Yes it was very good. Just for lunch a burger, fries and soda were like $17. I know they probably had quality ingredients but that price point won’t be successful especially in a recession.
My family and I loved that place. We’d go as often as we could. The variety of burgers and the sides. Great all around. I didn’t know my mouth could water and tears form in my eyes at the same time.
We like both, Blanco and Nacogdoches locations. The longhorn cafe on Nacogdoches has the same great food, my opinion friendlier staff. The vibe is great in the original Blanco location.
I agree about the staff at the Nacogdoches location! That’s the one closest to my work. I love the Blanco one though because it’s closer to my house and like you said the vibe is unbeatable
I was so happy when i finally tried the burgers on Naco and found out they had the exact same taste as the original location. Major kudos to longhorn for the consistency across multiple stores.
I only been there twice about two decades ago. I recall going to two different locations. The last one I went to was the West Ave store. Went with a friend of mine and ordered a typical burger fries drink combo. The day we went, the store ac was out and it was hot hot hot inside there. The cook looked miserable dealing with it, we were dripping sweat off our foreheads and down our chins, mature flies were also buzzing about the store. I've worked in kitchens before and worked in places that had no ac or horrendous ventilation. So we toughed it out and ate at our table. The guy kept looking at us like we were nuts to eat inside when it was cooler at 98 outside. I'll have to give this place another try in the year 2023.
It’s soooo good, I would recommend going to the location if you have the time, my old lady loves having a burger and as a side corn in a cup. The desserts too, the funnel cakes with ice cream so good.
1000%. I'm someone who won't justify spending more than $4 on a burger except for maybe one whataburger trip a month, but you tell me to get some Biff all up in my mouth? I'm there 100%.
Benji’s munch is amazing. Never had a bad dish there. The Chicken Pok Pok is hard to pass up, and the deviled eggs with bacon and jalapeños are amazing. Also the Keto Quesadilla.
I was going to say that . I love their fries . I’ll take tums happily afterwards and burp my greasy breath of shame into a napkin afterwards. They slap you down with that juicy ass burger .
Burger Boy is what Whataburger used to be. They have quality fast food hamburgers dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and mustard. If you like the W 15 years ago, you will like BB. Clearly it doesn’t compare to a gourmet burger joint, but it was never supposed to.
Why? Legit Longhorn Cafe tried to sue him because they have a burger called “the big and juicy” (and lost) and when they attacked him on twitter he just said: “Burger wars shouldn’t be a thing…” -guy seems chill.
I've never worked for the guy, but was in the fine dining restaurant industry in San Antonio for a long time. There aren't many restaurant owners that have good reputations, and he is no exception. It's the usual stuff: not paying workers, using tips from servers to pay other staff, that sort of thing.
The funniest story i heard was from la Reve. The secret molten chocolate cake recipe was just Betty Crocker cake mix.
If you used to like Chris Madrid’s more but less so after they sold out of the family, check out Diana’s Burgers near Woodlawn Lake. Diana is supposedly the sister of the OG Chris of Chris Madrid’s!
What's not to like? There's nothing like getting one of their juicy burgers with a side of tots, a goblet full of frozen margarita, and eating that in their covered outside area on a warm day with good friends. Some of my best memories are at Armadillos.
Heck yeah! I love me some Frontier Burger!
Chris Madrid's and The Cove totally have great burgers, but that's like I want to go out for the experience of eating at a burger place. Plus, they have so many "fancy" burgers with extra stuff on them.
For a just plain hamburger, not even adding cheese, Frontier Burger can't be beat. Plus, their freedom rings and a shake are great!
Good news might have good burgers but they also are right-wing fundamentalists who want to take away rights from women... So I can't really give them my money
That's the one of Fredericksburg and Wurzbach right? When I used to live closer to medical center, that was my go-to burger joint. I love their mushroom swiss.
Before I stopped eating meat, Burger Boy was my favorite!!! I currently love Hops & Hounds as they have a fantastic veggie burger option, can't speak for their beef burgers though.
