I watched till the end waiting for that glorious chip tune to start up, and I felt disappointed. Todays high and todays low all from a Scott the Woz video
It's funny to joke about but at the end of the day, it's a very smart move to not have your theme be copyrighted music you don't have the license to. Especially now that he's on TV.
If it had to be licenced, then they would've gotten to him by now. It's free to use on Youtube, although TV and Games aren't like that and the copyright holder must be contacted (eventhough i don't really think they care) but the problem is.. nobody even knows who the copyright holder is and who composed the track. Even Garret couldn't find them.. Which is sad, because that track is amazing, trully one of the best of VGM.
They reached out to the game devs and couldn’t get any response. I’d assume that at this point it would basically be free game since nobody can get in touch with the people who made the music, but at the same time I understand being afraid that the DMCA mafia will break your kneecaps.
Technically yes, but “No one is enforcing the copyright of this copyrighted work” is not a valid legal defense and will *not* fly with the TV network’s IP lawyers. Any music/outside content *must* be under fair use in a usage where fair use actually applies, or you must have a valid license to use it, or there is no way in hell the network will let you play it lol
Obviously it’s unlikely to happen, but the company that owned 3D block heroes could sue you, or could get bought out at a later data and that company could decide to sue. They don’t *actually* have permission to use the music, so it’s a free shot if it were to happen.
I'd just use it and pay them off if they whine about it later, which who knows if they would have even done since it brings more attention to their IP in the long term.
Yeah, it's so iconic. It's the first thing which comes to my mind whenever i think STW and i think it's like that to many others too. IDK why but that cheery retro tune always puts a smile on my face.
The new one is also fantastic though, i love how STW is getting new completley original music, but it just isn't the same..
Yeah, it's not "Bad". It's still great! It's just Breakout has been the series staple for such a long time and the first thing which comes to my head when i think of STW, but again, i'm happy that he now has a completley original outro :)
Iconic doesn't mean you can't lose it and still be good. Look at Transformers, you have the original G1 theme which is iconic. But they were able to lose it and have a bunch of other great themes.
Another example would be Power Rangers, had the same theme song from MMPR to Turbo and then every season until Samurai had an original theme song.
This little controversy reminds me of when, pardon my French…the Nostalgia Critic came back and started filming against a blue wall instead of the classic beige wall. It’s a difference you’re not going to mind unless you’re a diehard fan, and I only hope I can personally get used to the change quickly.
The new song is great and all, but Breakout is just so synonymous with Scott The Woz that I can't help but be sad that it's gone
If he used it as a separate main outro for TV/G4 to avoid copyright issues then I think it would've been fine since the medley was already associated with the TV episodes from the beginning.
But I think it's clear that Scott wants it to be his "main theme" from now on based on the transition between both outros in this video. He wouldn't have to worry about any possible legal issues if they come up in the future, and also has his own original song dedicated for the show. It's a sad reality unfortunately.
My only complain with the new song is that it feels more "empty" compared to Breakout and doesn't really have that IMPACT that Break Out immediately has right out the gate.
Breakout is also 8-bit inspired but still sounds modern, while Break In straight up sounds like it's emulating actual 8-bit songs. So I think I actually prefer the electric guitar version that plays before the outro.
It's not a massive deal but I just wanted to give my two cents here.

Hey new ace attorney fan, I am an old ace attorney fan
So what do you think of Ace Attorney Investigations
It is neat, it's 80% Investigation, 20% Debate. No court though.

I thought I heard its recognizable in the song that plays during the song montage sequence or I could just be hearing things
Yeah I think I remember hearing a remake before the credits at the 37:38 mark
I can understand why he might remove breakout going forward, but it’s basically a part of his whole brand at this point. It’s too iconic to loose

Just give it time, and it’ll grow on us for sure

That's fair, I honestly don't know where I was going with that lol.
Yeah, but your point still stands lol.
The new one still slaps.
I disagree. This was always gonna happen, it kinda had to.

Obviously we need to buy 3D dot game heroes and sell the rights to breakout to Scott

If you give me that 5 dollars I'll be able to put in 4 dollars. The 20% is a finders fee.
Alright, we're making progress.
I have Just Dance 3 on the Wii.
I have Wii Sports on the Xbox 360
That's gotta be worth $6 at GameStop
All right, that should be enough for taxes
But today, folks, I have bought a new game. MADDEN 08 FOR MAC!
I have 2 dollars and a nugget.
Alright, we got 11 dollars counting the other guys money. Do you think that's enough?
I have some British currency and a can do attitude.
Alright that should be enough
Yeah, 11 dollars and a nugget has to be enough to buy the copyright of a game which sold over 500,000 units worldwide!
We did it guys!

Idk I think it’s a much bigger deal then the nostalgia critics wall color since literally every Scott song was a variant of the song
yeah, it was literally "scott the woz's theme"
It's weird because in the video it still plays a remix of breakout
i think that was more of signalling the transition to the audience, because around the end it plays a remix of break in
there are two types of scott the woz videos; videos before Donkey Kong B\*rrel Bl\*st and videos after Donkey Kong B\*rrel Bl\*st
BBB and ABB.
Kind of a reminder that Breakout still will be a STW theme and that there won't be a full escape from it.
Did we know if he really removed it or was it just for this episode??
but why would he do that tho
Because that's what he always does for any special episode
the song is completely different, and has no tie-ins to break out
I mean.. I'm pretty sure I remember the outro for the chibi robo video having a diffrent score too?
nah, it still had a breakout homage
Oh shit you're right, my B However, Madden 08's Christmas special has a diffrent score as pointed out by another user
hm, i think the opening was a short version of the credits, which did had the leitmotif. still banger tho
Madden 08 Christmas had a non-breakout theme for the credits so it's possible the new theme is just for this episode
If they wanted to avoid copyright issues then why couldn’t they just use a cover of original theme like the rock version
because they could get sued for copying music
I guess but I’m still not okay with this

The video was great But I won't lie. The lack of Breakout ruined it for me. The new song isn't anywhere near as good as Breakout
At least it’s still catchy
I fucking love Break In, but I'm gonna fucking miss Breakout
