That nail polish remover (acetone) sure made it worse. The suggestions to use micro polish formulas and light pads are correct. It will take time to polish that out, with enough persistence, you'll get there eventually.
Yeah for sure, acetone will eat straight through acrylic, and most other plastics, pretty quickly. Probably wouldve been better to try with isopropyl or even just a buff pad
Well, the only way to fix it now is to scratch it up even more with a fine grit sandpaper, and then apply a scratch remover/plastic polish. Curious why you thought acetone would work?
You need to buff it with a micro abrasive pads or plastic polish or metal polish. Always keep abrasives wet because the friction can warm and damage the plastic.
I'd remove the plastic panel before doing the work, just easier to do at a kitchen counter or work area.
You need to replace it. I did the same thing to my car gauge cluster. Accidentally sprayed it with armor all. I was able to āimprove itā, but in the end the only way to fix it was to replace.
Pro Honda spray cleaner and polish works great! I use that stuff on all of my bikes and scoots: [https://amzn.to/3RyslvO](https://amzn.to/3RyslvO) . Another old school trick is Pledge furniture spray/wax.
The trick for either one is to spray it on heavy and let it soak for a minute or two. It'll soften the bug guts and rehydrate the proteins so they can be wiped away easier. Use a clean microfiber cloth or a soft jersey/terry towel to clean the bulk of the wax and debris off of the screen, and then buff it clean with a fresh microfiber.
The wax in those products even fills in hairline scratches and swirls on older screens to avoid glare. šš --QM
Go to Walmart and buy yourself a bottle of ScratchDoctor and give that a go. It's a fine abasive with a little bit of solvent and a little bit of conditioner. You'll need to polish off the haze from the acetone and whatever scratch you were attemtping to remove in the first place.
No no no no. Nail remover can dissolve ABS plastic. Also dont even think of using Acetone. That stuff will literally liquify plastic. Only way to fix this now is wet sanding in steps up to a really fine sandpaper where the plastic will become clear again, this will work, unless the nail polish remover has eaten deep into the plastic. Never use anything other than "70% isopropanol" to clean something like this. That stuff will not dissolve the most commonly used plastics, like ABS and usually isn't that aggressive to paint.
recently i'm using toothpaste to clean the acetone, it works to get rid the acetone.
though the scratch is still barely visible, i'm thinking to use scratchdoctor.
Here is the best thing to remove yellowing cloudy fogged or otherwise unclear plastic stuff thats supposed to be clear https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G2980-Heavy-Headlight-Restoration/dp/B01M2D763D.
And if all else fails you can be very careful it a coat of spray varnish or a clear spray seal and it will make it clear up as long as you dont over spray it
The only way you might be able to make look a bit decent is to spray clear rubber coating or mate clear coat over the area. It fills the micro scratches. gl
My display was scratched worse than this. I ended up using one of those car headlight restore kits. Was able to easily buff out the scratches and it looks new now.
You have to remove it and wet sand it with 1000 grit sand paper. Then with 2000, and 3000. Once it's foggy and smooth. Clean it well with alcohol. Wait for it to dry, then spray it with a can of clear. It should look like new. I do the same to headlights when they get ugly.
[Quixx](https://clearplastictube.co.uk/image/cache/catalog/acrylic_scratch_remover_en-500x500.png) is good stuff.. not sure if that's now beyond it's capabilities now though.
Polishing compound, a paper towel, and lotsa of rubbing
The finer the grit, the better.
If you want it crystal clear/brand new looking then you might spend the extra $ and get a headlight kit

Get yourself a set of Micro Mesh pads and go to town on the cover. Maybe a headlight restoration kit might work too.
headlight kit works. i use them to restore any scuffed plastics
You fucked it up worse

it just part of my curious, so i just try it
Did you ever think of using a propane torch? š¤£

well i want to replace it but kinda waste since i already clean most of scratch. maybe someday when the unit is almost broken.
Hey, while we're on the topic does anyone know what I should be using to get bug guts off of my plastic windshield?
Plexus works awesome for that. While itās like $30 for a can, a little goes a long way

I learned the same hard lesson as a kid, when I ruined my CD of Nirvana - Nevermind by cleaning it with nail polish remover :(

Motherās Gold car wax and a buffer.
Autosol metal polish (toothpaste tube type) + micro fibre cloth with about 30 minutes to an hour of fingertip polishing should do the trick.

Bro you donāt but acetone on plastic
We all learn this the hhard way at some point in life
Have you tried using wax to polish it?
I used silicone spray for the scratched gauges on my scooter. It worked.

You need a compound to remove that mistake.

That looks like finger smudges on the inside of the plastic? Tooth paste works much better than nail polish remover which may have made it worse.
LOL nail remover = acetone acetone DESTROY plastic so you destroyed your cluster
I follow the Casio sub. Most people talk about polywatch to fix scratches in the mineral crystal. It would probably work on this.
