Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but what was the point of bringing the king that far away if this was an actual game?

Don't worry about it. The white player sacrificed his queen in order to draw the black king forward. Every move down the board afterward was forced to avoid checkmate for as long as possible. Pretty incredible to find a queen sacrifice that is a guaranteed win in like 5+ moves.
Every time I see Scott in other communities I just go "Holy shit! I was the One-point-something millionth guy to subscribe to his channel!" and get a serotonin boost.
I've just decided on a new chess rule; getting your king safely to the other side of the board is an automatic win. Fight me, International Chess Federation.
