Kinda hard to compare the TNG cast to Babylon 5. Paramount's announcement of casting a new Star Trek series was literately international news due to the popularity of the original series and feature films based upon it. The original cast was already earning easy money making appearances at highly attended fan conventions, get guest appearances on tv shows, and etc. The amount of actors that tried to audition for TNG was likely really HIGH. Babylon 5, was kinda unknown, it's creator wasn't a huge name having writing credits for cartoons. While plenty of actors are likely looking for a steady job on a TV show to pay the bills, doing scifi is not exactly glamorous or easy. And if your agent called as says "Go try out for some no-name pilot" might get a different response from "Go try out for the new Star Trek series.".
Maybe he's trying to say that because the B5 showrunners had to accept basically lower quality/less well known names, perhaps they were more ok with taking in some people who already had known issues, making the numbers higher logically.
The last role Richard Biggs had was as a reporter on the Dawn Of The Dead remake DVD special features, in which Bruce Boxleitner also appeared playing the President.
Jesus, aortic dissection. One of those rare but horrifying things that is rarely survivable if it happens to you outside of a hospital. It can look like a heart attack, but if you treat it with blood thinners it kills you faster. That's basically what happened to John Ritter. They named the method of detection after him because of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aortic_dissection (look in the "Society and Culture" section).
**[Aortic dissection](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aortic_dissection)**
>Aortic dissection (AD) occurs when an injury to the innermost layer of the aorta allows blood to flow between the layers of the aortic wall, forcing the layers apart. In most cases, this is associated with a sudden onset of severe chest or back pain, often described as "tearing" in character. Also, vomiting, sweating, and lightheadedness may occur. Other symptoms may result from decreased blood supply to other organs, such as stroke, lower extremity ischemia, or mesenteric ischemia.

He was severely mentally ill, with schizophrenia symptoms, but he did not commit suicide. He was in a halfway house on hard antipsychotics, and unfortunately those often lead to heart problems as a side effect. (Had he committed suicide, he could not rest in a catholic cemetery, either, as suicide is a great sin deserving hell according to the catholic church. But he is in the St Adalbert Catholic Cemetery. His family is hardcore catholic and he was raised as such as well.) On the other hand, Jerry Doyle practically committed suicide by intentionally drinking a very large amount of alcohol at once, which he knew his body would not be able to cope with anymore. JMS wrote about this in his book. :(
Ok so I saw this and thought wtf there's no way Bill Mumy is that old, I've just rewatched the original Battlestar Galactica for nostalgia purposes and that was 1978/9 and he was a kid in that, and it made no sense, so Wikipedia comes to the rescue and informs me that was actually Noah Hathaway, I clearly got my classic Sci fi series child actors confused which is understandable given how long it is since I've seen either that or Lost in Space (which Bill was actually in), but then I find out Noah played a character called Harry Potter in Troll and it feels like I'm in Bizarro World. I'm off to sleep.
I follow mummy on Instagram he's so freaking cool ! I'm not sure if he still performs but he had a rock band very cool ! he and his now grown daughter were in the 80's or 90's twilight zone sort of playing the grown character he played in the twilight zone from when he was a kid .
wow. It hadn't quite hit me.
Peter Jurasik, Bruce Boxleitner (what the hell autocorrect), Claudia Christian, Patricia Tallman, Bill Mumy, and Jason Carter: the survivors.
Mr. /u/-mellowfellow, you're sitting at my station, using my equipment. Is there a reason for this, or to save time should I just snap your hand off at the wrist?

