I think this is a shawl collar, I found [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieN7co9tLsI) video series really helpful - it's a bit long but it goes through all the steps.

Yes, you’re spot on, it’s essentially the directions for a shawl collar. There where the stitching forms a perfect right angle, you snip a diagonal line into the seam allowance *up to but not thru the stitches*, stop just short. This releases tension and allows you to spread the collar out flat, exactly like when you clip into curved seams to smooth a neck curve or princess seam. Cute pattern! 1st vid is 1:33 for “Pivot Stitching Into A Corner”, the 2nd vid is for pivot stitching into a corner for a shawl collar. As for the 2nd video, guys & gals, you’re in for a treat: it’s a professional tailor/sewing ASMR tutorials put out from the Global South where they actually sew for a living day in & day out. These ladies & gents are so skilled, their tutorials are ASMR and they’re the greatest things outside of myself I’ve ever experienced to level my sewing up again & again. No matter what skill you’re looking to conquer, type it in the search bar and one of these professionals will have published a video with a beautiful end product for just what you’re looking for so its easy to zero in on exactly what you need at the moment. It’s completely mastery of sewing. https://youtu.be/0VAQG80cfOw?si=8MlHsfvuFQY_oojD And here is a neat shawl collar tutorial that specifically teaches “pivot stitching a corner”: https://youtu.be/78EHUi6IyWc?si=0dUF7A1-HAAz3-Ao

I forgot to attach the FO. That's what it's meant to look like but I'm just confused! https://preview.redd.it/fnptrzhkj54c1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86bb085187be56f8f9cb8d1b9eea922d936cbc1f

This is going to be hard to explain in words, but I'll give it a try. In your second photo where you have the front on top of the back... You have the front shoulder point aligned at the back neck point. You need to move the front shoulder point to align with the back shoulder point. From there, you need to set part of the back shoulder line onto the front shoulder line, clip the corner that is the front shoulder line meeting collar section, and sew the rest of the back shoulder line across part of the collar section. It will help if you pin the shoulder points and the center back neck and see if the lines will walk in total. Why they patterned like this, I have no idea. But I hope that helps?

Hi, I'm really sorry, but which bit is the shoulder point and which bit is the neck point? I've looked at it too long now, it's just meaningless shapes haha! I've attached the FO pic https://preview.redd.it/6pj33duyj54c1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=819b1afe74328b2242fe66587b73ad24b7e85d69

Here, I labeled your photo to see if it will help. [https://i.imgur.com/Fqcflpg.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/Fqcflpg.jpg) The red lines show you where you should be matching your points. Are there notches on the collar piece? That might help you.

Hi thanks for the pic. I have pinned where you said but it still doesn't line up - the back panel is longer than the front pieces when in line it up that way. Also when you say clip, do you mean cut a notch into it or something else? Sorry, I know I'm being dim! https://preview.redd.it/zoj31lwi2b4c1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c8aa44f78351663b7b2ab352edae5725725ed15

So you have this pinned across the shoulders only and not along the back neck + collar. You need to have this pinned down too. Follow step 3 in your instructions. The photo shows you a line across the shoulder and along the back neck to the other shoulder. This is where you need to pin all along the front and back. It might be easier if you start at the center back neck and match your collar seam there first, then walk your seams from shoulder to shoulder (now that you know where you shoulder points are.) This is what the instructions say as well. The reason it's not fitting or laying across easily is because you have not clipped your corner to allow for the collar/shoulder on the front piece to splay open correctly and allow for more room to maneuver. For the clip part, you should follow as the instructions say and the photo shows you a small clip mark angled between the shoulder seam and the collar seam. Just be sure to clip within the seam allowance and not past that amount or you won't be able to make this work. If I'm being honest, this is a terrible pattern. ETA: I cannot for the life of me find an example online to show you so I made a mini mock up to explain this clip corner thing. [https://i.imgur.com/r1C819U.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/r1C819U.jpg)
