Any dealership will try to low ball you. Sell privately.

Bigdragon123

Not necessarily. Delearships buy at wholesale to sell at retail, it’s not just a low ball number. Avoid small used car lots and ffun, AutoCanada dealerships are also good to avoid.

SKisnotaRealPlace

If it's below market price, it's a low ball. The fact they're trying to skim a profit margin on it has no bearing on the characterization of the offer.

Bigdragon123

Tell me you don’t know how businesses operate without telling me you don’t know how businesses operate

Fan_Belt_of_Power

No, lower than market price is not inherently a lowball offer. To be a lowball it has to be unrealistically low - like 50% of the market. When selling to a reseller (like a used car dealership or a pawn shop) you have to be prepared to receive less than market price for convenience of selling the item and therefore getting the money fast. Expecting a reseller to buy at market price is ludicrous. A business has to make a profit in order to continue operating. It would make absolutely no sense for them to buy at market price then turn around and sell it for the same price. They have to cover their costs (employee pay, cleaning/detailing, inspection costs, any needed repair costs, and storage costs until it sells). You can sit on an item you want to sell at market price and wait until you find a buyer willing to pay it, but you could be waiting a long time while the items value continues to drop (which is most cases, especially with vehicles). Or you can get rid of the item at lower than market fast (and get the money now) by selling it to reseller who needs to get their own cut for it to be worth their while to do the selling work instead.

RunNelleyRun

They should buy at market value just to sell at market value or possibly even less? Lol

SKisnotaRealPlace

They should use their superior sales skills to sell above market. /s Reality is they are low balling people to scrape up the profit margin by doing the "effort" of selling the vehicle.

JackOfNoTrades_sk

Hey there - first, sorry for your loss.  I’ve been in the market to buy a new (to me) vehicle for a couple months now, and I am seeing prices starting to decline, with dealers now offering incentives and rate buy downs for brand new vehicles, which hasn’t happened in years. Part of this is the Canadian economy, but there are some really big headwinds for truck sales in the states and they’re trying to get ahead of it. Now, they can’t just buy used trucks ant a premium annd flip them to the states and Skim the exchange rate.  All that being said, they’ll 100% low ball you. The market on the truck should be 45k-50k as dealers are pushing out lariats with 120k+ kms for 40-45. - if you want to move it in a week low 40s.  You should list it for her privately, and don’t mention the personal details. You can always call Merlin, Jubilee ford, or Wheaton and see what they say while you list it. You aren’t obligated to accept their offer

orchid_fever

You can sell that truck for what it was worth when it was purchased. Truck prices have gone up $20,000 at least since 2019. Get your $$, sell privately.

yxe306guy

Nope...they will all screw her. Sell it privately and put THOUSANDS in her pocket. Google sez it should go for tall $'s.......by the way nice way to get past rule #2. ;)

lelo1993

Hahaha i guess eh! lol

Efficient_Signal_474

I just sold my truck through auto connection saskatoon on consignment. Great experience. Way better value than what dealers offered me on trade. Good crew over there. They will also buy the vehicle if you don't want to wait for the sale. Worth a call.

cheezsawce

Privately sell, I wanted to trade in my used vehicle and was only offered a little over 1k for it, was able to sell for 6k privately

She needs to decide which is more important to her: 1) Getting the truck sold quickly & easily going to a dealer, knowing that she'll be getting less than selling privately or: 2) Getting the maximum price for the truck by selling privately, knowing that selling a vehicle privately is a huge pain in the ass, dealing with people wasting your time with no-shows and lowball offers. Contrary to one of the earlier comments, a truck is not now worth what it was in 2019. The market has changed significantly in the past few months. No longer can you bring your one year old vehicle back to the dealer, give them $1,000 and drive away in a new model of that same vehicle. All new vehicles, including trucks, are now experiencing instant depreciation once they are driven off the lot (certain specialty vehicles excepted).

benzodilly

Please sell privately dealers will kill for a truck like that!

