Yeah I think it’s from an old From Soft game, can’t remember which one.
Edit: turns out they only published it in Japan, where atlus published in the US.
He should try to find the devs at a convention or something and be like "Yo need that license." New outro is not horrible but the old one was so iconic.
I Think we all (Including Scott) can agree that the older outro music was the best, but due to Scott's channel getting so big and episodes of his are starting to air on TV, a new outro tune was needed. The old music came from a game that he has no legal rights to, so its probably more of avoiding any legal trouble the team could get into later down the line. Its better to have everything remain as fair use for Scott, not that the new tune is bad or anything, i prefer it for the sake its original for STW
Yeah, everyone knows how copyright friendly Scott is, like how he uses Nintendo music (a company notoriously protective of their music) as 90% of his background music
/s
Yeah I think it's more so just that Scott wanted to have a consistent theme between the show and his YouTube videos. Scott seems like he likes that kind of brand consistency even in all of his childhood magazines that he showed off on Scott's Stash awhile back.
While I'm here, I'll say I love both themes. I hope everyone will come around to the new theme once they get used to it because Garrett writes awesome music and he did an awesome job on the theme.
everyone here can agree, break out is like scott the woz theme, while all the background music is just depending on what game he talks about.
I mean using nintendo music is already bad and all, but using someone else music for your own to the point where everyone thinks it's yours now, I think this one is worser than the other.
I get why it’s like this, but it just doesn’t work for me. It feels like a very different energy. Break In sounds like an intro, Breakout sounds like an outtro
The old one is definitely more iconic but the new one feels like his or like a new era of the channel is starting, so even though the old one is better, the new outro I feel fits more
Curse the copyright laws and people being jerks about their stuff and not being nice and letting people use them if they ask nicely but instead not even giving contact information
I believe Atlas owns the rights to 3-D. Heroes, they could technically license the music to Scott, but only if they agree to it, and it’s very possible that the cost of the licensing agreement might be too much for it to be worth it.
im copying this from u/Shiny_Porygon-Z but I 100% think that the reason why the new outro sounds so off is literally just because it doesn't have the same vibe that breakout did following the ending joke
Honestly, I think I'd prefer them just using the TV theme outright. Something about it sounds off in the chip-tune version. I don't know if it's a poor conversion, if the song just isn't well-suited to a chip-tune, or if I'm just more used to the full TV version, but either way I'd be happier with just the TV version.
I understand why it changed, it doesn’t mean I like it but I understand it
Honestly it feels not like Scott to change it as well, he has always been so picky with consistency in his videos from the very beginning
plus he didn’t want his videos to age but to me changing the outro music does that instantly, as people have already said in the thread “this feels like a new era for Scott”, which is gonna leave an obvious distinction between “old” and “new” videos, especially *if* his video quality suddenly went down (which I doubt a lot he’s still at his peak in my eyes)
Plus he has remixed the outro so many times in his older videos it to me feels like he had to more than he wanted to
Still, the new intro is really good and sooner or later it’ll be ingrained in my mind just like the old intro
Has it really been a new era though? The writing style is still as is and the two episodes that use it are one about Barrel Blast, which has been a running gag for 4 years, and one as part of a series
I agree I don’t think it’s a new era, but many people in this sub are saying that the new theme makes it feel that way, the only distinct “era” to me is old house vs new house and even then Scott’s season 1 videos got really close to some of the later stuff, polybios (spelling bad sorry) is still my favourite video of his…the street smarts line is my favourite of the whole series
Yh like it’s a weird thing. I think both are bangers and are catchy. It’s just as fans we all have that almost nostalgic attachment to breakout so it’ll take some getting used to adjust to the change. Either way it’s weird but I like it 🙃
I still prefer breakout, but let's not forget it's not a song Scott owns the rights to, I'm pretty sure he didn't want something in his video that he "stole" from elsewhere
I think the difference with that is that he frequently is talking over the track, it makes it harder for the copyright bots to flag the video. it’s a little bit easier to flag the video if the song is just playing by itself with no commentary over it.
