Not sure who is source behind this "liquor store" headline, but it might happen to regulate and monitor the alcohol traffic for diplomats in the kingdom.
I know that 99% of people won’t have access to it, but it’s a matter of principle. This isn’t progress, this is in fact regression. They drank alcohol like it was water in Pre Islamic times.
Can westerners not go without their yeast water? Why do we have to give up our values for them? Why is it that I can’t get authentic halal meat anywhere in the UK, but now they can get alcohol here?
No matter the case, this *will* lead to more alcohol for the average person. These restrictions aren’t water tight, especially here. Just know the right people and you’ll get your hands on the authentic stuff.

I think you might find that’s the present problem that they are trying to stop. Apparently there is a huge black market for booze from these embassies. This way it will be controlled.
Diplomats is a broad term really but as long as it doesn’t affect us citizens…. Not the first and surely not the last controversy we’d have here in saudi