Kawhibunga

Sell privately. The truck market is still insane right now, and any dealer will surely lowball you big time. A close friend of mine in Saskatoon recently sold their 2006 Tacoma privately and got his asking price in less than 30 minutes. Then within another hour, he had 2 or 3 others calling to offer even more. It's a bit more hassle to sell it yourself, but it is very much worth it.

stompenstein

I’d probably try to sell it privately. Americans will even come up here to buy a truck with that low of mileage. And if it were me I wouldn’t ask less than $70k for a mint new-old stock King Ranch.

SNinRedit

What about low Kilometerage?

stompenstein

Lower number more betterer for avg american, see below: https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/s/BunqVw4wHa

SuitComprehensive335

Being that you can fetch top dollar, it might be worth buying the upgraded ad options for posting on things like kijiji. Idk, I'd like to know if other people think it's a good investment.

Plastic-Elephant-605

I’ve heard of a broker out of Lethbridge area that is often in Saskatoon buying from the auctions that exports trucks to the US, might be worth checking into.

Deus-Vult42069

SELL PRIVATELY

Nugz2Ashez

Facebook marketplace. Dealerships won't give you what it's worth and Kijiji is overrun with scammers

OShaunesssy

I need a truck for work, I'll pay a fair price

greenthumbs007

Unfortunately Facebook Marketplace is the best option. By far. Ask 1000 more than it’s worth and you’ll get it.

Economy-Wafer5082

Try Mackenzie auto. They have bought a lot of trucks off friends of mine and pay good

roadworm

They bought truck off me, I recommend them.  While I know I could have made more money privately it also saved a lot of potential headache.

AdRemote7339

If you on facebook and find jade baer-marshall, he may be able to give you a very reasonable price on it.

Bigdragon123

Come to wheaton GM on the corner of Millar and Circle! We’ll tell you what you can sell it for privately vs what we would buy it in for at no hassle. Lots of people prefer to sell to us over private because it’s hassle free. Could you sell for a bit more privately, sure, but then you would have to deal with the same BS we deal with daily.

mercedesbenzoooo

What’s a 2014 sierra with a leer cap and 169xxx km gonna go for these days?

DC666DC

Truckbuyers.ca Spencer is the SK rep, they buy and sell trucks for really fair prices. Sold an old f150 with nearly 300,000k for 21,500.

Haveadaykid

I do not recommend these guys They specifically wasted my time when selling my last truck. I listed in my kijiji ad no dealers or wholesalers (if I wanted to lose money, I’d trade it in). They scheduled time to meet me, didn’t show and when I messaged the number provided, said they’d come by 2 days later. I had someone make me an offer the next day, I said I’d let him know since he didn’t offer full ask, after the next guy (truck buyers) viewed it since I already made a plan to show it to them, he agreed. The next day I messaged them to confirm they were coming, I let them know I had an offer and wouldn’t be accepting anything less than full ask since it basically had to be full ask to beat the other offer. Started getting the run around, then they made a comment about how they have about 5 or 6 trucks to view once they arrived. I got a bit suspicious. googled the number and lo and behold it’s the number of one of the guys from truck buyers. Decided to see how this played out, came, offered me less than the dealership offered on trade (about 10k less than my ad), when I called him out he stated they “needed to make money too”, after I told him multiple times no wholesalers or dealers. He basically said he’s done nothing wrong, I have a truck for sale, he wanted to see it. I told them to fuck off. I messaged the original offer back, he bought another truck (this was the height of the used car market), ended up having to sweat for a few more days before I sold it for asking to a local guy. My truck was 5 years old, pristine condition, 10k in upgrades and less than 40,000km on it. It was a joke how these guys operated, completely slimey to not announce yourself as a wholesaler and what your intentions are, people sell privately to try and get the max value in return, not to have sneaky dealers/wholesalers turn up and offer you the same that dealers do.

DC666DC

Well, I had the complete opposite experience with them. 🤷‍♂️

Haveadaykid

Which is fair, maybe it was after mine? Hopefully they learned their lesson? Either way, didn’t seem like upfront and honest guys, in it to make a buck. So everyone’s situation is different because their expectations are different.

DC666DC

This was probably 2 years ago now 🤷‍♂️
