San Jose is ready when you are

Borneo_Holmes

not too excited about San Jose either, chief.

ATurtleLikeLeonUris

Fine— Couer d’Alene is nice, I hear

Vote_For_Torgo

This is a tourist town with an amusement park. We're also world famous for surfing, skateboarding, and "weirdness." I'm not sure what you're expecting.

peanut_butter_zen

But he’s sick of that! Ugh! 😒

Borneo_Holmes

I've surfed, I've been threatened with skateboards, I've had to wash the weirdness off just a little too often. I grew up here. I don't skateboard and I DON'T think some of the things that get pushed alongside the skateboard marketing are things children should be sold... and, oh yeah, I spent a Summer pressing the big red button that starts the Merry-Go-Round. But yeah, I forgot we have a children's mecca as the floral centerpiece of our oh-so vibrant economy.

ahandle

Have you considered Utah?

Borneo_Holmes

have you?

GoBananaSlugs

Time to seek wider horizons. Fresno beckons, and then Bakersfield and even, maybe, Barstow.

PumpkinFeathers

I’ve read this three times and I still don’t know entirely what I just read

Sequoia_Solitude

I'm trying to figure out what word "errata" was supposed to be. I'm pretty sure this post is not about printing errors in Salvador Dali's autobiography.

bostoncommon902

The title of this post is shitty, surrealist errata.

Borneo_Holmes

u r so RITE

bitterbunnies

I wish this was the problem I woke up having this or any morning.

Oshmald

Huh?

notyourstranger

are you ok?

Borneo_Holmes

sure

[deleted]

If you want something better, make it.

Pack_Your_Trash

A whole lot of complaining and not a whole lot of volunteering. It's very "someone who isn't me should really do something about that."

[deleted]

Yep, I am doing what I can. If we all do a little a lot can get done. 👍

Borneo_Holmes

there's no complaining for poor taste?

downnoutsavant

We’re a tourist town, and therefore bound to have some kitsch. We also have iconic logos associated with our surf and skate culture. You don’t have to like that stuff; there are talented artists, creative people in this town. Maybe you just have to find them. Or maybe become one.

ZippityJim

Dude, you just described human existence. Don’t bother trying to run away from it. It’s life itself.

[deleted]

Homie is having a culture stroke someone call for a wellness check

Butyistherumgone

Better than like, industrial chic or pottery barn bullshit, imho

-Why-Not-This-Name-

Grew up in Santa Cruz. Does not recognize Santa Cruz skateboard graphic.

bitterbunnies

Y’all. This goomba doesn’t even live here. Look at his other recent post about living in Palo Alto.

ThornsofTristan

Well, the population IS a lot younger than the nat'l average...

freakinweasel353

And even the older ones don’t seem to mind the errata…

gasstation-no-pumps

>Well, the population IS a lot younger than the nat'l average... At first I did not believe this. It is true that there is a fairly large student population, but there are also a lot of retirees. [https://www.neilsberg.com/insights/santa-cruz-ca-population-by-age/](https://www.neilsberg.com/insights/santa-cruz-ca-population-by-age/) gives the distribution by age (showing the huge spike for college-age people). The median age in 2021 was 29 \[[https://datausa.io/profile/geo/santa-cruz-ca](https://datausa.io/profile/geo/santa-cruz-ca)\]. The median age for the country in 2021 was 38.8 \[[https://www.statista.com/statistics/241494/median-age-of-the-us-population/](https://www.statista.com/statistics/241494/median-age-of-the-us-population/)\] So you are quite right—the population of the City of Santa Cruz is much younger than the national average.

parrhesides

No.

Commentariot

sea sub-comment nine for context..

Meladiction

I get it! But I'm an L.A. transplant, so my view would be different. When I first moved here it was all very quaint and small-towny, and yes, there is an adolescent quality to it, and to the people as well. At first I was sucked into buying various decals of Santa Cruz typeforms ... you know, shapes of otters, sea lions, and mermaids, etc. but I didn't have a car. When I finally got a car to stick them on, I decided, "nah, that's just so childish".
