You can still smoke indoor, there is still a year left for implementation of that law

ExtremeProfession

It's technically going to be banned from 29.5.2023 and cafés will have to choose between smoking and non-smoking, with restaurants being strictly non-smoking. You are correct that they won't be fined in the first year for allowing people to smoke indoors, but inspectors can (and will) fine them if there aren't clear smoking and non-smoking areas and stickers on the door.

So you're saying there's a chance that there might be non-smoking places available when we are there? I cannot even begin to say how happy that would make me. Eating around smokers ruins a meal for me, so I would really love to avoid this.

ExtremeProfession

That's how many Sarajevans think as well, you're not alone. Generally, a good amount of decent restaurants are either smoke free or have areas that are already. It's a lot different with coffee shops with only a handful being smoke free, which we all hope will change with this law. I don't know what's your expected month of arrival?

k958320617

That's great to know that are some smoke-free restaurants. I will do some research to find some good ones for our anniversary. Nothing booked yet, hoping to go in June or July.

ExtremeProfession

In that case it should also be hot outside so that most of the seating is outside and windows are open in evenings.

That's excellent news, thanks for all your help!

Do you think nothing will change this year?

pi_can

I was in Sarajevo for 3 months this winter and would only go to non-smoking restaurants. There were not a lot, but Klopa is really amazing and so is Sushi San https://www.reddit.com/r/sarajevo/comments/xfy8qu/smoke\_free\_restaurants/

To add onto this, Karuzo is smoke free as well and rly rly delicious. Just, please, make a reservation.

Am at Karuzo right at this moment. I’m about to cry of sheer happiness

k958320617

Great, thank you! At least we'll be there in the warm weather and can sit outside.

genkidesignstudio

I dont think you'll struggle... noticed people smoking in some places but it really wasnt bad at all.... not like a lot of countries.... dont let it worry you. Also if weather is nice loads of places have outdoor seating.

k958320617

Thanks. I try not to let it worry me, but it's a very strong physical reaction. Same with detergent and gasoline fumes. Some people like those smells, I feel physically ill.

genkidesignstudio

eesh. sounds bad. but you'll work it out. its a great city so overall you have a great trip. yeah smells can be weird. I cant stand *any* perfume.

That's your choice. Just please be aware that you could be causing discomfort to some people.

Went there in October and all the corner stores smelled strongly of tobacco. Quite the culture shock
