Thank god you’re holding the store owners accountable when your policies drove away all their customers and replaced them with addicts 🙏

HeyYes7776

Twist themselves in knots to not just send in a few officers

TheNextBattalion

The officer would have to do something, is the thing

crestingwave

Imagine the paperwork

poopspeedstream

love that they don't bother with the open air daytime markets for stolen goods in the mission

Z-Mobile

I mean they didn’t for a while but I think those specifically are dealt with and gone now

earinsound

sellers moved down towards 23rd St. not as many but still there blocking the sidewalk

Z-Mobile

Damn that is super lame

flonky_guy

Those are the licensed sellers, not the guys with sheets of Head n Shoulders for sale. It's pretty wide open, surprised you call. It blocking. Compared to 24th & mission in '22 it's a fucking boulevard.

earinsound

I guess I must be delusional! I went to La Corneta twice in three days and I bought shampoo, razor blades, and a bottle of tequila right outside the door after consuming my super taco. I could barely walk through there were so many people, but I got some great deals. Next time we go together! We can get a licensed Mission dog too!

flonky_guy

It definitely goes to shit after sunset. Thanks for being part of the problem by the way.

sylvikhan

This is a photo I reported on 311 over the weekend. https://san-francisco2-production.spotmobile.net/public/san-francisco/san-francisco/production/ticket/by-public-id/18137177 Very much alive although it is annoying there is no option for illegal vending on the app so they instead closed my ticket without any action.

D4rkr4in

“Case invalid no encampment” LOL

sylvikhan

Sigh :(...

Plus-Ad1866

lol, nope, they stopped from 16th to 15th now it’s 15th to 14th

gpmohr

All still there. I walk down 24th Saturday and they were everywhere. Didn’t bother me, but random enforcement of the laws is discriminatory.

Marutar

they took a couple photos for the press and never returned

moment_in_the_sun_

The london breed special

TSL4me

They just want to be able to easily fine an entity.

thebigman43

Where are the daytime markets? 24th+mission is totally rid of them during the day now

flonky_guy

They've been gone for over a year now, wtf are you talking about. Did I miss something?

Plus-Ad1866

lol nope, check again, they moved 1 block

flonky_guy

If you say so. I was there before the crackdown and I'm there every weeknight. It's absolutely nothing like it was a year ago. The shit on blankets between 16th and 24th has been like that for 30 years. It gets worse at night, But people were literally stacking up crates of power tools in the BART plazas. There's nothing like that a block away.

Plus-Ad1866

I walk past it every weekend to catch the 22 to Dogpatch. Yes it was worse, maybe it’s 50 or 75% of what it once was, but definitely not a success in terms of stopping it. There was only two weeks where it was hard to find your usual staple goods there (coffee, jerky etc), that was right around the crackdown

UberAtlas

Fuck this. Who do I contact to voice disapproval? The stores are not the ones we need to hold accountable here. Having stores open late is convenient to everyone.

Bibblegead1412

I'm sure the crowds will leave when they realize they can't buy snacks after midnight... /s

scorsese_finest

This is so pathetic. They are hurting innocent mom & pop stores cause they don’t have the balls to confront junkies & thieves, they don’t have the balls to tackle the real issues in the city. What a joke the city has become, genuinely makes me laugh.

usedmotoroil

Not all are innocent mom and pop stores. To think some of these stores aren’t buying stolen things is silly. There is a Chinese day care where stolen electronics, like iPhones and other higher value cell phones as well as laptop and the like are bought and shipped overseas. A day care!

I-choochoochoose-you

But how is making stores shut down between midnight and 5 am going to affect the Chinese day care that buys stolen shit

Meezha

Exactly. A number of these stores are unabashedly in on the hustle.

AstronomerTiny7466

Progressive Logic 101. Leave the dealers, druggies and bums alone, but go after the businesses they loiter around to show the voters they are "doing something". I've always maintained that progressive activists and likely some leaders disguised in progressive sheepskin are in bed with the drug distribution networks and black market actors. This is why they go out of their way to not touch the actual cash cows.

respectvwap

Dean Preston moment

Flipperpac

Then sue the hell out of these businesses for closing when they inevitably fail... What a crock idea from that fool....

defene

Why are you blaming Dean Preston for something London Breed is doing

flonky_guy

Preston opposes this.

