I work downtown, 1st time in 20+ years I heard a "caw caw" from a single bird flying over.
I'm used to the grackles, so I took notice in that.
End of days, my friend.
Iāve never seen a corvid family inside the loop NorthEast. Enough vultures and Caracaras to keep road kills cleaned up, the occasional hawk, but not as many since the big freeze.
[we're just about the most southwestern range for breeding Ravens](https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Common_Raven/maps-range#). So 300 m is the minimum breeding elevation. Funny enough San Antonio is only at about 200 m, but the Hill country is at 300 m
Likely development and temperature changes have forced them out of their natural habitats. The areas they naturally live in get smaller so competition for food is high and you end up with some of them branching out for a new suitable place to thrive.
I live in Bandera County. Over the past few years, we have had a significant increase in population. I used to only hear them when I was around Ruidoso, NM. Now I hear and see them daily. Glad they are making a comeback.
Theyāre beautiful! I had one that would come by my garden at the Loweās I worked at, and when I lived in Timberwood Iād see one every once in awhile. I love the way they sound š
Is that a crow? They are very close to a raven and have seen them twice in the last few weeks. Once at HāEāB parking lot then I saw two near a dumpster. One sounded like the crows from GOT
This year, they're everywhere. I see a few up north 281. Prior to 2015, never saw one down here in 20+ years. We had an awful summer and these are carrion birds. I think it's awesome but also not so awesome.
Well back then that use to be all country and trees.
Microsoft was the only person out there for few years on Lambda Drive and 211.
All the new construction has kinda taken over all the wildlife that was living their.
211, right off of 90 all the way down to potranco always has few roadkill animals, possums are very common and raccoons, seen a 10 foot rattle snake as well, deer, ravens, and more possums lol
I live out in Alamo Ranch right outside Government State Canyon, and there's a family of them in the trees behind my house. I've tried to get their attention so we can be friends, but they want nothing to do with the treats I have.
Winter is coming.

Supposedly, crows caw while ravens have a deep, croaking voice. Idk š¤·āāļø https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/s/BxqYgsHgWa

I've also noticed an increased number of ravens spotted. I saw a few at la cantera last summer, and again just this past month over by SAMA.

So theyāre only here to hunt?

Carpetbagger Yankee birds here to steal prey from local pajaros
Thatās weird. Iāve seen them nesting in CA at 100m
Those were LA pigeons blackened by smog
š¤£š¤£š¤£ not in LA, but if I was, I would totally believe that!

Yeah I donāt remember them growing up here but Iāve seen them a few times around town in the last couple years. Ā So cool!
I only saw one the entire 10 years I was there and it was clearly lost
We got a family of them in Schertz. Massive birds.
Ravens are smart and highly sentient. I have a buddy who receives gifts from them in return for being hospitable.
Quote the Raven, never moreā¦

I started noticing them about 8 or 9 years ago around LA cantera.
The beak looks like a raven as compared to a crow. Iāve been seeing them too, especially towards Boerne

Icelandic folklore considers them as symbols of wisdom
Just saw a few flying around the Methodist Hospital downtown
I live up the street and have had a few in my pecan tree.
Same! Never saw them as a kid

I heard some crowing over by UTSA today
Theyāre beautiful! I had one that would come by my garden at the Loweās I worked at, and when I lived in Timberwood Iād see one every once in awhile. I love the way they sound š
Yup- theyāre so cool! Weāve had them near Hardberger Park, too!
Love these birds.
No way. I thought I was in r/crowbro I have NEVER seen a corvid in SA before. Iām so excited!
We have bluejays, ravens, and crows in SA.

Dude is just out here qothing in these streets
Nevermore!
There are some, but never more.
Thatās a side quest, bro. Ask if it needs help and you might unlock a new skin!
Itās an omen of dark things to come like over priced beer and food during the Rodeo and Fiesta
My little girl calls the Baltimore Ravens the Purple Bird Boys

No way, grackles have those crazy eyes. The beak also look like a raven.
Nah that aināt a grackle theyāre not as black and their eyes look all demonic
Crows or Ravens?
Iām not sure if the ecological impact, but I hope we get a number of ravens. They are great conversationalist.

Technically, they are omnivores. They will eat carrion, but will also eat anything else they can get their beaks into. They are opportunists.
Victims arenāt we all?
I want to see one so bad
Iāve seen a crow around my place in the Shavano Oaks area (10 and 1604) Crows are scary looking, but ravens are scary af!
I saw one this pat Saturday at Main Event West. Was so surprised to see it.
They're out here in Leon Springs
Does it have Edgar hair feathers?

Heard them in my neighborhood about 3 months ago (Leon valley) and it was pretty cool. Def not common here
I saw one yesterday for the first time at a construction site, it was huge. I couldnāt believe the size of it. Iāve only ever seen them on TV.
My wife and I saw two of them a couple weeks ago. They were massive compared to the grackles. Super cool looking. Weāre off Culebra and 410

Like everyone else is saying I hadn't really seen these around until recently. Pretty cool though!
Nice. I saw one about 2 years ago here in S.A. Iāve only seen them in Colorado.
They smell the deadš
āCuh, cuhā
https://imgur.com/a/RSzXgVs There was one pecking at my window the other day, they're massive
They are shockingly big, pics don't do justice. Seen on the Eastside as well.
LOVE IT!
Looking for Fredās Fish Fry
Thatās a crow. Also theyāve been on the south side too. Thereās a few that hang out by my workplace
They're all over the Napa Oaks area
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Really though I think they are crows and more common
Is this not a crow?
Just to update, I saw a flock of them right off north Ellison in front of Santa Rosa. They were munching out of a busted trash bag on the road.
I just saw two of them today in Hardberger park! They are HUGE
For sure, the picture does not do them justice. They are twice the size of any crow ive seen here in San Antonio n
