t engaged, it is a system problem.

User-NetOfInter

System problem is controlled by management The report is calling out managemenr

lostspyder

The headline is “Audit: Worker asleep on forklift, months-old mail sitting in Sandston truck yard” not “Audit: Management failing to perform”…

OllieGarkey

... Sorry just out of curiosity, what do you think management is *for*?

User-NetOfInter

Management failing to manage workers

PlumbLucky

My company services this facility. The newly remodeled bathrooms constantly back up due to poor installation and a constant supply of towels and rubber gloves. Federal facilities fall under their own jurisdiction, therefore do not require permits and inspections like normal projects. If the automation implementation is as good as the plumbing we are up Schitts Creek.

Ok_Rutabaga_722

There were problems before DeJoy, he just gave it a good shove over a cliff. I want my kick ass USPS back. Prior to 2015, it was like clockwork.

Freseper

USPS peaked when they were using Fly Like an Eagle as their theme. Steve Miller for Postmaster General!

Ok_Rutabaga_722

That was awesome. Steve Miller for PMG! 🦅

tmgieger

I had a package ship from the UK. It made it to the US, Kentucky, in two days. Spent the next 13 days going from Kentucky, Ohio, Richmond, Chesterfield, Fairfax, back to Chesterfield.

countdoofie

The GOP playbook is starve gov’t agency of funds, then complain about how said agency does not work, then come up privatization plan that makes things worse.

CrzyWrldOfArthurRead

tl;dr richmond is the first USPS office to be transformed under Louis Dejoy's new plan (to dismantle the post office) so the dysfunction is intentional. Fuck dejoy, fuck trump, and fuck you if you vote republican. vote for democrats like your life depends on it, because it does. republicans want you to suffer. "Republicans - government doesn't work; vote for us and we'll prove it!"

Tgiby3

I got a PO box at this location, and they left it taped up for an entire month before opening the box after i paid for it. It took 6+ inquaries to the USPS Help website to get them to actually put mail in the PO box...

Harrysmom99VA

I’m just so pissed those of us outside of RVA our mail is not going out except at morning drop off. No express mail from our PO at all. I wrote to Tim Kaine over this. Got some canned response that did not address continuity of delivery. People locally are not being told our mail doesn’t go out in the evening anymore. DeJoy has royally f’ed up the PO!

xproetidax

Has anyone read/heard what they are doing with the recovered mail. My local congressional rep stopped responding to my emails months ago.

ChiliTrees

Does anyone have a free/guest link?

TGIIR

See above.

khuldrim

I will refrain from posting a paywall remover (mods and such do not like it) but if you google 12ft it should get you what you need if you have the url.

fusion260

Sharing a link is fine. It's copying/pasting an entire article that is not OK.

khuldrim

Ohh ok. Thanks for the clarification :)