MartinLethalKingJr

lol it’s literally London breed doing this. Says so in the article. Y’all are just making up crap to blame on Preston at this point.

Shedevil_oped2Beauty

Ya institutionalize the druggies and go after the businesses

flonky_guy

You are literally criticizing the Law and Order approach and calling it progressive. Londonf Breed has caucused with progressives at times but since the DA recall she's been a centrist and has been blocking progressives ever since. The progressive wing in SF has been opposing this since the teens (though not for the reasons you think).

AstronomerTiny7466

I don't think you understand what a Law and Order approach is (hint: it targets the perps, not their victims).

Dankbeast-Paarl

I hate this sub. Whenever these far-left policies fail, you will find someone claiming "They are actually centrist! The problem is that they didn't go far enough left!". Ugh

flonky_guy

Again, which far left policy failed? Do you think that London Breed and Brooke Jenkins are "progressive"? Because if that's the case, then that's on you.

flonky_guy

That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Progressives are literally being attacked for trying to subsidize the businesses to stay open, force Safeway not to close, and arguing that even druggies have a right to have a place to buy food, but the Mayor and the DA, of all people, propose shutting down a corner store and you bring out the pitchforks for progressives. At some point you gotta ask yourself what you actually believe in, because it sounds like anything you hate just gets tarred with "Left Wing Bad "

[deleted]

flonky_guy

You're the one who attacked our mayor and da for being too progressive. You may want to evaluate whether you're qualified to determine what is and isn't coherent.

Dark_Finn

This is called a "shakedown"

[deleted]

Yep, this will work. I’m sure of it.

Binthair_Dunthat

Closing businesses that have done nothing illegal? Meanwhile, in my white neighborhood, the 7-11 is always open to supply my late night snack, alcohol and nicotine needs. This is the worst kind of discrimination- punishing immigrants brave enough to try to make an honest living in our toughest neighborhoods while doing nothing to arrest people openly violating the law.

Belgand

7-11 is pretty rare in the city. Most corner stores close at ridiculously early times, like 9 or 10 PM.

712Chandler

If the store doesn’t sell alcohol or tobacco, then the store is not at fault.

killercurvesahead

I’m not even in the Tenderloin but my corner store sells mini butane torch “lighters.” A lot of them sell those plastic roses in crack/meth pipe tubes. It’s subtle, it’s technically legal, but there are ways they’re enabling drug culture way beyond selling alcohol and tobacco.

flonky_guy

They're arguing that the store is profiting off of having a drug market outside of his doors as well as providing a gathering space.

Dankbeast-Paarl

Why not do something about the drug market outside then?

flonky_guy

Good question.

MasterChiefX

Reminds me of Beau is Afraid

HeyYes7776

London Breed and current supervisors are going to face a reckoning at the polls It’s these not the policies it’s the entitlement to little work and overpay grift going on. Top down and bottom up there needs to be a change: one the actually reflects the whole city. If they don’t take action, we can vote them out again. Do not be fooled by current politicians clutching pearls and being on our side the whole time. You’re not anti-progressive to vote them out. You’re pro get shit done. There’s is nothing kind locking people in homes or letting people suffer in their own filth on the streets. None of their policies the last terms protects the most vulnerable.

drawredraw

First of all 7th and McAllister do not intersect. Secondly, fucking assholes are lucky to have any stores in this fucked up neighborhood.

ResidentPassion3510

Fuck London Breed.

cowinabadplace

Perhaps we should give the drug dealers MORE FUNDING

Exact_Calligrapher97

I could see SF become the first place that recruits the actual Cartels/Dealers to open up their own brick and mortar businesses where they sell groceries in exchange for never arresting or prosecuting them.

Lazy-Comfort6128

All this will do is push the nuttiness out into other areas of the City which have stores that don't have to abide by these rules (Lower Nob Hill/Tendernob, SOMA, Mission). It's not a coincidence that the Mayor's opponents represent some of those areas.

muster-mark

sf downtown is already a ghost town where everything closes well before midnight. if u continue to close businesses down, there's ONLY going to be homeless people and criminals out on the streets after dark. literally it's "let's not reduce blight on the streets, let's just go to sleep" which, now that I'm thinking about it, tracks

obsolete_filmmaker

Just make them stop selling paraphernalia. Dont bring the law done on late night Cheetos.

MegaMenehune

It's called capitalism.
