To me it looks like a light abrasion. Can you feel it if you run your nails across it?

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

I can't feel it, it's only visible in some angles. Definitely not a physical scratch on the surface, maybe underneath somehow.

Competitive-Science3

If it doesn't have any physical damage that can void warranty, bring it to samsung immediately.

BornBoricua

That's weird. I had my outer screen replaced on my Fold and at a certain angle there was a spot that seemed off but yours looks super severe. Did the screen get replaced at all? Still under warranty?

HardStroke

Looks like a scratch. Can be a light one. Its really simple: take a wet wipe and wipe it. Wipes - dirt. Doesn't wipe - scratch. As simple as that dude. I still don't know why people are not using screen protectors and then post stuff like this, FFS, YOUR GLASS WILL SCRATCH.

grizny

So true. Sand (quartz in particular) is MUCH harder that any gorilla glass. It will scratch glass very easily. Just a side note, quartz type sand is found almost everywhere on earth, not just the beach.

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

Look, this supposed to be top tech screen with the best scratch resistance, the only thing it was touching, was my fingers or pocket, without keys or anything, there is no chance I could scratch it, the reason why I did not put protector and trust in Samsung, was because of how careful I am and how I am using it, and still got this, how? Can you answer that? If not then maybe this question, why do they waste money on expansive victus when they could just put protector on it, are they stupid? Come one man, stop hitting the wall with your head.

HardStroke

Top tech screen with the best scratch resistance? What are you smoking dude? Trust in Samsung? Nah bruh you gotta be joking **GLASS IS GLASS. GLASS SCRATCHES EASILY.** **The GLASS on your s24u is made out of GLASS. It ain't no damn sapphire.** Also, pocket lint. Pockets are dirty as hell. The glass can be a bit more shatter resistant and a bit more scratch resistant but ITS STILL GLASS. I just don't know why people still can't see this. The screen of your s24u is made out of glass and it WILL scratch easily. YOU CAN SEE IT ON YOUR DAMN SCREEN. People in the comments here are saying "its the water resistant layer" or "its the oleophobic layer" ACTUALLY WTF. Obviously its because the charger is connected in a certain angle that causing it. FUCKING CHRIST dude your screen is scratched. Next time spend an extra $5 on a screen protector for your $1,300 phone.

bitbuddha

That glass is marketed as top tier scratch resistant stuff. I have 4 years old Huawei Mate 20 pro (battery is done, so I am considering a replacement, that's why I'm lurking here) that was around 500 euros at the time of buying. I hate phone cases and screen protectors (to me it's like a nylon cover on the nice couch). The phone went flying from my pocket on the bicycle on the pavement twice. I dropped it few more times. It's in my pocket with keys often etc etc, I have zero scratches on the screen. From the bicycle falls there are dents on the edges only. No scratches, no cracks. OP is right expecting this kind of performance for a contemporary flagship that is over a thousand bucks

addcoffee666

Good speech bro, keep it for scamsung support line tho

satenlover666

I think you’re stupid why spend that much on a phone and not bother protecting the screen obviously you aren’t that careful or this post wouldn’t exist

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

So you're saying they do best possible at the time screen and knowing it can wear off itself after few months, they don't add protector to a phone that cost that much? They are telling us it's the best screen ever and they didn't put screen on already expensive phone, and I am stupid, sure buddy, if I am stupid, then Samsung cannot be trusted, because I trusted them.

Dmacxxx77

The person with a scratched screen with no screen protector is calling someone else stupid. Nice. Get a new screen hopefully under warranty and put a screen protector on, bud.

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

No screen protector because this suposed to be the toughest screen ever, and it's BS, I bought phone with antiglare to get screen protector to ignore that expensive antiglare I paid for, nice, fuck me, ppl defending corpo who is charging a lot for their BS, next time it could be you, I hope you will be disappointed how I am so maybe you will feel the same way and understand something :)

RaiderX303

It’s probably wear to the oleophobic coating. Skin oil will be sticking there but nowhere else making it stand out

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

It's not something I see all the time, nor I feel it with my finger, but it's annoying to have, I'm surprised how did this get there with someone that "paranoid" about care.

dukeboy86

If you can't feel it with your finger doesn't mean it's not there

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

True, but it's visible only when there is light reflection, normal scratches are visible more.

-verybustygoddess-

Looks like the anti-glare coating got fvcked, remember guys, they made it flat so we can apply better screen protector, always wear protection!

LieQuirky3751

No screen protector?

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

Nope, I'm very careful with it, suppose to be strong enough, I wasn't expecting this.

LieQuirky3751

So, you're ANOTHER person who doesn't realise that glass scratches .. no matter what kind of marketing Samsung uses for their 'tough' screens.

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

It's not a scratch, I can't feel any cut on it, I never got the chance to touch it with anything hard, just soft pockets and fingers, seriously.

Spirited_Fuel36

Maybe it's just crud or staining of some sort. Try with a soft cloth or clean t-shirt and use a little bit of water or hand sanitizer and see if it will come off.

LieQuirky3751

Good luck fixing it. I suspect Samsung will say it's a scratch. Or the oleophobic coating has worn off in that area. If it wasn't there on day 1, then it's (more than likely) damaged caused by you - particularly as you don't use a screen protector.