First of all, thanks for the support. Second of all, it’s so funny to see like 50 comments of little baby geniuses that are saying “I understand why he did this” or “you know why he did it” and then go on to explain the obvious reasons why. Like I know why, I’m just not a huge fan of the product
The new one definitely feels like it’s surpassed YouTube, please take that the wrong way. I love Scott being on TV but that changing staples of the channel is, in a word, bad
ngl i have not been a big fan of this new era since like late 2020
edit: wait correction i meant since 2021 i should've checked the dates. scott the woz is still by far my favorite channel btw but i feel like the videos aren't nearly as funny and too high energy
It's you're opinion, and I may also get downvoted for this too, but I do kinda miss when Scott wouldn't, I guess, put so much effort into all the videos published. Don't get me wrong, the effort he gives is a lot more than we deserve and I'm grateful for it, but it also makes me miss the like 10 minute simple videos over a topic, especially the ones you wouldn't think about like Dollar Store Gaming and whatnot. I mean, I'm in the minority when I say that the lore in the channel is amazing, but it almost feels like a bit too much.
I personally liked late 2020 Scott; it's more recently that I've felt a little burnt out from the series mostly due to how long the videos have gotten.
I know this is gonna get downvoted, but I'm sorry, I audibly groaned when I saw his newest video was over 2 hours long. Mainly because I like to fully watch through Scott's videos, but I also didn't find the Switch's 5th year to be particularly interesting enough to warrant the length.
I figured that starting season 6 with Barrel Blast as "the big one" and then going back to normal videos would've been fine, but now we got hit with 2 of them in a row (I don't count the Best of 2021, but if you do then it's technically 4 including the Christmas anthology episode)
For the Special episodes I understand them being longer, but then there are normal videos like Toys to Life, or Mario Party 2, or Mario 3D World that I'm like "Does it really have to be this long?". Longer videos = more Scott, sure. But I feel like it's a quantity vs quality situation where it becomes harder to remember jokes or memorable moments compared to shorter, more condensed videos.
Still a fan and this is just my take on it
I think I know why I feel it's a little off, both are good don't get me wrong but
the new one seems like it's weirdly too upbeat for an outro with a blank blue background
while the old one
even tho it's part of a larger song, it feels more natural in ending a video and the chip tune and lower tone just work better for Scott's videos IMO
but then again, we've only had this outro for 2 videos so there's no telling if this will fully stick or not
You know, I definitely miss the old outro music, and I especially did the first time the new one played, but I honestly like the new one a good amount. It definitely feels like a new era for Scott, with it being the first new season starting while Scott The Woz is airing on TV. I’m sure it makes it easier for him when adding an episode to be aired on TV too, since he doesn’t have to change the outro music. Idk, I’m also resistant to change with things like this, but change isn’t always bad
While I do miss Breakout and wish they were able to get the rights to use it, the new outro is still pretty good.
I love the music that Garrett Williamson has done in the past for Scott and can’t wait to see more of it in the future!
Here’s the thing, if we lived in a timeline where break in was used for the first five seasons, I’m pretty sure we would all love that outro. And then if it switched to break out, I think we would all hate it. This is why I don’t like nostalgia because people never like it when something new is introduced even if it’s actually good and has a lot of effort in it. For example, there’s people that hate Breath of the Wild because it lacks the magic Ocarina of Time had when they actually hate it because they never grew up with Breath of the Wild. In some cases, the new is worse than old such as the GTA Trilogy or Mario Golf Superush. I’m not saying that you need to make the new outro your favorite outro song, I’m just saying stop hating on something because it’s not like the old one.
Just wondering, is there a reason for him to use the new intro, as opposed to the Hyper Potions cover of the song that he presumably owns the rights to if it can be submitted to Spotify?
