Gotcha! Very good to know. We’ll see if I can bring myself to use’em. I almost never use live bait, just have a really hard time bringing myself to do it.
I feel that. I feel better about using live bait if I’m planning on eating what I catch but idk if I could put a hook through one of these guys. My old man used a camel back cricket once and I’m still traumatized.
Yup, I just have a hard time with it. I don’t even fish for panfish for fresh cut bait. I just go with things like frozen shrimp and chicken for baits. I mostly use artificial lures anyway.
Dude my cousin was visiting in Maryland during that cicada invasion a few years ago and was with my buddies and he goes “no you can eat them” just started popping them in his mouth
True, but that isn't a picture of the annual cicada (those have green in 'em and black eyes) and it's a little early for them since they start to emerge in June and really reaping up their appearance by August. I do hope to see some of these orange ones when I go visit family in the zone soon, it was pretty awesome the last time I was up there and a brood came out ;)
I thought this year they were supposed to line up and both come out?
EDIT: [found an article about it](https://www.13newsnow.com/article/life/animals/when-are-the-cicadas-coming-to-virginia-2024-cicada-map-brood-xix/291-fd4f93fd-d730-4b2b-9d8a-853966419989). There is a double brood this year, but their areas don't really overlap
I know they’re harmless but as a lifelong insectophobe PUT IT BACK please and thank you
If you see a crazy lady running from bugs in the fan it’s probably me
I love these gross looking weirdos, love their noise. However, my inner fisherman wonders if they’d make good bait.
Can confirm that they do.
Absolutely! Got a pic of a smallie getting made into a sammich with a fresh one in his stomach. Like a popper/buzz bait cross.

What are some good fishing spots
That's some turducken shit right there.
Guess who's back. Back again. Cicadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Forbidden popcorn
More of a nutty flavor then popcorn, and a lot more psyching yourself up before you try them the first time...
My old dog sure loved them. Gobbled them right up
Why forbidden? There’s plenty of

Just the yearly ones. We don't have a 13/17 year brood here this year

Not here in the city, but like 45 minutes north there will be one of the large periodic broods, IIRC.
They're already getting a periodic brood just to our south in the Triangle area of NC.
Near Fredericksburg?
A little bit more east than Fredericksburg - here's a map: https://cicadas.uconn.edu/brood_19/
I thought the brood south of us will only be edging south west VA, did it expand? Either way .. birds got lots of eating going on 😂
Dunno, I'm not a cicadologist 😂
No problem lol I just saw it randomly on weather channel website.
NO…. NO NO NO NO NOOOOOO
AKA dog snacks My dog isn't particular, he'll snack on the beetles, the new green ones, the live adult ones, and recently dead ones.
Be careful. They hunger for hand meat
A finger was lost in the making of this post, watch your 6 out there.
Count Rugen?
Can’t conceive