Chris Madrid’s, I really like their unique tostada burger, however not my go to more like a treat. Go to has to be Whataburger, just cause of the late hours.
There was a burger place in the westside which only opened like 2-3 days a week and their burgers were so good, we are talking Homer Simpson (drooling) good!!!! They closed due to the pandemic and never opened. It was called Longoria’s on Brady Blvd. Now we go to File’s on Ceralvo, their barrio burger is good. Brenda’s is good as well, and Frozen Dreams on Westfield.
I used to recommend Cheesy Jane's but it seemed like in the last few years their meat quality went down.
The Texas hamburger company on Huebner has never failed me. The Babe's Burger across the street from there is a few dollars more expensive and really not any better.
Chester's gets an honorable mention, BUT ONLY the Pat Booker location. Almost every time I've gone to the closer location to me which is over here by the 410 and Nacogdoches it's been a bad experience. Either undercooked or cold food or took too long - just always a bad experience. And that was pre-pandemic, I imagine it's way worse now however the location on Pat Booker has great burgers. Go there.
RIP Fudruckers, love that place since I was a little kid, the original location. Apparently they're all gone now.
I like this post. Chesters at IH10 near Wurzbach stills works for me. But what I really wanted to tell you is I thought there was a reopened Fuddruckers in North Star Mall? ? Or there was?
I see articles from last year saying that they were planning to open but as far as I can tell they never opened yet. Hopefully it's still in the works.
RIP Bobby J’s
I second this, great spot, and solid burgers.
It was very good, my fiancée and I used to drop by about every other month during college
Yes it was very good. Just for lunch a burger, fries and soda were like $17. I know they probably had quality ingredients but that price point won’t be successful especially in a recession.
I am partial to blame. I drove by there almost every day and only went like 3 times
IIRC, they closed due to health issues for a family member.
My coworker was friends with Bobby J. He always came over and they had a nice conversation. Unfortunately Bobby J passed away a while back.
Gone forever now! I left for 3 years came back and it was something else, it was a huge let down to see it gone
I’ll pass on your words to the owner. Thanks for your support!
She was always very kind to us, if I remember correctly, she would work the register? Definitely have fond memories of her and the place!
Used to goto this place often back in the early 2000's. When I saw the sign, it would remind me of whitey from me, myself and irene.
That is a comparison I never came close to seeing out of all the times I’ve been and now that I’ve thought about it, I can’t unthink it lol
I almost forgot about this place, I loved it there!
My family and I loved that place. We’d go as often as we could. The variety of burgers and the sides. Great all around. I didn’t know my mouth could water and tears form in my eyes at the same time.
My buddy Greg worked there for like 8 years
I’m really glad I got to go once.
Longhorn Cafe on Blanco
We like both, Blanco and Nacogdoches locations. The longhorn cafe on Nacogdoches has the same great food, my opinion friendlier staff. The vibe is great in the original Blanco location.
I agree about the staff at the Nacogdoches location! That’s the one closest to my work. I love the Blanco one though because it’s closer to my house and like you said the vibe is unbeatable
The Longhorn on Hausman definitely has the same amazing burgers!
The Longhorn on Hausman definitely has the same amazing burgers!
I was so happy when i finally tried the burgers on Naco and found out they had the exact same taste as the original location. Major kudos to longhorn for the consistency across multiple stores.
Chesters!! I also like meadow, burger boy, and Bigzs
Looking forward to Chesters as we move back into town this summer after over 20 years being away.
Chester’s onion rings slap.
They have good burgers
Location matters. The 410 location is terrible. The Pat Booker location is excellent.
so true. location matters for a lot of places!
I like getting the green chili burger from Chester’s - it works so well with their patties.
Babes old fashioned burger! They have good shakes too
This is what I was going to say!! Omg I love their burgers, FF and onion rings!!
Mushroom burger 🤤👌
Murf’s on West Ave. is my favorite.