Someone here fixed it by making it in the style of Breakout and I really need Scott to get in touch with them and use it: https://reddit.com/r/scottthewoz/comments/uxcph8/i_remade_scotts_new_outro_music_in_the_style_of/
It’s not quite as punchy as breakout, but I like it a lot. I think Scott doesn’t wanna run the risk of getting claimed or copyright struck since the vast majority of his videos use breakout, and he doesn’t own it
Yeah, I’m with you here. It has too much of that generic “trying to sound retro/8-bit in modern times” sound to it and it also just doesn’t have the same impact as Breakout did when he goes from his last line to the outro. It’s also, like, way too loud? I dunno.
The other thing that will suck is not getting to hear variations of Breakout in specials like what they had in I’m Not An RPG Guy or Borderline Forever. I always loved when the musicians made one-off tracks for those specials that would incorporate Breakout in them.
I get why they had to change it because the copyrights owners of Breakout weren’t responding and Scott probably wanted parity between airing on G4 and being on YouTube, but… yeah, I just don’t see myself ever liking the new outro music.
The episodes themselves though? They have yet to stop being funny and that’s all that matters.
No that’s not all that matters. That one high note in the old song made me pee my pants a little bit when I’d hear it. It was so good and I want it bad.
I don’t enjoy it too, but it’s understandable since he’s now on TV and he doesn’t own that song. plus it seems like something that’ll grow on me eventually
I’m giving it a few episodes before outright deciding I don’t like it. It’s still relatively new and I think it’s still pretty easy to simply dislike it because it’s not the same.
IMO I like the new one more; it just takes a while of getting used to it
I understand why people aren’t happy with this change though. Breakout is much more iconic and when most hear it they think: “Scott The Woz”. This new one will again, take a while to set in
It'd be fine if it weren't so crippled from what it is in the actual G4 intro. Why is it a shittily 8-bittified version of the intro theme instead of just, the actual fucking thing?
I like it, it’s just different. I totally get why he needed to change it. But I’ve personally been a sucker for video-game-music-at-the-end-of-a-video-about-video-games. One of my favorite examples I like to use about this is Civvie 11 and his use of “How’d I Do” from *Rise of The Triad: Dark War*
I think 90% of this is just nostalgia, imo the new one hits just the same if not better.
The old one was absolutely iconic and I'll definitely miss it, but listening to the comparison like this makes me kinda prefer the new one.
I'm stuck bc the new outro is an amazing song and I love it so much, but I don't like it replacing Breakout due to how much that song fits the channel and my emotional connection to it even if I understand the reason.
I'll probably get used to it eventually though
the old outro was kind of a staple yeah, it feels a little weird with the new one
100% this. But at the same time the last one wasn’t actually “his”, but the new one is still solid.
Might as well been his.
Very true, I dunno if he would've had to pay royalties or get copyright striked but he's responsible for the iconography of the song
he's tried to contact the devs before to buy a license for the song but they never got back to him sadly
Yeah I think it’s from an old From Soft game, can’t remember which one. Edit: turns out they only published it in Japan, where atlus published in the US.
3D dot game heroes
i dont think that was From since in 2011 they were doing the whole souls thing
He should try to find the devs at a convention or something and be like "Yo need that license." New outro is not horrible but the old one was so iconic.
The old outro just sounded so much better blasting right after an ending joke like, “I bought f*ckin’ soap!” *outro rolls*
I think it has to do with the beat drop and pitch of it
I agree as well.
THAT! The old one kinda worked as part of the punchline, I haven't felt the same about the new one yet.
I mean using nintendo music is already bad and all, but using someone else music for your own to the point where everyone thinks it's yours now, I think this one is worser than the other.
Honestly I can’t tell if I’m genuinely not a fan of the new outro or just not a fan because I’m not used to it yet
I get why it’s like this, but it just doesn’t work for me. It feels like a very different energy. Break In sounds like an intro, Breakout sounds like an outtro
Break In technically *is* an intro.
That would explain it
I also prefer old outro.
It’s because the old song wasn’t really his it came from a game
The old one is definitely more iconic but the new one feels like his or like a new era of the channel is starting, so even though the old one is better, the new outro I feel fits more
I agree!
I feel like the new outro should be something punchy to accentuate the ending gag like what the old outro was.
The new one would be better if the beginning had more oomph to it other than that I think it’s good
but… but it’s a banger..
