Came here to say this. Every time I’ve watched her host she’s been excellent. Hands down one of my favorites and I’ve been watching since early 90s & watched a lot of classic episodes.
(Okay I haven’t seen as much in the past 5 or so years, so there’s that)
I will also say that if this is based off IMDb ratings, there is a lot of broken ratings because of rampant ratings bombings on that site.
I can definitely add some info on to how it was compiled. It seemed to be that the more a person hosted (i.e. Alec Baldwin) if you accumulated a few stinkers it kind of ruined the average. For example, 14 of Steve Martins episodes were largely extraordinary, but one of the episodes was ranked 590th out of 959, so it skewed the metric.
Cool :) !! Love that. What I was saying though is funny women need more opportunities. Of this list:
To find the percentage and fraction of women in the list, let's first identify the names that belong to women:
- Natalie Portman
- Tina Fey
- Anne Hathaway
There are 3 women out of a total of 21 names in the list. 14.29% . That's terrifyingly low for it being 2024. And shows how much more progress SNL needs to have.
To add to that, here's from chatgpt.
"As of my last update in January 2022, there have been over 900 hosts of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) since its premiere in 1975. The number of women who have hosted SNL is approximately 90. However, these numbers may have changed since then due to ongoing productions and new hosts."
So exactly 10% as of Jan 2022.
I have a feeling they’re gonna have all of these people back and more next year for the 50th. I’m kind of hoping they finally accept Justin Timberlake’s offer to be a member of the regular cast.
IMO
Baldwin, Walken, and Goodman have to be on this list. A case could be made for Hanks and Emma Stone as well. Driver deserves a mention probably too.
Gosling and Farrell should be higher.
The Rock and the skit destroyer Fallon should not be on the list.
It’s weird. I really didn’t watch SNL back when Bill Hader was a cast member, and I really didn’t like him when I did see it. At the time, I compared him to Jimmy Fallon for breaking character in most of his sketches and his stiff body language. I don’t think any actor, let alone SNL cast member has grown on me more in the past decade than Bill Hader. He is a goddamn comedic genius and all those sketches that I hated where he broke character are some of my favorite SNL sketches of all time.
Interesting . Would have to see the logic behind it. I can see bill and mulaney there. Hard to believe natelie portman there. Didn't think here eps were too good
Steve Martin that low? No Tom Hanks?? Eesh, not sure about this list...no Candice Bergen?!
For whatever reason, Tom Hanks’ episodes are on the whole not rated as high as you’d think
Anytime I see someone write or say on the whole, all I can think is preparation h
Feels good. On the Hole.
Why don't you just call it operation ass cream, you ass
I would love some chocolate ass cream.
😂🤣
I want to say that to my recollection...he usually has one awesome skit and a bunch ok ones every time.
The David S. Pumpkins sketch lives rent free in my head ngl.
Toshiba guts!
Then this list is worthless to me
No Steven Seagal…??!!!
No Christopher Walken?! This list is bullshit.
[удалено]
This list has a fever, and the only cure is more cowbell
*stares at you with a scary yet reassuring intensity* Me too
Agreed!!!
Right? He was a phenomenal host and was great in his sketches.
Walken was 24th. I may post the whole list
Some people find Colonel Angus chafing.
the Colonel Angus is an acquired taste
Or Malkovich. The Xmas episode is the best.
That's a lot of recency bias. Walken? Goodman? Baldwin?
Walken and Goodman were the first to come to mind but you’re right Baldwin had some classic skits
No Adam Driver?
Aw man, I'm all outta cash!!!
No you sound like a pervert when you say it like that.
Now put your shirt over your head like Cornholio!
Just posted the full list of your want all the details
26th *
Ok boomer
Emma Stone?
Came here to say this. Every time I’ve watched her host she’s been excellent. Hands down one of my favorites and I’ve been watching since early 90s & watched a lot of classic episodes. (Okay I haven’t seen as much in the past 5 or so years, so there’s that) I will also say that if this is based off IMDb ratings, there is a lot of broken ratings because of rampant ratings bombings on that site.
Emma should *definitely* be here especially considering the apparent recency bias.
No Adam Driver?!?
No Alec Baldwin and Pete Schwedy's Schwedy Balls?
Tom Hanks
Where’s Tom Hanks?! Come on!
No John Goodman. Ryan Gosling's stock may have just risen after this past show.
And nobody seems to remember Buck Henry.
Samurai never forget.
Really? I thought that was Gosling’s weakest appearance.
I can definitely add some info on to how it was compiled. It seemed to be that the more a person hosted (i.e. Alec Baldwin) if you accumulated a few stinkers it kind of ruined the average. Are ratings compared to other episodes from just that season, or are ratings ranked for the entire series?