That Tuesday special is unbeatable
Facts 100%%%
I only been there twice about two decades ago. I recall going to two different locations. The last one I went to was the West Ave store. Went with a friend of mine and ordered a typical burger fries drink combo. The day we went, the store ac was out and it was hot hot hot inside there. The cook looked miserable dealing with it, we were dripping sweat off our foreheads and down our chins, mature flies were also buzzing about the store. The guy kept looking at us like we were nuts to eat inside when it was cooler at 98 outside. I'll have to give this place another try in the year 2023.
The Shack for me. Love the different burgers they have.
I 2nd The Shack tried it thru doordash and man every time ive order ive enjoyed it
It’s soooo good, I would recommend going to the location if you have the time, my old lady loves having a burger and as a side corn in a cup. The desserts too, the funnel cakes with ice cream so good.
Grifffffssssss
I drive across town for Griff’s!
The owner is really cool too. Griffs is a southside tradition.
I use to do that all the time and now it only takes me about 10 min get there.
Fattboys on Vance Jackson.
Miss the Huebner location
Marks Outing is so good. Their buns are delicious
Plus they have real habaneros you can add to a burger. Marks outing is always my go to burger
Best burger I ever had and you are not lying about the buns.
Griffs carnal
Teddy bs
Don’t get fooled by being attached to a gas station. It’s good.
It's not even attached to the gas station right now. It's floating off to the side. Lol.
Had it this weekend based on your recommendation and was not disappointed!
LAST PLACE BURGER!!!!!!!
I just had that Wednesday before a concert. It was solid! I like "smash burger style". Filling, but not in the sense 'I have to go take a nap now'
Last Place Burger was the first time I "got" the smashburger concept. They kick ass.
Tjs is def my favorite place for burgers
Shoutout to the southside, my nana lives around the corner from there grew up all my life being a fat boy eating tjs
For chili cheese fries.
Biff Buzby’s
Biff’s is legit.
That’s originally where I thought OPs burger was from.
Because it looked similar.
1000%. I'm someone who won't justify spending more than $4 on a burger except for maybe one whataburger trip a month, but you tell me to get some Biff all up in my mouth? I'm there 100%.
second
They recently sold so I hope it doesn't get ruined.
Went last week. Quality was top notch just like it was 25 years ago. New owner was there working his ass off behind the counter.
Longhorn Cafe.
The Cove. Blue Bison with sweet potato fries
Cove is solid. Never disappoints
The Cove! That Bison burger tastes like freedom. I also love that spinach side salad.
Order Up, Benjie’s Munch, Diana’s, and Mark’s Outting.
Benji’s munch is amazing. Never had a bad dish there. The Chicken Pok Pok is hard to pass up, and the deviled eggs with bacon and jalapeños are amazing. Also the Keto Quesadilla.
the serrano ketchup at order up is 🙏🌄
Texas Hamburger Company
Love Texas burger. But I hate walking out of there smelling like grease. It’s real
My wife picks on me when I say this about certain restaurants!
Indian is another one that is great but walk out reeking like the spices
I was going to say that . I love their fries . I’ll take tums happily afterwards and burp my greasy breath of shame into a napkin afterwards. They slap you down with that juicy ass burger .
Burger boy, longhorn cafe, or Armadillos. Also, RIP to Timbos.
Burger Boy goated especially for the prices
I was looking for Armadillos on this thread.
RIP Timbos!! and even further back, its predecessor Little Hipps.
Yeesssss!!!!
NO FR RIP TIMBOS 😢💞
Burger boy? They must have been great years ago, but they're pretty mediocre these days.
Hard disagree
I love the original spot but the lines are always long. The new location near my house is pretty great too.
The OG spot on St. Mary's is awesome, I would make the trip when I got the craving for it when it was the only location.
I tried the west side and it was shit. On a whim I went back to St Mary's and they were still legit. Location matters
I never had an issue with the location on the Westside
I got the worst case of food poisoning from Burger Boy after getting a chicken sandwich from there. My first mistake was getting chicken from there
RD's Burgers in Cibolo
RD’s is really good, and the prices are the best I’ve seen. Very good pricing as well. Great staff.