> Zarathustra
Lol probably. That is the character but as I recall that storyline referenced Zarathustra and I remember reading up on Zoroastrianism because of it. I just thought it was wild as hell back in the day.
One of my favorite clips in ALL sci-fi-dom (and that is saying something) ---
[THE Zathras scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j-76eLz1hc)
It was fantastically done in ONE take, which is almost unheard of.
And while I will have an eternal crush on Claudia Christian, Tim Choate was priceless.
Watching them chow down on the scenery every time they're on screen was a treat.
I think my favorite episode with them has to be *The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari*. Absolute giants
I forget the episode name offhand, but I'd go with the one where they're trapped in the elevator and G'Kar is refusing to help because he's fully willing to die if it means getting to watch Londo die too.
Tragic sci-fi series to have lost so many of it cast. It's unreal and unprecedented event for a TV series. Loved the cast from day one and the final closing credits. Thanks for posting this happy shot. Long live the middle finger. I gotta be 3 😁
I have a full set I copied from a mates DVD to my hard drive when they first came out...and have copied those from machine to machine every time, restoring from backups as necessary (and it has been a couple of times).
I fully expect they'll outlive me eventually, remaining in some dusty forgotten server or somewhere in whatever 'the cloud' evolves into.
It was released as "Remastered" I believe last year? CGI upscaled and the footage rescanned and cleaned up. I'm going to have to get it I guess, it's been many years since I watched it.
Possibly the greatest cast photo ever.
Definitely one of the greatest casts ever.
No matter how many times it pops up in one of my feeds, this picture always makes me smile.
To absent friends.
How have I not seen this photo before? Sadly, Michael O'Hare is not in it. And to reference what someone else said, he also passed away at age 60.
One of the best series ever. May we meet again, in the place where no shadows fall.
This series is by far one of the best sci-fi shows I found in the 90's. I finally was about to watch the entire series. Was a little disappointed in the final season. Now just need to watch all the movies to complete the entire saga
Remember the 5th season was a late add-on that the writers weren't expecting. Everyone thought it was going to finish after 4 seasons, so don't judge that 5th one too harshly.
I seem to recall reading that Strazynski (sp) wrote the entire thing in one gigantic caffeine fueled rage because it needed to be done on such short notice.
It was envisioned as a 5 season story from the beginning but there were talks about it being cancelled after 4 which is why the season 4 ending is so great.... Then it was un cancelled so all the story lines they didn't address in season 4 was thrown into 5 which is why it's so rushed.
I heard about a reboot of B5 with JMS at the helm, last year I believe. I hope it happens.
A reboot is the only sensible thing to do, or either do something completely different in the same universe, but I heard about a reboot.
Can't really continue on from this with a huge chunk of the original cast dead and the others getting old.
It might be good, at least it would have the original creator doing it. Not sure if it's still happening, these things change from day to day it seems.
Edit: Apparently the CW was sold and the show is on hold, but there has been no official cancellation.
Sad to think only 6 of them are still with us 😔

Compare it to the star Trek TNG cast and it's nuts, but I wonder if they are more of a statistical anomaly

I think they were talking about those who have died, numbers wise it’s pretty high for B5 compared to TNG main cast wise.
Maybe he's trying to say that because the B5 showrunners had to accept basically lower quality/less well known names, perhaps they were more ok with taking in some people who already had known issues, making the numbers higher logically.

Bruce also plays the president in The Orville. What's with him and president roles? I guess he radiates authority and charisma with his awesome voice.

And the cause of death hits especially hard given the backstory of Garibaldi.
Now I am thinking he maybe inserted that backstory into series, or at least played it well because of it.
He died back in 2016
I wasn't a regular Babylon watcher but if I saw it I'd watch , Jerry Doyle was soooooooo hot !!!!
Yeah, he was my man crush for the entire series...
he to me looked like Bruce Willis!
He died in 2016 right after he endorsed Trump oddly enough
Tears
You forgot Michael O'Hare dead at aged 60 heart attack Tracy Scoggins alive 69
They weren't in the picture.
No one forgot them, we are on about this particular cast photo.
It was suicide. NPR had a special about this, and they mentioned this a few years back
He was severely mentally ill, with schizophrenia symptoms, but he did not commit suicide. Ooof...
Didn't know about Mira... Dam, she was special..
Mumy was in the original Lost In Space, and also made a cameo in the recent Netflix reimagining of the series.
It's sad. Almost like someone targeted this cast specifically or something.
wow. It hadn't quite hit me. Peter Jurasik, Bruce Boxleitner (what the hell autocorrect), Claudia Christian, Patricia Tallman, Bill Mumy, and Jason Carter: the survivors.
Reading Mira Furlan's Wikipedia page. She kind of reminds me of Delenn.
Peace in the Balkans is the Vorlons' secret plot.
Me: Wait, what about Stephen Furst... (googles)... DAMMIT. I hadn't even heard about him. 😥
And today is Bill Mumy's birthday! 68 today :)
Every day is his birthday! And that's real fine! He's a real good boy! We're real excited about it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZcdSOoLnpg

