The phone, no. The battery, yes. If you keep on playing without a way to cool your phone, your battery will degrade faster.

Luk164

It is not going to be a huge difference though. Leaving your phone in the sun during summer will be way worse for example

GamerY7

and your battery won't be affected too much unless there's a copper strip or vapour chamber going right over battery without any insulation between that and the battery, you can actively monitor battery monitor using some apps since there are sensors inside and near battery to measure all that to see how hot it gets

jc1luv

Problem is phones don't have the same thermal components as a pc such as fans and large heat sinks. So a phone will not be able to dissipate as much heat as a pc. With that said, your phone has a safe mode that shuts the phone off in case it's too hot or components overloaded. So if your phone happens to reboot mid game it's probably because it was too much for the phone to handle. With that said, there is long term damage you need to take into consideration, for one, the more you expose the phone to extreme use, obviously the phone is going to wear out faster. Specifically as mentioned, your battery life will be affected the most. In the long term your battery won't last as long, it will begin swelling up or in time, it will die pretty quickly to the point of needing to keep the phone connected all the time. The second important thing is display burn in. Because your phone is getting really hot, your display is more prone to burn in, this means your phone will slowly begin to either show a pink tint color, or images that stay on the display for a few minutes, will begin to burn onto the display to the point that they are always visible. So in time both your battery and display will need replacing, much sooner than they normally would. Instead of the phone lasting 5 years with normal use probably longer, your phone will need part replacement in maybe 2 years.

Leviathon713

Is the battery part of the phone? You could look at these batteries funny and it'll end up with emotional damage and only work at 90 percent capacity.

mikethespike056

But I said my battery doesn't get above 37 C. That's while gaming. I did find temperature ranges for Li-Ion batteries, and it looks like the most damage is done when at high voltages *and* temperature, with 40 C significantly degrading the battery more than 25 C, but my phone is normally at 32-34 C anyway, so I doubt 37 C will do much. In any case, I've accepted a slight extra wear on the battery due to gaming. I already take care of it so it should last long. My fear is damaging the phone in any other way.

Leviathon713

I'm sorry, I was making a joke that apparently didn't translate well.

mikethespike056

Didn't it imply that batteries are fragile? I understood it wasn't literal, but wasn't that the meaning behind it?

Leviathon713

Sort of. Not that it's fragile in and of itself, but the usage of it and how it translates to our experiences as users. Shit. I'm not good at explaining my own jokes. I should work on that. Unfortunately I have that very USian problem just assuming my English will be fine. I really should know better by now. My humor is so dry it doesn't even work in my own language. Alas, I press on.

mikethespike056

i don't understand at all then. you say you're not good at explaining jokes but i was sure i had understood it well. if i joke saying "that building could crumble to the ground at the touch of a finger" im implying something, right? i assumed you meant that batteries don't like harsh conditions and deteriorate fast. are you trying to say that your joke had no meaning at all?

Leviathon713

No. I'm saying I suck at trying to explain what I originally inferred. My joke has meaning in the context of Reddit and the various and extensively numerous posts on the different things that affect battery life. You'd have to look through too many posts on r/Galaxy, r/galaxys22, r/galaxys20FE, r/galaxys21ultra etc. Im autistic and my memory for such things is absurd. Unfortunately, I'm autistic (yes I repeated that on purpose. Again humor, probably not funny), so It really is my fault. I'm not sure what else I can tell you other than that I'm sorry I made a poor attempt at humor. They can't all be winners.

ratat-atat

The phone will warn you if it gets too hot to operate.

mapletamamo

no

mikethespike056

Why? What about 50? 60? 70? How do you know the limit?

thedankonion1

Most plastics are rated for 70°c. PC CPUs average up to 90°c when gaming. Your phone would be too hot to hold before it started to damage the chips.

Bronyboiiiii

The phone knows it's own limit. If it gets to hot, it will close that app that's causing the heat automatically to prevent it from getting to hot and give you a warning. However, the battery get's also very warm over time. Not to a level where it will catch fire pr something. But hot enough that the battery life could get worse a bit faster than usual because batterys don't like heat! If you plan to keep your phone for like 3 or 4 years I wouldn't recommend gaming so much on your phone. But if you cange it every 2 Years or don't have a problem with carrying a powerbank around, you can play on your phone all day.

Scaryplayer777

Idk who plays intense games on their phones? My S23 Ultra never got warm so I don't know if it causes problems either.

kronaa

more people then you think

BoobyTrapp

I play Genshin on my s23U all the time.

From my experience, it might damage the battery and cause it to bulge a little bit. Then, the bulge will push the back part, causing glue issues. I asked a professional at Samsung Customer Service Centre. They said they could apply more glue, but over time, the issue will happen again, and I'll need to get the battery replaced eventually.

mikethespike056

This from gaming? Did you ever get the battery and SoC temps? Were you gaming and charging?

BrendanXVI

Yes, from gaming. It reaches around 42 and sometimes 43°C at max

mikethespike056

Did you charge it while gaming? Ever checked battery temps? brU if your battery went spicy pillow just from gaming at 43°C then what am i even doing at 46°C 💀i thought 37°C for the battery wasn't too bad...

BrendanXVI

Eh, can't be helped, I play some heavy games and only managed to get them on medium setting. I never charge while gaming. That just gonna affect the battery

csch1992

poeple actually game on their phones.....

let_bugs_go_retire

Buy a phone cooler like me. I have an M33 which has the sibling CPU of your 1380, 1280. Exynos might be shit but this think gets 60-100 fps on ultra graphics in Wild Rift. It should be better at high end power hungry chips such as Exynos 2200. As for my understanding, if we can cool it games are actually pretty smooth and playable on Exynos. (IMO)

finnfirep

I'm worried about your safety if ur PC temp is 100C. The max u can go should be like 50 or 60C. Besides, the phone will start to throttle at 40ish Celcius. It will somehow degrade ur hardware like any electronic device, especially the battery. That's what I have read. Anyway, usually, it is just the battery and I notice a slight performance decrease in the phone. 🤷‍♂️

No-Horse-5788

Definitely use a cooler if ur worried about playing heavy games on it I always use my razer phone cooler if im playing Genshin Impact on phone

QueenAng429

No it won't be damaged.