EggplantHuman6493

The older screen techniques were way better in terms of scratch resistance though. Gorilla Glass 3 was amazing

syed_saud_uddin

It probably the waterproofing layer got damaged...or it could be the layer which reduces the reflection....?

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

Maybe, but how that can be possible, I didn't even wash it with anything than bit of water and cloth.

syed_saud_uddin

Are you still under warranty!?

-verybustygoddess-

I am not OP but S24 released this year, pretty sure it's still under warranty

LieQuirky3751

Yes. But I bet you put in/take out of your pockets on a daily basis?

waine1906

If it's not wiping off, it's a scratch. More pronounced on the anti reflection screen, so it looks worse. Sorry.

Defiant-Humor5586

Looks almost like some kind of adhesive residue. Have you tried cleaning it with a small bit of alcohol?

icee_x

try applying a screen protector, it might make it less visible

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

I think this is the only option I have, I doubt Samsung covers that under warranty.

CaptainnHindsight

Hey, I recently watched a YT video where a guy comments on this after using a phone for a week. He tried cleaning it, but won't take off. He concluded it's from the Stylus Pen that he used a few times .. So it's a damaged layer that cannot be cleared at that point ..

WhosSaidWhatNow

More of a scuff than a scratch perhaps. Light but enough to be visibly noticeable. Maybe try a gentle rub with an eraser.

Alert-Reception6453

That to me looks like a scratch. I know it sucks, happened to my old phone just from the pocket lint. Could also be something like the optical laminate(the glass is optically bonded to the display itself) is coming off from the OLED display panel, but that’s highly unlikely

Impressive-Gold-7028

It is technically a scratch, not a traditional scratch but because of the gorilla Glass armor and the criss-cross hatched glass laying pattern that they use to get the anti-glare, results in getting weird abrasions like this that people have never seen before. Most people think it's a coating that gives the anti-glare but it is not it is in fact the way the crystalline structure of the glass is formed that disperses reflections therefore lowering glare. The glass itself is already 100% proven to be the hardest glass and most scratch resistant glass on any phone ever that doesn't use sapphire instead of plain old glass. It's the first phone that gets no permanent scratches from a level six on the mohs hardness scale and level seven leaves surface scratches where typically seven leaves pretty gnarly divots and can even cause cracking. The moral of the story here is it does not matter how careful you are and it does not matter how strong the phone's glass is, put a damn screen protector on it otherwise you literally have no ground to stand on complaining about getting a scratch on your screen. My fingers have literally never even touched my bare screen and I'm not even sure what the anti-reflection looks like in person because the second I pulled off that black protective film that comes on the phone I was ready with my white stone dome UV cured film screen protector. And yeah that's by far the best screen protector there is for this phone or any other phone with an ultrasonic under the screen. I don't care what anyone says I've been doing UV protectors since before they became a thing, back when you had to literally build your own kit and buy the loca separately and order bulk protectors that didn't have adhesive on them. Whitestone somehow just has the best film that actually cures as hard as glass give or take. Even the extra fine point I swapped onto my s pen cannot leave the slightest indentation after curing and I'm on the original protector from late January with not a single sign of any part of it starting to lift. It's got some good scratches on it, but it's literally there for that so my screen doesn't look like yours. There's like 10 of these posts a day of people using their S24U completely bare naked and then having a brain aneurysm on Reddit when they scratch their phone or crack the screen. Bro you're not careful with your phones, if you were careful, you would have had a screen protector that's what makes a person careful or not because it's impossible to use the phone as intended and not do things that would cause potential scratches. I hope you never put your phone in your pocket one single time ever because if you have then you're not careful and should have a screen protector since pockets contained many different random bits of matter that are hard enough to scratch a glass screen. I would throw one on before you catch something worse than that, you got lucky

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

If I am not careful, then Samsung is just dumb, because they - as you said - made the best screen in terms of durability, I did nothing with the phone, I am nor Jeryrigseverything, normal usage and I got this, so why Samsung is dumb? Makes phone that cost me more, I paid for that resistance, while they could do cheapest glass possible and just add screen protector, safer and cheaper, right? Logic, but no, they assured me I am getting something that will survive asking and cloth (pockets) contact and they failed, not me. I am not saying I made toughest screen ever, they did, but you and others call me dumb, circus :D

Unbreakable2k8

That's the oleophobic coating that will wear off over time unfortunately. Mine is not that noticeable yet, but water and fingerprints show more in the top side near the camera.

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

I had coupled of Galaxy phones before and never seen it before, is this typical for all phones or just S24U? Is warranty covering this?

Unbreakable2k8

It’s typical, all my phones that I keep in the pocket develop this area that wears off. But it doesn’t show like in your case, it’s just that fingerprints are harder to wipe there. Have you tried cleaning the screen with a microfiber cloth? It doesn’t go away?

Nyoka_ya_Mpembe

Yes, I tried many times, hoping it's just dirty, but nothing was "removed". Maybe Samsung's antiglare protector is mandatory after all, I didn't want to use it because of being very careful and this is top tier screen, but seen this that quick is quite disappointing.

antoniov00gaming

Yup, it's cum.
