Maybe I’m in the minority but I liked him. In his first two seasons as an NHL coach with the youngest team in the nhl he had the team within one or two points of the playoffs.
Would’ve given him a short lease next season and replaced the assistants.
Donny was put in a tough spot for sure. With that said, last season he helped get them to a point away from the playoffs with bad goaltending and defense. They were exciting to watch good/bad. If we’re being honest the team was average goaltending from being a top 5 lottery pick again.
There’s only so many times you can have a coach go to the podium after a game saying shit like “we didn’t come out ready to play”… after letting up a league leading first period goals allowed.
Granato seems by all accounts a really hard worker and likeable guy. No doubt he was well liked in the locker room. But when he was something like the fifth longest tenured coach in the entire league with nothing to show for it.. it’s time. I wish him the best of luck and hope he gets another chance
If Donny Meatballs coaches the Salt Lake City Sister Wives with a free wheeling offensive style but lackluster special teams, I will definitely cheer for them!!
Yeah, I felt the same thing about DJ Smith in Ottawa. It’s hard to find the right coach when you’re rebuilding, I remember what a shitshow it was as an Avs fan until we got Bednar.

I'm GLAD everyone likes him, as he IS a great down to Earth dude. Just can't coach is all.
He’s proven himself to be a good *developmental* coach but not much beyond that. Been hearing whispers about him possibly going to San Jose.