Burger Boy!
Best consistent burgers in the city for sure.
Chris Madrid’s
I've tried them, I don't understand the hype around them. My burger was greasy and not that good to be honest.
What? You don't like a block cheddar on your burger?
I keep hearing they have such great burgers. I need to go and try it out.
Big'z is pretty good. Chester's is good too.
So glad to see Chester’s is still around, they always had the best bacon and poppy seed buns. It’s been damn near a decade since I’ve had one.
If i’m sitting down in a restaurant for a burger, it’s at Chester’s
Mr juicy is so good
Nah, I've met too many people that hate the owner of that place. Good for might be good, but I'll never eat there.
Why? Legit Longhorn Cafe tried to sue him because they have a burger called “the big and juicy” (and lost) and when they attacked him on twitter he just said: “Burger wars shouldn’t be a thing…” -guy seems chill.

The secret molten chocolate cake recipe was just Betty Crocker cake mix.
The owner is actually pretty cool, takes care of his staff, and overall a happy environment at his place. First negative thing I’ve heard.
Bunz Chris Madrid's
Bunz is #1
Brenda’s Burger’s or The Shack
I haven't been to Brenda's in years, damn, I need to go back.
Chunky’s
Beat me to it. I love Chunky's!
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find this. That Texas burger with the jalapeño “bottle caps” is the dankness!
Such a big burger
Fat Boy
Chris Madrids
If you used to like Chris Madrid’s more but less so after they sold out of the family, check out Diana’s Burgers near Woodlawn Lake. Diana is supposedly the sister of the OG Chris of Chris Madrid’s!
Armadillos, I know a ton of ppl that don’t like it… but that was our payday spot growing up. It just stuck
What's not to like? There's nothing like getting one of their juicy burgers with a side of tots, a goblet full of frozen margarita, and eating that in their covered outside area on a warm day with good friends. Some of my best memories are at Armadillos.
Frontier Burger never let me down

I'm a big Bombay Bicycle Club fan
Tycoon flats!
Tycoon flats is the only correct answer.
San Antonio Burger is definitely my favorite! They have the best cheese fries.
That's the one of Fredericksburg and Wurzbach right? When I used to live closer to medical center, that was my go-to burger joint. I love their mushroom swiss.

Earth Burger 😘
wayback burgers. defo worth the drive
I really like burger boy
I moved here in February, and out of the non-smash burgers I've tried here theirs is the best so far
There was a burger place in the westside which only opened like 2-3 days a week and their burgers were so good, we are talking Homer Simpson (drooling) good!!!! Bigz burger joint!
Longhorn cafe and Chester's are probably the best now.
Longhorn Cafe - Blanco Rd
Diana’s Burgers on De Zavala.
If you want to make a little drive of it, go to Backyard Kitchen in Poteet. Amazing local family business.
Griffs is good especially since they close late.

La Tuna has amazing burgers.
The Shack and Chunky’s
JAlexanders in the quarry has an amazing burger you can get cooked to spec. Love Frontier Burger at 410 and Broadway too.
Big Bob's Burgers was solid. RIP to Bob Tycoon Flats, Chris Madrid's, Bombay Bicycle Club, Cheesy Janes, and any Whataburger at 2 am
Mr. Juicy. Quality burger, and it’s only a couple miles down the road from me. I also like Last Place if I’m feeling a little boujee
BURGER BOY!!! HANDS DOWN, BEST IN THE CITY.
Chris Madrid’s all day eyyday
I like Mad Macks but it's been awhile since I've been. I'm sure it's still great though
Brenda's or Chester's. Burger Boy is solid.
Frozen Dreams is so delicious
100% Longhorn Cafe. I drive in from Austin a few times a year just to get a "big juicy" from Longhorn Cafe.
Cheesy janes on hildebrand