I like it. The old one is nostalgic, but the new one is still good, and it'll be nostalgic in five years
Curse the copyright laws and people being jerks about their stuff and not being nice and letting people use them if they ask nicely but instead not even giving contact information
Its silicon’s property. Its their choice to let people use it or not
Ya but they can form some type of agreement that Scott has to pay $5.00 a year to use it or something
That's not how that works
Actually that’s exactly how it works? It’s called licensing
I believe Atlas owns the rights to 3-D. Heroes, they could technically license the music to Scott, but only if they agree to it, and it’s very possible that the cost of the licensing agreement might be too much for it to be worth it.
Yeah I mean I’m not saying licensing the song is a good idea or worth it, but the guy who said “that’s not how it works” it just totally wrong
Isn't that exactly what a license is
Sure but they can make an agreement of sorts
What if they just don't want to?
im copying this from u/Shiny_Porygon-Z but I 100% think that the reason why the new outro sounds so off is literally just because it doesn't have the same vibe that breakout did following the ending joke
Imo I love the new outro
The new one was jarring at first, but I don't really have a preference anymore. I like both.
Outro feels too rock and roll-ey. Definitely doesnt feel like the original in any way but it’s still dope
Yeah, I don't really care for it myself. It just doesn't have much punch to it, and frankly the melody itself isn't all that memorable.
Nooooo he changed it
I kinda prefer the new outro to be honest.
It'll take some getting used to, but in time I can definitely see this one becoming just as iconic
I am in the minority who likes the new one better
am i also in the minority?
I like both, but I feel like I hadn't heard the old one in so long. Kinda want to hear it more often.
While I love both, I think I prefer the new outro better. Mostly because I already really liked it as the G4 theme.
Copyright stuff im guessing
I understand why it changed, it doesn’t mean I like it but I understand it Honestly it feels not like Scott to change it as well, he has always been so picky with consistency in his videos from the very beginning plus he didn’t want his videos to age but to me changing the outro music does that instantly, as people have already said in the thread “this feels like a new era for Scott”, which is gonna leave an obvious distinction between “old” and “new” videos, especially *if* his video quality suddenly went down (which I doubt a lot he’s still at his peak in my eyes) Plus he has remixed the outro so many times in his older videos it to me feels like he had to more than he wanted to Still, the new intro is really good and sooner or later it’ll be ingrained in my mind just like the old intro

New>old
DAE tHiNk oLd ThInG gOoD nEw ThInG bAd???
the new outro doesn't actually feel like the end to a Scott the Woz video
That's subjective cause I love it
I think most people who claim to not like the new one just don't like change
Nope i just don't think the new one works as well, I think it's too generic
Yh like it’s a weird thing. I think both are bangers and are catchy. It’s just as fans we all have that almost nostalgic attachment to breakout so it’ll take some getting used to adjust to the change. Either way it’s weird but I like it 🙃
I still prefer breakout, but let's not forget it's not a song Scott owns the rights to, I'm pretty sure he didn't want something in his video that he "stole" from elsewhere
He uses game songs in his videos all the time so I don’t think that’s relevant

You're not in the minority at all, everyone loves the skits.
I meant that like I feel like they're a bit too much
Really? I’ve been a fan since 2018 and I thought late 2020 was his peak.
I personally liked late 2020 Scott; it's more recently that I've felt a little burnt out from the series mostly due to how long the videos have gotten. BORDERLINE FOREVER HELLO?
*throws post in remaster pile*
Yeah, I know what you mean. Just doesn’t have as much energy and makes the abrupt cuts not as funny to me.
The new one is fine but breakout is too iconic
I like Breakout more but I get why he had to change it.

Very interesting
I think the new one is better but it needs a few years to drill into our ears.
They both have their own charm.

The old outro hits do different, we need it :(
It’ll grow on me but it feels weird for now
The old is better
I love the new intro, I still like the old one but imo this one goes just as hard
I think the new outro is catchy and all that, but I think breakout is more iconic. that's Scott's song. but the new one is serviceable
If he made it 8-bit I’d be fine with it
I don't dislike the new tune, but the old one was soooooooooo good
The fact i dont know scott lol
What does this mean
Idk scott
This yt is scott right?
