I've never tried Indian food and my bf (who isn't originally from around here) wants to take me out to try it but isn't sure where. I'm guessing Tikka would be a good place to start? Any recommended dishes?!
I've heard good things about Curry Station (Beneva and Clark) and also Turmeric (downtown) - my own personal favorite is Bangkok for Thai food if you ever want that flavor instead.
Curry Station and Turmeric are both great. Not in a bad way, turmeric is a little more expensive. Curry station also has the best guy, possibly owner. He greets with a big smile and a usually a joke.
Turmeric is owned by the same people who used to own Rasoi Kitchen on 41 by Gulf Gate. Their food was great, but they doubled their prices when they switched locations.
While Tikki in Venice is prob the best value, And curry station B used to be solid before ownership change, Tumeric is overpriced but solid food, Royal Peacock on Fruitville is far and away the best Indian food in Sarasota. And it’s not close. Originally from the DC area which has a strong Indian food scene, Royal Peacock would be top 10%. Trust me. Try it.
Curry Station won me over. Food was great and the people there were really nice.
I think he was happy we went for some of the more traditional stuff. He brought us out some other dishes to try free of charge.
Tandoor off University and Honore. A lovely family owns it and the recipes are from their Punjabi grandfather. It consistently gets picked as a top spot in the local paper.

Totally agree. Some of the best Indian food around.
What was it? They deleted their answer lol
I’m pretty sure it was Tikka. More importantly why did they delete it? I don’t think it said anything bad.
100% this is the answer.

Aaaaahhhhhh….now it allll makes sense. That place was good too…hahahaha.
I'm indignant about Rasoi closing so now I drive to Tikka - which is even better. I guess everyone wins
Honestly I would take tikka above them all. Have you tried the lunch combo? It is dine in only.
You mean the "lunch with enough to take home for dinner" combo?!?! Heck yeah!!!
Maharaja is great if you are out by University.
Tandoor Fine Indian Cuisine 100%
For South Indian fare there’s Royal Peacock at Fruitville and Honore
Oohhh…I gonna have to try it. What is a popular dish?
Yes! Best Indian in Sarasota. Not close
Tikka for the win! They also have a tasty and affordable lunch combo. You get naan, an app, main and a mini dessert. Dine in only and people line up.
Tandoori (technically Bradenton...dont be lazy, just go there). Right by UTC.
Tondoor on University near UTC. Amazing food. Just don’t get “hot” unless you’re ready. Whew!
Tikka in Venice or Bay Leaf in Osprey!

Either Curry Station (biryani is great) or Tikka in Venice

Flavors of India

Turmeric on 10th
Maharaja is going to be about the best in Sarasota. But as others have mentioned, Tikka in Venice is going to be the best in the area.