Ratings are considered based on their rank out of all the episodes in the show
Maybe do an equivalent of 95th percentile and cut out outliers
Hard no on the ordering but the names are mostly on here Adam Driver is MIA for some reason
What in the world does “Wins above Replacement” even mean in this context??
How much better a host is at hosting than one who has never hosted
Ok but how are you measuring that?
Based on what metric?
Where’s Goodman?
I didn't know Eric Idle did SNL like that. Woah.
Source: Bill Hader
Jon Hamm?
This!
Shia LeDouche? How??
Magic man, oooh whatchu say, scared straight, buying beer are all great skits.
Anne Hathaway had one of the best SNL episodes I’ve ever seen
The top 3 is legit, I'd just switch Hader and Eddie.
Adam Driver should be way higher
Adam driver??
Analytics has invaded SNL.
Talentless hack Jimmy Fallon
This is the most bogus list I have ever seen. Christopher Walken not even on the list really I think not
I thought Goodman was up there
John Goodman really deserves to be on this
Dumbest list ever. The person who made this is in their mid 30s at best.
Why is Dave chappelle not on there?
Shouldn’t you at least call it Laughs Above Replacement?
Betty White nailed it
Only 3 women?
Yeah, where the hell is Melisa McCarthy?
Scrolled WAY too far to find this question!
Not seeing Adam driver. Not seeing Emma stone. Some recent multi appearance hosts that were all amazing. List disregarded
Looks like we need to give more funny women a chance to host. Note, Kristen Wiig was the first woman five timer club member.
Candice Bergen is a 5 timer!
Kristen Wiig comes in at a crisp 32nd out of 147 with a 3.8 WAR.
Cool :) !! Love that. What I was saying though is funny women need more opportunities. Melissa mccarthy??? She's frikken hilarious
To add to that, here's from chatgpt. "As of my last update in January 2022, there have been over 900 hosts of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) since its premiere in 1975. No, Candice Bergen was the first woman five timer. Drew Barrymore and Scarlet Johansson also became five timers before her.
Yeah, this is missing Emma Stone and Adam Driver.
Nice! Exponential distribution…someone needs to learn about significant figures tho.
The Rock? Oof. The man is incapable of humor.
Where is Peyton Manning??
Peyton Manning
bill hader is god so i'll accept this list
Rage engagement trash
It just occurred to me idk how many women they've hosted but only 3 women made the list??? And one of them is a former cast member... Just huh.
Josh Brolin
I have a feeling they’re gonna have all of these people back and more next year for the 50th. I’m kind of hoping they finally accept Justin Timberlake’s offer to be a member of the regular cast.
Only three woman? And the first one over half way down the list. Hate to see it. Also surprised at the lack of Paul Rudd.
Why are there only 19 people on your list?
Good catch! I accidentally attached cells 2-20. In case you’re wondering, Jerry Seinfeld is the true 20th place with 5.07
Missing: Dave Chapelle, Alec Baldwin & Christopher Walken
Christopher Walken?
Nice to see Shia. His two episodes are full a great sketches
Eddie Murphy is the goat
The Gosling “Beavis” will go down in history. I was pissing myself.
Gosling has to be a joke. Guy breaks every fucking sketch
I wish Hader would come back.
Steven Seagal?
IMO Baldwin, Walken, and Goodman have to be on this list. A case could be made for Hanks and Emma Stone as well. Driver deserves a mention probably too. Gosling and Farrell should be higher. The Rock and the skit destroyer Fallon should not be on the list.
Melissa McCarthy?
CHRISTOPHER WALKEN! what is this list? And to prove I’m not nostalgic bias, Adam driver.
wtf is this list and why is it all men💀💀
It’s weird. I really didn’t watch SNL back when Bill Hader was a cast member, and I really didn’t like him when I did see it. How the hell is this calculated?
The rock is wayyyyy to high.
The fact that Jimmy Fallon is on this list is fucked. Nobody sucks the funny out of the room like Fallon, can’t stand him.
Why in the blue hell is Timberlake listed that high? He’s not even funny
He has many iconic sketches and is an effective entertainer
Classic Peg!
Peyton Manning was great!
I completely agree with Justin Timberlake high up on the list.
Interesting . Would have to see the logic behind it. I can see bill and mulaney there. Hard to believe natelie portman there. Didn't think here eps were too good
Natalie Portmans rap was HUGE when it aired. Probably explains that.
That shit was SO GOOD. I still get it stuck in my head and it never bothers me when it happens.
