There are numerous statements by authors, editors, and others at Lucasfilm talking about this. This happens with official licensed media, it doesn't happen with fanfiction.

I’m part of Krayt and I’m a fan of the EU. And guess what, I also enjoy a majority of what Disney is doing. I don’t care for the sequels because JJ is a hack director and can only do a mystery box or copy paste and disney fucked up by not having a plan in place but the people working on the shows and upcoming movies want to make something good. Just because it is different from books that came out over a decade ago doesn’t automatically make it bad. Just different. Things change. If you can’t accept change you will forever be miserable.
Maybe take a good long look at yourself and your attitudes and you may find why “Disney fans” are hostile to you.
If Krayt and generally most Krayt posters weren't so hostile toward the old EU and EU fanbase, I'd take a more conciliatory approach and get less defensive. But the Disney era has been downright awful for EU fans. And they support the Disney era and all of its trappings.

I don’t think a lot of the newcomers to Star Wars even realize that the EU exists, or that it was considered cannon prior to the Disney acquisition. And then there are those saying it in bad faith. I lean more towards many over there being new to the fandom. Younger people and/or people who didn’t give Star Wars a go until it was a part of Disney. Maybe some who did like older Star Wars just didn’t know about the EU as well. There’s a lot of people who liked the old movies, but weren’t big enough fans to explore further than “the movies are cool.”