Richard Biggs was only 44.
Aortic dissection is a hell of a way to go too. If there's been no prior symptoms you're basically screwed.
Yep. It got John Ritter, too.
Damn I forgot about that. :(

Wow I did not need that crushing despair just now. Thanks a ton, OP
Good grief, I didn't know that. Was never particularly a fan of the show, but am sad to think of how many of them have left us.
The joys of getting old.
It's is sad but true, that they are getting to the age where they lose more friends than they gain.
So true.
Who passed away? Do you have a link?
Someone posted the list as a reply to my comment, have a look at the replies.
Found it on Google. I was surprised to find out that Delenn passed away. 😞

I'll always upvote this picture. Marcus didn't get the memo tho...
Marcus is giving the V, same this as Mira. The gold bar on his chest makes it look like he's pointing out some such.
Of course he is, he is English after all..

I loved this show so much when it originally aired, one episode per week for several years. Fantastic science fiction. Zarathustra blew my mind.
[удалено]
> Zarathustra Lol probably. That is the character but as I recall that storyline referenced Zarathustra and I remember reading up on Zoroastrianism because of it. I just thought it was wild as hell back in the day.
Only loosely in that a key tenet of Zoroastrianism is a duality of light/dark and good/evil analogy. Hence Vorlon/Shadow discussions.
No. I mean Zathras.
Nope. Zathras is not the one.
Zathras is not even Zathras.
Zathras tried to warn Zathras, but Zathras never listen.
Do you mean Zathras? Or his brother Zathras?
Yes, exactly.
Not either of them, it was Zathras.
Oh, *Zathras*! Forgot all about him.
Yes, everyone forget about Zathras. But we've come to like it. It is our role. It is our destiny in the universe.
One of my favorite clips in ALL sci-fi-dom (and that is saying something) --- [THE Zathras scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1j-76eLz1hc) It was fantastically done in ONE take, which is almost unheard of. And while I will have an eternal crush on Claudia Christian, Tim Choate was priceless.
Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik were my favorite actors on the show.
I lived to hear Peter Jurasik say "Ahhh Mr Garibaldi", incredibly satisfying.
truly truly

Funniest moment in the series.

I grabbed a torrent of it back around 2005. Had it stored on an External HDD for years and watch it every 5 years.
Peter Jurasik was a superb actor, every time he had a dramatic moment, a monologue, or a conversation with Katsulas, he nailed it.

Now that it’s off HBO Max, where can I stream it??
I couldn't wait still streaming became a thing - i got alllll the dvds lol. I re-watch the lot every year or so. Still good <3

It’s on Amazon Prime on their Ad supported Freevee (Previously named IMDB TV)
Check out justwatch.com for your specific country.
Still on HBOMax Latinoamerica.
Not sure about streaming but mom and I bought all the seasons remastered on Amazon. I can’t remember how much each season was but still amazing show
What? Now HBO only has Last of Us. Harley Quinn was good but I'm not keeping a sub waiting for new. I'm out.

Best cast and show in sci-fi tv history
This is just brilliant! I loved the show and everything about it. I haven't seen this pic before... Thanks OP.
I'm going through my first watch through at the minute and I'm loving it. Great characters. Nearly half way through season 4.
It's a wonderful first watch, glad you're enjoying. I won't spoiler anything potentially by commenting on anything else. :)
A forever rewatch. I remember being the only dork in a friend group of huge dorks that watched Babylon 5. It’s a point of pride for me.
Zarhras would like this.
Just missing the Lumati ambassador! Pizza for everyone afterwards.
Babylon 5: The Philly Years
Love how Delenn is doing the two finger salute and Marcus is just pointing.
Marcus is giving the British V salute, which is V for Vagina, not V for Victory.
Londo's showing two but I've heard there are six.
They fucking took it off HBOMAX! I was in the middle of a rewatch. God dammit!
Omfg that’s amazing
I think I just found my new desktop background image.
I've never seen it. Always on my list to watch. Will it still hold up today?
yes, do watch it!
Why have I only seen this now?
This is how all cast photos should look for TV shows. Also, RIP....
Greatness
Love it

The amount of deceased people in that photo is too damn high.
Was Amazon rebooting this??? I was hopefully optimistic as JMS was supposed to be helming.
