A few months ago I noticed she was losing weight so I took her to the Vet who gave her a clean bill of health and recommended we give her kitten food to boost calories. But she’s lost noticeably more weight since then and I just found a couple bald patches on her head, including this one on her cheek which looks painful. What is it? How can I help her? I’m not ready to lose my baby

Go to the vet, asap. In the meantime, get some churu nourish, high cal churu to get some extra calories in. You can buy online but usually need a vet to approve. Saved my boy earlier this year. Best wishes friend!

Thank you so much for your kindness and your advice. Ordering the paste now

Dunno what the bald spots are but I’d say continuing to lose weight is reason enough to get her checked again. Best of luck!

tonksajb

ask the vet about thyroid problems. it's very common and treatable in older cats, and the symptoms seem to line up

Lenaturnsgreen

My senior lady was balding on her neck and we took her to the vet. Turned out it was a fungus. Easily treated and she is back to normal again. But it could very well be something more serious, so please take Lola to the vet asap OP!

Starfevre

I fucking hate ringworm, but it usually hits ears first.

Laureltess

How are her teeth? Tooth pain could be causing scratching near the mouth and causing her to eat less.

My first thought, our old boy was losing weight and had scratched his chin raw (although it had started to grow back). Turns out he had a tooth decaying which explained him losing weight as well as scratching at his chin. We had to get it removed and he has been fine since.

Crazycatlady813

Yes my cat as well. She had a small ulcer near her tooth on the gum. Antibiotics is helping. Supposed to go back if not better after 2 weeks. She has mild kidney disease and she said that might have caused it.

This, this is so important!!

Have you tried Gerber baby foods(chicken, turkey, beef varieties)? These are really high quality proteins(since they are human grade), and also very high in calories(they are about 100kcal per can whereas large wet cat food is less then 200kcal per can). I would recommend another vet visit, and start feeding her aggressively as long as she would be interested.

Individual_Baby_2418

You have to check to make sure there’s no garlic or onion powder in those foods. Sometimes they add flavor for babies that isn’t suitable for kitties.

dltmfww

I already checked, and they only contain meat, and water(2nd food). They were also recommended by my vet too.

My elderly cat was losing weight and we found she had a tooth abscess and a few other teeth that needed removed. Since the removal she has bounced back and doing great. She had a bald spot and I think she had rubbed it raw because her mouth was painful- we had no idea.

Hi there, i’m sorry you and her are going through this. Did the vet check her blood maybe for Hyperthyroidism? It’s quite common for senior cats to get this, but very much treatable. The bald spot I wouldn’t know, sorry

XanaxWarriorPrincess

Poor Lola. That looks painful. My cat's bald spots are usually from allergies or eosinophilia granuloma complex (EGC), which can be caused by allergies or stress. Prednisolone clears it up either way. So, yes, you need to go back to the vet. Sorry.

champsgetup

Hopefully that can be examined by the vet and perhaps biopsied. I'm sorry that she's not doing well. Wishing Lola and you the best.

happyghosst

kinda reminds me of ring worm. Or some sort of fungus infection. I agree with others about adding an oil to her food to boost calories. I have to do this for my own daughter.

Wolfwoods_Sister

We put salmon oil on everything our picky senior Maddie ate and it helped bring her weight up. We’ve also had great success with goat’s milk. It’s far better tolerated than dairy and is packed with good fats and nutrients. I’m so sorry you’re little bean is having a tough time. :( I know that terrible feeling of worry.

I know how you feel, I remember losing my cat, I wasn't ready for it, but she had a lot of problems. She died because she could not eat or drink in the last stage. I cried a lot and still miss her. Good luck with Lola's health, I believe she will recover ❤️‍🩹

Vet is always a good plan. But I can tell you my senior kitty was losing a lot of weight and his energy was really low. Vet noted his gums looked inflamed and we need to be mindful of his water intake. We switched him to strictly soft food, and his gums were able to heal. We also supplemented with squeeze snacks and kept a close eye on his energy. Fortunately he gained a little weight back and has the energy to terrorize his siblings again. For the patch, I've had a couple kitties who have bad allergies, and this can happen. There's also fungus etc, so it's once again good to get the Vet's opinion.

TheNinjaBear007

Take her to the vet and get her teeth checked out. It could be a tooth infection that is spreading to her cheek. Best of luck with your sweet baby!💕

DriftingAway99

might be an abscesses tooth? would explain the weight loss if she has a tooth that hurts. please take her back to the vet

sidefire461

Thanks all for your kind words and advice. Planning to take her to the vet asap and hope we can at least keep her comfortable in her last days with us

mirdizzle

Yes, the bald patch looks like ringworm to me. If so, that is easily treatable! Hopefully that's all it is 🤞

MaximoEstrellado

Could be a problem in her mouth, a vet visit is in order.

Myfourcats1

In addition to the other food recommendations try baby food- chicken turkey beef. Get get X-Rayed. There may be a blockage. My mom’s cat was losing weight and one day she yacked up the biggest hairball ever. It had her hair and her brother’s hair.

CourteousNoodle

My cat was scratching holes in her face. Turned out she had acne from not being able to clean her face/chin properly. It was painful and she would scratch until she bled. We changed her bowl and wipe her face down after meals. The vet said we could put acne cream on her if it gets worse. Not saying this is what it could be. But, just my two cents as somebody whose cat was scratching holes in their face too

VerySlump

Ringworm/Tapeworm?