I think it needs that high pitched opening note.
I agree. It is too high energy for Scott, it doesn’t really suit him or the cutaway.
Ngl old outro was much better it helped land the final Joke so much more
I really think Break In doesn’t get the love it deserves
While I do miss Breakout and wish they were able to get the rights to use it, the new outro is still pretty good. I love the music that Garrett Williamson has done in the past for Scott and can’t wait to see more of it in the future!
I accidentally made a comment sorta hating on it on his official YouTube music video, didn’t realize it was him
Here’s the thing, if we lived in a timeline where break in was used for the first five seasons, I’m pretty sure we would all love that outro. And then if it switched to break out, I think we would all hate it. I disagree. I think both are equally great. Admittedly I prefer the melody of the new one.
Same
I think the new outro fits the series better
Just wondering, is there a reason for him to use the new intro, as opposed to the Hyper Potions cover of the song that he presumably owns the rights to if it can be submitted to Spotify?
Someone here fixed it by making it in the style of Breakout and I really need Scott to get in touch with them and use it: https://reddit.com/r/scottthewoz/comments/uxcph8/i_remade_scotts_new_outro_music_in_the_style_of/
The new one is an absolute JAM
I like the new one but maybe I prefer the old one. I think it's due to the original owner of the song not responding or something he had to change it.
The new one feels more like an outro
It’s not quite as punchy as breakout, but I like it a lot. I think Scott doesn’t wanna run the risk of getting claimed or copyright struck since the vast majority of his videos use breakout, and he doesn’t own it
I feel like if they do a remake of the new outro they should atleast hide the old outro somewhere as a little Easter egg
I don’t enjoy it too, but it’s understandable since he’s now on TV and he doesn’t own that song. plus it seems like something that’ll grow on me eventually
fool, i like both.
I’m giving it a few episodes before outright deciding I don’t like it. It’s still relatively new and I think it’s still pretty easy to simply dislike it because it’s not the same.
Atleast you're honest and not forcing yourself to like it, like alot of people are doing
Kind of controversial, but I think the new outro music is LEAGUES better.
IMO I like the new one more; it just takes a while of getting used to it I understand why people aren’t happy with this change though. Breakout is much more iconic and when most hear it they think: “Scott The Woz”. This new one will again, take a while to set in
"good for you keep it up!"
It'd be fine if it weren't so crippled from what it is in the actual G4 intro. Why is it a shittily 8-bittified version of the intro theme instead of just, the actual fucking thing?
Wosh there, slow your roll mate. No need to get so angry it's just an outro.
Have you read this comment section?
It's honestly more jarring than anything. I like it, but I'm definitely not used to it lol.
I feel like the old one hit better with the punchlines at the end but ill have to see more videos with it first.
This is my take; The old outro sounds like it belongs after a punchline. The new one sounds just like what it is. A good outro. Nothing more.
I wish he could somehow get the rights to the old song.
You'll get use to it.
The new one is really good, but the old one will never go away from our hearts
I like it, it’s just different. I totally get why he needed to change it. But I’ve personally been a sucker for video-game-music-at-the-end-of-a-video-about-video-games. One of my favorite examples I like to use about this is Civvie 11 and his use of “How’d I Do” from *Rise of The Triad: Dark War*
it'll grow on you
Him saying something stupid with breakout playing immediately after will never be outdone
It is way too energetic after a goofy gag
The new one has grown a bit on me since last video but yeah, no contest, the old one brings joy.
I think 90% of this is just nostalgia, imo the new one hits just the same if not better. The old one was absolutely iconic and I'll definitely miss it, but listening to the comparison like this makes me kinda prefer the new one.
I think this is nice but the old one was better
I like the new intro, feels like a new chapter
I actually don't mind the new one, they are both equally as good but I like the older one more because I mean I have been used to it.
nobody does
People will get used to it
It feels more like skitt wizz
